Alessandro Masnaghetti is a very old stone of the Italian wine industry. The journalist has worked for renowned publications such as Guido Vini d'Italia L'Espresso and the renowned wine guide by Luigi Veronelli. He has also published numerous articles and tasting reports, e.g. in the New York Times and the Revue du Vin de France.
Alessandro, in close cooperation with the cadastral offices and consortiums of the most famous wine-growing regions, has been publishing for several years the cartographic work of the most important wine regions in Italy, which is probably unique to this day and which brings new insights to even the most widely travelled, well-read and wine-loving connoisseur of Italy. A must for all lovers of Italian wines, who want to experience the true diversity and strength of the Italian wine world, right down to the smallest single vineyard of the respective appellation, away from the usual standard mush. “Visadi” Dolcetto Langhe DOC 2022
The grapes come from the Ginestra, Mosconi and San Pietro cru sites, with around 10 rows planted outside the appellation boundaries (this is why the wine is a Langhe Dolcetto and not a Dolcetto d'Alba). Beautiful, detailed aroma of rose gardens and lavender fields. The finish is slender, soft and silky with aromatic richness and plenty of fruit. A wonderfully complex Dolcetto in the impeccable style of the Clerico house. SUPERIORE.DE
"This is a wine that is fun to drink and reveals sweet, explosive fruit. It is charming through and through. The Domenico Clerico 2022 Langhe Dolcetto Visadì shows fresh sour cherry and summery blueberry. The fruit is sweet and fresh, and there are also subtle floral aromas." Wine Advocate

Dolcetto d’Alba DOC 2023
"Our Dolcetto has a typically Piedmontese DNA. The careful vinification aims to make it softer and rounder to emphasise its drinkability. Thanks to its particular organoleptic characteristics, it not only accompanies Langhe dishes with elegance and harmony." Franco Massolino
Bright ruby red with violet reflections. Open and generous wine with lots of dark fruit, cherry and sweet blackberry. On the palate of medium weight, but thanks to the natural richness of the Dolcetto grape, full-bodied and with a vinous character. The typical, delicate almond note in the finish. SUPERIORE.DE

The intense red-violet Dolcetto from the Augenta vineyard has an open, fruity aroma, very complex and deep on the palate, characterised by tannins, acidity and alcohol in wonderful balance and a delicately bitter aftertaste typical of Dolcetto. SUPERIORE.DE
"The 2022 Dolcetto d'Alba Augenta is another outstanding wine in this series from Giorgio Pelissero. Rich, lush and enveloping, the 2022 offers generous dark red fruit, spice, leather and liquorice, all enhanced by a short period of ageing in wood. The 2022 has enough complexity and structure to harmonise with almost anything at dinner. I loved it." Vinous
"Floral aromas, chalky, with hints of sweet spice and bramble fruit. Shows cherry and red berries, high acidity, high alcohol, and good concentration. Expressive with good intensity and ripeness and a good finish." Decanter

The name Dolcetto could be freely translated as "Sweet little one". Although the grapes, like the berries, are actually quite big and the sugar content is not really higher than with other red wine grapes in Piedmont. Since Piedmont still speaks relatively old dialects, which differ considerably from region to region, Dolcetto also has a lot of synonyms in its linguistic usage. From Dozzeti, Dolchetto or Dolcino, over unpronounceable versions up to origin designations like Uva del Monferrato or Uva di Ovada. In some local wine bars it is advisable to ask twice if you want to know what you have in your glass.
Dolcetto seems to be a quite old regional and/or autochthonous grape variety. The first mention of Dolcetto dates back to 1300 A.D. All suspected relatives with other grape varieties could not be proven in DNA analyses, not even with the white grape variety Dolcetto Bianco.
Dolcetto used to be widespread, but in the last few decades it has been replaced by Barbera and Nebbiolo, although with careful care and skilful ageing it is possible to produce very fine, fruity red wines. Dolcetto is much earlier accessible, more velvety and less tannic and acidic than its more famous neighbours in the vineyard. The aromatic spectrum includes black berries, sour cherries, plums and often a hint of liquorice or bitter almond. Piedmontese people appreciate Dolcetto as a rather universal accompaniment to regional cuisine.
Under other names Dolcetto can also be found here and there in other regions of Italy, as Ormaesco in Liguria or as Nibiò in Umbria. There are also tiny quantities overseas, brought by emigrants in earlier times. The Dolcetto currently thrives on about 6,500 hectares, 20 years ago it was still over 7,000. SUPERIORE.DE
