The grapes for Chiarlo's classic come from various vineyards in southern Asti, in particular from the Podere La Court and Montemareto vineyards in Castelnuovo Calcea, La Serra in Montaldo Scarampi and Costa delle Monache in Agliano. Le Orme is the prototype of a young, fresh red with a clean fruit flavour of plum and blackberry. On the palate, the wine is flavoured with high-toned red cherries and raspberries, framed by elegant and fine tannins with perfect acidity on the finish. In 1963, guided only by his taste and love of wine, he began to devote himself to wine production in his parents' farm and produced the first pure Tocai in 1965. The historic label at the time included the drawing of his fire engine, which he also used to deliver the wine to customers. With the 2019 vintage, the winery recalled these historical roots and resumed the cute drawing on part of its wine labels.

Light straw yellow with greenish shimmer. Fine, not too strong bouquet of exotic fruits, some gooseberry and notes of white flowers. Very good balance on the palate, good volume, drinky and with a nice tension between green fruity and fine spicy notes. A very harmonious Sauvignon that does not score with opulence and directness, but with elegance and finesse. SUPERIORE.DE

Garnet-purple coloured Merlot with a warm scent of crisp plums and ripe blackberries, plus earthy nuances and a hint of clove. Slender but full-bodied on the palate, all components wonderfully harmonised. SUPERIORE.DE

Pinot Gris Stieler is the winery's latest creation and ideally reflects the grape variety, terroir and microclimate. Bright straw yellow in colour. Clear, radiant greenish yellow. In the attractive bouquet aromas of buttercup, apple pie, stone fruits, lemon zest and some nutmeg. Tre Filer is made from the sugary sweet must of overripe (stramature), dried white wine grapes and matures for a year in oak barrels. A wonderful sweet wine: grapey in aroma, with notes of apple, honey and apricots, fascinating - an almost hypnotic sweetness that enchants the palate. Prinsipi from the small vineyard parcel of the same name was once developed by son Fabio as a 100 per cent Chardonnay and "little brother" of Bastia, but now 10 per cent Manzoni Bianco is added, which gives it more freshness and lightness. What also distinguishes it from the famous Chardonnay is the ageing in stainless steel. A fresh, crisp and very drinkable white wine that cuts a fine figure not only on its own and is now a firm favourite in the (now also organic) range. SUPERIORE.DE

A spectacular steep slope rises above the north-western shore of Lake Kaltern, one of the best vineyards in the area. Classic and Demeter-certified Vernatsch from South Tyrol: Pronounced, very fruity aroma of red berries and cherries. "From the Lageder family’s 8ha Römigberg estate above Lake Caldaro, where pergola-trained Schiava grapes are farmed biodynamically. The fruit is fermented partly in large wooden barrels, partly in stainless steel, and with some extended skin contact. A pale bright garnet colour, the nose is rosy and smoky with notes of pomegranate and cranberry over intense, spicy notes of cinnamon and clove. It has a juicy, ripe and supple palate yet with underlying firmness and good balance with lovely acidity, finishing with notes of plum and woodsmoke. Delicious." Decanter
