Numerous distilleries from Italy can refer to a company history that began as early as the 19th century. So is Lorenzo Inga. The roots of the famous family distillery founded by Gaetano Inga from the wine stronghold of Piedmont, which originally bore the name Gambarotti, date back to 1832. The cradle of the company, which is now in its fifth generation, was in Noto, Sicily. At that time, the classic Campari was not yet invented and cities such as Turin and Milan gradually moved into the limelight as locations for major spirits producers. Today Lorenzo Inga jr. can benefit from the great experience and competence of many ancestors. Top winegrowers from Northern Italy are always reliable suppliers for the pure grappa made from Moscato, Dolcetto, Barbera and Nebbiolo. In addition to a few other distilleries, the distillery from Piedmont also deserves the credit for having developed the grape marc spirit from cheap schnapps into a salonable noble brandy.
Although the distillery changed hands in the mid-1990s, Lorenzo Inga and the San Salvatore Monferrato-based premium distillery San Tommaso now work closely together. In the newly created D.I.S. Lorenzo Inga Selection, fine grape marc brandies from the 'My Grappa' line are produced there. The products are perceived by tasters as purer and brighter than traditional Piedmontese spirits. The range, which is firmly anchored in the premium segment, also shines with its rich nuances and harmonious character. The selection is also proof that it is worthwhile to devote yourself to the production of grappa with great attention to detail. Lorenzo Inga jr. is personally responsible for blending the distillates, which have been refined in wooden barrels for a long time after fermentation.
Although it uses the classic copper flask for its noble grape marc, it has a very modern distillation plant for continuous distillation. Of great importance for the exceptional quality of the distillates is the completely new method of preserving the fresh grape residues coming from the winemakers' presses. Since it is filled into fifty metres long hoses made of food-grade plastic which form a closed vacuum with the aid of special equipment, the pomace can retain its original freshness and purity until it is distilled. No air enters the marc mass, so that the danger of oxidation is averted. This means that Lorenzo Inga pomace is clearly of superior quality to press residues that are stored openly in depots.
