“Contado” Aglianico Riserva Molise DOC 2019
Concentrated ruby red with garnet-coloured reflections. The wood contributes very slight hints of roasted coffee to the predominantly black cherry and berry aroma. Full and very intense flavour of dark berries, very slight hints of violets and plums, the compact tannins are supported by balsamic notes, with fine liquorice tones in the finish. “Askos” Susumaniello Salento IGT 2022
Under the name Askos, Li Veli summarises a project in which long-forgotten, indigenous grape varieties are rediscovered and cultivated on the ideal terroir selected for them. The red Susumaniello grape is said to originate from the nearby Dalmatian coast and is one of the most exciting grape varieties in Puglia today, even though it is rarely vinified as a single variety.
The Susumaniello Askos is a solid red wine with a rich bouquet of red cherries, plums, dark spices and red earth. These warm flavours combine with a medium intensity and full, round fruit to create an extroverted style that is both soft and pleasantly fruity. Tradition meets modernity - very successful! The name Mare Antico (ancient sea) is a tribute to the marine fossils and shells found in the soils of Orvieto. It is a beautiful blend of 55% Grechetto, 20% Vermentino, 20% Chardonnay and 5% Procanico and is the house's flagship wine every year.
Mare Antico blows like a cool breeze from a mountain top, mixing crushed rock with raw almonds, a hint of sage, ginger and flint in its interesting bouquet. It flows across the palate with skilful ease, long and citrusy. It also has a lovely inner sweetness contrasted by candied lime and salty minerals. Finishes structured and crisp, with a crisp green apple and residual acidity that begs for the next sip. The complexity of this wine is unrivalled, coupled with an overwhelming balance.
