Barbaresco “La Casa in Collina” DOCG 2021
Terre da Vino's intensely coloured Barbaresco La Casa in Collina has an interesting aroma of flowers, sour cherries, cedar wood and mint chocolate. The juicy flavour is extremely balanced with excellent persistence. SUPERIORE.DE
"Intensely bright ruby red colour with a slightly brightening rim. Delicate aroma of cherries and plums on the nose, spicy paired with tobacco leaf and a hint of liquorice. Tight entry on the palate, fresh and juicy as it progresses, with tight and grippy tannins and a slightly drying final." Falstaff

Barbaresco DOCG 2021
Light ruby red with orange reflections. Fine bouquet of violets, forest floor, cherries and a balsamic camphor note. Marasca cherry, some raspberry, liquorice and a hint of mint on the palate. An animating acidity and the right amount of powdery tannins round off the lively and long final. SUPERIORE.DE
"Dense, deep red berry flavours, dark cherries, firmly framed by grippy tannins, still slightly porous in texture, rather a head of character that still needs to round off a little." Weinwisser
"This is a bright and perfumed Barbaresco that shows potpourri, rosehips, dried strawberries and orange peel on the nose. It is medium-bodied, tangy and lively, with firm tannins and crisp acidity." James Suckling
"A vibrant blend of candied and fresh red fruits, bay leaf and green herbs, with hints of cinchona bark and blooming rose. Dried cherry leads the palate in a tangy, delicious dance with a playful herbal note. Elegant tannins frame the entire palate, while notes of gravel and earth finish the wine." Wine Enthusiast
"The Fontanabianca 2021 Barbaresco delivers sharp, pinpoint focus with cherry and cassis over a medium-plus mouthfeel. The fruit takes center stage, but the wine also unfolds slowly over time to showcase crushed stone, dried herbs and pressed violet." Wine Advocate

"Fresh and floral in aroma, this medium-bodied wine offers charming flavours of rose petal, orange peel and rooibos tea, followed by tangy raspberry, citrus and red cherry with good depth and length on the finish." James Suckling
"The Fontanabianca 2021 Barbaresco Bordini, in the bottle with the black label, represents a step up in terms of focus and power over the village bottling. This wine is extremely direct and linear with red and purple fruits, crushed stone and herbs." Wine Advocate

The Nebbiolo grapes for this archetypal Barbaresco come from marl soils at an altitude of about 250 metres. After two years of ageing in large wood and a further 6-7 (!) years of bottle maturity, here comes a wine on the market which, with its perfectly matured tannins and fine sweet melting, is already giving even the most impatient Nebbiolo fan a lot of pleasure.
Ruby red with garnet reflections, convincing, spicy bouquet of violets, moss, rose petals and small red fruits. Nice pressure on the palate, yet open-hearted, fresh and full-bodied, with well-dosed extract-sweet notes of maraschino cherry and a beautiful fruit that promises another great future in combination with the fine-meshed tannin. SUPERIORE.DE
"Rich bright cherry red with dark reflections. Inviting bouquet of juicy wild raspberries, blackberries, also something of cardamom and delicate bourbon vanilla. Pleasant on the nose, winds gracefully through the palate, powerful in body with a sparse structure, yet clear, goes into the lingering final with good pressure." Falstaff
"Lustrous maturing ruby with orange tinges. Sweetly scented ripe cherry nose with the merest suggestion of fruit cake and hugely appealing. A succulent mouthful of marasca-cherry fruit with coating tannins. Long, concentrated and highly enjoyable and still not at its peak." Jancis Robinson
"Rich and broad with a fleshy opulence to the wine. Blackberries touched by truffle oil, smoked meats, and dried herb perfume." Decanter
"A solid 2015 Barbaresco with spice, cedar and plum character. Full body, lots of fruit and chewy tannins. This needs time to soften and come together." James Suckling

Barbaresco Bordini DOCG 2020
Medium-deep ruby red with orange reflections. Wonderful bouquet of fine sour cherry and strawberry compote with restrained oak spice. Multi-layered and juicy on the palate with a potpourri of dark fruits, framed by fine-grained tannins. Well structured, it leads into an interesting, long finish. SUPERIORE.DE
"This red wine is fleshy and shows notes of cherries, strawberries, mint and earth, accompanied by a firm, lively structure. Although this wine sounds rather austere now, it is fresh and has a lingering fruity and spicy aftertaste." Wine Spectator
"This wine is lively and racy with ripe raspberries, blackcurrant leaves, rose petals and bergamot. Also dry earth. Medium to full body with crisp tannins and chalky texture. Structured and a little chewy, yet fresh and red-fruited with a mineral finish." James Suckling
"The Barbaresco Bordini 2020 (with fruit from the village of Neive) shows a medium-bodied density with more texture and structure in this vintage. The Bordini is a little more austere in character and savoury overall. This added richness is accompanied by an open approach that makes this wine approachable in the medium term. Or you can wait if you prefer." Wine Advocate
"Black raspberries, medicinal herbs and spiced tea dominate the aromatic profile. The firm palate reveals that the fruit is at the core, surrounded by sweet and savory spices, including notes of cigar box and worn leather. Mouthwatering acidity adds to its appeal." Wine Enthusiast

Barbaresco Serraboella DOCG 2021
Medium ruby red with orange-coloured reflections. Deep, concentrated bouquet with some lift and brooding intensity. Concentrated and long, but convincingly balanced by an integrated acidity and a rich layer of sandy tannins. Good potential, even if it can be enjoyed now. SUPERIORE.DE
"A luscious cherry and raspberry center gives this wine a generous, welcoming profile despite typically taut tannins. Great acidity balances the delicious red fruits that build on the palate and linger in the finish." James Suckling
"Simmering black cherry aromas dusted with a full spice cabinet lift from the glass in an almost ghostly manner. Dried rose petals along side sage, bay leaf, thyme and black tea develop as the wine opens. Just like a wave the wine stars off in the distance but swells to a crescendo of tart red fruits, savory spices, tobacco and dried earth. Elegant tannins hold the wine in place wanting to share the load with a savory dish of roasted meats and veggies." Wine Enthusiast

Barbaresco Serraboella DOCG 2020
Medium ruby red with orange-coloured reflections. Deep, concentrated bouquet with some lift and brooding intensity. Concentrated and long, but convincingly balanced by an integrated acidity and a rich layer of sandy tannins. Good potential, even if it can be enjoyed now. SUPERIORE.DE
"Very pale ruby in the glass, with mushroom earthiness, straw, strawberry, cinnamon and a meaty touch. This fierce character is supported by a very savoury attack, with delicate acid, polished and vibrant tannins: a large palate and a lot of details. There is great balance despite a bit of austerity on the finish. Super-classic for ageing." Decanter
"Fresh and crunchy with red fruit, dried herbs, potpourri and moist earth. Medium- to full-bodied with firm tannins, that are ripe and velvety. Dry and a little chewy at the end with attractive fruit coming through." James Suckling
"Packaged with a black label and eye-catching lettering in red, the Fontanabianca 2020 Barbaresco Serraboella reveals a very fine, almost dusty personality with wild berry, crushed rose and wet river stone. The wine is beautifully balanced, with dry tannins presented next to delicately sweet berry fruit. The Serraboella shows the careful winemaking practiced at this estate. Only 4,000 bottles were made." Wine Advocate
"Reserved yet somewhat haunting on the nose, this wine presents pristine dark-berried fruit aromas, dried rose and savory spices. Warmed and macerated black cherry shines on the palate, accompanied by mouthwatering acidity and a solid earthy bass note with firm, yet fine tannins. This wine is meant to be savored." Barbaresco DOCG 2021
"For us, it is important that a good Barbaresco fully expresses its characteristics: elegance, finesse and harmony. The 2020 vintage has given us a complete wine that is very fascinating and has excellent ageing potential. Although it is drinkable now, we recommend storing a few bottles to observe its development. We are excited to see how it will develop over the coming years." Franco Massolino
The grapes for Massolino's Barbaresco come from the Starderi, Albesani and Serraboella vineyards. Medium garnet red in colour with rust-red highlights. A charming bouquet of bright red fruit, rose petals and violets. Rather delicate on the palate, with an elegance and finesse that is completely convincing even at a young age. As it progresses, it reveals a seductive fruit centre, fine tannins and a well-proportioned acidity structure that opens up a great future for it. Very well made! SUPERIORE.DE
"Bright, light garnet red colour. Delicate, restrained nose of small red fruits and sour cherries, with a leather and light undergrowth aftertaste. Retronasal clearly redcurrant, elegant palate with fine-grained tannins, good drinking flow, needs some air and should be decanted." Falstaff
"Brilliant medium carmine red colour. Dark cherry, which becomes mineral and salty with air. Loosened up and a little balsamic with a hint of liquorice. Fresh cherry and raspberry flavours with grippy tannins." Jancis Robinson
"Aromas of herbs, twigs and savoury spices intertwine with macerating red berries and a hint of mushrooms. Beautifully firm tannins frame fresh red berry flavours bursting with vitality, while sweet spices accompany the palate through to an elegant finish." Wine Enthusiast
"A floral nose with aromas of red cranberries. Lots of juicy red and black fruit on the palate, powerful and firmly structured, full with tannins and bright acidity." Decanter
"Bright aromas of cinnamon and earthy strawberries with violets and dried cherries. Powerful, with pronounced acidity, dusty but ripe tannins and ripe fruit on the finish. An accessible Barbaresco that will also age well." James Suckling
"The 2021 Barbaresco is a blend from parcels in Albesani, Serraboella and Starderi. Graceful and nuanced, the 2021 offers notes of crushed flowers, orange peel, mint, sweet red berries and spices. The harvestwill find a Barbaresco in a class of its own. Outstanding flavours, a medium-weight structure and persistent but fine tannins give the wine its shape. This is wonderfully made." Vinous
"Aromas and flavours of cherry, strawberry, rose, hay and white pepper combine with a firm structure and lively acidity in this expressive, complex red wine, which is harmonious and long in the fruity and spicy finish." Wine Spectator
"The Massolino 2021 Barbaresco has a lovely bouquet that admittedly leans toward the riper side of the Nebbiolo spectrum with mineral notes, redcurrant and dried flower. The wine feels fresh and tart on the palate, and you do get extra textural heft and fiber in this vintage." Wine Advocate

"The 2019 Barbaresco Reyna is bright, fruity and forward, making it a good choice to drink now and in the years to come. Sweet floral accents, spices and a hint of orange peel give it freshness. The wine has a nice depth and density." Vinous

Barbaresco DOCG 2020
The grapes for the Barbaresco come mainly from the top vineyards Pora, Ovello, Montestefano, Muncagota and Rio Sordo. Deep, lively ruby to garnet red colour. A broad bouquet of red fruit and biscuits with a hint of minerality. The palate is characterised by a rich, solid structure and a continuous development that ends in a long, fragrant final. Every year, the leading Italian winegrowers' cooperative shows what it and its members are capable of with its basic Barbaresco. SUPERIORE.DE
"It is aromatic and attractive with notes of dried cherries, hibiscus, cocoa and bark, followed by a medium body with polished and refined tannins with a velvety texture and a linear finish. Fresh and floral on the finish with a bright red fruit backbone." James Suckling
"The 2020 Barbaresco is a beautiful, harmonious wine that will drink well with minimal cellaring time. Forward fruit and soft curves are perhaps a little atypical for a young Barbaresco, but this also makes the wine very enjoyable. Juicy red cherry and plum fruit, rose petals, spices, cedar, mint and tobacco combine in the glass. Classicists will probably prefer other vintages, but it's hard not to like the 2020 for its charming, exuberant personality. At the same time, aeration brings out a greater aromatic presence and also a good structure." Vinous
"Still vinous, with youthful strawberry notes, rosebud, violets, liquorice and a hint of cinnamon. Spicy and floral on the palate, dominated by firm, crisp and persistent acidity and velvety, ripe tannins of astonishing quality; perhaps a little austere on the finish. Amazing Barbaresco. Here we have the Barbaresco co-operative, known for producing some of the best value quality wines in the Langhe." Decanter
"Be inspired by the harmonious blend of cooked cherries and a range of spice blends, accompanied by subtle hints of medicinal herbs and rose water. Soft and rounded, but with a noticeable spiciness, this wine presents a fruit-driven profile with flavours of cherry and raspberry complemented by a refreshing acidity. Its polished and elegant character develops in the bottle and will age long into the future, while it is already great today." Wine Enthusiast
"The 2020 Barbaresco offers a wealth of flavours of wild cherries, blue flowers, sweet spices and crushed limestone. As always, the wine paints an exciting and authentic portrait of Nebbiolo, albeit with a little more richness and texture in this vintage. This is especially true on the palate, where the wine offers a medium-bodied intensity with melting tannins." Wine Advocate

Barbaresco DOCG 2021
Prunotto's Barbaresco shows a strong dose of Nebbiolo personality and opens with balanced notes of dried berries, liquorice, tar and blue flowers. The ensemble is delicate and fresh. What makes this wine so attractive is the fact that it offers such a clear and unadulterated view of the grape, which comes across particularly well in this very attractive drop. The finish is full of elegance and silk. SUPERIORE.DE
"Bright ruby red with a brightening rim. Very fine nuances of redcurrants, raspberries and cranberries on the nose, some leather and floral notes of violets. Equally delicate fruit flavours on the palate, accompanied by elegant tannins and a long final with a fruity aftertaste." Falstaff
"The 2021 Barbaresco is a great wine to drink now and over the next few years. Crushed red berry fruit, cedar, spice, mint and orange peel are beautifully showcased in this ethereal, understated Barbaresco from Prunotto." Vinous
"Showing a light and luminous appearance, the Prunotto 2021 Barbaresco stands out for its focus, its finesse and its delicately sweet fruit tones. The wine is redolent of cassis, forest flower and peat moss, and there is a hint of tobacco that points to the wine's savory side." Wine Advocate

Barbaresco Bordini DOCG 2020
Cognos Barbaresco from the top Bordini vineyard is a centred and firm Nebbiolo that is one of the more powerful representatives of the appellation. However, it only reveals its great aromatic potential at second glance: Cherry, blackberry, hints of spice and a little freshly chopped mint. Then some speculoos, walnut, salty tones and tobacco. Acidity and tannin form a perfect symbiosis and at the same time the backbone of this impressive Barbaresco, which will give pleasure for many years to come. SUPERIORE.DE
"The Elvio Cogno 2020 Barbaresco Bordini is particularly powerful and powerful in terms of fruit. This expression of a hot vintage offers a medium fruit texture with a classic presentation of cherry, redcurrant, liquorice, blue flower and spice. It needs a few more years of bottle age, but we are not far from optimal drinking maturity." Wine Advocate
"A bright, well-defined red with aromas and flavours of cherries, strawberries, liquorice and wild herbs. Smooth in texture, it firms up nicely, with finely crafted tannins and a lingering aftertaste." Wine Spectator
"Attractive raspberries and cherries with a hint of roselle and red spices. Also some blood orange. Medium to full-bodied, polished and refined with compact tannins and a velvety texture. It is ripe but fresh, with a pure and lively red fruit character and a long finish. Attractive now, but even better after 2025." James Suckling
"Dusty red berries and raspberry aromas intertwine with chalky notes, creating an electric and energetic aromatic profile. The wine showcases fine yet firm tannins, displaying excellent structure with a core of tart red fruits today that will give way over time to more of the wine's savory and mineral characteristics." "The Barbaresco Reyna 2021 is a wonderful entry-level offering from Michele Chiarlo. Fresh, lively and exuberant, it has so much to offer. Lush dark red/purple fruit, rose petals, cedar, cinnamon, mint and blood orange are all beautifully highlighted. The 2021 shows all the textural depth that is so typical of this wine, but with an added kick of freshness that these wines don't always possess. I hope the 2021 Reyna is a sign of things to come." Dark red fruits, cloves, leather, orange peel and saddle leather lend the 2021 beautiful exotic elements that contribute to its beguiling personality. Clean mineral notes extend the finish." Vinous
"The Prunotto 2021 Barbaresco Bric Turot shows an expressive savory side that to my tastes translates as more roots than flowers. Dark fruit is followed by tilled earth, petrichor and toasted almond husk." Wine Advocate
"Walnuts, cherry stones, strawberries and tobacco on the nose. It is full-bodied and well-framed, with fine, slightly chalky tannins. Lots of finesse and length." James Suckling

Barbaresco Bordini DOCG 2021 (BIO)
Dark fruits on the nose, nuanced with spices, tar, liquorice and wild berries. The mouthfeel is soft and supple with a persistent and silky texture. Here is a Nebbiolo that exudes character and personality. Barbaresco Vigneto Bordini is a precise interpretation of the grape that draws a fine line between elegance and power with ease. SUPERIORE.DE
"The Barbaresco Vigneto Bordini 2021 is a very beautiful, open wine. Crushed flowers, red cherry/plum, leather, spice, menthol and blood orange are to the fore. Bordini's wines tend to be a bit more tannic, but the 2021 here is quite approachable. Floral and spicy nuances lift the finish." Vinous
"The La Spinetta 2021 Barbaresco Bordini, with organic fruit from the village of Neive, offers a voluptuous interpretation of Nebbiolo with fragrant tones of rose, blue flowers and sweet cherry on the close. The wine delivers more heft and fruit weight overall with pretty notes of crushed aspirin on the finish. It also tastes a bit stemmy with rosemary and dried herb. " Wine Advocate
"Lots of petals, dried strawberries, cedar and milk chocolate on the nose and palate. Medium to full-bodied with tannins that build on the palate and are long and persistent. It softens at the end as it grows on the palate." James Suckling

Barbaresco “Tulin” DOCG 2019
The Barbaresco Tulin is a convincing middle ground in Giorgio Pelissero's range. It has the richness normally found in his wines, but also a good dose of freshness. Floral and spicy nuances interweave with a core of red and purple berry fruit, giving it a striking inner flavour and energy. Tulin is an impressive wine that is characterised by its balance. SUPERIORE.DE
"Aromas of cherry and plum pie with sweet baking spices fill the glass as balsam, cedar and sandalwood emerge with more air. Rounded on the palate with juicy mixed berry preserves combined with licorice and turned earth finishing with fine tannins and a long roasted coffee bean note." Wine Enthusiast
"The 2019 Barbaresco Tulin is a dense, powerful wine that shows an abundance of dark red fruit, spice, mocha and blood orange. It has good depth, but the 2019 feels like it is still emerging. Present tannins give the Tulin a rather darker impression." Vinous
"An expressive Barbaresco with aromas and flavours of cherries, raspberries, flowers, liquorice and menthol. Rich and harmonious, with well-integrated tannins that support the entire wine. Balanced and with a long finish." Wine Spectator

Barbaresco DOCG 2018
Bright and radiant, with lots of Nebbiolo character, it is a successful interpretation of the terroir and shows the great class of the winery. On the nose, sweet red cherries, tobacco, mint, anise and white pepper. Medium-bodied and graceful on the palate with a good balance of perfume, acidity and structure. With further bottle ageing, it looks forward to a great evolution. SUPERIORE.DE
"Medium-light red; fruity-smoky, also barrel, caramel, rubber, inviting; fruit, medium-bodied, powerful, lots of round tannin, length." Merum
"Sparkling, medium-dense ruby garnet. Inviting, very finely marked nose with pronounced notes of wild raspberry, rosehip and black tea. Substantial, with pithy tannin on the palate, showing lots of pressure, savoury, lingers long." Falstaff
"Straight medium ruby. Perfumed cherry fruit with subtle oak and a hint of cumin. Fresh, supple cherry fruit with a spicy note and firm but ripe and crisp tannins. Great length and juiciness." Jancis Robinson
"A rich, earthy style that evokes aromas of cherry, raspberry, iron and tobacco. Broad tannins announce the finish, but it remains balanced and long." Wine Spectator
"The 2018 Barbaresco Pio is noble, elegant and wonderfully polished. Sweet spices, cedar, tobacco, leather and dried cherries open up effortlessly. This graceful, medium-bodied Barbaresco has a lot going for it and is very drinkable from the start. The silky, ethereal qualities of the Nebbiolo are evident." Vinous
"Pio Cesare stands out for its classics, and this wine is one of them. The 2018 Barbaresco (released a year later than its competitors) offers a light ripeness of candied raspberry with lilac, tarry smoke, cedar and spice. The mouthfeel is silky smooth with gently integrated tannins." Wine Advocate
"Strawberries with notes of walnuts, asphalt and bark. Also dried flowers. Full-bodied with fine, racy tannins and a very long, beautiful finish. Fine tannins. Shows excellent length for the vintage." James Suckling
"The Barbaresco of Pio Cesare, always a certainty, from the Treiso and San Rocco sub-areas. On the nose, red currants in jam, with nuances of star anise and rhubarb. The mouthfeel is crisp, dense, with spicy tannins and a fruity finish." Luca Gardini

Barbaresco DOCG 2019 (BIO)
Ceretto's entry-level Barbaresco comes from different sites, mostly younger vines from Asili (35%) and the lower part of Bernadot (65%). Bright, elegant ruby red. It has full energy and vivacity and offers excellent persistence and remarkable balance. On the nose, sweet red cherry, mint, pine, liquorice and candied orange peel. Taut and ferruginous on the palate, very juicy, salty, stretches precisely across the tongue, with some pressure, considerable juicy-long finish. After good aeration already impressively accessible when young. SUPERIORE.DE
"Bright garnet red with ruby reflections. Intense nose of sour cherry and rosehip, then some leather, tobacco and forest floor, complex. On the palate filigree mouth entry, with soft tannin, harmonious and well balanced, elegant, juicy finish." Falstaff
"This has aromas of oak and toasted nut that come to the forefront while berry and spice stay in the background. Tightly wound and primary, the palate offers raspberry jam, vanilla and licorice alongside close-grained tannins that grip the close. Fresh acidity keeps it bright." Wine Enthusiast
"The 2019 Barbaresco is bright and nicely focused. Crushed red berry fruit, cedar, tobacco and spice are lifted. Veins of supporting tannin and acid give this mid-weight, nervy Barbaresco lovely energy. The 2019 is elegant and also quite promising." Vinous
"The 2019 Barbaresco displays high-toned aromas of sweet raspberries, rose petals and liquorice that anticipates an open-knit palate with clear-cut flavours of crunchy raspberries and redcurrants. Ripe acidity and well-extracted tannins extend the attractively floral and balsamic finish." Decanter
"This is a very firm young Barbaresco with dried strawberry, crunchy fruit and fresh flowers, such as roses. Bitter lemon and tar, too. Full-bodied, chewy and polished. Flavorful finish." James Suckling
"The Ceretto 2019 Barbaresco is an organic wine that paints a clear picture of a beautiful vintage. Tart cherry, white licorice and dusty earth lift from the bouquet and give this wine a sharp sense of focus and intensity. Ceretto has released a superb set of Barbarescos this year, starting with this classic expression." Wine Advocate

Barbaresco Pajè Riserva DOCG 2019
Pajé is a small vineyard near the village of Barbaresco, whose calcareous soils generally produce bright and floral wines and this wine fulfils this expectation in an impressive way, combined with an already remarkable density, which it only gradually reveals. On the nose, it shows intensity and purity, with penetrating aromas of red fruits. The attack is supple, bright but weighty and very focussed. The lively acidity lends tension and persistence to the finish. Already tantalising today, but with the unclouded prospect of further positive surprises! SUPERIORE.DE
"The Barbaresco Riserva Pajè 2019 is full of character. Strong mineral, spicy and floral notes jump out of the glass before tannin veins make themselves felt on the palate. The Pajè is a powerful, young Barbaresco that will need a few more years to develop. Nevertheless, all of its characteristics are very present." Vinous
"Plenty of fruit character on the nose with dried cherries and potpourri. The tannins linger on the palate, with a medium body, refreshing acidity and warming alcohol. Focused with liquorice notes on the finish." James Suckling
"This elegant and expressive red wine with aromas of roses, strawberries and cherries is harmonious and charming. Mineral and wild herb flavours add notes of grace to the wine, while the finish lingers with a blend of fruit and minerality." Wine Spectator
"The Pajé always represents the lively, sparkling wine within Produttori's Riserva range. This vintage remains true to this, albeit with a slightly darker note on the nose. Aromas of crushed raspberries mingle with black cherries, fresh bay leaf and sweet spice. At first sip, the head spins with delight as wild berries, dried roses and sage quickly emerge, tamed by fine tannins and a lively acidity that acts more as a leader, inviting all to wait a little longer to show their merits." Wine Enthusiast
"The 2019 Barbaresco Riserva Pajè reveals a medium-dark appearance with purple and redcurrants, heritage rose and spicy cardamom. A pretty note of iron ore or metallic mineral is folded within. Pajè brings us an accessible profile with silky, resolved tannins." Wine Advocate

Pora overwhelms with incredible complexity and a variety of aromas ranging from stone fruit, raspberries and liquorice to dried flowers, spices and white truffle. Despite all its lush fruit, the Pora has a good structural foundation. Juicy notes of dark cherries, plums, espresso, menthol and liquorice unfold in this forward, wonderfully inviting Riserva from the Produttori. The wine overflows with flavours, but its lean and polished personality continues on the palate. Multi-layered, exciting and still quite youthfully austere today, it needs a few years to relax and develop. SUPERIORE.DE
"The 2019 Barbaresco Riserva Pora is still a fairly tight-knit wine, certainly more so than is typical of this Barbaresco, which is often much more inviting in the early stages. Dried herbs, tobacco, cedar and earthiness give this decidedly dark Pora a remarkable savoury nuance. It has good fruit intensity and plenty of character." Vinous
"Attractive notes of redcurrants and cherries with hints of cedar, walnuts and crushed stones. Juicy with bright fruit and firm, chalky tannins. Medium to full-bodied. The finish is long-lasting and slightly viscous with notes of bitter orange." James Suckling
"Full of cherry, strawberry, rose, stone and spice flavours, this tight-knit red wine is both open and muscular, with refined tannins that come through on the finish. Broad and intense, with plenty of energy on the finish." Wine Spectator
"The Produtori del Barbaresco 2019 Barbaresco Riserva Pora represents a classic vintage. This results in medium-plus concentration and a velvety texture. The bouquet shows blackberry, spice and sweet earth. This is a pretty wine with some grit to the tannins but otherwise shows a soft and accessible personality. More oxidative in character, this is great for near or medium-term drinking." Wine Advocate
"Aromas of sandalwood, rosewood and plums lead the nose of this Barbaresco. As the wine develops, notes of violets and dark spices emerge. There is a certain seriousness on the palate. The dark fruits stand firm, while savoury flavours fill out the ranks. The tannins are firm but not overpowering, yet remain taut and polished." Wine Enthusiast

The single-vineyard Barbaresco Riserva Ovello is, as always, one of the outstanding wines in this series. It shows the energy and tension so typical of this site, but with a slightly more mature profile than is the norm. Ovello dives straight into the volatile Nebbiolo aromas, with a focus on liquorice, tar, blue flowers and campfire ash. The palate is full-bodied, with flavours of crushed raspberries, juicy Marasca cherries, liquorice and nutmeg as well as firm, tight-knit tannins. The fresh acidity provides tension and balance. Looking at the timeline of Riserva wines, this wine reaches the magical threshold at which Nebbiolo begins to unfold its unique aromatic appeal and mystique ... SUPERIORE.DE
"Floral lightness with a fleshy character and earthy notes of cherries and pomegranates. Firm tannins and crisp acidity on the classic, extract-rich palate, with a massive structure, medium body and juicy finish." James Suckling
"The Barbaresco Riserva Ovello 2019 is powerful, savoury and intensely straightforward in the style of the Ovello Classico, and yet behind its imposing tannins it seems to have enough fruit to develop well over the coming years. In this tasting, the Ovello feels quite closed after bottling, but its inherent balance and qualities are there. Clean savoury notes extend the finish in a promising way." Vinous
"Round and supple, this red wine shows flavours of cherry, raspberry, rose, iron and menthol. Although well-structured, it finishes with a bloom of red fruit and energy. All the elements are there, so give it a few years to integrate." Wine Spectator
"The Produttori del Barbaresco 2019 Barbaresco Riserva Ovello is a tighter wine with more elegant mineral definition. However, this wine is not as accessible and remains a little shy or closed at this young stage in its life. The tannins are well managed that naturally delivers more richness and concentration. It needs a little more time to shed that nervous tension." Wine Advocate
"A perfect mixed garden, with aromas of upturned earth, harvest-ripe blackberries, fragrant herbs and warmed raspberries sitting in their pool, making their way in and out of the glass. Spicy aromas of mixed herbs, tobacco and liquorice root open the palate, while flavours of cherry and cornberry flash with fresh acidity against a backdrop of elegant and taut tannins." First mentioned in writing in 1799, it quickly attracted the attention of international wine connoisseurs: the great garnet red Barbaresco. The vineyards of the DOCG of the same name in Piedmont - more precisely in the Langhe in the province of Cuneo - begin at the north-eastern foothills of the truffle town of Alba and extend over the territory of the three municipalities of Barbaresco, Treiso and Neive. It is a small, manageable cultivation area: hardly more than three million bottles are produced here every year. The Barbaresco cannot be explained without referring to the Barolo, because the latter has the longer tradition, the larger cultivation area and the somewhat stricter rules. Another special feature is that the Langhe 2014 was declared a UNESCO World Heritage Site as a land of milk and honey for connoisseurs.
The Barbaresco is made exclusively from Nebbiolo grapes. The vineyards of wine producers such as Angelo Gaja, Bruno Giacosa, Elvio Cogno, La Spinetta, Pelissero or the Produttori di Barbaresco winegrowers' cooperative are generally a little lower than those around Barolo and have slightly lighter, sandier soils which also contain more copper and zinc. The climate in the Barbaresco DOCG is somewhat warmer and drier than in the neighbouring Denomination, so that the plants reach their full maturity a little earlier.
The Nebbiolo grape is one of the greatest native grapes of Italy and is characterized by a distinctive acidity. Their shells release many tannins, which are initially hard and angular. Nevertheless, Barbaresco's long-lived wines, which are somewhat earlier to drink than Barolo's, are on average less lavish, but are generally finer, more delicate, more elegant and more supple. Most drops have more charm because they are more characterized by a soft fruit than by tannin. However, those who wanted to deduce from this that Barbaresco, often mentioned in the same breath as Barolo and Brunello, is of lesser importance would be subject to a great error, especially since some producers also produce wines in a powerful style that can stand up to the two competitors in opulence and heaviness.
The festive wine from the Langhe can be very well combined with food. Barbaresco is a very good accompaniment to strong cheeses, roasts and game dishes. The growths are traditionally aged in large old oak and chestnut barrels in which they must mature for at least one year before being bottled after at least two years - often four years - of ageing. Then the plants, which originate mainly from good years, often continue to develop in the bottle for another decade before they show all their strength, volume and elegance. The generally milder nature of Barbaresco made considerations about how to make wines drinkable earlier less compelling than in Barolo. But Barbaresco has also experimented with shorter fermentation times and shorter maturation in new oak, achieving amazing results.
A visit to Barbaresco must begin with Angelo Gaja. Italy's best-known winemaker helped the wine, which has had DOCG status since 1980, to its international breakthrough when in 1961 he decided to press his drops exclusively with his own grapes and no longer buy any fruit from other producers. After that he caused a sensation when some of his wines "downgraded" and only as Langhe put Nebbiolo in the bottle. However, this has not affected the fame and also the price development of his wines - quite the contrary. In the past 30 years, many small quality-conscious wineries have been established. The winegrowers have remained conservative to this day. Although absolute peak levels around the 700-people village of Barbaresco are reached by fewer drops than in Barolo, the best can certainly compete with the products of the neighbouring region, so that the often-heard designation "Barbaresco" is often used. "little brother of Barolo" is actually only based on the price difference that still exists. SUPERIORE.DE
