Meletti, based in Ascoli Piceno, is one of the distilleries that enjoy cult status in Italy. As early as the late 19th century, the Italian king Umberto I. appointed the company from the Marche region, known above all for its excellent liqueurs, as the official supplier of the royal family. The world-famous distillery was founded by Silvio Meletti, who grew up in poor circumstances and who at that time also owns the famous distillery, which is still located in Piazza del Popolo today. "Caffè Meletti" heard. After reading Italian and French specialist literature on distillation techniques, the founder was able to develop his own distillation technique. He then quickly succeeded in successfully marketing his spirits beyond his home town, expanding sales markets, increasing operational productivity and increasing the number of employees. Today the distillery is already in family ownership in the fifth generation.
The company's flagship product is Anisetta Meletti, a regional speciality made exclusively from the best green aniseed from the Ascoli Piceno area. The cone plant Pimpinella anisum, from which the clear, refreshing, sweet and mild liqueur takes its name and which gives it its characteristic aroma, is picked in the loamy hills at the foot of Monte dell'Ascensione. Silvio Meletti's classic Anisetta was distilled for the first time in 1870, following a modified recipe by his mother. Even today, the alcoholic beverage is still produced in the proven family tradition using the same methods as almost 150 years ago. A special feature: In Signore Meletti's home region, mocha beans are still added to the liqueur to be enjoyed as a dessert. Numerous awards at trade fairs and exhibitions throughout Europe bear witness to the high reputation of the culinary delights of the brands.
The Anisetta Meletti - once created by Silvio Meletti in response to the very expensive foreign anise liqueurs - has prevailed far beyond the Marche region against competing products such as pastis or ouzo. The high level of acceptance is certainly also due to the fact that the company founder himself developed the water bath distillation device for aniseed schnapps. A very slow evaporation (evaporation) supports the development of the strong aroma. In addition to its classic Anisetta, Meletti spirits lovers will also be impressed with a dry version of this speciality, for example, with the Sambuca digestif, very popular in Italy, the herb bitters Amaro and Limoncello, a refreshing lemon liqueur distilled according to a very old family recipe.
