The history of the Podere Il Carnasciale almost sounds like a fairy tale. Located between the Apennines and the Chianti-Classico region in Mercatale Valdarno, a town in the province of Arezzo, the farm has revived a largely unknown grape variety. The agronomist Remigio Bordini discovered about 50 years ago in the Colli Euganei near Padua in an old vineyard a vine that turned out to be a natural cross of Cabernet Franc and Merlot. So he called her Caberlot. The German advertising expert Wolf Rogosky met Bordini and the oenologist Vittorio Fiore, and the decision matured to produce a delicious wine from this rarity. Since the 1988 vintage, the Caberlot is the unrivalled size in the country estate acquired by the Rogosky family in 1972 with the intention of creating something special.
Bettina Rogosky mentions three important success factors for the Caberlot: the diverse characteristics of the vine, the terroir, as well as the work carried out exclusively by hand and characterized by few technical interventions in the three own plots. And Antonio Galloni enthuses and states: "Over the years, Il Carnasciale has acquired cult status among readers who yearn for the finest drops that Tuscany has to offer – right! This is where some of Italy’s most unique wines are produced."
