With the Pinot Nero Riserva Vigna Das Langefeld, the Pfitscher family has undoubtedly created an elegant top wine that perfectly reflects the identity of the terroir.

The small vineyard Das Langefeld is one of the highest and oldest Pinot Noir vineyards in South Tyrol. It is located in the Glen vineyard above Montan at around 550 metres above sea level. Alongside Mazzon, this vineyard is certainly one of the best known and most recognised for this grape variety in Italy. Like all of the Pfitscher family's vineyards, this plot of only 4,000 square metres is cultivated exclusively organically. The vineyard faces west and is characterised by deep clay and limestone soils. The Guyot training system enables an enormous planting density of around 8,000 vines per hectare.

Today, Vigna Das Langefeld is a family project that Klaus Pfitscher started back in 1984 at the age of 24. Even then, he recognised the potential of the site and decided to plant Pinot Noir clones from Burgundy. Looking back, he states: "When I planted this vineyard in 1984, I was convinced that something great would come out of it. This wine is the fulfilment of a dream". His son Hannes, a trained Oenologist and cellar master at Pfitscher, is now passionate about the winery's wines together with his father. He adds: "We are all constantly striving for perfection. The age of the vines, the microclimate of Glen and the organic cultivation form the basis for a wine with great depth as well as excellent elegance and finesse, of which we are very proud".

The wine is the result of a careful selection in which healthy, fully ripe grapes from a small harvest are picked by hand. This is followed by a two-day cold maceration of the mostly undestemmed grapes and a spontaneous fermentation of around 14 days. After a further 12 months of maturation in barriques, the wine rests and matures for six months in a 10 hl wooden barrel and then 30 months in the bottle. The wine is bottled unfined and unfiltered. Only 1,296 numbered bottles of Pfitscher's top wine are produced and we are delighted to be able to offer a few examples of this exclusive wine every year. SUPERIORE.DE

Emanuele Pangrazi's ambitious project to produce an extremely high-quality white wine was developed in 2013 with the Lazio region and its scientific group "Arsial". Together, they experimented for the first time in the region with two white Rhone grapes, Roussanne and Marsanne, which develop particularly well in the dry and windy climate.

The facts: Alberello harvesting, no pesticide use, extremely low yields, separate vinification of the grape varieties and subsequent 16-month ageing in new oak barrels by François Frères, who is indisputably one of the best coopers in Burgundy. The result is 500 bottles per vintage, which, if you can get them at all, you should not miss.

Brilliant golden yellow. On the nose, sweet spices, honey, citrus peel and balsamic notes. Full and firm on the palate, rich and enveloping, with a fresh and delicately salty note. Energetic, long and very exceptional! SUPERIORE.DE

Emanuele Pangrazi is probably the most ambitious winemaker in Lazio at the moment. With his extreme planting density and radical yield restriction, he is following a path that is pioneering for Lazio. After thoroughly analysing his terroir and the climatic conditions, it was clear to him in 2006 that he would plant primarily French grape varieties based on the principle of the great wines of the Rhone. In addition to his famous Cuvée Habemus (Etichetta Bianca) and the San Giovenale Rosso (a blend of two vintages of Habemus), he also produces four single-varietal Habemus wines, albeit in very small quantities.

Habemus Etichetta Blu is a pure Grenache (also called Alicante or Cannonau in Italy, depending on the growing region) from a one-hectare vineyard planted in 2006 in Blera at an altitude of 380 metres on loamy, skeleton-rich soils and grown in the bush. Brilliant ruby red colour. In the attractive bouquet, typical varietal aromas of wild berries, tin cans and liquorice powder, framed by blackberry and blueberry jam, undergrowth and dried violets, cocoa beans and Lebanese cedar. On the palate, a highly detailed cornucopia of sour cherry, red berries, dried oregano, aniseed and a hint of preserved peach. The palate then presents a delicate and complex overall ensemble with hints of damp earth, wonderfully refreshing acidity and a touch of Indian spice. SUPERIORE.DE

Ceretto's Barolo Bussia comes from one of the most famous cru sites bordering the municipalities of Monforte d'Alba and Barolo, it draws its Nebbiolo fruit from a 7,000 sqm parcel in Bussia Soprana in Monforte d'Alba. Just 3,500 1/1 bottles and 200 magnums are bottled.

Sparkling, luminous garnet red. On the nose, it seduces with delicate notes of wild berries, white cherry, liquorice and truffle. On the palate, it is explosive, lively and full of energy. Its rich and lively aromas of cranberries and pomegranate are very finely elaborated, impressive its sweetness in the middle of the palate and the fine creaminess and its finely meshed tannin, which is characteristic of the best Bussia Barolos. Barolo Brunate comes from the heart of the appellation in La Morra and is one of the most expressive Barolos in Ceretto's single-vineyard collection. The vines are over 50 years old and the total production of the wine is therefore vanishingly small.

Shiny ruby garnet. On the nose, finely balanced aromas of dark cherry, rose blossom, mint and lavender, followed by cassis and plum. More fruit-driven on the palate than its "colleagues", it then impressively shows its origins with its depth and complexity. A red full of personality and character, which will only develop its full potential in the further course of its bottle ageing. SUPERIORE.DE

Brunello di Montalcino Petroso is only produced in the best years and in an extremely limited quantity - just 1,200 bottles of the 2019 vintage will be released onto the market. The exciting bouquet combines rich dark fruits with savoury spices, sage and violets to create a captivating spectacle. Soft and enveloping on the palate, initially quite feminine, with a mix of vibrant acids and minerals giving way to wild berries and pretty inner flowers. This cool, balanced and savoury wine already shows enormous purity and finesse when young, but with its grippy tannins it definitely needs more years to develop fully. With such a limited production, it is a shame that more people will not be able to enjoy this exceptionally beautiful Brunello. SUPERIORE.DE

The Le Ragnaie 2019 Brunello di Montalcino Petroso is less ethereal and more grounded, with an obvious delivery of fruit (and more primary intensity) framed by caramel, light tobacco leaf, redcurrant, cherry and wild plum. Until the regulations were changed in 2016, 600 metres was the upper limit for Brunello di Montalcino. The grapes for Passo del Lume Spento come from a single vineyard located on a sandstone plateau at 621 metres above sea level. It displays fresh aromas of lavender and fennel with warm, fragrant earth and a subtle smoky note. The medium-bodied, crisp and sinewy wine tastes of red berries pressed from rocky earth, accompanied by tangy acidity and remarkable freshness. The mouth-cleansing tannins are straightforward and the lively acidity drives the wine across the palate. It is lean but not bony and has enough flesh to harmonise the structure. The fruit and floral components are very pronounced, and the earthiness that we find in the other wines is not as pronounced. Instead, it is mineral and salty. Appius is the winery's flagship wine. The elegant, very aromatic cuvée from the white varieties Sauvignon, Chardonnay and Pinot Gris matures for one year in wood and three years on the fine lees in stainless steel. The Chardonnay vines for NAMA are between 30 and 40 years old. The grapes are harvested and selected by hand. After gentle whole-cluster pressing, the must is pre-clarified by natural, static sedimentation, fermented and matured in small oak barrels on the lees for 18 months. Gracis Sopra il Pozzo is a "selection from the selection" and comes from the Arcurìa vineyard. It is a Nerello cru with the clear DNA of the volcanic-stony terroir. Light ruby in colour with orange reflections, it has a nose of candied fruit, cooling firewood, some aniseed and herbs. The palate is silky without being smooth, its subtle wood and delicate acid wire harmonise perfectly with the flanking tannin until the unforgettable, mineral-salty finish. Guado al Tasso presents itself with a warm-toned bouquet and an abundance of fruit that is just as convincing as its harmonious structure. Deep, dark, rich ruby-purple colour. Alteni di Brassica - its name "alteni", stone walls that border the vineyards, and "brassica", a yellow spring flower of the region, in no way indicate a wallflower existence. On the contrary, they are synonymous with the region's first Sauvignon Blanc, which Angelo Gaja has been growing since 1983.
