Brunello di Montalcino “Greppo” Riserva DOCG 2012
"I have always preferred balanced wines and wines with a special character. Wines that have a balanced relationship between body, smell, tannins and acidity. Old and also very old wines that have matured without losing their characteristic features. Wines that reflect the tradition of the wine-growing area and the local diversity". Franco Biondi Santi
Only 38 vintages of Brunello di Montalcino Riserva have been available since 1888 - 24 of which were produced under the direction of Franco Biondi Santi. 2012 Riserva is the last vintage supervised and dedicated to Franco himself. A milestone in the history of Biondi Santi. SUPERIORE.DE"Warm, but not too hot summer, some precipitation at the end of August, September then cooling off; harvest on 10 September. Bright, powerful ruby-garnet, brightening edge. In the nose notes of fresh cherries, lots of pomegranate, in the background some saffron. Dense, powerful tannin characterizes the course, opens in many layers, salty and deep, has everything for a long life!" Falstaff
"A glorious nose to the wine with blackberries, plums, balsamic, mushrooms and bark. Floral. Some tile and terracotta undertones. Full-bodied with fine tannins and vivid, linear acidity running through the middle palate. Light toffee and smoke. Extremely long and lively. Traditional, yet very clean and beautiful. Drinkable now, but better after 2025." James Suckling
"Luminous garnet red. Perfumed nose of orange peel, cinnamon, sour red cherries, strawberries, talcum powder, and old fine leather, plus sneaky hints of slightly air-dried berries (not surprising, given how hot 2012 was, even taking into consideration that Biondi-Santi is one of the first estates to pick each year). Then juicy and dense with a silky mouthfeel to the flavors of red berries, blood orange and spices. Finishes long and silky now, but this specific Brunello Riserva was especially austere in its youth and so the estate decided to release it one year later than usual for sale. The wine carries an extra label "Dedicato a Franco Biondi Santi” (dedicated to Franco Biondi Santi) who passed away in 2013; CEO Giampiero Bertolino explained to me that everyone at the estate believed this wine was a real snapshot of Franco and the Brunellos he most enjoyed drinking, and so it was decided to dedicate it to him. Actually, there’s an air-dried quality to this wine that is absolutely enchanting, if in my opinion not altogether typical of Franco’s work. No matter, it’s one of the top three Brunello Riservas of the 2012 vintage." Vinous
"You will notice the dedication printed below the label of the wine label. It reads: "Dedicato a Franco Biondi Santi." Indeed, the Biondi-Santi 2012 Brunello di Montalcino Riserva is the last vintage made by the towering father figure of Brunello whom most everyone referred to as the "gentleman of Montalcino." Il Dottore, as he was also respectfully addressed, died at age 91 in April 2013, and he was very active in the winery as this magnificent wine took shape. This Riserva is a true work of beauty. It is released one year later than usual. The wine reflects the natural heft and power of the 2012 vintage, and it also shows that distinctive open-knit and accessible personality that characterizes this warm and sunny growing season. Il Dottore's magic touch is revealed in the level of fine detail and precision that transcends vintage, grape and territory. That extreme focus is an achievement of this estate alone located in the celebrated Il Greppo property. This Brunello pours from the bottle with a magnificent garnet color, and it evolves in the glass with dark fruit, candied orange peel, spice, licorice, anise seed, cola and balsam herb. The aromas are magical and ethereal, albeit slightly ripe and soft as expected of this vintage." Wine Advocate
"2012 is considered a warm vintage, more dry than hot and with an advanced harvest on 10 September: quite early for a Sangiovese from higher vineyards in Montalcino. The age of the vines has helped to give the wine outstanding complexity. It shows the typical freshness of Biondi Santi with red currant, pomegranate and orris root aromas, becoming more austere on the palate with rhubarb radice flavour, firm acidity and firm yet ripe tannins. The extraction is great and the tight-knit integration between fruit and structural elements gives it the depth to age for decades." Decanter
"This is the final Riserva to benefit from the late Franco Biondi Santi's masterful hand. It boasts enticing scents of rose, underbrush, red berry, new leather and crushed mint. The chiseled palate features succulent Morello cherry, pomegranate, orange zest, star anise and a hint of tobacco, all framed in taut, polished tannins. Firm acidity lends youthful tension and keeps it impeccably balanced." Wine Enthusiast

Brunello di Montalcino “Greppo” Riserva DOCG 2013
Energy and elegance are the hallmarks of the 2013 Brunello vintage. The top wines are stunning, with a vibrancy that is missing in many of the muscular, approachable and higher alcohol Brunellos from recent vintages. However, the 2013s will also require some patience to reach their maximum potential. In contrast to the extremely warm, dry years that have become the norm in Montalcino since the mid-1990s (the exceptions being 1998, 2002 and 2005), the 2013 vintage was a reminiscence of the past. It was a cool year with lots of rain in spring and the first half of summer.
So in 2013 in particular, it was especially important to find the right harvest. The 2013 Riserva presents itself multilayered, silky and translucent, but also with remarkable depth, power and the classic Biondi Santi austerity that will only reward the patient connoisseur. On the nose, which opens slowly with aeration, there are delicate hints of vibrant red cherry, underbrush and flint. Rich, dense and supple, with outstandingly precise red berry and mineral flavours accompanied by delicate notes of liquorice, chestnut and underbrush. The finish is very long and pure, with a seamless quality of classic Sangiovese flavours. Very promising and perfectly poised for the future! SUPERIORE.DE
"Shiny, intense ruby with a pronounced garnet tongue. Opens with slightly earthy notes, black truffle, also some anchovy, then lots of ripe plum, balsamic notes in the background. Very good volume in the attack, fills the palate immediately and full, lots of juicy cherry fruit, shows fine-meshed tannin in many layers, very good tension, spicy notes of coriander seeds in the final, salty." Falstaff
"Day one: Just mid ruby with orange tinges. Cool yet intense and complex on the nose. Contained yet deep. Minerally notes of cherry and blood orange. Compact transparent and with embryonic austerity. Reluctant to show it all, but the balance is sheer perfection. Finely powdered tannins and an elegant, medium palate weight. Furls up quickly on the finish into a dormant state. Needs at least half a decade more in bottle.
Day two: Just mid ruby with orange tinges. More brooding and introvert on the nose than yesterday, but no signs at all of oxidation. Great purity of fruit. Minerally peppery hints. Quite closed but exceedingly fine on the palate with finely chiselled tannins and succulent cherry and raspberry fruit. It's all a tad better integrated showing this wine needs a lot of bottle age. Transparent and long, but closes up on the finish.
Day three: Just mid ruby with broad orange rim. The nose is even more closed than the day before, but absolutely no signs of oxidation. Cool sour-cherry nose with a peppery tingle. Great depth, but brooding rather than expressive. Notes of iron. Racy, but stubborn palate firmly closed on the fruit and fine long powdery tannins. After having been open for over 72 hours it is still too young to approach." Jancis Robinson"The 2013 vintage is the estate's latest Riserva to be released, the winery’s 40th Riserva since 1888 and the first vintage in over 40 years without the leadership of Franco Biondi-Santi. Due to rainstorms in September, the family delayed picking until the end of the month, making 2013 a relatively late harvest for Biondi-Santi. Classic sour red cherry notes are accented by orange, sandalwood and fennel. The palate charms with its savoury expression, finely textured sandy tannins and underlying minerality. Understated and refined, it flows gracefully but will nevertheless benefit from a couple of years in the cellar." Decanter
"Tense and elegant, this red evokes strawberry, cherry, floral, iron and rosemary aromas and flavors. Harmonious in its linear profile and smooth, yet with adequate tannins for a long life ahead. The fresh finish balances fruit and balsamic elements." Wine Spectator
"A fresh, linear 2013 with cherry, mushroom and cedar character. Lots of blue fruit as well. Medium-to full-bodied with firm, polished tannins and a creamy finish. Still very tight, this needs time to open if you want to drink it now, Try decanting two or three hours in advance." James Suckling
"The 2013 Brunello di Montalcino Riserva blossoms in the glass in a display of understated power mixed with purity. This unfolds more like a whisper than a shout, wafting up with a delicate bouquet of fresh violets, lavender and a dusting of shaved cedar and clove. With time, it deepens further, pulling you down to earth with aromas of wild strawberry and underbrush. The textures are like pure silk gently draped across the palate, but what they leave behind is a more engaging and classic mix of salty mineral tones and tart red berries, all lifted by juicy acidity. This then takes another turn, now toward the savory spectrum, as wild herbal and inner earth tones mix with a fine layer of sweet tannin to create a youthfully austere yet not overtly structured expression, leaving a nuance of tobacco to linger long. The 2013 presents an intriguing interpretation of the Biondi Santi Riserva, one that shrugs off the grippy, gruff, almost rustic tannins of the past in exchange for a more youthfully harmonious expression. Will it age? Maybe not for 50 years, but considering that this beauty was open and tasted over the course of three days, I'm convinced that it will be thrilling for the next few decades to come." Vinous
"Fragrant and loaded with finesse, this stunning red still shows the estate's hallmark of elegance and structure, opening with enticing scents of rose, iris, wild red berry and a whiff of new leather. The vibrant palate is dazzling and almost ethereal, delivering flavors of succulent red cherry, pomegranate, star anise and a hint of forest floor. Taut, polished tannins and bright acidity provide impeccable balance." Wine Enthusiast
"The Biondi-Santi 2013 Brunello di Montalcino Riserva is a stunning wine from all points of view. Seamless integration and elegant complexity are what stand out, and it's worth dedicating a few extra lines to the aromatic depth that is put so beautifully on display as the wine slowly unfolds. The bouquet starts off with wild cherry, earth, wet ash, crème de cassis and pruny chocolate. With extra time, there are hints of dried tobacco leaf, sandalwood and mossy forest floor. These lead to a fine tail of dried herb, bay leaf and a touch of rusty nail. The Riserva comes in numbered bottles, and I opened number 04277. To the palate, the wine is streamlined and silky with smooth tannins and a well-managed 13.5% alcohol content. The oak presence is reduced to a minimum, offering mild hints of spice and the delicate sandalwood or dried fig aroma I described above. Fresh acidity is the glue that gives the wine buoyancy and staying power. At this young stage, this 2013 vintage could be considered a bit shy or slow to start, but this will play out to great advantage in the long term as the wine continues its bottle evolution." “Lodovico” Toscana IGT 2015
After many years of identifying the best Merlot, Cabernet and Petit Verdot parcels within the boundaries of their Bolgheri estate with the support of the famous oenologist Michel Rolland, the Antinori family discovered in the early 2000s that in the midst of this microclimate and terroir there was an even more special small vineyard whose results once again surpassed those of the larger area. It was immediately clear to all involved that this unique character had to be vinified and highlighted separately - this was the birth of today's cult wine Lodovico.
Lodovico from the rather "plump" and very balanced year 2015 in Western Tuscany immediately inspires in the glass with its rich, deeply saturated colour and the bouquet of dark plums, cedar wood, white smoke and vanilla. Compact and clear on the palate, the multi-layered aromas of black berries only gradually reveal themselves, but at no point do they seem overloaded. On the contrary: the balanced, bright acidity and the perfectly woven tannin keep the vintage-related opulence well in check and ensure that the DNA of this famous exceptional red wine is not only preserved but especially accentuated. SUPERIORE.DE
"Bright ruby red with a light garnet edge. Very incisive nose, of sour cherries, blackberries and plums, underpinned by fine spices. Dense and gripping on the palate, firm tannin built into lots of sweet melt, baroque richness, a firework of spice flavours." Falstaff
"The 2015 Lodovico is a wine of real character and personality. Espresso, mocha, blackberry, spice, leather, cedar and a host of Cabernet Franc-infused aromas and flavors race out of the glass. Deep and brooding in voice, the 2015 speaks with real authority. A hint of reduction is going to need time in bottle to dissipate." Vinous
"The spectacular 2015 Lodovico is shaping up to be wine of stratospheric intensity, depth and succulence. Lodovico is a six-hectare parcel found within the greater Bellaria vineyard (that makes the Biserno wine) at this important estate in Bibbona, Coastal Tuscany. The entire site is planted to Bordeaux grapes Cabernet Franc, Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon and Petit Verdot. This vintage delivers power and momentum that drives this wine smoothly over the palate. The bouquet is seamless with dark fruit tones that segue to spice, tar, smoke and cured leather." Wine Advocate
"This has a very deep and intense nose of dark plums, black pepper, charcuterie, vanilla, cedar, bark and dried nutmeg. Yet, there’s underlying freshness, thanks to hints of blueberries and fresh spices. Full-bodied and really plush, but framed in a fine coat of chewy tannins. Linear acidity throughout keeps it fresh and spicy." James Suckling

After many years of identifying the best Merlot, Cabernet and Petit Verdot parcels within the boundaries of their Bolgheri estate with the support of the famous oenologist Michel Rolland, the Antinori family discovered in the early 2000s that in the midst of this microclimate and terroir there was an even more special micro-vineyard whose results once again surpassed those of the larger area. Strong ruby with a black core. Intense and dense nose, opens with blackberry, mulberry and dark currant, tobacco and dark pepper in the background. Polished and velvety in attack and course, shows lots of juicy fruit, dark berries, fine-meshed, very polished tannin, radiates for a long time with a rich finish. Just 7,000 bottles were produced in 2017 from the single vineyard Vigna Lodovico of Tenuta di Biserno. Every year, the wine is a true icon of western Tuscany in terms of expression and complexity and is only allocated to a hand-picked number of importers each year. SUPERIORE.DE
"Powerful, sparkling ruby violet. Opens with notes of graphite and tobacco, lots of dark berries, especially blueberry and elderberry, some eucalyptus. Also shows a lot of tobacco on the palate, unfolds with grippy tannin, deep earthy components, some tomato paste, firm pressure on the final, but also drying, additional storage is certainly beneficial." Falstaff
"This has a polished nose of mulberries, cassis, cloves, cedar and lavender. It’s full-bodied with firm, chewy tannins. Plush and creamy with a velvety texture. Layered, rich and intense, with lingering spice and chocolate on a long finish. Very focused. Polished." James Suckling
"This is the headline wine from Lodovico Antinori's Tenuta di Biserno. The hot vintage 2017 Lodovico shows a rich and deeply saturated color with elegant tones of dark fruit, spice, rum cake, dried plum, jerky, charred meat and cured tobacco. Like the Biserno, this special vineyard selection reveals slightly less depth and dimension in terms of mouthfeel. That more compact palate is a common feature of the 2017 vintage in which hard work and severe fruit selection was achieved in order to counter the jammy concentration of the berries. This remains a big wine, however, with the balanced and bright acidity that is a crucial indicator of the wine's undeniable quality and pedigree." Wine Advocate

Brunello di Montalcino “Filo di Seta” Riserva DOCG 2019
Brunello di Montalcino Filo di Seta Riserva comes from a unique vineyard site that is characterised by a greater presence of slate or slate-like shards in the soil. These conditions contribute to the very typical, pungent and concentrated flavours that are offered here on a silver platter. One automatically thinks of pencil shavings and granite rock. However, the wine is equally impressive when it comes to its rich fruit and floral profile, and there is enough spice and soft leather or tobacco to bring it all together in one happy package. SUPERIORE.DE
"The Brunello di Montalcino Riserva Filo di Seta 2019 blossoms in the glass as crushed ash stones and grated sage meet dried orange peel, a hint of smoke and dried black cherries. It floods the palate with silky textures and ripe, citrus-driven wild berry flavours, while tactile mineral tones give it grip. The cooling acidity gives the wine a light and graceful touch. A hint of lavender lingers over the rich, tart red berry flavours as it tapers off with remarkable length - powerful yet wonderfully fresh." Vinous
"A striking and intense example, the second Riserva from the estate's Filo di Seta vineyard opens with cloves, sarsaparilla and candied orange zest. The ageing in (mostly used) tonneaux gives it subtle toasted and incense accents. The wine is broad and expansive, with wet leaves and porcini mushrooms balancing the sweetness of the fruit. The acidity is also pleasant. The texture is very suede-like, with a crisp tannin finish that fades with zesty citrus." Decanter
"The 2019 Brunello di Montalcino Riserva Filo di Seta offers savoury barbecue spices, tarry smoke and black fruits over a full-bodied, powerful texture. However, this brooding darkness hides a complex and modern wine that remains fluid in the glass as it alternates between different fruit and oak flavours. It shows gently polished edges over a firm backbone of chalky tannins." Wine Advocate

The grapes for the Granbussia, which is only produced in the best years with just 3,000 bottles, come from the best and oldest vines of the Romirasco, Colonnello and Cicala vineyards. It remains in the cellar for at least 9 years before being put on sale. Finest nebbiolo nose with notes of anise, truffle, leather and wild berries. "The earthy, woodsy aromas show some evolution in this red, with just a hint of white truffle, yet there's still a hefty dose of spicy oak to be resolved. Rich and sumptuous midpalate, showing plum, cherry, tar and tobacco flavors shaded by vanilla and toasty spices, with firm, dusty tannins laying a grip on the long finish." Wine Spectator

“Luce” Toscana IGT 2021 · 6 bottles in OWC
Luce is the iconic wine of the estate of the same name and symbolises the harmonious balance between the elegant structure of Sangiovese and the richness of Merlot. The wine marries the tradition and terroir of the Montalcino region with a personal interpretation of this extraordinary land.
Almost impenetrable ruby red colour. The bouquet is initially reductive and relatively austere, opening up soft and warm with increasing aeration, with a seductive aroma of ripe berries, tobacco and leather. The flavour is concentrated, distinctive and tannic, yet silky and promising on the palate. The finish is long and deep with hints of coffee and vanilla. A great blend of Merlot and Sangiovese with great potential. SUPERIORE.DE
"Powerful ruby colour with a slight violet hue. Opens with a somewhat cool nose of blueberries, blackberries and tobacco. Firm tannins on the palate, savoury, lots of dark berry fruit." Falstaff
"Sticking to its blueprint, the Tenuta Luce 2021 Luce della Vite remains a "super Tuscan-styled" blockbuster that speaks more of the grapes used in the blend than it does its territory. It shows thick extraction, soft tannins and a velvety mouthfeel. The oak tannins are a little dry, but the wine remains plush and accessible overall." Wine Advocate
"The 2021 is an incredibly floral rendition of the Luce, with a seductive bouquet of dried rose petals and incense intertwined with sawdust and crushed blueberries. It is cool and supple with a radiant core of red and black fruits, underscored by salty minerals and lashing, brilliant acidity. Powerful tannins emerge on the finish, while it remains primary yet juicy. Sour cranberries mingle with liquorice and spices on the finish. The fresh personality that Luce has taken on in recent years has catapulted this label far beyond the expectations of the past." Vinous
"Aromas and flavours of lavender, plum, black cherry, vanilla, earth and resin are the hallmarks of this concentrated yet lively red wine. Firm, ripe tannins provide initial grip on the finish, but this red wine is complex and long, with all its components in place." Wine Spectator
"Blackcurrant, minerals, mint and a hint of chocolate follow through to a medium to full body with linear fruit and tannins that run the length of the wine. The tannins are very polished, with beauty and style. It needs three or four years to develop." James Suckling

Barolo “Falletto Vigna Le Rocche” Riserva DOCG 2017
Giacosa's Barolo Vigna Le Rocche is only vinified in the best vintages as a Riserva (red label) and has a magical attraction for Nebbiolo lovers all over the world.
Barolo Falletto Vigne Le Rocche Riserva demands attention and respect. The wine opens with a dark and penetrating colour and an immediately expressive bouquet from which rise dense layers of dark fruits, ferruginous earth, balsamic herbs, Darjeeling tea, dried ginger and cherry cola. The wine successfully and magically turns the tables on the over-exuberance of the warm 2017 vintage and the natural weight of the highest site in Serralunga d'Alba. It succeeds brilliantly in restraining all that power and transforming it instead into streamlined elegance. SUPERIORE.DE
"This supple red wine is elegant and powerful, driven by an underlying mineral element. Aromas and flavours of strawberries, cherries, roses, iron and wild thyme linger and develop into a long aftertaste, while dense, refined tannins offer support. It offers excellent balance and length." Wine Spectator
"This year's top-end release from Bruno Giacosa is the 2017 Barolo Riserva Falletto Vigna Le Rocche (in the red label). Bottled in 2019, the wine stands apart thanks to a hot and dry growing season that Bruna Giacosa is very excited about. In fact, she prefers 2017 to 2015, although the two vintages do share similarities. This wine is very open-knit, and it reveals dark concentration in the form of ripe blackberry, candied cherry and spice. The tannins show a loose, granular quality that adds considerably to the textural impact of this Riserva." Wine Advocate
"Roses and lavender with other flowers. Peaches. Lovely fruit of dark plums and ripe strawberries. Dense and intense, but with layers of very fine tannins, like fine cashmere. Lasts for minutes. Opens up in the mouth. Almost endless. Give this wine at least five to six years." James Suckling

Giacosa's Barolo Vigna Le Rocche is only vinified in the best vintages as a Riserva (red label) and has a magical attraction for Nebbiolo lovers all over the world.
The Le Rocche vineyard has the oldest vines of the Falletto site. Deep ruby red with light red rim. On the nose redcurrant, plum, exciting brown spices, menthol, marzipan, liquorice and balsamic notes. On the palate, a beautiful breadth with a vibrant finish, this beautiful wine flows almost weightlessly and reveals a cornucopia of dark berries, some truffle and a fine mineral note as it continues to drink. The sweet tannins combine ideally with the explosive fruit and in the end, this exceptional vintage leaves such a clear, sparkling clean impression that one can almost breathlessly await its further development. SUPERIORE.DE
"The Bruno Giacosa 2016 Barolo Falletto Vigna Le Rocche is made from the oldest vines of the Falletto vineyard. This wine has all the characteristic features of Serralunga d'Alba, with the massive structure, density and long ageing potential that comes with Nebbiolo from this village. The wine spreads evenly on the palate, giving it its considerable fruit weight and generally leaving a great impression. This Barolo is really very sweet and beautiful. The bouquet is fluid and changeable, revealing new pages of firm fruit, blackberry, smoke, rusty nail and minerals every time the glass is swirled. Just before tasting this wine, I visited this vineyard and admired the beautiful peacocks that roam freely among the rows of vines." Wine Advocate
"This red bursts with juicy cherry, blackberry, floral and mineral aromas and flavors fused to a firm structure, with dense tannins gaining the upper hand on the finish for now. Nevertheless, there is a beam of pure cherry throughout and this finishes long, with fruit and wild herbs gracing the aftertaste." Wine Spectator
"After the 2015, this is the second 100-point wine from Vigna Le Rocche. What the first had in fruit intensity and transparency, this one has in structure and power. The purity of fruit is sensational in this young Barolo, offering blackberries, black truffle and iron. Rust too. It is tannic and powerful with incredible structure. This is perhaps the best structured Barolo from Bruno Giacosa I have ever tasted as a young wine. Speechless. Full-bodied and so intense, yet it remains fresh and agile. Traditional in the truest sense of the word, but it is crisp and clean. A classic in the making. Try it in 2027." James Suckling

Brunello di Montalcino Riserva 1998 comes from a vintage that initially attracted little attention but is now in full bloom and is an outstanding example of the ageing ability of Biondi Santi's wines.
Dark garnet red with brown rim. In the full bouquet a potpourri of dried red berries, spices, damp forest floor, rose petals and violets. Behind these feminine aromas are power and determination, and at the same time they provide an extremely harmonious overall impression on the palate with the still very compact fruit, the lively acidity and its present but very polished tannins. The incipient maturity is very much to its advantage, providing a soft and warm texture that cushions it wonderfully and makes it a special experience. Hardly any Italian red wine will continue to give as much pleasure in many years as this 1998 Riserva! SUPERIORE.DE
"Lustrous mid ruby with narrow orange rim. Amazing focus and lift on the nose. Sour cherry with hints of iron and liquorice. Still so youthful and concentrated and at the same time so elegant. Succulent and long and with a layer of polished tannins carrying the fruit. Cool, sleek and long, this is a monument of elegance and style." Jancis Robinson
"Features beautiful perfume, evoking rose, cherry, licorice and tobacco. Elegant, delicate even, with fine harmony and refinement. Cherry and raspberry flavors are persistent. Lacks the power of a 2001 or 1997, but shows finesse and filigree." Wine Spectator
"The 1998 Brunello di Montalcino Riserva comes from an under-the-radar vintage that has blossomed today. The aging potential of these Riservas from Il Greppo must be tasted to be believed. Driven by fresh acidity that remains firm and taut, this wine reveals a dark garnet color and mid-weight concentration. The bouquet presents a careful succession of dried berry, forest floor and spice aromas that builds in intensity as the wine warms in the glass. The wine hits the palate with immediate brilliance and sparkle. This bottle is at its drinking prime right now. It's a true beauty." Wine Advocate
"Boasting alluring scents of new leather, truffle, camphor, pipe tobacco and just a whiff of tar, this just re-released Riserva from the estate's cellar is absolutely gorgeous. Loaded with finesse, the polished, vibrant palate delivers dried cherry, orange zest, cinnamon and nutmeg alongside silky, smooth tannins before finishing on a note of black tea. Still amazingly fresh and going strong." Wine Enthusiast

“Tre Terre” Amarone della Valpolicella Classico DOCG 2013
The name Tre Terre refers to the origin of the grapes for the Quintarelli family's new masterpiece: they come from the municipalities of Negrar, Marano and Sant'Ambrogio. Its style, with its more pronounced tannins, spiciness and tangy acidity, differs greatly from the winery's classic Amarone range. Red cherries and herbs come to the fore, and overall it has an astonishing minerality and objectivity for Amarone, which makes it more recognisable as an aristocratic Barolo than a more powerful Amarone. Very idiosyncratic in its interpretation, but with its rough edges as always in a class of its own! SUPERIORE.DE
"You said Quintarelli and you said Valpolicella, an Amarone with four quarters of nobility that has traced the history of the type from the vineyard of the same name. Nose of cherries in alcohol, notes of liquorice and mint. Spicy-salty tannins on the palate, very persistent." Luca Gardini

Limitation of 1 articles per customerBarbaresco “Costa Russi” DOP 2021
The high density of the vines, planted in a south-facing amphitheatre, ensured perfect ripening in 2021. Costa Russi is full-bodied and fleshy and has a deep red colour. Beautiful scents of peonies and lilies, followed by exquisite blackberry fruit combined with raspberry coulis and a hint of pepper. The fruit is slightly darker than the other Barbaresco wines from Gaja with a hint of spice and pungency. Excellent expression, vibrancy, freshness and charm. The tannins are deceptively soft and generous, this wine is wonderful now but will be even better in a decade. SUPERIORE.DE
"Costa Russi is a single vineyard at the end of a hill in the south-west of Barbaresco. On the nose, it has wonderful floral notes, tar, bright red cherries, fresh plums and wild strawberries as well as a touch of flint. Highly elegant on the palate with fine tannins, still incredibly youthful, deeply layered and mineral, interspersed with wonderful red berry fruits such as wild raspberries and herbal notes." Weinwisser
"Bright, powerful ruby-garnet colour. Very precise and clear nose of ripe dark wild raspberries, juicy, fresh plums, some black truffles. Radiant on the palate, shows lots of compact red fruit, then opens up with pithy tannins in many layers, savoury final." Falstaff
"Expressive and elegant, this red wine displays aromas and flavours of cherries, strawberries, roses and minerals. At this youthful stage, it is skilfully balanced, with refined tannins and lively acidity that lingers with a complex blend of fruit and mineral elements and a hint of eucalyptus." Wine Spectator
"This wine is very aromatic, with nutmeg, white pepper, matchsticks, flint, blackberries, brambles and iodine. Medium-bodied with supple and elastic tannins that give it shape and race. Spicy on the finish. Shows excellent potential. Give this wine three to four years to open up." James Suckling
"The Barbaresco Costa Russi 2021 is dark, rich and enveloping in the style of the best wines from this hillside vineyard. Plush contours give the Costa Russi a feeling of total sensuality. Preserved dark cherries, spice, leather, liquorice and dried flowers come through beautifully in this gorgeous, resonant Barbaresco. This is a fabulous Costa Russi." Vinous

Limitation of 1 articles per customer100% Sangiovese Soldera Case Basse Toscana IGP 2018
Deep, rich ruby red colour. Intoxicating nose with clearly perceptible herbal spice, wonderfully layered with hints of mint and young leather. Lively, vibrant dark red cherry flavours paired with fine, original grape sweetness on the palate, always with a precision and structure that is rarely found in a glass. Its purity, vibrancy and deeply impressive personality are revealed with every sip. Rarely has a Sangiovese made us so devout. It has everything that makes a perfect wine! SUPERIORE.DE
"The 2018 Sangiovese stuns the senses with an exotic bouquet that keeps the glass in constant motion as sandalwood and crushed stones complicate rhubarb and violet blossom flavours, all engulfing a core of brilliant strawberry fruit. The wine is racy and supple, with a silky yet vibrant texture and vibrant acidity that emphasises the ripe wild berry fruit. The 2018 finishes with dramatic length and is full of energy. An orange glow balances the angular tannins, and purple flowers fade slowly over a lingering note of red candy. I've never experienced such a racy rendition of Soldera, and yet this wine is full of character and expertly balanced. Don't miss it." Vinous
"Soldera fans will be very pleased with this latest release, which, despite the uneven growing season (with a wet and cool spring and a hot summer), shows tremendous Sangiovese character and lustre. The legendary Gianfranco Soldera died of a heart attack on the morning of 16 February 2019 while driving along the bucolic, vineyard-lined road near his winery. This means that this is the last vintage to be managed directly by Soldera, a man who was very active in the vineyards and winery until the very end. As a farewell gift, he presents us with a finely nuanced wine with flavours of cassis, wild berries, rosemary, pencil shavings and blood orange. This is a beautiful wine that pays tribute not only to Gianfranco Soldera, but also to his non-interventionist vision of Italian wine that has influenced so many younger winemakers." Wine Advocate

Brunello di Montalcino “Greppo” Riserva DOCG 1997 · 0,75l in OWC
Greppo Riserva from the absolute top year 1997 - newly corked, as Biondi Santi does every 20 years also on behalf of customers - smells of flowers, licorice, red berries and spices. Elegance and perfection at the palate, long, supple, juicy up to the endless final. SUPERIORE.DE
"Optimal vintage, rain in spring, June and July dry and warm, refreshing downpours again and again in August; harvestin early September. Rich, sparkling ruby garnet. Shows nice ripe cherry fruit on the nose, some plum, plus blackberry, the warmth of the vintage is also evident in the riper flavors. Firm and sturdy on the palate, gripping, dense tannin, lots of ripe fruit, surprisingly broad for Biondi Santi." Falstaff
"The celebrated 1997 vintage was, generally speaking, overestimated in Tuscany and most of the wines are today more evolved than expected. It was considered one of the best vintages of the 20th century for two key reasons: it was the warmest harvest of the cool 1990s, and there were some excellent wines from the coolest spots for Sangiovese. Biondi Santi's steep hill of Il Greppo and its BBS11 clone loves warm vintages and certainly they have pushed the reputation of the year. The quality of this Riserva is immediately clear: the outstanding freshness of the attack is still there, and the palate shines for the savoury red berries melded with hints of wild fowl, liquorice stick and Earl grey, increasing its citrus elegance. It displays the perfect balance of structural elements, still tense with velvety tannins. The sweet cherry kernel flavours sit on a broader than usual palate, with not quite firm acidity." Decanter
"A ripe expression, showing broad shoulders, this is still monolithic and dense at 15 years. Cherry, plum and stony aromas and flavors are supported by fresh acidity and dusty tannins. The tight finish contains a mineral element. Opens up with time in the glass, but could use another 5 to 10 years of aging." Wine Spectator
"The Biondi-Santi 1997 Brunello di Montalcino Riserva was never previously reviewed; therefore, I am very excited to add an official record of this stunning wine to our database. This vintage delivers structure and age-worthy intensity that should carry it forward successfully for more years ahead. However, if you decide to pop the cork now, rest assured that this excellent Brunello has now entered its prime drinking window. The bouquet is polished and fine, with wild fruit aromas that segue to balsam herb and licorice. The finish is long and extremely polished. This is a real beauty." Wine Advocate

Barbaresco “Sorì Tildin” DOP 2021
Barbaresco Sorì Tildìn is a fabulous, incredibly complete wine that rises from the glass with an explosive structure and vertical lift. The tannins are very present, but also beautifully matched by the aromatic intensity and overall drive of the wine. Dark macerated cherry, spice, leather, liquorice, plum and mocha add darker nuances. All elements are impeccably balanced. It is quite simply a majestic wine of true greatness and absolute class, but it is not obvious. The true essence of Nebbiolo! SUPERIORE.DE
"The vineyard is located above Costa Russi and resembles an amphitheatre. A multi-faceted bouquet of red and blue fruits, freshly picked plums paired with Mediterranean scrub and sweet spices. Very precisely woven in the mouth with compact fruit, powerful with a gripping freshness, but remains elegant in the course and final with beautiful cherry notes and a bright, radiant presence." Weinwisser
"Powerful, bright ruby-garnet colour. Very clear and memorable nose with notes of fresh cherry, crisp raspberry, blood orange and pomegranate. Fills the palate full, compact and very present, well-developed fruit, opens up with present, pithy tannins in many layers, has plenty of bite at the back, made for a long life!" Falstaff
"Rich and almost creamy in texture, this detailed red evokes aromas and flavours of cherries, strawberries, roses, iron, tobacco and sweet spices. Well defined by lively acidity, with dense tannins to support it, it is balanced and harmonious, but should benefit from two to three years of ageing. It shows great finesse and length." Wine Spectator
"Subtle and complex flavours of blackberries, pine needles, bark, light spices and violets. It is really perfumed and attractive. Full-bodied and chewy, but the tannins are very, very fine. It lingers for minutes. This is a brooding, muscular wine, but it's very refined. A wine for the cellar." James Suckling

Barbaresco Sorì San Lorenzo 2020 is a wine for the ages, which needs 10 to 15 years in the bottle to really mature. Sorì San Lorenzo is often a great, virile wine. The 2020 has a lot of power, but at the same time you also find refinement and certain nuances that Sorì San Lorenzo has rarely, if ever, shown. Black cherry, cloves, menthol, liquorice, gravel and incense are just some of the many aromas and flavours that meld together in this dramatic and dramatically beautiful Barbaresco from the Gaja family. Sorì San Lorenzo 2020 literally explodes on the finish with an abundance of mouth watering aromas, flavours and textures. An outrageously beautiful, vibrant wine with real gravitas and power. SUPERIORE.DE
"Sparkling ruby-garnet colour, medium density, with a light rim. Extremely fine nose with notes of roses, raspberries and some cranberries, cloves in the background. Unfolds after a somewhat hesitant attack with astonishingly full-bodied tannins, juicy raspberry fruit, spans a wide arc, full-bodied pressure on the final." Falstaff
"Elements of eucalyptus and juniper grace the cherry and raspberry fruit in this intense, complex red. Mineral and spice accents chime in as this builds to a long aftertaste. The texture is supple and there's plenty of energy on the resonant finish, where a chalky feel adds to the overall appeal." Wine Spectator
"The Sori San Lorenzo vineyard, first produced in 1967, proves itself to be the boldest and most forward of the 2020 single crus. Aromas of black cherry, macerated raspberries, incense and black tea define the nose. Mouthfilling, the wine's palate shines with preserved red berries, savory herbs, dried flowers and cedar that seamlessly coalesce around the ripe tannins and elegant finish." Wine Enthusiast
"The textural tannins are immediately obvious in this 2020, supporting delicate, fragrant and sapid dark forest fruits, overlaid with scents of dried cherry and earth. Zesty acidity delivers a long, vibrant finish of earthy succulence, displaying great tension." Decanter
"The Gaja 2020 Barbaresco Sorì San Lorenzo has bright cherry, currant and underbrush. This wine is very pretty in the mouth, especially if you considered the silky nature of the weightless tannins. The San Lorenzo is fueled by a long finish and does not drop off on the mid-palate. It keeps going strong with red fruits, high notes and balanced acidity. The wood tannins are melted into the wine's fine texture." Wine Advocate
"The 2020 Barbaresco Sorì San Lorenzo is ample and potent, with tons of mid-palate intensity and palate-staining resonance. Black cherry, plum, new leather, licorice, gravel and dried herbs abound. As is so often the case, Sorì San Lorenzo is the most inward." Vinous
"The aromas are like a bouquet of pink roses. So perfumed. Citrus. It also has subtle and pure aromas of strawberries, cherries and stone. Full-bodied but agile and floating on the palate with firm and chewy tannins at the end that remain balanced and fresh." James Suckling

While the Barbaresco Costa Russi expresses itself more discreetly with purity and grace, the Barbaresco Sorì San Lorenzo struts in the front row. It has a firmer texture and is not as timid or restrained as the Costa Russi. The Sorì San Lorenzo site is closest to the warm air currents that flow down the Tanaro river valley, and this vineyard site is always the first to ripen and be harvested. A stronger mineral note can be found here, with iron rust, pencil shavings and potting soil mingling with the primary fruit, revealing an astonishing complexity and depth. SUPERIORE.DE
"Not yet on the market at the time of tasting, but already exudes an aroma of red berries and leather, with a delicate hint of meadow flowers; excellent structure with accentuated acidity and characterful, promising tannins, the finish is complex and persistent. Put it in the cellar and wait." Vinum
"The Sorì San Lorenzo site is often the first to be harvested as it benefits from warm air currents. Wow, what a breathtaking, expressive nose, almost transcendental, incredibly profound and complex, bright red, freshly picked flowers, graphite, blossoms and fine terroir and iron notes, which are typical here. Powerful structure on the palate, the finest raspberries, minerality throughout, a super arc of tension with a bright, radiant style through to the long, vibrant final." Weinwisser
"Bright ruby colour with a broad garnet rim. Exciting nose with aromas of roses and cranberries, then lots of ripe wild raspberry, underpinned by fine spice components. Textured, very well-distributed tannins in many layers, characterises the palate, coated in fine enamel, currently similarly closed as Tildin, but has great potential that can be enjoyed for decades to come." Falstaff
"This rich, juicy version is packed with aromas and flavours of ripe cherries, raspberries, roses, graphite and menthol. The lush, supple texture is balanced by a dense line of chalky tannins that build on the finish. It shows excellent balance and length, seducing with its upfront fruit before tightening up - a taster of its potential." Wine Spectator
"A rather exotic and wild Sori San Lorenzo. Even extravagant. Dried flowers and spices with bark, mushroom and dried dark cherry. Perfumed and primarily with earth. Full-bodied and juicy with fine, velvety tannins that are multi-layered and magnificent. So classic and soft on the palate with great length. Give this wine four to five years, but it will become a classic." James Suckling

"Transparent ruby red with a crimson fading rim. Spicy notes of cloves, allspice, mace and pepper mingle with cherries, bay and raspberry jelly, currant leaves and floral top notes of orange blossom complete the delight. On the palate, Crichët Pajé presents itself with great calm in a steady flow. Nothing is brash or exuberant here, but shines with distinguished elegance - an equilibrium in perfect balance. The aromatically exuberant nose is disciplined on the palate by the long, calm flow of focused, cool acidity, on whose shores fully ripe and fine-grained tannins entwine. Silky with an almost aristocratic nobility, its enormous complexity is revealed in the second sip when the flavors begin to unravel in the epic finish like a massive Win-Zip file. A wine for today, for tomorrow and for many, many more years to come. Undisputedly world class." Sebastian Bordthäuser (Sommelier und Wein-Journalist)
"Made with extremely old vines, the youngest of which are over 60 years old and most much older, this opens with aromas of new leather, scorched earth, underbrush and balsamic notes of camphor. Concentrated and boasting a great depth of flavors, the structured, full-bodied palate delivers raspberry compote, dried black cherry, carob and hazelnut alongside firm, enveloping tannins. Another compelling wine from the estate." Wine Enthusiast
"This red is full of mulled plum, cherry, menthol, stone and spice flavors. Concentrated yet fluid, with a tightly packed finish. Well-balanced and approachable now if decanted." Wine Spectator
"It's easy to fall into the cult of Crichët Pajé. The wine's name means "little hill" in Piemontese dialect, and the winemaking process is carefully weighed and contemplated. The Roagna 2011 Barbaresco Crichët Pajé is fermented with indigenous yeasts, with submerged cap and sees eight long years of aging in both oak and cement. Fruit is drawn from a half-hectare, south-facing parcel high on the Pajé slope that has been farmed by this family since 1953. The bouquet reveals wild berry fruit, rose hip, cedar, crushed stone, smoke and licorice. This expression is lightweight in texture, yet it expertly balances a full load of aromas and flavors on that small frame. The heat of the vintage has not hurt the freshness or the sharpness that you perceive here." Wine Advocate
"Just bottled, the 2011 Barbaresco Crichët Pajè is unbelievably refined. Sweet red cherry, rosewater, mint, dried flowers, pine and kirsch give the 2011 an upper register of perfume that is utterly beguiling. Silky and classy to the core, the 2011 is the most sensual Crichët Pajè I can remember tasting. There is plenty of tannin, that is clear, but it is also pretty much buried by the sheer luxuriousness of the fruit. This is such a gorgeous and complete wine. There is just an unreal amount of freshness for this dry, torrid year. Wow!!" Vinous

Its colour and aromas show optimal concentration both visually and olfactorily and are characterised by a constant liveliness in the glass that does not diminish over time. On the palate, the power of this wine is expressed with a beautiful length and balsamic notes. Its solid tannin structure reveals the ageing potential typical of Masseto. SUPERIORE.DE
"Dark, transparent colour. Generously matured, chocolaty sweet and profound, the complex, finesse-rich nose presents itself with fine wood in it. Very dense and melting, it is extremely fine and balanced on the palate, with a large, broad structure. It carries a lot of energy and vibrancy, its dense, melting tannins are very fine-grained and clearly arranged. A great, full-bodied Masseto with plenty of flesh and richness, very harmonious, perfectly balanced and long. It always remains fresh, with exceptional presence and great depth, which it also owes to the Cabernet Franc. Noble polish, impressive perfection." Weinwisser
"The monolith - Merlot, recently also with some Cabernet Franc - of the Tuscan coast: beguiling perfume of blackberry, lilac and Mediterranean macchia, subtle notes of spices; the precise tannin-acid structure combines fullness and pressure with a light-footed evolution, leading to a smooth spicy-fruity final." Vinum
"Rich, deep dark ruby colour with a fine violet sheen. Intense and dense nose, opens with notes of cold smoke, then lots of dark redcurrant, blackberry and graphite. Full-bodied and dense in attack and finish, opens with densely woven tannins, fine spice, appears very compact, slightly earthy components on the final." Falstaff
"The Masseto 2020 features new DNA by adding a touch of Cabernet Franc to this famous Merlot-based iconic wine. This is a vintage of tremendous richness and density, and everything about this wine is a notch or two higher. But Axel Heinz and his team are well prepared for hot vintages like 2020, and changes in vineyard and canopy management ensure even ripening. This wine is always difficult to analyse in its youth. It still needs many years to soften and develop. Give it time." Wine Advocate
"Complex, with a lush texture and saturated aromas and flavours of plum, blackberry, black olive, iron, tobacco and toasted spices, this red wine has a full, rich timbre. It offers a lively, well-integrated structure, with a long aftertaste of fruit and spice and a pleasant chalky feel." Wine Spectator
"The Masseto 2020 is great. Bright and vibrant in the glass, the 2020 offers an exciting blend of dark fruit, mocha, spice, leather, tobacco, cedar and a hint of French oak. Lively acidity and Franc flavours add vibrancy. Franc is so evident today. This wine is exceptionally polished and refined, if a little lean compared to most years. In 2020, the Masseto is more finesse than power." Vinous
"Intense aromas of ripe herbs, plums, green coffee beans and hazelnuts. Then again crushed berries and orange peel. Full-bodied with excellent concentration and fine, velvety tannins that extend over the entire length of the wine. It is big, but agile and beautiful. Merlot. What a wine!" James Suckling
"A hedge maze of aromas greets the nose, from blackberries and black cherries to crushed stones and crumpled petals, before a gentle addition of vanilla and toasted coconut. The palate is drenched in mixed berries with vanilla and cardamom, followed by notes of freshly ploughed earth and flint and finally a tart, brooding spice on the finish. The tannins carpet the palate and the acrobatic acidity emphasises the finish with salt and pepper. A wine that speaks volumes without shouting." Wine Enthusiast
"Intense and full on the nose, redolent of ripe black fruits, floral aspects and gentle spice. The palate is round and full, rich and muscular, yet tightly and cleanly wound, with hints of liquorice, graphite, pepper, cinnamon and cloves adding an immediate but pleasing spice. It feels well-crafted, juicy with a high acidity that lifts the palate and gives it freshness and brightness, along with really delicious strawberry and raspberry fruit that captivates with dried flowers and bitter orange peel. The tannins are very fine and well integrated, yet the wine remains grippy from the start and persistent on the finish. It is nuanced and complex and still has plenty of power, but it comes across as refined, supple, purposeful and controlled. It's not elegant, more like an animal in a cage that has yet to realise its full potential, but it's stylish. A truly delicious wine with so much purity and sense of place." Decanter

So much verve and purity, integration and harmony can be found in the Masseto 2021. Black raspberry, mulberry, a hint of toasted brioche. A beautiful natural sweetness, plus a delicacy and subtlety that is simply beautiful and tantalising. Black biros ink and more and more cedar wood with gentle aeration. Creamy. Essences of petals - with a little more lilac, lily and hyacinth than rose. Then graphite again. A wonderful texture on the finish, as soft and caressing as a million layers (milles feuilles plus!) of silk, but actually with a deeper and richer texture - so more cashmere perhaps than silk. Lively, flowing, dynamic and incredibly juicy. Radiant in its incredible dynamism and energy. Very special and above all endless on the finish. Wow! SUPERIORE.DE
"Bright, intense ruby colour with violet shimmer. Very appealing and rich nose of cassis, blackberry, dark tobacco and graphite. Dense, very concentrated tannins, builds up powerfully, lots of dark berry fruit, savoury and with great length on the final." Falstaff
"Probably the flagship of the Merlot grape variety in Italy: with a harmonious bouquet of mulberries, herbal notes, including rosemary, the wood perfectly integrated; powerful on the palate and yet elegant, powdery, fine-grained tannins, beautiful progression towards flavours of dark berries, undergrowth and chocolate. Despite the fullness of this vintage, it also has a great deal of finesse." Vinum
"The Masseto 2021 is once again 100% Merlot. The last vintages contained a tiny proportion of Cabernet Franc. It is a very rich and elaborate wine with corresponding extract, firm tannins and a high alcohol content of 15.5%. The wine smells of confit blackberries and cooked cherries, with a broad palette of sweet oak spices to finish. There is dark chocolate with a thin layer of creamy mint flavour. Given this richness and generous fruit weight, the Masseto is quite a commitment in terms of price and further cellaring. Further bottle ageing is an absolute must." Wine Advocate
"Blueberries and black olives with violets and hints of sage and rosemary flowers. Full and powerful with lots of fruit and vanilla on the palate. A rich and flavourful red wine that is nevertheless beautifully held together. Muscular and powerful. Needs five or six years to develop. Give it time." James Suckling
"After a mild and wet winter, the spring was dry and the summer was characterised by above-average temperatures and periods of drought. Fortunately, the vines were able to be quenched by the water reserves built up at the beginning of the year. The Masseto 2021 really has it all: a vertical shape and savoury character, juicy fruit, a fresh profile and finesse of tannins. Mediterranean herbs accompany ripe, dark fruit aromas and flavours that have yet to develop their full depth and charm." Decanter
"Plum and blackberry flavours are wrapped in an embrace of toasted oak, with vanilla, resin and iron accents. Dense tannins coat the gums, while bright acidity keeps this wine focused and drives the savoury aftertaste. This fluid and long, silky red wine impresses with its finesse. A great success in a great vintage." Wine Spectator
"The Masseto 2021 is a real eye-catcher. It also shows how much the winery has developed in recent years. I was reminded of this recently when I drank the 2001, which is considered by many observers, including this one, to be one of the greatest wines ever made here. The 2021 represents a move towards a more refined style. It has less of the bombastic intensity and extraction that was once the norm here. The 2021 is an absolute delight. Crushed flowers, spices, blood orange and bright, red-coloured fruit adorn the palate. The harvestwill find a Masseto based more on linear energy than volume. The 2021 is quite simply the most exquisite, refined young Masseto I have ever tasted." Vinous

An impressive and unforgettable Merlot from the sun-drenched vineyards of the Bolgheri zone near the Mediterranean Sea. It has received lavish praise in the trade press from all over the world. The bouquet combines dark, very ripe fruit and tobacco. Velvety tannins, an ingratiatingly alcoholic character and tremendous persistence are part of its soft taste. SUPERIORE.DE
"Strong ruby garnet, good depth of colour, violet reflections, delicate rim brightening. Attractive heart cherry fruit, delicate notes of blackberries and liquorice, a hint of violets, lime zest, nuances of sea salt and nougat. Complex, elegant, fine wood spice, delicate hints of caramel, present tannins, good freshness, already accessible, mineral finish, discreet toasty tones in the aftertaste, sure future potential, already amazingly accessible, can be enjoyed right off the bat." Falstaff
"Black olive, liquorice, dark chocolate, and plenty of furry tannic substance on the palate. Lovely bright acid too, giving a lift to the finish. Not a shy wine, but not brash either – this has subtlety and contrast." Jancis Robinson
"The 2014 Masseto has developed beautifully over the past few years of its oak and bottle evolution. This is a very distinctive edition of the iconic Italian Merlot that delivers a silky and streamlined approach. As bold and opulent as Masseto is in the warm vintages, I personally find those wines difficult to finish because the extract, concentration and intensity are so over the top. The best vintages of Masseto usually overpower any food dish you put before them. This is a subdued and downplayed expression instead. The cool summer season has shaped fresh berry notes of wild blackberry and cassis with drying mineral, tobacco, licorice and tar. There is evident sweetness here in terms of the wine's fruit flavors and its tannins, but there also is a cooling vein of acidity that makes the difference. The alcohol feels integrated and light. If you are hankering for a less massive and less muscular Masseto, this vintage is for you." Wine Advocate
"A rich, powerful version, featuring cherry, strawberry, cedar, coffee and mocha flavors, this red opens up to reveal a polished feel and fine-grained yet muscular tannins on the finish." Wine Spectator
"Beautiful aromas of violets and blackberry with hints of spice. Some sweet tobacco. Full body, yet refined and polished with ultra-fine tannins and a long, long finish. The texture and intensity are exceptional. Fantastic for the vintage." James Suckling
