The fruit for this exceptional Brunello, produced only in the very best years, comes from a five-hectare vineyard in the northern part of the appellation and there are then just 1,500 bottles of it. "This gorgeous 2018 Giusto di Notri (tasted in a preview capacity before its October 2020 release date) was born beautiful, or so I am told. The wine saw little racking and a hands-off approach, because it came seamlessly together on its own in the winery. Merlot was harvested first in mid-September, and the Cabernets came off the vines in October, without a cloud in the sky. The wine shows the heft and determination you should expect, although this vintage reveals a magically delicate and elegant side with aromas of blue flowers, spice and wild plums. Again, I am reminded of purely Tuscan aromas with wild sage, grilled rosemary and macchia mediterranea shrubs that grow wild in these parts. The already very well-balanced and classic 2018 vintage can gain again with Fuligni, because no Riserva was produced. Ruby red with orange reflections. On the nose, after some aeration, ripe morello cherries, violets, roses and lots of Mediterranean scrub. Powerful on the palate, the silky tannins give it elegance and the necessary balance, its complexity comes to the fore with every sip. This very authentic and strongly focused Brunello can be counted among the best of the vintage, its wonderfully balanced proportions and its juiciness will give it further impetus in the coming years. A cloud of white smoke gives way to a sweet-smelling blend of dried roses, sugared cherries and a hint of exotic spices. The 2018 is opulent but also has the acidity to keep it balanced, as it finishes long with classically refined tannins but leaves the palate perfectly poised for another sip. Pagus Cerbaia is the name of a first-class small plot of land with sedimentary soils. This is where the small quantities of Syrah and Cabernet Sauvignon come from, 50% of which is fermented in amphorae and 50% in oak barrels after the harvest. The "Selection Rosato", which is only bottled in a few hundred bottles, has an intense floral aroma and captivates the palate in a lively and cheerful way with a lingering spicy note and a wonderfully complex finish. Here it is, the impressive first Gran Selezione from Riecine, showing more grace than muscle and delivering a Riecine-typical and very precise Burgundian interpretation of the Sangiovese grape.

The grapes come from the single vineyard of the same name in a 2.25 hectare Chianti Classico vineyard planted in 1971 with a density of 3,400 vines per hectare and situated on old terraces facing south. Riecine has leased these plots since the 1980s, and now the winery has managed to purchase this site, which is one of the best terroirs in the Chianti Classico area. So it is only logical that the 50th anniversary of the winery and the outstanding 2019 vintage should mark the debut of the new top wine. The bottles are numbered, just 3,233 0.Liters and 50 magnum bottles were bottled.

Spicy bouquet, delicate accents of vanilla and toasted bread that combine with notes of cherry, strawberry and violet. Rich in the mouth, with a solid structure and a long, polished final characterised by fruit, Mediterranean grass and a mineral note. Polissena shows the typical signature of Il Borro: the wines are made as typical of the grape variety as possible and therefore come into the glass as authentically and transparently as possible - particularly recognisable here with Sangiovese. The nose has a fine cherry flavour with hints of wild berries, forest floor, herbs and a little plum. On the palate, the typical acidity is paired with delicate fruit, a firm centre and a taut final. The 12-month maturation in used and almost neutral barriques is very conducive to the freshness and straightforwardness of the Polissena.
