Barolo “Le Coste di Monforte” DOCG 2018
Of the three Baroli from Pecchenino, Le Coste di Monforte shows the most focus and sharpness. The other two wines are much softer in their aromatic focus compared to this wine. Le Coste di Monforte offers dark fruits, balsamic herbs, spices, campfire ash and ferruginous earth in beautifully balanced proportions. This wine has a long maceration period of 60 days (at 28 degrees Celsius), which is followed by 36 months of ageing in oak barrels. This gives the wine its rich flavour profile. The fruit comes from a site of just under one hectare at an altitude of 450 metres. SUPERIORE.DE
"The 2018 Barolo Le Coste di Monforte shows some sweet oak and baking spices on the first nose. Given more time in the glass, the wine reveals dark fruits, plum, autumn leaves and forest floor. The oak tones are strong in this medium-bodied Nebbiolo and need more time to settle into the wine's lean texture, if they ever fully emerge at all." Wine Advocate
"The 2018 Barolo Le Coste di Monforte is an exotic, beguiling wine. Melted road tar, incense, scorched earth, game, tobacco and cured meat contribute to an impression of brooding gravitas. But here, too, the flavours are advanced. Powerful Monforte tannins frame the imposing finish. Still, I wouldn't push my luck with ageing." Vinous
"Expressive, featuring rose, cherry, strawberry and sun-kissed hay aromas and flavors matched to an elegant frame. Light-bodied yet charming, harmonious and persistent on the chalky finish." Wine Spectator
"The nose reveals a wild, fruity character with a sharp, truffle and earthy note. With air, a hint of chocolate emerges. Medium to full body with dense flavours of ripe berries and medium-grained tannins covered in fruit and minerals. It all seems a bit raw at the moment, but it has plenty of character and length. It's fun to try, but give it a few years to develop." James Suckling

Barolo Bussia DOCG 2016
Full bouquet of dark fruits, spices, tar, smoke and wild mushrooms. Powerful on the palate with lots of berry fruit, nice inner sweetness and considerable acid wire, classic grippy tannins and a rich, long finish. SUPERIORE.DE
"The Pecchenino 2016 Barolo Bussia is a dark, sultry and heady expression of Nebbiolo from young vines (about 15 years old) in Monforte d'Alba. Dark cherry, plum, spice and dark iron give the wine weight and density. Compared to the 2015 vintage, I found this edition to be lighter and shorter in terms of mouthfeel, with soft tannins and an open-knit, accessible personality." Wine Advocate
"Concentrated cherry and currant flavors are joined by iron, tar, eucalyptus and tobacco elements in this dense red. It stays vibrant and persistent, ending with a lightly chewy feel." Wine Spectator
"Pecchenino’s 2016 Barolo Bussia is fabulous. Dark, ample and expansive, the 2016 possesses tremendous richness and yet retains a fairly classic sense of structure. Black cherry, menthol, tobacco, licorice and incense bring out the dark, virile side of Nebbiolo. Hints of orange peel, cinnamon and star anise add layers of nuance. This muscular, potent Barolo needs time so soften, but it is impressive in the early going." Vinous
"The intense burnt oranges and rose petals are captivating here. Incense, Thai spa and candlewax add to the complexity. Tight and suggestive with bursting acidity and tensely drawn, structured tannins. Long and very vibrant and transparent. Drink from 2025." James Suckling

Barolo Coste di Rose DOCG 2018
The latest addition to Vajra's Barolo line-up comes from a 1.5 hectare parcel in Coste di Rose, a small MGA (Menzioni Geografiche Aggiuntive) in the Barolo region. This is a steep slope at 310 metres above sea level with a high proportion of sandy soils with good drainage, whose vines and soils are cultivated in a natural way. This very accessible Barolo presents itself straightforward, forward and impresses even at a young age with its refreshing frankness. A very precise bouquet of cherry, plum, liquorice, spices and menthol. On the palate, a wide and multi-layered arc of fruit with lots of juice and power, supporting tannins and a full, long and mineral-minty finish. SUPERIORE.DE
"Bright, luminous ruby red. Rich nose with floral notes of violets, roses and a slight hint of blood orange. The palate is juicy, light, with well-integrated tannins and a pleasant aftertaste. Nice acidity, fresh and mineral finish." Falstaff
"Very clean red-berry fruit on the nose, together with citrus and cedar notes. Medium body with fine-grained tannins and a tight bead of fruit at the end." James Suckling
"The 2018 Barolo Coste di Rose is a delicate, understated Barolo that will need a bit of time to fully emerge. There's lovely purity to the fruit here, but also some angular contours that need to resolve. The 2018 is a mid-weight wine in the style of the vintage, and yet there is fine balance." Vinous
"Plenty of hidden depth of black cherry and plum. Notes of Raspberry and strawberries with complexity and a fine balance and length." Decanter
"With fruit from above the village of Barolo, the G.D. Vajra 2018 Barolo Coste di Rose shows a large aromatic scope and ample substance. This vineyard is characterized by very high density Diano sandstone, which explains the wine’s bigger sensorial impact. Its texture is velvety and smooth, and the wine offers lots of purple and red fruits with soft earth and perfumed flower. The vintage is open knit and broad in scope, perhaps lacking some of the brilliant focus you get in the cooler years." Wine Advocate

Barolo “La Tartufaia” DOCG 2020
Giulia Negri would certainly not have the nickname "Barolo Girl" if this wine did not exist. The grapes for this archetype of a modern-traditional (sic!) Barolo come from the top vineyards of Brunate and Serradenari, the latter of which lies at an altitude of up to 520 metres and the soils are clayey-sandy. The grapes are fermented spontaneously and then matured in large oak barrels. Barriques? Not a chance.
Deep, light ruby red colour. Rose petals, nutty notes and small red berries on the nose. The fine aroma continues on the palate: even though it does not deny its origin or the grape variety, it has an almost unique elegance and freshness that makes it recognisable as a lively and complete top wine even at a young age. Further years of ageing are certainly not a mistake, as you can impressively feel how the increasing complexity with age joins the finesse and elegance that is already unmistakable today. A bottle for now and the rest not too far away in the cellar! SUPERIORE.DE
"This wine is deeply rooted in terroir, exuding a tapestry of forest floor, tar, earthy clay, and an range of medicinal herbs. Crushed cherries and raspberries move between the more savory note gently lifting the wine. Structured with vibrant acidity that lifts the tart red fruit flavors across the palate as fresh herbs and pine needle accents add to the complex nature of this wine." Wine Enthusiast

Limitation of 3 articles per customerBarolo “Castiglione” DOCG 2020
As always, Castiglione is mainly based on grapes from Ravera, with smaller portions from Ginestra, Mosconi, Bricco Ravera (in Monforte), Le Coste, Costabelle, Meriame, Briccolina and Codana. Every year it is a dazzling wine that shows how convincing even an "entry-level wine" from a top producer can be. Rich, voluptuous and explosive, it has enormous fullness and resonance from the very first sip. On the nose, bright red cherry and plum fruit, wild flowers, mint, blood orange and spices. Its silky tannins are accompanied by a beautiful, mentholated brightness. A real charmer! SUPERIORE.DE
"Sparkling ruby with garnet-red reflections. Elegant on the nose with notes of raspberries and black cherries, slightly ethereal after varnish, plus undergrowth and rose petal. Fresh fruit on the palate, carried by invigorating acidity and fine-grained tannins. Persistent." Falstaff
"Always a popular choice, the 2020 Barolo Castiglione has a lush approach with dark fruit, cola, wild berry coulis and smoky tar. The wine carries a hot vintage well, with approachable and powdery tannins for short- or medium-term drinkability. In terms of texture, the Castiglione has more power and body than a standard Barolo." Wine Advocate
"Fragrant, polished and vibrant, the 2020 Barolo Castiglione shows beautiful notes of crushed red berries, rose petals, mint, white pepper and orange peel from the start. This classically built, medium-bodied Barolo is noble through and through. Like all 2020s here, it will benefit from time in the bottle or good decanting." Vinous
"Fast-paced and concentrated. I like the aromas of lavender, violets and white roses alongside strawberry, cranberry and stone. Medium-bodied, with firm and fine tannins that are long and juicy. It is fine and polished. Needs three to four years to develop." James Suckling

Brilliant ruby red, a fully ripe berry bouquet with warm spicy, mushroom and cocoa notes on the nose. Rich and juicy on the palate with sweet oak and lush fruit. Ravera Riserva ends with a firm finish that once again reveals ripe fruit and polished tannins. SUPERIORE.DE
"Brilliant, rich ruby garnet colour. Fragrant and inviting nose of fresh wild strawberries, violets and elderberries, with fine sweet spices on the finish. Polished on the palate with a remarkably juicy undertone, gripping tannins accompany the attack and finish, pithy finish." Falstaff
"Bright ruby red colour. Complex nose of cherry, iron and blood orange with a hint of oak. Juicy, lush fruit with grippy but fine tannins. Lots of juice and fruit, with long, subliminal tannins. Fantastic bite and juiciness on the finish." Jancis Robinson
"Very pleasant, fruity aromas of sweet wild strawberries and crushed raspberries are followed by a full-bodied palate with fine, firm tannins and plenty of fruit flavour that fades into a nutty, creamy aftertaste." James Suckling

Barolo DOCG 2018 (BIO)
Ceretto vinifies four masterful site Baroli with the Bricco Rocche, Bussia, Brunate and Prapò. If you cannot decide between these wines, you will find this excellent alternative in the winery's basic Barolo.
Elegant, bright ruby red. Dark intensity with great aromatic richness, including ripe cherry and raspberry, paired with noble spice and gentle use of wood. Fruity and floral notes are followed by traces of iron and a delicate portion of liquorice. The aromas are delicate and fragile, and the wine cleverly hides its power in the soft folds of its slender, medium-weight mouthfeel. Polished and clear on the palate, spreads out with delicate creamy tannins, salty undertones, great length. SUPERIORE.DE
"Bright ruby red with light garnet reflections. The nose is light and elegant with notes of cherry, raspberry and blood orange followed by elegant spice. The palate is juicy with a spicy aftertaste. Pleasant length and persistence." Falstaff
"A round red, boasting plum, cherry, mint, iron and tar flavors. The tannins are firm but meld nicely already at this young stage, leaving room for an aftertaste of fruit, savory, earth and mineral notes on the finish." Wine Spectator
"Very floral and attractive already on the nose. Bright and clean fruit on the palate with medium body, dusty and fine tannins and a chewy finish. Solid and age–able. From organically grown grapes. Very well made for the vintage. Best after 2024." James Suckling
"The organic 2018 Barolo falls in line with vintage expectations with a very smooth and silky personality that caresses the palate. Dark rose, cherry and licorice cede to a polished, mid–weight palate." Wine Advocate

Barolo “Briccolina” DOCG 2016
This top Barolo comes from the enchanting Corda della Briccolina parcel in Serralunga d'Alba and is the only one of the estate's impressive Barolo range to be matured in barriques. Garnet red in colour with a beguiling aroma of rose petals, rock candy, caramel and dried fruit. Powerful, solemn on the palate, with present tannins and a long, harmonious finish. SUPERIORE.DE
"Nose of black cherries and ripe raspberries. Great intensity on the palate, followed by firm tannins and a long, fresh finish." Decanter
"The Beni di Batasiolo 2016 Barolo Briccolina sources its fruit from Serralunga d'Alba, and you can count on more fruit weight and power as a result. This wine shows a dark garnet red colour with sweet cherry and blackberry nuances. These dark fruit tones are underlined by spices, earthy loam and grilled herbs." Wine Advocate
"Rich and smoky with lots of fruit and toasted oak, but not overdone. Full body, crisp tannins and a juicy finish." James Suckling
"Somewhat dried-vegetable and very slightly iodised aroma of red and black berries with distinct tar. Clear, firm, juicy, polished fruit, fine, youthful, yet present tannin, dried floral nuances, cocoa and a little tobacco, again also tar, persistent, good depth, also coffee in the background, multi-layered, has a certain elegance, very good, firm, again quite juicy finish with bacony and fine spicy nuances." Barolo DOCG 2018
The grapes for the estate's classic Barolo come from the vineyards/communes of Ornato, La Serra, Briccolina in Serralunga d'Alba, Gustava and Garretti in Grinzane Cavour, Roncaglie in La Morra, Ravera in Novello and, from the 2015 vintage, also from Mosconi in Monforte d'Alba. It is more of a traditional, classic Barolo with an exciting bouquet of deep, dark fruit and a pretty potpourri of rose petals, spices, smoke and tar. It is full-bodied and firm on the palate, opening up with plenty of dense tannins, very powerful, with pressure and a full bite on the finish, designed for a long life. SUPERIORE.DE
"Medium, warm red colour; red fruity, caramel, coffee-like, leafy, deep, very inviting; round, fine, then dense, warm tannin, caramel, length, pleasing." Merum
"Even the colour is surprisingly transparent and light-coloured. The entry-level Barolo has an open, attractive bouquet with freshly picked cranberries and redcurrants, persimmon, ripe cherries, playful, shimmering, linear and multi-layered. Rather cool than opulent. Very finely woven on the palate, very elegant and almost floating, a finesse piece for elegance drinkers." Weinwisser
"Clearly fleshy-animalic aroma with red berry and fine vegetal flavours, a little dried herbs, a hint of juniper and dried floral traces. Clear, taut, almost cool, tart and juicy fruit, a little cocoa, coffee and allspice, also juniper tones, present, youthful, yet very fine tannins, some bite, persistent, elegant style, very good, juicy and finely spiced finish. A beauty." Wein-Plus
"Bright, radiant ruby red colour. Delicately spicy on the nose, some cherries and raspberries, with a hint of undergrowth, medium expression overall, yet inviting. Polished on the palate, with velvety tannins, already extremely accessible, drinks excellently, salty and radiant on the final." Falstaff
"Brilliant medium ruby red colour. Balsamic nose that slowly rises from the glass. Hints of garden herbs, brooding cherry and cranberry. Still a little tight on the nose, but more approachable on the palate with ripe, supple fruit and plenty of richness without being heavy. Lots of grainy, flavoursome tannins and a fairly firmly structured, fruit-driven finish." Jancis Robinson
"Classic bright garnet red in the glass, the wine focuses on cherry stones with tar, violets, a little camphor and sweet spices. The attack is firm and crisp, with a brilliant crispness on the palate and grainy tannins that carry through to a slightly austere finish. There's a little lack of flesh - a feature of the 2018 vintage - but this is one of the best Barolo from the village this year." Decanter
"Pio Cesare is on a wave of success, producing outstanding Barolo vintage after vintage. This wine is of tremendous intensity and beauty, with fragrant layers of pressed flowers, wild berries, vanilla and spice. It boasts a dark, powerful appearance and firm tannins supported by an excellent quality of fruit." Wine Enthusiast
"The Barolo Pio is once again impressive in 2018. Deep, multi-layered and so expressive, the 2018 offers an unusual elegance right from the start. The dark, mentholated aromas and flavours are fascinating. In 2018, the Barolo Pio also offers a certain depth that is rare in wines of this level. All elements are perfectly balanced. This is a very good vintage for the Pio." Vinous
"The 2018 Barolo opens with ripe aromas of dried plums and tobacco. This vintage lacks some of the complexity of a cooler growing season, but the results are anything but monochromatic. Those tobacco flavours recede to cedar, earth, forest floor and a hint of shaved truffle." Wine Advocate
"Aromas of spicy red cherries on a loamy base, along with savoury notes of forest floor and walnut shells. Also some orange peel. Full-bodied with very fine, firm and silky tannins and lots of long, concentrated fruit and spice flavours. Good structure for 2018, best from 2024." James Suckling

Barolo “Garretti” DOCG 2019
Barolo Vigneto Garretti has an inviting floral fragrance of small white flowers, berries and spices. Fresh on the palate, medium-bodied and firm tannins, you can feel the great potential. Barolo Garretti is a wine from the slopes of the La Spinetta estate in Grinzane Cavour. These grapes were previously used in Barolo Campé. SUPERIORE.DE
"Aromas of rose petal and hibiscus flower with some blood orange and stem undertones. Medium-bodied with a solid core of fruit and chewy tannins. Medium finish. Needs time to soften and open." James Suckling
"The 2019 Barolo Vigneto Garretti is a wild, exotic wine. The aromatics alone are incredibly alluring. Kirsch, rosewater, hard candy and sweet spice all soar out of the glass. This racy, mid-weight Barolo is a real charmer. Best of all the 2019 will drink well right out of the gate." Vinous
"The La Spinetta 2019 Barolo Garretti opens to a crisp, almost tart quality with red fruit, cassis, pomegranate and a hint of red apple. Those bright primary tones cede to spice and earthy mineral or baked clay. The wine is distinguished by a pretty hint of licorice root that cuts a line throughout the entire bouquet. The 2019 vintage shows extra finesse and structure to the palate." Wine Advocate

Barolo “Le Coste di Monforte” DOCG 2019
Barolo Le Coste di Monforte from the top 2019 vintage is extremely beguiling in the glass. Rose petals, cedar wood, mint, sweet pipe tobacco and blood orange are the first flavours to open up. It is deep and complex on the palate and exceptionally beautiful and harmonious for a young Barolo. Time in the glass brings out its countless nuances. SUPERIORE.DE
"Monforte d'Alba. Brilliant medium ruby red colour with orange reflections. Concentrated, perfumed nose of red fruits, sweet cherry fruit on the palate, with a layer of sandy tannins. A beautiful wine that needs more time. It certainly has what it takes to age further." Jancis Robinson
"The 2019 Pecchenino Barolo Le Coste di Monforte displays a smoky character with campfire ash and roasted spices. At its core, the wine shows dark fruits and plums that come together to form a medium-thick texture. It has the structural dynamism of the vintage with a more open and approachable side that can be drunk over the medium term." Wine Advocate
"Tar and roses with freshly cut plums and some cherries. Medium body with racy tannins that are chewy. Juicy underneath." James Suckling
"A beam of pure cherry anchors this rich, fleshy red. Strawberry, iron, tobacco, wild thyme and rosemary flavors chime in, all supported by a line of dusty tannins." Wine Spectator

Barolo Bussia DOCG 2019
Bussia 2019 is a powerful, intense wine that shows great depth and intensity, with a powerful tannin that gives the wine its masculine, virile personality. Notes of black cherry, wood smoke, liquorice, leather, menthol, pine, scorched earth and pebbles unfold in the glass. Although it is already very expressive, it still needs some time in the bottle so that the tannins can calm down a little. Nevertheless, it is already impressive and represents the 2019 Piedmontese wine year in a great way. SUPERIORE.DE
"Quite light red; reductive, undergrowth, arouses curiosity, with aeration also raspberries, very nice; round approach, fine, then a lot, nice tannin, depth and length, very nice Barolo." (JLF) Merum
"Juicy and chewy with liquorice, sweet berries and cedar with a hint of asphalt. It is medium-bodied. Spicy on the finish." James Suckling
"When tasted about three weeks after bottling, the Pecchenino 2019 Barolo Bussia shows a beautiful ruby red colour that glows in the glass. There is a subtle note of candied cherry or fragrant rose, but once this disappears, the wine returns to characteristic Nebbiolo flavours of tar, liquorice and blood orange. Bussia offers a classic sequence of flavours, elegantly enhanced by the added intensity and concentration of the 2019 vintage." Wine Advocate

Barolo “Le Coste di Monforte” DOCG 2020
Of the three Baroli from Pecchenino, Le Coste di Monforte shows the greatest focus and sharpness. Compared to this wine, the other two wines are significantly softer in their aromatic focus. Its fruit comes from a vineyard of just under one hectare at an altitude of 450 metres. Le Coste di Monforte offers dark fruits, balsamic herbs, spices, campfire ash and ferruginous earth in beautifully balanced proportions. This wine has a long maceration period of 60 days (at 28 degrees Celsius), which is concluded with 36 months of ageing in oak barrels. This gives the wine its rich flavour profile. Juicy dark cherry, lavender, spices, menthol, red flowers, liquorice and French oak come together in this creamy, racy wine from La Spinetta. Garretti captures all the richness and pedigree of the vintage in a forward, juicy style that is sure to find many admirers. "The 2020 Barolo Vigneto Garretti is a plump, juicy Barolo that will delight La Spinetta fans. A burst of dark red/purple fruit, herbs, flowers, vanillin and sweet oak makes a strong first impression. Soft contours give it immediacy and charm. The 2020 is very nicely made." Vinous
"This wine has beautiful ripe fruit, with rich plum and peach fruit on the nose, but also hazelnut, orange and bread crust. It is full-bodied, creamy and structured with melt-in-the-mouth tannins. Delicious finish." James Suckling

Barolo “Pisapola” DOCG 2016
Pisapola from the vineyard of the same name in the municipality of Verduno offers a beautiful richness of texture and an impressive softness. This wine is open and honest, with an approachable style that highlights red cherries, undergrowth, wild berries and roses in a very harmonious way. The tannin is precisely measured, and on the finish, its harmony and balance are again inspiring. Not a powerhouse, it brings out the character and elegance of this great Nebbiolo site all the more amiably and authentically. SUPERIORE.DE
"Tasted blind. Medium ruby red with orange reflections. Compact and still reserved nose with a hint of Moroccan leather. Supple and generous palate that doesn't quite open up yet. Polished, chewy tannins that taste of liquorice. Long, but needs more time in the bottle to reveal its hidden depths." Jancis Robinson
"The 2016 Barolo Pisapola is the most airy and perfumed wine in this range. Crushed flowers, mint, cedar, sweet pipe tobacco and red berry fruit grace this finely meshed, medium-bodied Barolo. The 2016 is understated, stylish and very pretty." Vinous
"Enticing aromas of macerated cherry, licorice, leather and spice greet the senses, with sweet fruit, licorice, tobacco and spice flavors. Balanced and open, this is will be approachable soon, yet also has the structure to age." Wine Spectator
"The Ascheri 2016 Barolo Pisapola is the most immediate and approachable wine from Matteo Ascheri's series of single-vineyard wines, which makes perfect sense given the geologically younger Tortonian marl and Messinian limestone of the site. The Pisapola site is in Verduno and the wine shows a loose, thin texture characteristic of this subzone. The bouquet is subtle and elegant, although the overall intensity of the wine is lower compared to some of the better-known comuni or villages in the Barolo appellation. It offers a mild structure and a silky finish." Wine Advocate
"Aromas of roses, wild berries, scrub and new leather characterise the elegant nose. The savoury palate mirrors the nose, with ripe Marasca cherry, liquorice, menthol and a mineral note reminiscent of rusty nails. Taut, fine-grained tannins and fresh acidity give support, while a hint of game signals the finish." Wine Enthusiast

Barolo “Via Nuova” DOCG 2018 (BIO)
The cru sites Liste, Terlo, Baudana, Gabutti, Ravera di Monforte and Mosconi are the origins of the grapes for the terrificVia Nuova. It is a monumental, exciting wine that combines the best that the vintage had to offer. Explosive in the glass, with breathtaking aromatic depth, it is stunningly beautiful from the first sip. Dark macerated cherry, lavender, spice, menthol and rose petals are enhanced by the underlying acidity and tannin that give the wine its energy and drive. Via Nuova is a wine of exceptional harmony, purity and finesse with an everlasting finish. SUPERIORE.DE
"Shiny, lightening garnet red, light rim. Exceedingly fragrant nose of fresh roses, lots of raspberry and strawberry, a little candyfloss. Polished, finely meshed tannin, red berry fruit, tobacco on the final." Falstaff
"Fascinating aromatic complexity that keeps your nose hovering over the glass. Raspberries with ginger biscuits, flowers and a twist of basil. There’s a deeper layer of crushed goji berries and talc-like minerals, too. Full, intense, silky and dainty with well-integrated tannins that even add a chocolatey touch. So tempting to drink now, but better from 2024." James Suckling
"The 2018 Barolo Via Nuova is marked by palpable brightness and tension that lend energy. Like all of these wines, the 2018 is restrained in feel, but all the elements are so well balanced. Freshly cut flowers, mint, crushed rocks, chalk and white pepper give the Via Nuova notable energy. Intense veins of supporting tannin and minerality provide the backbone." Vinous
"This is an organic blend of fruit from six MGA sites: Terlo and Liste (in Barolo), Ravera di Monforte and Mosconi (in Monforte d’Alba) and Gabutti and Baudana (in Serralunga d’Alba). The 2018 Barolo Via Nuova is fermented in steel and aged in oak according to time-tested local tradition. This mid-weight blended Barolo has a more prominent herbal or balsam signature at the back of red and purple fruits, licorice and pressed violet." Wine Advocate

Barolo “Cerretta” DOCG 2018
Cerretto is a fruit-driven wine of virile, explosive power that shows, among other things, how different the wines of Serralunga can be. Black cherry, plum, sage, menthol and liquorice hit the palate in a firm, tannic Barolo that will require some patience but already presents itself with remarkable freshness, purity and nuance. Cerretta is the embodiment of richness and structure of Serralunga. SUPERIORE.DE
"Just mid ruby with the beginning of orange tinges. Still quite tight and a little closed on the nose with an undertow of soft, perfumed red fruit. Youthful, elegant and juicy red fruit with a firm layer of chewy, lip-smacking tannins that add fireworks to the long finish. Super-elegant and at the same time very structured." Jancis Robinson
"Bright red fruit and a nut-cream note on the nose. Medium-bodied with very fine, firm tannins and a long, intense finish. Solid and focused." James Suckling
"The 2018 Barolo Cerretta is a potent, searing wine, its mid-weight structure notwithstanding. Scorching tannins wrap around a core of dark red/black fruit, gravel, smoke, crushed rocks, menthol, licorice and game. The 2018 is going to need a number of years to come around and for those formidable tannins to soften." Vinous
"The 2018 Barolo Cerretta offers good focus with a sharp and linear style that gives way to forest berry, wild rose, rusty nail and crushed stone. The wine is extremely direct, and that's what sets it apart. In that sense, this wine is faithful to the characteristics of Serralunga d'Alba. The soils of Cerretta see a layer of white marl on the surface and red clay further down; that's where those rusty sensations must come from." Wine Advocate

Barolo “Baudana” DOCG 2018
Barolo Baudana 2018 storms the glass with plenty of energy and intensity. Black cherry fruit, smoke, wild herbs, liquorice and tar form a compelling backdrop of aromas, flavours and textures as this dazzling, powerhouse Barolo opens in the glass. The intense final is accompanied by delicate rose petals, lavender and a subtle mineral-salty vein. Its stable tannin framework awaits a few more years of bottle ageing, as is typically the case with a classic Serralunga Barolo. SUPERIORE.DE
"Beautifully open-knit, minerally red-fruit nose. Notes of strawberries and raspberries. Succulent fruit palate with long chewy tannins. Closes up on the finish. Elegant constitution. Long and youthful. Promising." Jancis Robinson
"Ripe, musty fruit on the nose and palate. Medium-bodied with fine, firm tannins and good drive on the finish." James Suckling
"The Luigi Baudana 2018 Barolo Baudana is a full and generous wine, somewhat surprisingly so considering the understated personality of this vintage. That volume makes this bottle stand out in a crowd of 2018 releases. Dark cherry, plum, spice, rust and crushed flowers make for a soft and readily accessible wine." Wine Advocate
"The 2018 Barolo Baudana offers lovely creaminess and depth in the mid-weight style of the year. Sweet red cherry, blood orange, plum, pomegranate and sweet floral notes all meld together in this racy, inviting Barolo. There's lovely depth and texture throughout. The Baudana is the most forward and immediate of the Baudana Barolos." Vinous
"Rich, exuding cherry, raspberry, plum and floral notes, with iron, tobacco and tar accents lending complexity. Shows terrific balance and depth, with a tightly wound structure that bodes well for future development." Wine Spectator
"Managed since 2009 by the Vajra family, Luigi Baudana's Baudana is fermented in oak then aged in large casks for 32 months. Open-knit with a stunning intensity of pot pourri, wild strawberry, camphor in depth and sweet violet, its graceful style continues on the palate with refined silky tannins - firm and slightly dusty - refreshing acidity and a slightly warming finish. The finish is austere yet full of liquorice elegance, and the woven integration it exhibits will keep this strong for decades. A major success for a vintage of often leaner wines." Decanter

Barolo Mosconi DOCG 2018 (BIO)
The vivacious Chiara Boschis has been a rather modernist Barolo winemaker for over 25 years, although she now uses much less new oak than in the past. She is best known for her Cannubi, but her Mosconi, from 1 ha of this top vineyard in Monforte d'Alba, can be just as good in some vintages.
Medium to deep crimson. Very nice nose of earthy, complex cherry and blackberry fruit with subtle oak notes and a hint of pine. On the palate juicy and smooth red fruit, very concentrated. Delicious, crisp tannins. It is a plump, full-bodied and very concentrated wine that is assertive and youthful when young - but in balance. It is darker and fruitier than most classic Barolos, yet always structured, complex, taut and long. SUPERIORE.DE
"Sparkling, dark garnet with light rim. Very fragrant nose of wild raspberry, dark cherry, plum, clove and some cinnamon. Full and substantial on the palate, opens up with lots of hearty, grippy tannin, nice melting core, of raspberry and tobacco, long finish." Falstaff
"Plenty of tense, wild-strawberry character to this with bright minerals, too. Medium-bodied with a punchy core of bright fruit, tight tannins and a tense, crystalline finish. Needs time to even out. Best from 2024." James Suckling
"The 2018 Barolo Mosconi shows all the gravitas and natural darkness of this site, but in miniature. Black cherry, plum, gravel, smoke, crushed rocks and incense fill out the layers. There is plenty of Mosconi muscle, even if the volume of the best years isn't there." Vinous
"This red puts it all together—macerated cherry and plum fruit, a silky texture, vibrant structure and elegance—without sacrificing power or harmony. Complex and long, with a haunting finish that provides rose, menthol, licorice and iron accents." Wine Spectator
"Chiara Boschis has recently purchased more vineyards in the Mosconi cru located at a cool 370 meters in elevation in Monforte d'Alba. This is terrific news for those who love the focus and precision that Chiara Boschis is known for. The Mosconi carries generous fruit weight and volume over a streamlined mouthfeel and tight tannins. The wine ends with fresh notes of blackberry, plum and wild rose." Wine Advocate
"The wine is quite a dense ruby colour in the glass, with restrained forest floor scents and whiffs of rosemary, chocolate and wild red fruits. Filigreed and complex, the palate has a delicate attack, firm tannins and good density, with flavours of tar and plenty of violet and pomegranate. Biting and still austere but softened by the French barriques - where the wine ages for two years." Decanter

Barolo DOCG 2019 (BIO)
With Bricco Rocche, Bussia, Brunate and Prapò, Ceretto vinifies four masterful single-vineyard Baroli. If you can't decide between these wines, you will find an excellent alternative in the winery's basic Barolo.
Elegant, bright ruby red colour. Dark intensity with great aromatic richness, including ripe cherry and raspberry, paired with noble spice and gentle use of wood. Fruity and floral notes are followed by traces of iron and a delicate hint of liquorice. The flavours are delicate and fragile, and the wine skilfully hides its power in the soft folds of its slender, medium-weight mouthfeel. Polished and clear on the palate, spreading out with delicately creamy tannins, salty undertone, great length. SUPERIORE.DE
"Sparkling ruby red with garnet-coloured edges. Seductive, complex nose, raspberries and sour cherries, followed by pepper, nutmeg and some forest floor. Elegant and deep on the palate, refreshing acidity, ripe tannins, lingering, spicy final." Falstaff
"Already white truffle, plum and meat on the nose. Medium to full-bodied with firm and chewy tannins that are polished and racy. Needs time to open up. Better after 2026." James Suckling
"The organic Ceretto 2019 Barolo has a note of juicy cherry and plum that pops up immediately and ties into a floral note, almost musky, like a tuberose or something comparatively fragrant. The fruit leads, but the wine does offer sensual aromas to follow with soft baking spice, mineral and very fine-grained tannins. A blend of fruit comes from Barolo, Castiglione Falletto, La Morra and Serralunga d'Alba. The style is modern classic. This is a very generous wine." Wine Advocate
"A classic! This Barolo opens with aromas of wild cherries, macerated raspberries, drying rose, liquorice, clove and subtle earthy notes. On the palate, it shows the regal nature of Nebbiolo with its ripe red fruits balanced by spicy herbs, tobacco and fine-grained tannins." Wine Enthusiast

Barolo DOCG 2019
"Medium red; inviting, undergrowth, not intense; good fullness and sweetness, also depth, long, round tannin." Merum
"Fruity and floral on the nose; harmonious, still youthful texture, the tannins robust, the evolution precise, the finish polished and fruity. Convinces with its noble construction." Vinum
"Bright ruby colour with garnet and a delicately brightening rim. Fine stony tones on the nose, delicate wild berries, blood oranges, distantly reminiscent of cold earth. Polished on the palate, on fine notes of black tea, slightly balsamic, tense, deep and salty, comes in many layers." Falstaff
"Beautiful flavours of flowers, fresh strawberries and raspberries are followed by a medium to full palate with fine tannins that extend over the entire length of the wine. Undertones of citrus and spice. The finish is long and intense. Tannic finish." James Suckling
"The historic house of Pio Cesare produces some of its best wines today. This classic highlights the purity of Nebbiolo with notes of tart red fruits combined with sweet and savoury spices, followed by subtle hints of flowers and earth. Sour cherry flavours dominate the palate with soft tannins, savoury herbs and a lively finish." Wine Enthusiast
"Pio Cesare has done a great job with his classic Barolo 2019 (produced since 1881). At the bottom of the front label it says "Barolo Pio" in memory of the legendary Pio Boffa. He was a wine entrepreneur who was immediately respected and loved by all who knew him. The wine focuses strictly on the bright Nebbiolo fruit with aromas of redcurrant and aniseed. The finish is soft with tannins that dissolve elegantly on the palate." Wine Advocate

Barolo Coste di Rose DOCG 2020 (BIO)
The latest addition to Vajra's Barolo line-up comes from a 1.5-hectare plot in Coste di Rose, a small MGA (Menzioni Geografiche Aggiuntive) in the Barolo region. This is a steep slope at 310 metres above sea level with a high proportion of sandy soils with good drainage, whose vines and soils are cultivated close to nature. This very accessible Barolo is straightforward, forward and impresses even at a young age with its refreshing candour. A very precise bouquet of cherry, plum, liquorice, spices and menthol, followed by a broad and multi-layered fruity palate with plenty of juice and power, supportive tannins and a full, long, mineral and minty finish. SUPERIORE.DE
"Compared to Bricco delle Viole, Coste di Rose is characterised by sandstone soils at lower altitudes of 340 to 350 metres above sea level. Elegant bouquet with fine red fruit and blue berries, plus smoky and floral tones reminiscent of violets and rose petals. In the mouth, a finely spun, fragrant Barolo with an elegant acidic nerve and juicy fruit sweetness in the finish." Weinwisser
"Sparkling ruby colour with a slight garnet sheen. Clear and memorable, opens with notes of dried roses, then some cloves, plus plenty of plums. Juicy on the palate, shows very good tension, savoury, present, fine-meshed tannins at the core, builds up over a long time." Falstaff
"Truly floral aroma. Very fruity, expressive and flattering. Just a little dry on the finish. Lots of energy." Jancis Robinson
"The 2020 Barolo Coste di Rose is an attractive, medium-bodied wine. Black cherry, lavender, spice, menthol and liquorice are beautifully interwoven. The Coste di Rose is not the most complex Barolo in the range, but it offers plenty of pure appeal in a sensual, open style that can be enjoyed with minimal cellaring time." Vinous
"White pepper, dried roses, berries and minerals on the nose. Very elegant and chalky on the palate with a medium to full body and a linear finish. Pure and powerful." James Suckling
"Coste di Rose is the lowest of the Vajra vineyards and the most recent, 2015, was the first vintage. It is relatively unknown, although it is quite central between Canubi and Brunate. Red-fruited and forward, perhaps with a little less structure, red and blue berries, a hint of lavender and clove and raspberry leaves offer a bright, herbaceous character that lifts the finish." Decanter
"A Barolo of remarkable elegance and complexity. Sublime aromas of mixed wild berries, candied rose petals, cinnamon and whole cloves are accompanied by warm, earthy notes. Tart cherries and cranberries dominate the palate, with woody undertones and chewy tannins that add power without overpowering. Savoury and medicinal herbs linger on the finish, making this wine a captivating expression of this famous cru." Wine Enthusiast
"A beam of fresh cherries and strawberries permeate this graceful red wine, which is carried by a lively structure. Flashes of sun-kissed hay, iron and mint add depth as this wine builds to a lingering finish. Very harmonious, with a chalky sensation in the long, complex aftertaste." Wine Spectator

Barolo di Serralunga d’Alba DOCG 2019
Enrico Serafino's classic opens in a medium-dark colour with fragrant aromas of dark fruits, plums, spices, iron ore and freshly ploughed earth. Medium-bodied on the palate, rather slender, which is not a flaw, but emphasises the elegance and class of the Nebbiolo grape very nicely. The tannins are present but pleasantly tame, with peppery nuances on the finish, a salty mineral aftertaste and delicate nougat on the final. SUPERIORE.DE
"Bright ruby red with a slightly lighter rim. Fruity nose of cherries, plums and forest fruits, with a light cedar wood note and a hint of liquorice in the background. Fresh, juicy and with gripping tannins on the palate, with a fruity, slightly drying finish." Falstaff
"The Comune del Serralunga d'Alba Barolo shows why this wine was created for the village. This wine shows classic Serralunga vitality, power and balance with aromas of crushed black cherries, wild roses, dried herbs and crushed stone on the nose. The dense palate offers a core of ripe red fruit with undergrowth, tea, liquorice root and leather, finishing with lively acidity and firm tannins." Wine Enthusiast
"Fresh and lively Barolo with notes of red berries, tangerine peel, dried flowers and bark. Medium to full-bodied. Crisp and structured with firm, dusty tannins. Juicy on the palate with red fruits and a spicy, savoury finish. Attractive now, but even better from 2025." James Suckling

"Ingratiating aromas of forest fruits, flowers and mushrooms; supple texture, the acidity well integrated, tightly woven tannin, ends on flavours of ripe stone fruit and spices." Vinum
"Dense, fruity bouquet with rich red fruit and ripe cherries. An intense, juicy-melting drink, ripe cherries, modern Barolo, juicy finish, polished tannins, lingers with ripe fruit." Weinwisser
"Medium transparent garnet red colour with a slightly brightening rim. Fine and elegant aromas of wild berries, sour cherries, some blood orange and light herbal flavours on the nose. Gripping on the palate with flavours of black tea, very present tannins and a multi-layered final." Falstaff
"Sourced from vineyards spreads across the region, this 2020 offers a gentle aroma of cherry and forest berries, sous bois and a touch of menthol. There's more verticality and intensity here compared to the Barbaresco, with fine, round tannins, all wrapped up in some energetic acidity. Dark cherry, mint and hints of liquorice and herbs define this classy effort." Decanter
"A blend of cherry, strawberry, rose, tar and underbrush aromas and flavours highlight this elegant, solid red wine. Smooth in texture until dusty tannins emerge on the finish. Overall very balanced, with a very long finish." Wine Spectator
"Very primary fruit with beautiful flavours of peaches, strawberries, berries and flowers. It is medium to full-bodied, with the character of bitter citrus, cedar, chocolate and coffee beans. Firm on the finish. It needs two or three years to open up and will mature for a very long time." James Suckling
