“Castello di Brolio” Chianti Classico Gran Selezione DOCG 2020 · MAGNUM in OWC
Ricasoli's classic is now made from 100% Sangiovese. The grapes come from a south-facing plot at an ideal altitude of 250 to 450 metres above sea level. Castello di Brolio Gran Selezione is a wonderful wine with great richness and depth. It has an intense bouquet of small red berries, violets and spices. The flavour reveals precision, structure and freshness. The tannin and acidity are well-balanced and promise a long life and an interesting ageing period. SUPERIORE.DE
"A great Castello di Brolio. Red and blue berries, forest air, pine needles and brook mint, complex. Floats on the tongue with silky, polished tannins, again cherries and blackberries, finely structured and highly elegant, animating freshness and juicy length." Weinwisser
"Bright, medium ruby red with garnet-red reflections. Intense aroma of juicy cherries, orange peel, tobacco leaves and light spices of cinnamon and vanilla. Very elegant on the palate, with beautiful fruit flavours and well-integrated tannins as well as an exciting and persistent final." Falstaff
"Deep carmine red colour. Quite a complex nose. Racy with flavours of tea leaves and good freshness. Good bite. A real, refined Chianti Classico." Jancis Robinson
"This lively red wine shows telltale Sangiovese notes of iron, red chalk and tobacco that fade into a core of cherry and raspberry. It becomes smoother and more focused on the finish, where the fruit, minerals and savoury elements come together." Wine Spectator
"Autumnal aromas of baking spices and the taste of a freshly brewed cup of coffee are balanced by a sweet cherry vanilla biscuit and a peppery note. The cherry brightens the palate, with spice sustained by herbal and stony undertones. Bright acidity plays around firm tannins." Wine Enthusiast
"The Barone Ricasoli 2020 Chianti Classico Gran Selezione Castello di Brolio is one of the winery's most important and successful bottles. It is full-bodied and rich with warm, vintage flavours of blackberries, juicy cherries, spices and soft earth. It is aged for 22 months in tonneaux, of which only 30% is new oak, but this is more than enough to give this full-bodied Sangiovese spicy tones, soft tannins and a rich structure." Wine Advocate
"Complex bouquet of forest fruits, black pepper and tobacco; has flesh, fullness, skilfully balanced tannins and acidity, long finish. Convinces with its charismatic style." Vinum
"Castello di Brolio is the flagship of the winery and combines Sangiovese from higher-lying vineyards near the castle, planted on the three main soil types found here: Macigno (sandstone), Galestro and Alberese. This 2020 has a balsamic bouquet that is accompanied in the mouth by a rich concentration of flavoursome, tangy red and black fruits and wonderfully silky tannins. Structured enough to age well, but soft and approachable enough to enjoy immediately, it's a great all-rounder." Decanter
"Bright and floral on the nose, with orange blossom and vibrant sliced cherry character. Medium-bodied, with ultra-fine tannins that are supple and gentle. Beautiful aftertaste of cooked peach pie and cherry. Delicious now, but even better in 2028." James Suckling
"Pure Sangiovese from three vineyards around the castle, an expression of three different soils. Black cherry on the nose, with notes of eucalyptus and cinnamon. Spicy tannins on the palate, dense, persistent with a balsamic finish." Luca Gardini

Barolo “Cascina Nuova” DOCG 2020 · MAGNUM in OWC
Bright ruby-garnet colour. Smooth and expressive on the palate, with sweet red cherries, blood orange, mint, wild flowers, cedar wood, sweet tobacco and aniseed. Very fine tannins on the palate, spicy, delicate and at the same time very rich and clear, with a long, balsamic final. Every year, Cascina Nuova is a prime example of how excellent Barolos can be produced at moderate prices. SUPERIORE.DE
"Inviting bouquet of forest fruits and flowers, fine spice; compact in the mouth and yet powerful, the tannins and acidity in balance, dark berry-spicy finish. Excellent food companion." Vinum
"Bright garnet with ruby red reflections. Opens slowly, but then smoky on wild berries, black plum, a hint of undergrowth. Great tension on the palate, with precise fruit, invigorating acidity, tightly woven tannins, elegant, very long finish." Falstaff
"Shiny and just medium ruby red in colour. Dusty, mineral and slowly opening up to subtle cherry. With plenty of air, vigour and vitality. Long, elegant cherry flavours, which are surrounded by supple acidity and long tannins that cling to the palate. Characteristic elegance. A high-flyer." Jancis Robinson
"The Elvio Cogno 2020 Barolo Cascina Nuova has a hint of smoke and barrel with lots of red fruits, redcurrants and cherries. There's an earthy element that combines well with the oak, and there's a tart or crisp side to the fruit that finishes with grippy tannins." Wine Advocate
"This wine is supple and complex, offering aromas and flavours of cherries, strawberries, summer meadows, earth, leather and iron. It is firmly structured and picks up hints of liquorice on the lingering finish, with the tannins solid but civilised. Shows good potential." Wine Spectator
"Extremely perfumed with strawberries and forest floor with some sandalwood, roses and candied watermelon. It is medium-bodied with ultra-fine tannins that are powerful and solid. Very persistent finish. Powerful on the finish. Classic Barolo character." James Suckling
"Freshness and juiciness for a wine of great drinkability. Red mulberry on the nose, with hints of geranium and blood orange, rounded off with a hint of eucalyptus. Spicy on the palate, with citrus and balsamic nuances. It ends with floral memories." Luca Gardini

Barolo “Ornato” DOCG 2018
Barolo Ornato is a great wine every year. It captures the true character of Serralunga with its wild herbs, minerals and ferruginous notes. Its bouquet shows small berry fruits and cassis, framed by gravel, forest floor, blue flowers and candied orange peel. The wine also has a dusty, mineral note and is intense on both the nose and palate. Ornato sets in with finely integrated tannins and an acidity that sustains all these fruit flavours. A wine that is consistently vertical, straightforward and frontal. SUPERIORE.DE
"Wonderfully fragrant, subtle bouquet with notes of freshly pressed pomegranate, redcurrant and heart cherries, again some blood orange. More elegant, clearly more compact and multi-layered palate than the two predecessors, simply has more density and power, but remains elegant and enormously juicy, immensely polished tannin, absolutely coherent, shows ripe fruit, fine melting." Weinwisser
"Medium ruby red with orange reflections. Beautiful, open and ripe cherry aroma with minerals and a hint of liquorice and lots of depth. Generous, supple fruit with gripping tannins that form a real unit. Great length with lots of powdery tannins, juice and grip. Simply irresistible, but might be too austere for most palates at the moment." Jancis Robinson
"The 2018 Barolo Ornato reveals some very distant hot season aromas, vaguely reminiscent of dried raspberries or stewed plums. The Nebbiolo is very sensitive to the warmer temperatures and even a hint of extra ripeness is easy to detect. However, the wine is fluid and constantly evolving. The fruit-driven aromas soon turn into a brooding complexity with smoke, tar and liquorice. The Ornato paints a broad picture of the intensity typical of Serralunga d'Alba." Wine Advocate
"The 2018 Barolo Ornato is sombre, brooding and quite self-contained. There is a lot of aromatic and flavour complexity, but the fruit is very much in the background. It will be interesting to see if the 2018 emerges or if it remains rather compact as it is today. There is a good amount of density and power behind all the tannin. Hints of blood orange, crushed raspberry, rose petal and cinnamon linger on the super classy finish." Vinous
"Spicy, with notes of white pepper, cumin, fennel seed and minerals framing a core of preserved plums and cherries. Dense, viscous and lively, balanced and expressive. It finishes with excellent length and power." Wine Spectator
"Pio Cesare owns most of Ornato, which lies between Briccolina and Falletto. The Serralunga character is particularly typical here, with fruits of wild strawberries and cherries combined with rhubarb and minerality. The attack is silky, with great concentration and savouriness, woven acidity and refined tannins through to the lingering finish." Decanter
"Complex on the nose, with a mix of ripe red berries, nutty minerals, orange peel and spices. Also some spicy, almost meaty notes. Full, compact and intense, but very graceful on the palate thanks to the fine tannins. Very polished and promising. Stylish. Still needs some time. Try it from 2025." James Suckling
"From Cascina Ornato, Pio Cesare's first cru, first produced in 1985, a Barolo of power and structure. On the nose blackcurrant, notes of liquorice and peony. The mouthfeel has spicy, salty tannins and a finish with notes of liquorice and small black fruits. Long lasting." Luca Gardini

Brunello di Montalcino DOCG 2018 · MAGNUM in gift box
Bright ruby red with a light rim. Equally bright and very complex bouquet of wild berries, strawberries, dried fruits, tar and balsamic herbs. On the palate, a very attractive, supple texture, again a beautiful red berry fruit in the drink, plus traces of blackcurrant, blueberry and liquorice. In the long, squeaky clean finish, traces of well-integrated light wood and a very appealing silkiness. SUPERIORE.DE
"Medium to deep ruby red with orange highlights. Brooding but ripe on the nose. Lots of juicy cherry fruit and crisp tannins. A blockbuster, but a finely balanced one." Jancis Robinson
"The 2018 Brunello di Montalcino is rich and haunting dark, with masses of cherry and raspberry sauce giving way to sweet violet flowers. The palate is velvety, with balsamic spice and red and black fruits lifted by cool acidity. It leaves a hint of primary concentration balanced by a touch of sour citrus, and finishes with smooth tannins and a strong power. There's a lot going on here, and it has the ability to age over the medium term." Vinous
"Aromas of fresh raspberries, sour cherries, lemons, walnuts and vanilla beans. It is juicy and flavourful with a medium body and creamy tannins. The tangy fruit transitions into creamy chocolate. Wonderfully drinkable." James Suckling
"A juicy style for the vintage, with aromas of cherries, raspberries, flowers, graphite and spices. Balanced and lively, with bright acidity and refined tannins for support. Shows lovely length." Wine Spectator
"The 2018 Brunello di Montalcino shows dark fruit and oak spice and tends towards the more powerful and voluminous side of the Brunello spectrum. The wine is open-knit and approachable. The finish shows a softer side with polished tannins." Wine Advocate
"The nose begins with a shooting star of sweet candied cherry and vanilla before it burns up and leaves behind a dark, savory sky of coffee, old leather and burnt caramel. The sun rises on the palate, with strawberry and blood orange notes joining the resurgent cherry. Compressed tannins and vigorous acidity provide structure." Wine Enthusiast

“Rancia” Chianti Classico Riserva DOCG 2020 · MAGNUM in OWC
Sparkling, medium-dense ruby-garnet colour. The Rancia Riserva from the single vineyard of the same name is powerful and energetic, expressive and dense. The aroma is characterised by ripe, full-bodied fruit and mineral notes. The flavour is earthy, tannic and terroir-influenced, beautifully articulated, fine and with an enjoyable length. A wine that requires sensitivity and/or a few years of rest. SUPERIORE.DE
"Bright ruby red colour. On the nose, it smells of beautiful precious wood, lightly of coconut flakes, ripe cherries, cranberries and cold smoke. Compact on the palate with tightly woven tannins, beautifully savoury, opens up on the final with warm-hearted fruit, carried by a full-bodied, long finish." Falstaff
"Brilliant medium ruby red colour. Seductive, sophisticated nose of raspberries with oak notes and mineral, stony notes. Almost a little exotic. Juicy raspberry fruit with lots of gravelly tannins. Elegant and long. Undeniably attractive now." Jancis Robinson
"On the nose, small red fruits, redcurrants, then notes of laurel and peony. The mouthfeel is flavoursome, very taut, with a strawberry and juniper berry note that keeps reappearing and an excellent persistence." Luca Gardini
"Intense, with complex flavours of cherries, blackberries, violets, minerals and leafy undergrowth, this red wine is silky and almost racy. Harmonious and persistent, with a long, resonant aftertaste that reflects red fruit, mineral and spicy elements." Wine Spectator
"A sophisticated and very refined Rancia with sweet berries, cedar wood and a hint of chocolate. Medium body. Fresh and concentrated. A little restrained on the finish. It needs two or three years to develop." James Suckling
"The Chianti Classico Riserva Rancia 2020 shows a beautiful minerality with dusty notes of crushed limestone or flint. This is the wine's special signature, which comes into its own particularly well in a warm vintage like this one. The Rancia also offers a superficial quality with red and violet fruit tones. The 2020 vintage shows lovely concentration and richness with wild cherry and plum, but ultimately the wine leaves an elegant mineral finish. The Rancia will need additional bottle ageing." “Vigna San Marcellino” Chianti Classico Gran Selezione DOCG 2018 (BIO) · MAGNUM in OWC
Sparkling ruby red colour. Complex and enveloping bouquet of rich cherry, black forest berries, violets, tobacco, tar, liquorice, incense and smoke in the background. The single-vineyard Chianti Classico San Marcellino has an excellent structure, interwoven with lively, elegant tannins, exemplary harmony and a savoury, slightly salty finish. SUPERIORE.DE
"Impenetrable dark ruby. I can see the vintage with the oak having a bigger impact on the elegant fruit than is normally the case. That is not to say there isn’t plenty of concentrated black fruit contoured by savoury oak and a touch of undergrowth with just a hint of tar. Long, tangy and generous, with fine, sandpapery tannins. Elegant yet with plenty of stuffing, and ready now." Jancis Robinson
"The Chianti Classico Gran Selezione Vigneto San Marcellino 2018 is outstanding. Silky and medium-bodied, the 2018 is a wine with more finesse than power. Dark fruit, coffee, lavender, liquorice, dried herbs and a hint of new oak adorn this exquisite, wonderfully nuanced Gran Selezione. The San Marcellino 2018 is a wine of restraint and understatement." Vinous
"Packed with red berry fruit, sweet spices and mint. Quite full and powerful on the palate and richer than most other 2018s we've tasted." Decanter
"A rich, juicy red wine with aromas and flavours of cherry, raspberry, rose, graphite and earth. Pure, with lively acidity and refined tannins to support it. Balanced and long, with a mineral note on the finish. Sangiovese and Pugnitello." Wine Spectator

Brunello di Montalcino “Poggio al Vento” Riserva DOCG 2016 (BIO)
The Brunello di Montalcino Riserva Poggio al Vento 2016, which comes onto the market seven years after the grape harvest, is a breathtaking wine. It soars to the highest heights in terms of elegance and power. These opposing forces - power and grace - are what characterise this classic vintage. Col d'Orcia has effortlessly captured and immortalised both sides of the continuum. The bouquet displays a long array of aromas, including dried cherries, liquorice, cola, lavender flowers, cured meat and black truffles. The velvety finish is smooth and lingering. A wonderful creation from the top 2016 vintage! SUPERIORE.DE
"Powerful, bright ruby colour with a fine garnet sheen. Memorable nose with notes of plums, some cranberries, dark cherries, very clear. Firm, full-bodied tannins on the palate, opens with a lot of pressure, coated in ripe berry fruit, savoury and profound, subtle earthy notes on the final." Falstaff
"Brilliant, medium to deep ruby red colour with only light orange tones. Some development on the nose, but otherwise still very closed. Supple and concentrated, with fine, tangy acidity and astonishing balance. Finely chiselled tannins and supple, concentrated fruit on the finish. An elegant wine whose 15% alcohol is imperceptible." Jancis Robinson
"The organic Col d'Orcia 2016 Brunello di Montalcino Riserva Poggio al Vento is beautiful, to be honest, with a unique sense of direct power, medium-rich texture and evolved fruit. This Riserva takes us back in time to one of the most successful vintages in Montalcino's history. The bouquet is characterised by dried fruit, rose potpourri and roasted chestnut shells. The tannins are dissolved and the wine ends on a soft, silky note." Wine Advocate
"The nose is primarily spicy, with aromas of old leather, dirt and mixed spices, like a general shop in the old west with cherry and liquorice candy in bins. The palate is more fruit-driven, with notes of cherries and figs mingling with coffee and sambuca flavours to create a subtle hint of spiciness. The tannins and acidity oversee the proceedings without imposing themselves, like a good host at a party." Wine Enthusiast
"The 2016 Brunello di Montalcino Poggio al Vento is a classic wine that takes its time in the glass, slowly gaining depth and nuance: dusty roses and leather give way to dried strawberries, then notes of cedar and spiced blood orange. It is elegant and refined, with polished red berry fruit and a silky texture contrasted by notes of sour orange. A core of lively acidity provides a wonderfully fresh appeal. The finish is long and colourful, but also youthfully structured. A layer of fine tannins holds on to the remnants of redcurrant and spice. Ultimately, the 2016 Poggio al Vento leaves the taster longing for another sip and regretting its incredibly youthful state. It will be many years before we can fully enjoy the depth and complexity it currently harbours, but I hope to be there when that day finally comes." Vinous
"Packed with vibrant cherry, strawberry, rose, mineral and tobacco aromas and flavors, this red is racy and pure, with a superb aftertaste. Defined by its bracing acidity and precise fruit flavors, this still has some tannins to resolve. So youthful and fresh, it feels like this has hardly budged in its evolution." Wine Spectator
"Super classic Brunello from a classic vintage that is now coming onto the market. The fragrance has it all: cherries, flowers, pencil and slight hints of graphite. This is followed by raspberries and black cherries with some sandalwood shavings. You just want to smell it. Clear and transparent. Full-bodied with very fine and incisive tannins that fill the mouth and show great tension and shape. Extremely long and structured. Beautiful now, but it will age for decades to come." Brunello di Montalcino DOCG 2018 · MAGNUM in OWC
Lisini's vineyards are located between Sant'Angelo in Colle and Castelnuovo dell'Abate on the inner edge of the Sesta area and are cleansed by the constant breeze from the Tuscan coast. The stony soils with a significant proportion of limestone and the altitude of over 300 metres help to maintain the freshness of the wines. The 2018 is wonderfully fragrant, almost exotic. Plump red fruits and sweet summer herbs fill the mouth, but instead of being heavy, it is balanced and transparent. The powdery tannins are fine and lead to a long, maritime finish. SUPERIORE.DE
"Deep, shiny ruby red with orange-coloured reflections. Very closed and backward on the nose. Cherry on the palate with a slight hint of dried fruit, but much more convincing than it sounds. Long yet restrained on the finish, with fine-grained tannins that only reveal their complex depth at the very end. Skilfully made, and there is more to come." Jancis Robinson
"Warm, fragrant aromas of red berries and flowers open the round; elegant attack, but also with character, melting and good length. Pleasing with its elegant yet powerful texture." Vinum
"Very classic Sangiovese nose, dark cherries, sour cherry (Marasca), fine wood, very classic style on the palate too, incredibly juicy with fine spice and salty hints, compact but by no means rustic, rather balanced and with a lot of structure. Compact juiciness. Wonderful presence, noble elegance, fantastically integrated acidity and tannins. Beautiful piquancy. Stony and firm style. Long-lasting." Weinwisser
"Like a kid in a sweet shop, it's a pleasure to take in the candy, medicinal cherry, blueberry compote and liquorice aromas of the 2018 Brunello di Montalcino. While the 2018 Brunello di Montalcino is silky and elegant, it is also racy and full of character, as the red and black berries are complemented by notes of cinnamon, cloves and a bitter hint of cocoa. The 2018 finishes powerful and long, but only slightly structured, which suggests a certain amount of ageing, but also that it is showing off all its skills. Almost a minute passes and nuances of violet pastilles and red sweets still linger." Vinous
"Strawberry liqueur with herbal notes on the nose. Juicy and refreshing, modern in style, but promising for the coming years." Decanter
"The 2018 Brunello di Montalcino is a wine of medium volume and intensity with dark fruits, ripe cherries, black plums, spices and sweet floral earth. This theme of sweetness continues on the soft, lightly structured palate. The wine is ready to drink in the short to medium term; the tannins are round and ready, and it finishes with bright acidity." Wine Advocate
"Rich and deep, with base notes of plum and loamy earth balancing the flavours of cherry, hibiscus and eucalyptus. Dense, with muscular tannins and a lively acidity to support it. The long aftertaste is reminiscent of earth and Mediterranean scrub." Wine Spectator
"Dark, bright ruby red colour. Fragrant, inviting nose of ripe wild berries, candle wax, fine spicy tones and some liquorice. On the palate, with pithy tannins that beautifully envelop the clear fruit, balanced and elegant." Falstaff
"Dark fruit aromas stretch across the nose but don't entirely mask hints of vanilla, pencil shavings and a salty, peppery stoniness. On the palate, the vanilla escalates to initially further emphasize the dark fruits, before new undertones of bitter orange and meaty umami elements emerge. Acid zips around dense tannins." Wine Enthusiast
"Sant'Angelo in Colle, a wine of excellent juiciness that expresses Lisini's great craftsmanship. Notes of dogwood, then chinotto and juniper. The palate has juicy tannins, beautiful citrus-olfactory nuances and a fruity return." Luca Gardini

Brunello di Montalcino “Passo del Lume Spento” DOCG 2017
With the 2017 vintage, the third single-vineyard Brunello Le Ragnaies celebrates its debut. Only 3,000 bottles of this wine from Montalcino's highest vineyard will be bottled. The choice of the vineyard, situated over 600 metres above sea level, is also due to climate change, where winemakers are increasingly looking for cooler sites for Sangiovese - and the result is again a Brunello of the absolute special class: on the nose, leather, tobacco, small red berries and a surprisingly fresh, clearly mineral note. The wine, although it appears very graceful and bright, is punchy and long. Its grippy tannins and finely knit acidity underline our impression that this wine still has a long life ahead of it. SUPERIORE.DE
"Lustrous and just mid ruby with orange tinges. Lots of concentration and yet not rich. Deep cherry aroma. Surprisingly high in acidity but melts into the fruit on the finish, which is layered with powdery tannins. Nervy and just escapes being tart, with long perfumed fruit." Jancis Robinson
"The 2017 Brunello di Montalcino Passo del Lume Spento opens with a delicate bouquet of sweet herbs and tobacco, incredibly airy yet spicy and a little exotic, while a hint of mineral grit fills the glass. It is silky smooth and tasty, with a pure presentation of wild berries, enlivened by bright acidity and a salty note. The finish is lean and mineral, with grippy tannins balanced by a hint of sour citrus. The Passo del Lume Spento comes from a vineyard that, according to Riccardo Campinoti, is currently the highest Brunello in the region at 621 metres. It found a very nice balance in the 2017 vintage." Vinous
"From a single vineyard located on a sandstone plateau at an altitude of 621 metres, this first release of Passo del Lume Spento is of particular importance, not only for Le Ragnaie but for the entire region, especially because it coincides with the red-hot 2017 vintage. A harbinger of things to come? It shows fresh aromas of lavender and fennel with warm, fragrant earth and a subtle smoky note. Medium-bodied, crisp and sinewy, it tastes of red berries pressed from rocky soil, accompanied by tangy acidity." Decanter
"Le Ragnaie's Brunello di Montalcino Passo del Lume Spento 2017 draws its fruit from one of the appellation's highest sites, the "Pass of the extinguished lantern", as the wine is called in English. It is part of a general trend that Montalcino winemakers seem to be looking for cooler, higher altitude sites for Sangiovese. This wine proves beyond doubt that altitude is the key to elegance in warm years. This Brunello is particularly bright, powerful and energetic." Wine Advocate

Barolo Ravera “Vigna Elena” Riserva DOCG 2017
Barolo Riserva Ravera Vigna Elena is a beautiful wine from Elvio Cogno and, not surprisingly, as is so often the case, the best from the collection of the family-run winery from Novello. It is aged in large Slavonian oak barrels and produced only in selected vintages. It exudes delicate truffle notes and aromas of wild berries with a hint of exotic spice. The wine is soft, lush and well-structured, and it makes your mouth water. This Barolo shows the power and inner structure of the Ravera Cru and should age beautifully over the next two decades. SUPERIORE.DE
"Just medium ruby red with orange reflections. Still very backward and closed on the nose. Amazing depth and fine mineral notes coming out of the glass. Wonderful richness of cherry fruit, underpinned by long, velvety tannins. Juicy integrated acidity. Perfect balance. Hedonistic without sacrificing elegance." Jancis Robinson
"Needs some aeration, but then aromas of wild berries, pepper and flowers entice, well cushioned by the wood; in the mouth harmonious and yet with race, the tannins promising and well integrated, intense and yet of great elegance the final." Vinum
"The Barolo Riserva Ravera Vigna Elena 2017 is a very beautiful, aromatic wine. Dried cherry, tobacco, cedar, spices and mint give the Vigna Elena its characteristic aromas. The 2017 is a very nice medium-bodied Barolo and very graceful. I imagine it will drink well with minimal ageing." Vinous
"Notes of dried cherries and strawberries, ground spices, ripe orange peel, walnuts and sandalwood. Medium to full-bodied. The tannins are velvety and well integrated with a dusty texture. Complete and balanced with a polished finish." James Suckling
"This is Cogno's top wine, a micro-vinification of the rosé Nebbiolo clone from an even more tightly defined parcel. The 2017 Barolo Riserva Ravera Vigna Elena is a hot-season expression with a broad and rich personality that matches the character of the growing season. In addition to this textural support, this wine is also more approachable and ready to go. Blackberries mingle with liquorice roots, cola and spices." Wine Advocate
"Bright, medium dense garnet red. Finely marked nose with rich notes of raspberry, some pickled peach, fresh plum in the background. Shows very interwoven on the palate, pithy tannin, well integrated as it progresses, has rich pressure, fine spice in the finish, lots of tobacco." Falstaff
"This 2017 shines with its elegance of Parma violets combined with cinnamon spice, an understated soapy rosewater scent and a spicy depth of camphor and subtle balsam. The attack is velvety, full, smooth and refreshing. The palate is dominant, and the finish shows a glycerine layer and lifted acidity with extremely elegant tannins." Decanter
"Supple and with aromas of cherries, raspberries, roses, liquorice and minerals, this Barolo is complex, harmonious and long. The silky texture is as important as all the other elements that make this wine so compelling. Excellent length on the finish." Wine Spectator
"Though it was a very dry year, this vintage still managed to keep its impressive elegance. The wine opens with enticing aromas of wild cherry, fresh and dried roses, incense, wild herbs and savory spice. The palate is an example of thoughtfulness and craft with a core of deep wild berries, black tea, and crushed stones that are all supported by supple tannins and lifted acidity." Wine Enthusiast

Amarone della Valpolicella Classico DOCG 2012
This great wine is only released for sale nine years after the harvest: The slow drying of the fully ripe grapes gives this cru its immense strength and density as well as its extraordinary character with powerful ripeness, fruit fullness, beautiful concentration and great elegance. On the palate, Bertani's Amarone demonstrates freshness, noble lightness and great dynamism. An exciting wine and for decades probably the most classic Amarone - the archetype, so to speak - of the entire appellation. SUPERIORE.DE
"Sparkling, very intense ruby colour. Opens with light mineral notes, followed by preserved cherries and rich red berry fruit, with fine blood orange in the background. Very precise attack and finish, elegant cherry fruit, grippy, dense tannins, opens up in many layers, fine enamel, already easy to drink, very juicy, great development potential." Falstaff
"Medium garnet red colour. There's so much going on here on the nose! Fruit and dried spices. The next time I'm in an Indian restaurant with a good wine list, I want to try an Amarone. Really very complex and exciting. So fresh and clean! Dry finish. So different from the commercial Amarone norm. Really quite exciting." Jancis Robinson
"The 2012 Amarone della Valpolicella Classico takes its time to open up in the glass, slowly evolving with a rich blend of crushed black cherries complemented by dusty purple flowers and exotic spices. The palate is silky smooth but with cooling minerality and vibrant acids that give an energetic feel, while a saturation of red fruits and fine tannins emerge towards the finish. The 2012 finishes lightly textured with an echo of balsamic spice and bitter cocoa notes still lingering - a fantastic and truly harmonious rendition of Bertani's Amarone Classico." Vinous
"This wine is pure in its fruit, earnestness and joy. It opens with aromas of vibrant red plum, macerated red cherries and raspberries followed by cocoa powder, oolong tea and dried violets. Each sniff of the glass brings a new aroma. The wine is earth-driven on the palate, with tobacco and dried red and black fruits blending well with mixed herbs, savory spices and elegant tannins, all leading to a fresh acidity that makes the wine pop on the finish." Wine Enthusiast
"Wow, what a complex bouquet, with a base of dried cherries that is spiced up with a hint of mild coffee and walnuts. There are also dried flowers, wild herbs and spices such as tarragon and cloves. Subtle hints of dried banana and apricot. The palate is full-bodied, very smooth, intense and balanced, with firm, spicy tannins that drive everything forward. Long, long finish. It's nice to taste it now, but this wine, already almost ten years old, will be in your cellar for a long time." James Suckling

Brunello di Montalcino DOCG 2019 · MAGNUM in OWC
Lisini's vineyards are located between Sant'Angelo in Colle and Castelnuovo dell'Abate on the inner edge of the Sesta area and are cleansed by the constant breeze from the Tuscan coast. The stony soils with a significant proportion of limestone and the altitude of over 300 metres help to maintain the freshness of the wines.
Carlo Lisini Baldi's Brunello di Montalcino 2019 opens with dark concentration and extraction. The initial nose reveals floral aromas of pressed roses and violets, then after a few minutes in the glass the wine offers a complex potpourri of dark cherries, dried blackberries, Indian spices, teriyaki sauce, crushed rocks and a subtle note of liquorice. It clearly draws its personality from equal parts elegance and power. Extremely soft and supple on the palate, it delivers beautiful end notes of dusty minerals and some clay alongside its plump fruit. This delicious wine can't help but move forward. SUPERIORE.DE
"After a little aeration, a pleasant, multi-faceted nose of raspberries and flowers, also balsamic nuances; juicy on the palate, the ripe acidity and fine-meshed tannins balanced, fresh and fruity and yet extremely elegant on the finish." Vinum
"Very classic Sangiovese nose, sour cherry (Marasca), dark cherry, very classic style on the palate too, incredibly juicy with fine spice and salty hints, compact and structurally strong, but by no means rustic, rather balanced, with grippy juiciness. Wonderful presence, noble elegance, fantastically integrated acidity and tannins. Beautiful piquancy. Stony and firm style. A long-lasting classic!" Weinwisser
"Bright ruby red with cherry-red reflections. Complex on the nose, cherry, redcurrant, then marjoram and liquorice, with a subtle cocoa butter and mint aftertaste and a renewed emphasis on fruit. Energetic on the palate, good tension and precise progression, polished tannins wrapped in a rich fruit melt, currently still somewhat drying on the finish." Falstaff
"Deep ruby red with orange-coloured reflections. Very deep and still slumbering, with mineral and exotic, dark spicy notes. Increasingly complex with aeration. Smooth, soft cherry fruit, densely packed with fine, chewy tannins. Very long and concentrated and with great potential." Jancis Robinson
"The Lisini 2019 Brunello di Montalcino has a dark and spicy bouquet with plums, cardamom, asphalt and wet stone. The wine is quite developed and for this reason I would not recommend a very long drinking time. Cola and dried rosemary twigs can be recognised in the background. This is a dark Brunello with concentrated fruit to drink in the medium term." Wine Advocate
"A smooth and structured red wine with aromas and flavours of black cherry, cedar and spice. Medium-bodied with fine tannins and a chewy finish. Integrated and supple. Drink it after 2027." James Suckling
"Medicinal blackberries, sweet sage, stone dust and candied orange define the 2019 Brunello di Montalcino, which is juicy and vibrant with purple and lavender-coloured wild berries and chalky mineral tones that build to a saturation of minerality towards the finish. A web of fine-grained tannins lingers as the 2019 finishes long and spotty, but only lightly structured. Hints of salted liquorice linger. This is a stylish Brunello from the southern Montalcino region of Lisini." Vinous
"The 2019 epitomises this warm, lush, exotically fragrant southern part of Montalcino. Ripe strawberries and red roses blend beautifully with chestnuts, iron and sun-kissed earth. The wine has a lush texture, generous body and flavour that exudes fleshy persimmon and ripe strawberries. The palate is dripping with lush acidity, and a mineral drive lifts the core. The sandy tannins are relatively supple without losing their commanding grip, and the wine finishes with crushed allspice." Decanter
"Leafy undergrowth, earth and dusty mineral notes frame the core of cherry and raspberry flavours in this juicy red wine, which is supple and has a layer of chalky tannins on the finish. Overall balanced, with a long, cherry aftertaste." Wine Spectator

Brunello di Montalcino Riserva DOCG 2016
Top Riserva from a great vintage. Dark ruby, sweet fruity plum aroma on the nose, followed by vanilla, fig and chocolate, the taste very dense, concentrated and fruity. A wine of good structure and beautiful balance with a remarkable finish. SUPERIORE.DE
"Mid ruby with narrow bricky rim. Savoury nose with hints of raw meat and cherry. Minerally, salty notes. Lush, layered cherry fruit with polished tannins and lots of juicy acidity on the finish mingling with the concentrated fruit. Youthful but can be approached now." Jancis Robinson
"There’s a real purity of sangiovese fruit here with cherries, orange peel and sandalwood. It’s full-bodied yet so tight and refined as well as structured. Fine tannins lead you down deep into the palate which opens up at the end. Fascinating. Drink in 2024 and onwards." James Suckling
"The Poggio Antico 2016 Brunello di Montalcino Riserva absolutely delivers the goods, especially if you are in the market for a rich and robust expression of Sangiovese with dark fruit, cherry, leather, spice and tar. The finish is smooth and velvety, and although you recognize the structure of the wine, you by no means feel the tannins in any obvious way." Wine Advocate
"This stunning red leads off with a beam of cherry, kirsch and violet flavors, while mineral, tobacco and ash lend accents. Fresh and juicy, with fine harmony and an exceptional aftertaste that echoes the fruit and mineral elements. Its solid structure gives this fine aging potential." Wine Spectator

Barbaresco Bernadot DOCG 2020 (BIO)
Ceretto's single-vineyard Barbaresco Bernadot shows off its elegance and graceful personality. From the fruit of a 4.8-hectare, organically and biodynamically farmed site in Treiso, planted at an altitude of 400 metres above sea level, this pretty Barbaresco develops very specific aromas of wild berries, spices, liquorice and iron rust. These flavours are also essential components of its classic Nebbiolo game on the palate, as is its light and silky texture. Barbaresco Bernadot is very straightforward, delicately flavoured and has a supple personality. SUPERIORE.DE
"Bright ruby-garnet colour with a sparkling core. Rich raspberries and sugared strawberries on the nose, some pomegranate and truffles. On the palate with a red berry centre and a slightly creamy texture, shows a lot of fine-meshed tannin, appears very polished, describes a long arc." Falstaff
"Brilliant, youthful ruby red colour. Serious, still somewhat restrained aroma of cherries and strawberries. Amazing lightness and yet long and concentrated, with long, finely chiselled tannins. Super-elegant and wired at the same time." Jancis Robinson
"Very floral with orange blossom, iron, cedar wood and dried spices. Medium-bodied, firm and slightly slender in the centre of the palate. Firm and racy. Slightly viscous. Needs a few years to mellow." James Suckling
"Broad and expressive, delivering cherry, plum, earth and licorice flavors. Punctuated by lively acidity, this holds together nicely through the expansive finish." Wine Spectator
"Beautiful florality and almost baked cherry candy - cherry drops - on the nose, rose, caramac bar, vanilla, white chocolate and lavender - an infusion of sweet, fruity and floral elements. The palate is statuesque, ripe and massive but so well structured - like crushed velvet with a powdery and also fleshy aspect to the tannins so that they expand and fill the mouth leaving a lingering chalky, powdery saltiness on the tongue and cheeks. Round, rich yet defined and detailed, so much going on but without one element overpowering another, creating a really impressive overall impression. The acidity is wonderful, and there are flecks of cola that add freshness and a savoury note to the wine. The power shows at the end, where the tannins tighten and hold the final flavour, so you know this is a great wine with long ageing potential." Decanter
"The Barbaresco Bernardot 2020 is a top-class Barbaresco from Treiso. Dried cherry, spices, tobacco, leather, incense and cedar adorn this unobtrusive, exquisite Barbaresco. Time in the glass reveals an irresistible inner sweetness and perfume. This is a great wine." Vinous
"The organic Barbaresco Bernadot 2020 offers a darker fruit performance with black cherry and blackcurrant. As with the other wines of this hot and sunny vintage, you can taste the ripeness of the fruit and a certain softness in the background that comes with the territory (and the growing season). The Ceretto team has a skilful hand and you will notice the sharpness and focus of the wine in the mouthfeel." Wine Advocate
"From a plot in Treiso, at an altitude of around 400 metres, raw material that benefits from biodynamic cultivation. On the nose, jammy sour cherries with a hint of peony, nuances of dogwood skin and mentholated notes. Juicy and sweet on the palate, with a fruity and floral finish." Luca Gardini

Brunello di Montalcino DOCG 2018
When the world-famous Oenologist Carlo Ferrini makes his own wine, you can't help but be excited. Here, he has succeeded in creating an interpretation of Sangiovese that brings all his experience from decades of working with this grape variety to the fore as if through a burning glass. The moderate use of wood through ageing in 700-litre tonneaux expresses the clarity and personality of the grape and the unique terroir (there are just 1.5 hectares of the best Brunello sites) in an archetypal way. A great harmony of dark cherries, black fruits, spices, leather and tobacco, ideally integrated tannins and great persistence will quickly make the few thousand bottles a sought-after collector's item. SUPERIORE.DE
"Brilliant, medium-dense ruby-garnet colour. Opens with notes of blood orange, fresh plum, black cherry, some rose petal in the background. Juicy and compact on the attack and on the palate, shows plenty of dense tannins, builds up in layers, dark cherry fruit, savoury pressure on the final." Falstaff
"Medium to deep ruby red colour. Closed nose with a hint of Moroccan leather. Rich, tangy cherry with a hint of oak and polished but firm tannins. Very seductive and with the typical signature of Ferrini - the eternal suave. Long, but not quite open yet, and the tannins still need to dissolve a little into the fruit. Shows real potential and promise and is not uninteresting." Jancis Robinson
"For Carlo Ferrini, who normally advises numerous wineries in Tuscany and beyond, 2018 was a classic year. His Brunello is one of the shooting stars. The wine opens elegantly and full of finesse with red and dark blue fruit as well as a wonderful black cherry flavour and floral nuances. Wonderfully juicy on the palate with a fresh fruit presence. Subtly interwoven with delicate hints and the noble cedar notes of the wooden barrel ageing. Very precise yet intense with good concentration for the vintage and extremely silky, grippy tannins." Weinwisser
"Notes of farmyard, caramel, wood, cedar and toast on the nose. Vibrant sweet strawberry and red berry fruit on the palate, a hint of spiciness, bitterness and a creamy feel from the tannins. I like the gentle saltiness - wet stone and salt gracing the palate, and the sweetness with acidity that keeps everything so buoyant and cheerful. An extremely elegant expression, smooth, balanced and complete." Decanter
"Flavours of black cherries, violets, lavender and orange peel follow through to a medium to full body with ultra-fine tannins that run the length of the wine. So focussed and radiant. Agile and weightless on the finish. Not the greatest Giodo, but beautiful and precise." James Suckling
"Tasted at the Giodo estate in one of the most remote and beautiful areas of the appellation, surrounded by forests and sweeping panoramas, the 2018 Brunello di Montalcino gives us a promising taste of what we can expect from this warm vintage. The wine offers ripe but delicate flavours of cassis and dark cherries with nuances of lilac, violets and crushed limestone. The tannins are present and well integrated. Carlo Ferrini's Brunello promises a long ageing period." Wine Advocate
"The nose brings an umami sanguinity, with notes of tar, petrol and soil, but undertones of black cherries and blackberries make those aromas invigorating rather than harsh. The fruit ripens on the palate, but a slow-developing, spiced earthiness works with deliberate tannins and latent acid to maintain propriety." Wine Enthusiast
"The great project of the Ferrini family from Sant'Angelo in Colle, a Brunello characterised by constant excellence. Intense on the nose, with aromas of cranberry, fresh pepper leaf and blood orange peel, with earthy notes. Spicy sip, fruity and citrusy finish." Luca Gardini

“Vicoregio 36” Chianti Classico Gran Selezione DOCG 2019 · MAGNUM in OWC
Historically, the vineyards of Castello di Fonterutoli are located in the areas of three neighbouring municipalities of Chianti Classico: Castellina in Chianti, Castelnuovo Berardenga and Radda in Chianti. With the 2017 vintage, the Mazzei family has for the first time vinified all three large vineyards separately as Chianti Classico Gran Selezione to reflect the diversity of the terroir: Castello di Fonterutoli, Vicoregio 36 and Badiòla.
Vicoregio 36 is the successor to the ambitious Mix 36 and, since 2017, a true Chianti Classico Gran Selezione. As a result of 50 years of research, 36 biotypes of the Sangiovese grape were planted on a sunny plateau near Castelnuova Berardenga, from which this extremely interesting and independent wine was created a few years ago. The overall impression is very balanced and straightforward with hints of red cherries, spices, dried blueberries and tobacco. It is the warmest and most balanced of the three Gran Selezione wines. Its intensity, richness of colour and precise fruit instantly captivate the Sangiovese lover. SUPERIORE.DE
"Raspberry-scented seducer with floral and herbal notes; flattering on the palate, silky tannin, embedded in fine acidity, ends long and fresh. Pleases with its elegance and no-frills style. Among the best cuts of Viennese beef cuisine." Vinum
"Bright ruby red. In the nose initially marked by rich noble wood, then after blood orange and fresh raspberries, pink roses in the finish. Compact and with clear fruit on the palate, shows itself polished and radiant, pithy, minimal afterdrying in the final." Falstaff
"Deep ruby red with orange reflections. Brooding and with the faintest suggestion of gingerbread and sweet oak. In this youthful state, the palate is similar to that of the Castello di Fonterutoli Gran Selezione of the same vintage, but this is slightly richer and with firmer, if polished, tannins. Enormous length. Monumental and far from finished." Jancis Robinson
"Mazzei's expression of the Vagliagli commune comes from a vineyard planted with 36 different Sangiovese biotypes, the result of 50 years of research. At an altitude of 350 metres, it is the lowest of the winery's three Gran Selezione sites and also the most expansive and supple. It leads with mocha, dried cherry and balsam wood and wears its oak well. The purity of the red berries shows on the palate with toasty flavours. This wine is full yet gracefully structured, with appetisingly integrated acidity." Decanter
"This classy red boasts a core of ripe, juicy plum, cherry and blackberry fruit framed by a subtle touch of new oak and a mineral underpinning. Reveals refined tannins, which should come into the fold over the next five to seven years as this integrates fully. Shows terrific balance and length, with finesse and complexity." Wine Spectator
"This is the third vintage in which this wine has the Gran Selezione designation. The fruit comes from an experimental vineyard at an altitude of 350 metres with compact clay soils (with some stones for loosening), good aeration and a dominant southern exposure. The property is 12.5 hectares and was acquired in 1997. Following the graceful 2018 vintage, the Mazzei 2019 Chianti Classico Gran Selezione Castello di Fonterutoli Vicoregio 36 shows medium-bodied concentration and sweet tannins with plenty of dark fruit, spice, scrub and wild mint." Wine Advocate
"A very straightforward and fine Chianti Classico with crisp cherry fruit and a hint of minerals. Medium body. Crisp and lively finish. Closed and dense on the mid palate." James Suckling

Barbaresco Bernadot DOCG 2019 (BIO)
Ceretto's single-vineyard Barbaresco Bernadot plays up its elegance and graceful personality. From the fruit of a 4.8-hectare, organically and biodynamically farmed site in Treiso, planted at an altitude of 400 metres above sea level, this pretty Barbaresco unfolds very specific aromas of wild berries, spices, liquorice and iron rust. Barbaresco Bernadot is very straightforward, finely spiced and with a supple personality. SUPERIORE.DE
"Sparkling, medium dense ruby garnet. Clearly marked nose with notes of sour cherry, some thyme and coriander seeds. Very precise in attack and course, opens with fine-meshed tannin, builds well, pithy and firm on the final, sweet melting on the final." Falstaff
"Youthful-looking mid ruby. Rather closed on the nose and pure and concentrated fruit on the palate that is still a little embryonic and with firm but truly ripe, complex tannins. The finish is breathtaking, with perfect balance. Simply gorgeous." Jancis Robinson
"Dried herbs, sour cherries, peaches and fresh mushrooms on the nose. Some cedar, too. Succulent and medium-bodied with fine, sleek tannins. Bright and well balanced." James Suckling
"Ceretto planted vines in Bernadot (400 metres above sea level) in 1997 and 1998. The nose shines for its elegant notes of earthy strawberry, fresh violet and a restrained bloody character. The attack is savoury with pomegranate fruit to the fore. It's full and ripe in terms of tannic structure, despite the extraction, with crisp acidity and a dusty finish. A wine full of delicacy but not without structure for the long haul. One to follow." Decanter
"A bright red, delivering a core of cherry and raspberry fruit supported by earth, mineral and wild herbs. Intense, complex and dense, this is solidly built and persists with an aftertaste of dark fruit, mineral and spice." Wine Spectator
"The 2019 Barbaresco Bernardot is dark, fleshy and wonderfully nuanced. Soft contours and silky tannins give the 2019 its racy, super-inviting personality. The Bernardot is usually a potent Barbaresco, but in 2019 it is all finesse, all the way. Rose petal, mint, dried cherry and cinnamon linger in this super-expressive Barbaresco from the Ceretto family." Vinous
"The organic Ceretto 2019 Barbaresco Bernadot shows a broader character and a more open-knit personality compared to the Asili. There is a lot of dark fruit, spice, truffle and earth to frame the medium-build of this elegant wine." Wine Advocate

“Badiòla” Chianti Classico Gran Selezione DOCG 2019 · MAGNUM in OWC
Historically, the vineyards of Castello di Fonterutoli are located in the areas of three neighbouring municipalities of Chianti Classico: Castellina in Chianti, Castelnuovo Berardenga and Radda in Chianti. With the 2017 vintage, the Mazzei family has for the first time vinified all three large vineyards separately as Chianti Classico Gran Selezione to reflect the diversity of the terroir: Castello di Fonterutoli, Vicoregio 36 and Badiòla.
Badiòla is the historic name of a vineyard in the municipality of Radda, whose grapes have been vinified separately as Gran Selezione by the Mazzei family since the 2017 vintage. Bright ruby, a restrained but clear nose of wild berries, blue flowers, undergrowth, and hints of dark pepper. On the palate, Badiòla is masterfully balanced, almost weightless. The very well integrated tannin makes it seem supple from the first to the last glass and impresses with a long finish - its elegance is great! SUPERIORE.DE
"Homely bouquet of wild berries, spices and tobacco; harmonious on the palate, fine-grained tannins, accentuated acidity, stylish finish on notes of maraschino cherries and pepper." Vinum
"Medium ruby red with orange reflections. The most compact of the winery's three Gran Selezioni. Elegant, soft fruit that is less baroque than elegant. Long, tangy finish of raspberries and cherries with supple but long tannins." Jancis Robinson
"A juicy and ripe wine with freshness and brightness for the Radda zone in Chianti Classico. Medium-bodied. Spicy. Orange peel." James Suckling
"The 2019 Chianti Classico Gran Selezione Castello di Fonterutoli Badiòla is a refined and elegant wine with precise aromas of cherry, blackberry, spice, earth and pressed violet. The six-hectare site consists of a mixture of slate Galestro soils and sandstone. The mineral signature is beautiful in this wine." Wine Advocate
"The great Gran Selezione of Mazzei, from three different Sangiovese clones and a mass selection. A wine of great gustatory-olfactory impact, with notes of berry jam, wild mint and gardenia, with iodine sensations. Iodine on the palate too, with a fruity-floral return and flavourful compactness." Barolo Mosconi DOCG 2019
A few years ago, Pio Boffa, who has sadly since passed away, bought himself a "small" present for his 60th birthday. Not a new set of golf clubs, a picture to hang in the hall, a holiday for him and his family. No. Just a vineyard called Mosconi in Monforte d'Alba, a region of Piedmont where four generations of the Pio Cesare dynasty were never able to gain a foothold. Originally, the grapes from the 10-hectare vineyard were intended to enhance the quality of his classic Barolo, but after the first barrel samples, Pio Boffa realised unmistakably that this would be at least an equal - albeit stylistically different - counterpart to the hitherto undisputed flagship Ornato.
Mosconi is more light-footed than Ornato, the nose is dominated by red rather than black fruit, with an irresistible liquorice and a juiciness that will immediately put it at the top of the entire appellation. On the palate, it has a precision that is unrivalled; it is less powerful than Ornato, but more elegant and subtle. SUPERIORE.DE
"Bright, shiny ruby-garnet colour. Mysterious nose, initially of cold black tea, then delicate earthy notes, then mint, cinchona bark, then delicate wild berry and raspberry fruit in the second area. Shows a lot of tannin and pressure on the palate, builds up like a pyramid, noble earthy tones on the finish, lingers for a very long time." Falstaff
"Mid-to-deep ruby with orange tinges. Less exalted that the Parusso version but with the same perfumed undertow and with savoury, minerally and oaky hints. Totally seductive palate of succulent, round fruit spiked with gripping tannins." Jancis Robinson
"This red wine with its cherry and raspberry fruit is ripe and lively, with a solid basic structure. It gains depth with notes of iron, liquorice and tar, while a salty note emerges on the long, intense finish. Ripe, with a sense of restraint - a fascinating combination." Wine Spectator
"The 2019 Barolo Mosconi is a great wine from this vineyard. Rich and explosive, the 2019 offers plenty of Mosconi intensity along with the more classic sense of structure that is now a signature of the house. Dark red fruits, sage, blood orange, tobacco and cedar all come through beautifully in this dramatic, full-bodied Barolo." Vinous
"The Pio Cesare 2019 Barolo Mosconi offers the structure and length of a Nebbiolo from Monforte d'Alba. You also get a salty mineral tone or rusty iron framing a core of wild berries and blackcurrants. The Mosconi always strikes me as very straightforward and direct, and this particular sharpness is what I like most about this vintage." Wine Advocate
"Macerated raspberries combine with wild roses and crushed chalk in this evocative wine that captivates from the first sniff. Mixed cherries emerge on the palate, dusted with aniseed, liquorice and savoury herbs, with superfine tannins leading to a long finish that I wish would never end." Wine Enthusiast
"Cru Mosconi, the house's latest acquisition, a perfect snapshot of the Monforte terroir. Dogwood on the nose, with notes of pink grapefruit and clove, in the mouth with iodised tannins, crisp and exciting, beautiful finish." Luca Gardini
"The flavours of blue fruits such as raspberries and blueberries are very pronounced. Liquorice. Crushed stone. Violets. Full-bodied. So noble with ultra-fine tannins that last forever. Wonderful depth with cool and concentrated fruit. A lively and sophisticated wine with power and finesse. A classic." James Suckling

Brunello di Montalcino DOCG 2019 · MAGNUM in OWC
Brilliant, dark ruby colour. Deep bouquet of rich blackberry and cherry flavours with mentholated herbal notes that give it lift, while notes of cedar and clove develop in the glass. On the palate, the wine is a pure silk that slowly lays over the palate, with an admirable density and weight balanced by bright acidity and minerality. This still very young wine is full of potential with a core of dark primary fruit that already offers a good foretaste of the charm of later years. A finely woven tannin structure on the long final. Wonderful ageing potential. SUPERIORE.DE
"Very beautiful, floral bouquet with delicate candied, ripe cherries, lilacs and rose petals. Powerful, juicy in the mouth, spicy-floral frame with rather red berry freshness, beautiful spice and herbal notes, good tension with quite supple, fine-grained tannins." Weinwisser
"Bright ruby red with garnet reflections. Elegant bouquet of sweet cherries, undergrowth, fresh mushrooms, plus some tobacco and saddle leather. Incredibly soft on entry with young but fine tannins, precise fruit, long." Falstaff
"Medium to deep ruby red with orange-coloured reflections. Attractive, firm cherry fruit nose with balsamic, minty oak notes. Lots of supple, tangy cherry with grippy but polished tannins. A seductive whole that can be savoured now but also lasts a long time." Jancis Robinson
"Compact and exciting young red colour with lots of dark fruit and violets as well as subtle spicy and roasted undertones. Creamy and rich on the palate with balanced acidity. Persistent length with flavours of dried herbs on the finish. Needs more time to mellow." James Suckling
"The 2019 Brunello di Montalcino is wild, opening with a savoury burst of spiced orange and clove before settling on black cherry and ashen rock. It feels creamy and seductive, with a wave of rich red fruit flowing easily across the palate, guided by juicy acidity. Tension builds on the finish as salty minerals mingle with edgy tannins, leaving a pleasantly bitter sensation and leaving the mouth wanting more. Although some patience will be required, I expect the 2019 to exceed expectations after only a few years of cellaring." Vinous
"The La Gerla 2019 Brunello di Montalcino has spicy, dried fruit with blackcurrant, pine cones, juniper berries and a hint of medicinal herbs or camphor ash. The oak is clearly evident in the form of fireflies or crushed cloves. On the palate, this Brunello is rather streamlined, and although the tannins are still slightly chalky, they are now almost accessible." Wine Advocate
"One of the company's gems, a Brunello of rare reliability. On the nose, notes of red mulberry, then eucalyptus and cinnamon, with hints of gardenia. The sip is savoury, with a return of balsamic sensations and red mulberry. Closes with floral notes." Luca Gardini

Barolo DOCG 2018 · MAGNUM in OWC
The grapes for the estate's classic Barolo come from the vineyards/communes of Ornato, La Serra, Briccolina in Serralunga d'Alba, Gustava and Garretti in Grinzane Cavour, Roncaglie in La Morra, Ravera in Novello and, from the 2015 vintage, also from Mosconi in Monforte d'Alba. It is more of a traditional, classic Barolo with an exciting bouquet of deep, dark fruit and a pretty potpourri of rose petals, spices, smoke and tar. It is full-bodied and firm on the palate, opening up with a lot of dense tannin, very powerful, with pressure and a full bite on the finish, designed for a long life. SUPERIORE.DE
"Medium, warm red colour; red fruity, caramel, coffee-like, leafy, deep, very inviting; round, fine, then dense, warm tannin, caramel, length, pleasing." Merum
"Even the colour is surprisingly transparent and light-coloured. The entry-level Barolo has an open, attractive bouquet with freshly picked cranberries and redcurrants, persimmon, ripe cherries, playful, shimmering, linear and multi-layered. Rather cool than opulent. Very finely woven on the palate, very elegant and almost floating, a finesse piece for elegance drinkers." Weinwisser
"Clearly fleshy-animalic aroma with red berry and fine vegetal flavours, a little dried herbs, a hint of juniper and dried floral traces. Clear, taut, almost cool, tart and juicy fruit, a little cocoa, coffee and allspice, also juniper tones, present, youthful, yet very fine tannin, some bite, persistent, elegant style, very good, juicy and finely spiced finish. A beauty." Wein-Plus
"Bright, radiant ruby red colour. Delicately spicy on the nose, some cherries and raspberries, with a hint of undergrowth, medium expression overall, yet inviting. Polished on the palate, with velvety tannins, already extremely accessible, drinks excellently, salty and radiant on the final." Falstaff
"Brilliant medium ruby red colour. Balsamic nose that slowly rises from the glass. Hints of garden herbs, brooding cherry and cranberry. Still a little tight on the nose, but more approachable on the palate with ripe, supple fruit and plenty of richness without being heavy. Lots of grainy, flavoursome tannins and a fairly firmly structured, fruit-driven finish." Jancis Robinson
"Classic bright garnet red in the glass, the wine focuses on cherry stones with tar, violets, a little camphor and sweet spices. The attack is firm and crisp, with a brilliant crispness on the palate and grainy tannins that carry through to a slightly austere finish. There's a little lack of flesh - a feature of the 2018 vintage - but this is one of the best Barolo from the village this year." Decanter
"Pio Cesare is on a roll, producing outstanding Barolo vintage after vintage. This wine is of tremendous intensity and beauty, with fragrant layers of pressed flowers, wild berries, vanilla and spice. It boasts a dark, powerful appearance and firm tannins supported by an excellent quality of fruit." Wine Enthusiast
"The Barolo Pio is once again impressive in 2018. Deep, multi-layered and so expressive, the 2018 offers an unusual elegance right from the start. The dark, mentholated aromas and flavours are fascinating. In 2018, the Barolo Pio also offers a certain depth that is rare in wines of this level. All the elements are perfectly balanced. This is a very good vintage for the Pio." Vinous
"The 2018 Barolo opens with ripe aromas of dried plums and tobacco. This vintage lacks some of the complexity of a cooler growing season, but the results are anything but monochromatic. Those tobacco flavours recede to cedar, earth, forest floor and a hint of shaved truffle." Wine Advocate
"Aromas of spicy red cherries on a loamy base, along with savoury notes of forest floor and walnut shells. Also some orange peel. Full-bodied with very fine, firm and silky tannins and lots of long, concentrated fruit and spice flavours. Good structure for 2018, best from 2024." James Suckling

Brunello di Montalcino DOCG 2018 · MAGNUM in OWC
Cherry accentuated bouquet with hints of violet blossoms, clove, cigar box and a pleasant spicy sweetness. Dense and expressive on the palate, it opens vibrantly and multilayered and then reveals a beautiful load of black cherry, exotic spices and a fine salty vein. The perfectly balanced tannin always provides the necessary balance and gives it a racy, very long finish with its exceedingly refined flavour components. SUPERIORE.DE
"Medium to deep ruby red. Perfumed, spicy nose with mineral notes. Fine polished fruit that is really fresh. Long, grainy tannins. Lush and fresh at the same time." Jancis Robinson
"The Castiglion del Bosco 2018 Brunello di Montalcino is robust and powerful from the start, showing broad shoulders and plenty of muscle. But at the end of the day, the wine's concentration remains on the medium to medium-bodied side of the spectrum. It remains firmly within the confines of Sangiovese. Dark fruits and blackcurrants segue into savoury notes of toasted spices, black olives, earth and rusty nails." Wine Advocate
"In the far northwest of Montalcino, the sprawling Castiglion del Bosco estate stretches over several hills of varying heights, exposures and textures. From 42 hectares dedicated to Brunello comes this impressive production. The 2018 does not explode with its fragrance, but slowly unfolds its floral aromas. These reach a crescendo on the palate, melding seamlessly with joyful, pure pomegranate and cherry flavours. The supple tannins have a velvety texture. Unrestrained and fluid, it's hard to resist now." Decanter
"Ripe berries and hints of red liquorice and herbs on the nose, medium-bodied on the palate with fine, tightly packed tannins and a taut finish for now. Give it two years to relax a little. Taste from 2025." James Suckling
"The nose puts cherries front and center, intertwined with roses with heavier tar and graphite, before umami flavors of mushroom, balsamic vinegar, seaweed and soy slowly emerge. On the chalky palate, dark chocolate pushes up against the showboating cherries before a kick of spice sets up a long, energetic finish." Wine Enthusiast
"Exuding a dusty blend of cedar spice, mentholated herbs, rose petals and sour cherry, the 2018 Brunello di Montalcino feels round and supple, with floral red and black fruits complemented by a subtle hint of sweet spice. The palate leaves a bitter aftertaste of sour berries, while a touch of residual acidity gives the wine a pleasing freshness and a gentle tannin slowly retreats. The 2018 has improved every time I've tasted it over the past five months, and it now shows the robustness of northwestern Montalcino Sangiovese, but in a wonderfully balanced way." Vinous
"Rich at the start, with a touch of glycerine in the texture before civilised tannins take over on the finish. It offers notes of plum, cherry, earth, tobacco and iron that come through, with a firm grip of tannins on the finish." Wine Spectator
"From a parcel of the Capanna vineyard, one of the most accomplished expressions of the winery run by managing director Simone Pallesi. Pomegranate notes on the nose, with balsamic nuances of eucalyptus and rhubarb. Salty, juicy tannins on the palate, fruity-balsamic finish." Luca Gardini

“TAL 1908” Lagrein/Cabernet (Riserva) Alto Adige DOC 2020 · 0,75l in OWC
1908 is the year in which the Gries winery was founded. The history of the winery is closely linked to three rivers, but it is the Talvera that has shaped it the most. Bolzano is not called the city of Talvera for nothing. The old floodplains have given the winegrowers very special soils. These alluvial soils on porphyry provide the ideal basis for Lagrein in particular, but also for Cabernet and Merlot. With its good water permeability and mineral deposits, Bolzano's volcanic porphyry has always been one of the keys to wines full of character.
The idea behind this red wine cuvée is an uncompromising composition of three wines carefully selected from single vineyards in the Bolzano basin, cooled by the winds from the Sarntal valley and selected vines that are up to 50 years old and, as with all of the cooperative's top products, are subject to strict yield regulation. At the same time, nothing is left to chance in the cellar: TAL 1908 matures for 12 months in small oak barrels (French barriques) and then for 15 months in concrete vats, whose fine pores allow air to enter, before finally acquiring its final finesse in the bottle. Adherence to these strict principles in the vineyard and in the cellar is a prerequisite for the richness and uniqueness of the flavour. The Cuvée TAL 1908 is not a matter of logic - it must be savoured with all the senses. 2,999 numbered bottles were bottled.
Deep garnet red colour. A symphony of ripe fruit on the nose, in particular aromas of raspberries, redcurrants and blackberries, with light notes of pepper and cloves, combined with hints of cocoa, graphite and liquorice in the depths. A highly complex harmony on the palate, consisting of soft finesse, mineral freshness and framed by wonderfully proportioned acidity. As the wine progresses, various layers open up to create a highly complex and long-lasting pleasure experience. SUPERIORE.DE
"On the nose, it immediately exudes the generosity of Lagrein with ripe black berry fruit, ripe blackberries, cloves, dark chocolate and coffee beans. Very concentrated in the mouth, almost opulent, powerful structure, again with notes of ripe blackberries, dark chocolate and sweet, velvety tannins. Very full and rich, but again has excellent taber much contrasting freshness. A perfect wine for the upcoming cold season to warm you up, certainly ideal with game, goulash and stews." Weinwisser
"Sparkling, impenetrable ruby colour with a violet core. Clear and memorable nose, showing notes of dark plum and cherry, spicy wild blueberry, plus fine nuances of mint and cardamom. Lots of juicy berry fruit on the palate, opens up with fine-meshed tannins, spans a wide arc, very nice drinking flow." Falstaff
"Strange combinations, but it works. Deep black violet-crimson colour. Concentrated blackberry and blueberry nose with creamy hints. Really gains depth with air. Juicy, cool dark fruit with velvety tannins. Very simple and easy to drink, but probably needs another year for the oak to fully integrate." Jancis Robinson

The Piero selection was created as a tribute to the work of Pierluigi Talenti, who has selected and worked the Sangiovese with passion over the years. A 1.95 hectare vineyard near the centre of the winery, with unique pedoclimatic characteristics, is distinguished from all other vineyards by its consistent quality. The gently sloping terrain is surrounded by woods rich in marl, with a south-eastern exposure at an altitude of 410 metres above sea level, where Pierluigi followed and cultivated his personal clonal selection in the 1970s. It is a wine with intense and persistent character, ruby colour, fine and elegant tannins. After ageing in tonneaux for at least 24 months, it is bottled until it is released to the market. SUPERIORE.DE
"Medium intensity, warm red; red fruity, subtly spicy, caramel; round approach, fruit deep, nice tannin, pronounced length, very nice." (JLF) Merum
"Needs some aeration, but then aromas of wild berries and flowers, well cushioned by the wood, entice; juicy, fresh, full of race, the tannins robust and well integrated, intense and yet of great elegance the final." Vinum
"The bouquet is incredibly finely woven and complex, noble in its own way. Very sweet cherries, strawberries and wild berries, behind them a lot of Mediterranean herbal spice, plus fine floral notes. Wide and deep in the mouth with sweet-juicy tannins and fantastic freshness, because the ethereal notes are just wonderfully lingering and keep the wine quite long and spicy-fresh until the final. Delightful!" Weinwisser
"Tart, firm, somewhat dried-vegetable, fleshy and slightly tarry aroma of mixed berries with a hint of plums, tarragon, nutty aromas, a hint of leaves, pepper and iodine. Almost cool, juicy, quite taut fruit with acid bite and present, yet relatively fine tannins, herbal spice on the palate, nutty hints, a touch of chocolate, a little peppery ethereal tones in the background, smoky nuances, capers, rosemary and salt, some depth, still undeveloped, very good, taut finish, again with bite and ethereal spice." Wein-Plus
"Bright ruby-garnet, sparkling. Classic nose with notes of ripe dark cherries, plus plum, some blood orange and cardamom. Moves along quietly and richly, showing lots of present, ripe fruit, fine-meshed tannin, juicy and long finish." Falstaff
"Deep ruby red with brick coloured rim. Brooding sweet and sour cherry with hints of cinnamon sticks. Lush sour cherry on the palate with lots of finely ground but firm tannins. Great balance, substance and length, with decent oak management." Jancis Robinson
"Pretty hazelnut, dried flower and chocolate notes in the raspberries and ripe cherries. Medium-bodied, deliciously open and juicy, framed by taut tannins, with excellent drinkability. Fresh and balanced on the finish with tension." James Suckling
"The 2018 Brunello di Montalcino Piero has more textural richness compared to the Brunello annata. This extra intensity is used in all the right places, both in terms of aromas and mouthfeel with extra stuffing here and aromatic accents there. The bouquet is infused with dark fruits, spices and grilled herbs. Like the Brunello annata, this wine has an accessible, medium-term drinking window in this vintage. Production of Piero is limited to 4,000 bottles and the grapes come from a two-hectare site at a cool 400 metres above sea level." Wine Advocate
"While less expressive than Talenti's classic Brunello, the Piero is by no means austere, and the 2018 may be my favourite vintage of this single-vineyard selection to date. It presents a beautiful purity of wild wild berry aromas lifted by mint, lavender and fennel, while blood orange and cocoa resound on the palate. Aged in 500 LitersFrench oak barrels - 30% of which are new - the wood has digested well, giving it a well-built, polished frame that doesn't overpower the fruit. A sneaky concentration and crisp acidity balance it all out." Decanter
"One of the standout wines of the vintage, the 2018 Brunello di Montalcino Piero starts dark and restrained in the glass, slowly coming to life with an array of dusty roses, dried strawberries, crushed plums, smoke and hints of fresh mint. The palate is velvety smooth and powerful, with admirable weight for the vintage, but also finesse as the wild berry fruit is supported by a core of vibrant acidity and violet flowers emerge towards the finish. The 2018 finishes with a bitter aftertaste of sour citrus and tart currants, but retains its fresh personality as grippy tannins linger on the palate and hints of lavender slowly fade." Vinous
"This juicy red wine features bright cherry and raspberry aromas that combine with thyme, mint and floral notes on the finish. Complex and lively, with a fine length in the refined, mineral aftertaste. Very elegant and long." Wine Spectator
"The nose is a coastal manor house, where the untamed sea air persistently intrudes on the domesticated aromas of vanilla and leather. The palate turns fruitier, with notes of cherry and strawberry, before salted dark chocolate explodes into a kaleidoscope of oranges on the finish, which is emphasized by strong tannins and acidity." Wine Enthusiast
"A beautiful project overseen by Riccardo and dedicated in memory of the progenitor Pierluigi. Fine nose, notes of red mulberry, citrus thyme and a hint of orange peel. Juicy-juicy, with a finish of fruity-citrus notes." Luca Gardini
