Today we present you a wine that could hardly boast a more exclusive storage history. At a depth of 4,000 metres, in the Poschhausstollen in the Ridnaun Valley, the exclusive Gewürztraminer "Epokale" from the Tramin Winery matured and can already be described as an absolute collector's item. At 90 percent humidity and a constant 11 degrees Celsius, the "Epokale" Gewürztraminer Spätlese Alto Adige DOC 2015 is stored here in complete darkness for around six years.
The sales launch of this legend is already impatiently awaited by collectors and unfortunately we already know that we will hardly be able to meet the high demand despite strict limitation (1 bottle/customer).
This desirability is hardly surprising, after all, this noble drop is Italy's highest-rated white wine. The 2009 vintage received 100 Parker points and the current 2015 vintage also shines with 98 Decanter. This Gewürztraminer impressively shows what the grape variety is capable of producing and, with only 2,500 bottles, it is a distinct rarity.
With the sensational Epokale 2015, cellar master Willi Stürz has, as it were, prepared himself a belated present. Last year he celebrated the 30th anniversary of his work for the South Tyrolean cooperative. It is thanks to his high standards that the Tramin Winery has long been one of the most respected producers in the country.
In his statement on Epokale 2015, he manifests his vision once again. "Our goal is to improve ceaselessly in order to reach the highest level in our handling of this grape variety, which continues to challenge and surprise us." WILLI STÜRZ
