The grapes for Chiarlo's classic come from various vineyards in southern Asti, in particular from the Podere La Court and Montemareto vineyards in Castelnuovo Calcea, La Serra in Montaldo Scarampi and Costa delle Monache in Agliano. Le Orme is the prototype of a young, fresh red with a clean fruit flavour of plum and blackberry. This is the fourth vintage of a truly fortuitous product. Paolo actually wanted to plant more Moscato vines in this 1.5 ha small and sustainably cultivated vineyard when he recognised the quality of the Barbera grapes ripening there in 2016. So, without further ado, he decided to vinify a Barbera, which he then aptly named "Per Sbaglio" - which means "by mistake". We congratulate him on this decision, just 3,000 bottles of which reach the market every year. Rich, sparkling ruby red. “Trevigne” Barbera d’Alba DOC 2021
In contrast to the past, this full and fragrant Barbera is now matured to a greater extent in large oak barrels - and less in barriques. This favours the softness, fruitiness and suppleness of this wonderful wine. Tre Vigne means that the grapes come in equal parts from the top vineyards Mosconi, Ginestra and San Pietro. Deep, dark ruby red in colour. The bouquet has a fine aroma of sour cherries and violets, the full and soft flavour has a pleasantly fresh acidity that enhances the long drinking pleasure. The importance of the red Barbera grape in Piedmont and large parts of Lombardy can only be compared with the position of Sangiovese in central Italy. The Barbera is a robust vine. It is relatively hardy, insensitive to spring frosts and not particularly susceptible to disease. On top of that, it reliably generates economic returns. Because of the high growth strength, leaves and shoot tips have to be cut back several times in summer. The grapes do not ripen as late as those of Nebbiolo, but later than those of Dolcetto.
Barbera wine is characterised by its intense ruby red colour and aromas often compared to wild cherries, violets or vanilla. Barbera produces wines with a low tannin content. However, the plants do not appear boring or flat because they are carried by a very strong acidity. The Barbera can retain this acidity during the ripening of the grapes, even at very high ripeness levels or during a rapid ripening process in hot climates. In combination with their fruitiness, successful Barbera wines therefore appear extremely full-bodied and rich. Among the most famous Barbera wines are the Barbera d'Alba, the Barbera d'Asti and the Barbera del Monferrato. In general, the Barbera d'Alba as the best. But the other two are hardly inferior, especially as the large DOC areas overlap at the edges and producers in these areas can choose how to label their wine. It is generally agreed that the vineyards located in the immediate vicinity of Alba and some scattered villages in the vicinity of Asti produce the best Barbera wines. SUPERIORE.DE
