Mattia Vezzola's grandfather founded the Costaripa winery in 1936 on the western shore in the town of Moniga del Garda in the heart of the Valtènesi area, marking the beginning of an impressive success story.
Mattia demonstrated his expertise as head Oenologist at the famous Franciacorta winery Bellavista for forty years. And as early as 1973, he pressed the first bottle-fermented sparkling wine from Lake Garda. Today, half of the Costaripa wine cellar is dedicated to the Metodo Classico, while the other half is focussed on the production of traditional Valtènesi wines.
In addition to the indispensable Lugana, the winery's portfolio also includes single-varietal red wines made from Groppello and Marzemino grapes - as well as the rosé Rosa Mara, which has won our hearts in no time at all. It is undoubtedly one of Mattia Vezzola's favourite wines, and he has devoted himself to reinterpreting a historical vinification method that has been practised in this region since the 18th century. This Chiaretto is produced using the traditional "a lacrima" method, in which the grapes are pressed gently and carefully so that they begin to "cry". To achieve the perfect colour, the tone of the rosato is constantly monitored during production. Speaking of perfect: with this wine, Mattia proves how masterfully he has mastered this process and brought it to absolute perfection.
For Mattia Vezzola, it has always been about making wine production as natural as possible, which is why the grapes on his farm are cultivated according to a biodynamic approach. He is one of the true pioneers of Italian quality viticulture and has already been honoured five times as Italy's best Oenologist by various wine guides and associations.
