Don't expect the typical Syrah, because this wine will surprise you with its liveliness and freshness, although it has the spiciness and drinkability typical of Syrah. The name (Love and Madness) expresses all the love for this grape, but also the courage to grow it in the Montalcino area. Despite its unusualness, this wine is a real crowd pleaser and one of the winery's trademarks.

Il Randagio (the stray) is wonderfully complex and nuanced. Initially quite closed, the delicately spicy nose creeps up with increasing aeration and opens further into a wonderfully complex bouquet of dark red to black berries. Rising floral, savoury and spicy accents point to a wine that says more about the style of the house than anything else. The palate is wide-ranging with delicate wild berry flavours, perfectly polished tannins and a fresh, very invigorating acid wire that uninhibitedly enhances the drinkability of this once again typically different red. "The Tenuta di Carleone 2022 Il Randagio is a blend of equal parts Merlot and Cabernet Franc and comes in a screw-top bottle with a drawing of a one-eyed bulldog on the label, which is surely the alter ego of Sean O'Callaghan. He experiments with long maceration times and alternative cement containers. There's a lot of creative spirit in a wine like this, which reveals fresh, bright berry tones. The history of the sophisticated Gewürztraminer goes back to the early Middle Ages. The autochthonous grape variety thrives best on airy slopes between 250 and 450 m on clay and sandy soils with plenty of sunlight. And then the wine can be as convincing as this one: straw yellow with pale green reflections, with a distinctive bouquet of roses, some clove and vanilla and an independent character on the palate. Markus Prackwieser's Sauvignon vines grow on calcareous moraines with solid quartz porphyry at the foot of the Schlern massif, approx. 400-480 metres above sea level. Sparkling, light straw yellow colour. Very intense, appealing nose of tomato leaves, sage, a little thyme and white asparagus. Salty and freshly vibrant on the palate, densely woven, showing distinctly fragrant components, fine gooseberry, juicy and full of tension. SUPERIORE.DE

Grosso Agontano Riserva rises dark, floral and earthy from the glass, with notes of undergrowth and tobacco that fade into blackberry and crushed stone. Its velvety texture leads to a sophisticated presentation of red and black fruits, underpinned by cool herbal notes, while the fine tannins slowly saturate towards the end. The finish is long, youthfully structured and with a pleasant inner sweetness, while nuances of tangerine and sour cherry linger under a hint of violet blossom.

Agontano is a 100% Montepulciano that is refined in barriques in the second passage. It is a very attractive interpretation of the grape variety and still needs some time in the cellar to show its best side. SUPERIORE.DE

Terlaner Cuvée (formerly Terlaner Classico) is the wine that best embodies the identity and personality of this iconic agricultural co-operative in South Tyrol. Since its founding in 1893, it has been closely linked to the history of the winery like no other wine. Since the 2013 vintage, the grapes have been sourced from selected vineyards in the Vorberg, Kreuth and Winkl vineyards. Aromas of tropical and passion fruit, peach, pear and sweet almonds are surrounded by a salty, mineral vein and give this wonderfully juicy white wine finesse and the pure character typical of Terlan. Sansonina (Lugana and Merlot) is a strictly limited and very ambitious project by the Zenato family, in which only the best grapes from their own vineyards are used. Only a small number of these are sold in numbered bottles each year.

This spontaneously fermented Lugana from the Sansonina winery is a masterpiece with a broad aroma of exotic fruits. When Nino Franco discovered the Col del Vent vineyard in 2014, it was like a step back in time for him. He realised that the tiny plot above Valdobbiadene was home to 100-year-old vines of Glera biotypes that had long since been replaced by modern clonal selections in the region and were in an excellent state of health. The following year, with the help of Marco Simonit, a master of pruning (consultant to Yquem, Latour and Roederer), he produced the first wine from this vineyard. He called it Nodi (knot) in reference to the gnarled trunks of the old vines.

The noble Nodi impresses with its elegance and finesse and is always sold a good two years later. Delicate aromas of wisteria, flint and roses, with fruity notes of pear, gooseberry and lime. A fine, subtle perlage on the palate, with fresh notes of lime, peach and white fruit in combination with well-balanced acidity for a zesty and crisp flavour experience.
