For the 21st time, wines from all over the world were judged by leading wine experts at the Decanter World Wine Awards (DWWA). This year, the number of blind-tasted wines is once again impressive: a total of 18,143 wines from 57 countries were tasted, including 2,557 wines from Italy alone. With this result, the Decanter World Wine Award has once again set a record for the highest number of wines submitted. A total of 243 wine experts, including 20 Master Sommeliers and 61 Masters of Wine from 33 countries, took up this superlative challenge.
The tasters know the region, the style and the price range, but not the winemaker. After the individual tasting, the experts and their colleagues agree on the points and medals for each wine. The medal categories correspond to the 100-point rating system used by Decanter and many of the world's best wine critics.
