Brunello di Montalcino DOCG 2016
Fine, silky tannins frame a core of crushed berries, flowers, liquorice and new leather. The wine's inner extract sweetness reveals itself only with time of aeration, adding harmony and class. Already today, a super-elegant and at the same time refined and open Brunello presents itself, which always remains graceful and fresh at the same time, despite all its fruit fullness. Our perspective: With increasing bottle maturity, the drinking pleasure of this first-class Sangiovese increases even more! SUPERIORE.DE
"Mid ruby. Deep savoury cherry nose with hints of pine. Racy cherry fruit on the palate with fine coating tannins. Long, vibrant and concentrated. Gorgeous length and freshness." Jancis Robinson
"Ripe, sweet plum, cherry and blackberry flavors are complemented by iron and tobacco accents in this suave red. Shows fine balance and texture, with well-integrated tannins and acidity and a long, mouthwatering finish." Wine Spectator
"A debut on the Place this year from a vintage hailed as one of the best in the last decade. Grapes come from a 30-hectare vineyard bought in 2017 by Belgian businessman Marcel van Poecke who has invested heavily in replantings and new cellar facilities. The texture and overall feel here are lovely - powerful and succulent bramble fruits fill the palate, gliding across the tongue while coffee grounds and dried herbs settle in the background giving structure and definition. This has an aerial quality with real finesse." Decanter
"This is so aromatic and floral with cedar, dried roses, and black cherries. It’s full-bodied, yet so refined and tight with silky tannins and a flavorful finish. Tight and focused. Needs time to open, but shows beautiful finesse and focus." James Suckling
"The 2016 Brunello di Montalcino offers a pure and classic expression of the vintage with bright fruit tones, wild cherry, toasted nut, blue flower and forest floor. Whereas the other wines in the Poggio Antico portfolio undergo aging in smaller tonneaux, this wine is aged in large Slavonian casks instead. You taste the lift and brightness of the fruit, and it's all quite lovely. Grapes are sourced across a 13-hectare site at a very high 500 meters in elevation. The name of this area is I Poggi, and the soils here are a bit lighter and rockier with both schistous galestro and limestone alberese. I love the delicate approach here, the intensity of those floral aromas, and the silky nature of the mouthfeel. This classic Brunello really stands out." Wine Advocate
"Classic Sangiovese aromas of underbrush, wild berry and new leather mingle with whiffs of camphor. Supremely elegant, the focused palate shows precision and great energy, featuring juicy red cherry, pomegranate, white pepper and black tea set against chiseled, refined tannins. Vibrant acidity keeps it balanced while a salty mineral note lingers on the close. Fantastic showing." Wine Enthusiast

Brunello di Montalcino “Altero” DOCG 2012
A radiant bouquet of blackberries with a hint of leather in the background. Although it has a modern design, this wine from Montalcino is strongly attached to its homeland and gives the acidity typical of Montalcino's high altitudes the main role in its beguilingly generous taste. Attractive, smooth and wonderfully long-lasting! SUPERIORE.DE
"Nuances of red berries, violets and tobacco; compact structure with well integrated tannins, juice and perfectly integrated acidity, rich in finesse and with storage potential. It goes very well with game dishes." Vinum
"A pretty and ripe Brunello with lots of plum and cherry aromas. Full body, soft and chewy tannins and a flavorful finish. Some dustiness within the texture. Dense and enticing." James Suckling
"Youthful ruby. Deep nose of fruit with hints of oak. Ripe, rich cherry fruit with a zesty, tangy core. Real interest and great tactile finish. Still firmly tannic for the moment." Jancis Robinson
"Here's a richly concentrated expression from one of the highest sites in Montalcino. The wine shows excellent balance and suppleness. The 2012 Brunello di Montalcino Altero flaunts the best characteristics of the hot vintage including beautifully saturated color intensity, seamless aromas and good texture richness. On that last point, I feel that the mouthfeel has been positively impacted by oak tannins. Dark cherry and dried blackberry are followed by spice, tar, licorice and grilled rosemary or Mediterranean herb. The wine is youthful and tight but should obtain a more polished approach with a few more years of bottle aging." Wine Advocate

Brunello di Montalcino DOCG 2018
The already very well-balanced and classic 2018 vintage can gain again with Fuligni, because no Riserva was produced. Ruby red with orange reflections. On the nose, after some aeration, ripe morello cherries, violets, roses and lots of Mediterranean scrub. Powerful on the palate, the silky tannins give it elegance and the necessary balance, its complexity comes to the fore with every sip. This very authentic and strongly focused Brunello can be counted among the best of the vintage, its wonderfully balanced proportions and its juiciness will give it further impetus in the coming years. SUPERIORE.DE
"Clear, quite firm, a touch floral aroma of ripe red and also black berries with nutty aromas, a little tobacco, cigar ash, dried herbs and dried meat. Firmly woven, tart and juicy, quite noble fruit, present, fine, youthful tannin, some acid bite, peppery and ethereal herbal nuances on the palate, persistent, good depth, salt in the background, a little cocoa and coffee, complex, still undeveloped but already impressive, has tension and finesse, very good, tight finish with coffee notes and ethereal, also slightly resinous spice." Wein-Plus
"Sparkling, medium dense ruby with a broad garnet rim. Very fragrant and inviting nose, shows lots of fresh fruit, of fresh plum and cherry, fine herbal spice in the background. Compact and present in attack and course, shows itself very balanced and clear, very well integrated tannin, spreads out in long waves, nice juiciness in the drink." Falstaff
"Medium to deep ruby red with orange reflections. There is a kinship with the Rosso 2020 in the oak notes, but here it is a bit more complex and less exotic. Iron, cherry, raspberry with complex oak notes in the background. Cardamom and cumin. A good mouthful of juicy red fruits with fine but persistent tannins. Refreshing, transparent and elegant. Quite amazing balance and lovely bite." Jancis Robinson
"It takes quite a while for the 2018 Brunello di Montalcino to open in the glass. A cloud of white smoke gives way to a sweet-smelling blend of dried roses, sugared cherries and a hint of exotic spices. This is a round and supple 2018 that conveys elegance through its velvety texture, polished ripe red fruits and cascading florals of violets. The 2018 is opulent but also has the acidity to keep it balanced, as it finishes long with classically refined tannins but leaves the palate perfectly poised for another sip. Honestly, it's hard to put this glass down. No Riserva will be produced in 2018, so all the juice has been used to support this open and seductive Brunello." Vinous
"A fine Brunello with aromas and flavours of black cherries, hazelnuts and chocolate. Very perfumed. Medium body with a nice texture and delicious finish. Nice, fine tannins. Not the best structured red wine, but it will improve with age and is a wonderful treat right now." James Suckling
"The Fuligni 2018 Brunello di Montalcino stands out for its supple integration of aromas and the carefully balanced intensity achieved here, which shows verve but also remains very fine and nuanced. The bouquet is multi-layered and reminiscent of wild fruits, cassis, rock gravel, candied oranges and fresh herbs or rosemary. A floral note also emerges, reminiscent of rose or orris root. The tannins are very well integrated and silky. You hardly feel them, and yet the wine has a firm structure throughout." Wine Advocate
"An elegant, juicy red wine with pure cherry and rosehip flavours. Nice balance of fruit, acidity, tannins and texture, with accents of earth, tobacco and wild herbs adding detail. The long finish suggests great potential." Wine Spectator
"Under the direction of Maria Flora Fuligni since 1971, along with her long-time right-hand woman Dr Daniela Perino - now CEO of the winery - Fuligni is one of the denomination's most consistent performers. The 2018 does not disappoint: it embodies the elegance of the vintage. The nose is a captivating synthesis of flowers and earth, exuding pressed violets, lavender and roses with accents of truffle and tobacco. In the mouth, it unfolds with flavour rather than weight or power. Redcurrants and oranges are enhanced by piercing acidity, and the shapely, gorgeously textured tannins are chalky and appropriately cushioned, adding layers and depth. This wine, which is not beyond its capacity, will drink beautifully over the next decade." Decanter
The Fuligni winery offers an "evergreen" at its best with this version of the traditional-style Brunello. Blackcurrant and juniper on the nose, with a hint of pepper leaf on the finish. Salty and taut tannins on the palate, fruity-balsamic return on the finish." Luca Gardini

Barolo “Cerretta” DOCG 2018
Cerretto is a fruit-driven wine of virile, explosive power that shows, among other things, how different the wines of Serralunga can be. Black cherry, plum, sage, menthol and liquorice hit the palate in a firm, tannic Barolo that will require some patience but already presents itself with remarkable freshness, purity and nuance. Cerretta is the embodiment of richness and structure of Serralunga. SUPERIORE.DE
"Just mid ruby with the beginning of orange tinges. Still quite tight and a little closed on the nose with an undertow of soft, perfumed red fruit. Youthful, elegant and juicy red fruit with a firm layer of chewy, lip-smacking tannins that add fireworks to the long finish. Super-elegant and at the same time very structured." Jancis Robinson
"Bright red fruit and a nut-cream note on the nose. Medium-bodied with very fine, firm tannins and a long, intense finish. Solid and focused." James Suckling
"The 2018 Barolo Cerretta is a potent, searing wine, its mid-weight structure notwithstanding. Scorching tannins wrap around a core of dark red/black fruit, gravel, smoke, crushed rocks, menthol, licorice and game. The 2018 is going to need a number of years to come around and for those formidable tannins to soften." Vinous
"The 2018 Barolo Cerretta offers good focus with a sharp and linear style that gives way to forest berry, wild rose, rusty nail and crushed stone. The wine is extremely direct, and that's what sets it apart. In that sense, this wine is faithful to the characteristics of Serralunga d'Alba. The soils of Cerretta see a layer of white marl on the surface and red clay further down; that's where those rusty sensations must come from." Wine Advocate

Barolo “Baudana” DOCG 2018
Barolo Baudana 2018 storms the glass with plenty of energy and intensity. Black cherry fruit, smoke, wild herbs, liquorice and tar form a compelling backdrop of aromas, flavours and textures as this dazzling, powerhouse Barolo opens in the glass. The intense final is accompanied by delicate rose petals, lavender and a subtle mineral-salty vein. Its stable tannin framework awaits a few more years of bottle ageing, as is typically the case with a classic Serralunga Barolo. SUPERIORE.DE
"Beautifully open-knit, minerally red-fruit nose. Notes of strawberries and raspberries. Succulent fruit palate with long chewy tannins. Closes up on the finish. Elegant constitution. Long and youthful. Promising." Jancis Robinson
"Ripe, musty fruit on the nose and palate. Medium-bodied with fine, firm tannins and good drive on the finish." James Suckling
"The Luigi Baudana 2018 Barolo Baudana is a full and generous wine, somewhat surprisingly so considering the understated personality of this vintage. That volume makes this bottle stand out in a crowd of 2018 releases. Dark cherry, plum, spice, rust and crushed flowers make for a soft and readily accessible wine." Wine Advocate
"The 2018 Barolo Baudana offers lovely creaminess and depth in the mid-weight style of the year. Sweet red cherry, blood orange, plum, pomegranate and sweet floral notes all meld together in this racy, inviting Barolo. There's lovely depth and texture throughout. The Baudana is the most forward and immediate of the Baudana Barolos." Vinous
"Rich, exuding cherry, raspberry, plum and floral notes, with iron, tobacco and tar accents lending complexity. Shows terrific balance and depth, with a tightly wound structure that bodes well for future development." Wine Spectator
"Managed since 2009 by the Vajra family, Luigi Baudana's Baudana is fermented in oak then aged in large casks for 32 months. Open-knit with a stunning intensity of pot pourri, wild strawberry, camphor in depth and sweet violet, its graceful style continues on the palate with refined silky tannins - firm and slightly dusty - refreshing acidity and a slightly warming finish. The finish is austere yet full of liquorice elegance, and the woven integration it exhibits will keep this strong for decades. A major success for a vintage of often leaner wines." Decanter

Barbaresco “Pajoré" DOCG 2015
Bright garnet red with copper edge. Here comes the most opulent and friendly Barbaresco of the highly impressive squad of Sottimano's individual vineyards. Lavish scent of black fruits, orange peel, rounded off with a fine nut note. Fine-grained tannin already at an early age envelops the firm structure and reinforces the highly distinctive character - and this is only the beginning: with the years of maturity, Pajoré will have convinced even the last doubter of his monumental charisma and cast a spell over him! SUPERIORE.DE
"Intense ruby garnet with luminous core. Elegant nose of rose petals, plums and some rum pot, in the aftertaste of blackberries. Plucking and salty on the palate, balanced and harmonious from start to finish, especially in the middle very strong, ends long and fruity". Falstaff
"Tasted blind. Dark ruby with narrow bricky rim. Ripe, dark cherry that is a little ethereal but certainly complex. Full, ripe-fruit palate that is not yet as complex as the nose has it, but certainly generous and mouth-filling. Long and tactile finish with bags of grainy tannins matching the rich fruit." Jancis Robinson
"Sleek and linear, with cherry, strawberry, menthol and chalky, stony flavors fused to the muscular tannins. Finishes lean and dry, with a kernel of sweet fruit bound up in the structure. This seems to have already shut down, so forget about it for five years." Wine Spectator
"Intense aroma of cloves, but also rose and earth notes. This rather sophisticated, medium-to full-bodied Barbaresco has bold, dry tannins that are well integrated and a long, dry finish." James Suckling
"Of these various single-vintage releases by Sottimano (including Basarin, Cottá and Fausoni), the 2015 Barbaresco Pajorè is very well integrated and smooth. The tannin management shows an excellent approach, and you don't get the astringency that comes forward in the Basarin. Instead, this expression offers increased focus on the ripe, round and plump fruit of the vintage. Only 5,000 bottles (including magnums) were produced." Wine Advocate
"The 2015 Barbaresco Pajoré is the most potent and brooding of the 2015s. The heft, weight and structure of Pajoré comes through in the 2015, but the flavor profile is similar to that of the other wines. Racy, silky and generous, the 2015 is very much the product of a warm, sunny growing season. The Pajoré will need at least a few years to shed some tannin, but it is very showy, even at this early stage." Antonio Galloni

Brunello di Montalcino DOCG 2019
Argiano recently caused an international sensation with its Brunello 2018, when the renowned Wine Spectator ranked it as the 8th best wine in the world in 2023. It is fermented in cement tanks and matured slowly in oak wood; its fruit comes from a 22-hectare vineyard with limestone marl soils. Now comes the follow-up vintage, and it is not only very promising because it already perfectly reflects the extraordinary Montalcino year 2019 in its own unique way.
Dark yet floral in the glass, with a hint of crushed stone and violet pastilles embellishing the black cherries. Energetic yet silky-smooth on the palate, with cooling minerality and juicy acidity that layers masses of tart wild berries over a core of savoury minerals. The primary fruit is young and agile and the grippy tannins, which envelop the entire palate, guide it into a long, savoury final. SUPERIORE.DE
"Rich, concentrated aroma, dark red fruit, touch of orange peel, earthy, pithy and powerful. Lots of substance in the mouth, juicy structure with pressure and freshness, very complex and wide-ranging, ripe with penetrating freshness and flavour, lingers forever with good structure. Already fun now, but will certainly benefit from further bottle ageing." Weinwisser
"Bright ruby red with cherry-red reflections. Dried berries on the nose, slight hints of coffee grounds and black tea, with a hint of liquorice on the finish. Energetic on the palate, precise acidity and good juiciness, plus creamy fruit, flows along fruit-emphasised, still a little young on the final, good foresight." Falstaff
"Brilliant, deep ruby red with orange-coloured reflections. Powerful, concentrated fruit nose with spicy hints. Lots of tangy fruit and ripe, grainy tannins that form a very good balance. Long, chewy, deep fruit. This wine will develop well over the next few years." Jancis Robinson
"The 2019 is strongly reminiscent of the village and exudes savoury, sweet herbs, rose and bergamot. Generously weighted with juicy strawberries and cherries, it fills the mouth without feeling heavy. Spicy mandarin provides freshness. Long, chalky tannins caress the palate with increasing firmness as it flows confidently across the palate. Rosemary and sage linger on the finish." Decanter
"Crushed ash stones, cloves, dried black cherries, rosemary and balsamic herbs form a spice box as the 2019 Brunello di Montalcino blossoms in the glass. The Brunello di Montalcino is surprisingly fresh and energising, almost juicy, yet refined and focused, with a silky texture that brings out crisp wild berry and orange tones that slowly saturate the palate. The finish is spicy and long, its energy never flagging, with grippy tannins that tug at the cheeks as the liquorice and cranberry notes fade." Vinous
"The Argiano 2019 Brunello di Montalcino is stronger than the previous 2018 and 2017 vintages, thanks to the precision and focus of its fruit flavours in this balanced vintage. It shows ample depth and volume, with sweet cherry and blackberry flavours leading into gently toasted spice and earth. Floral hints of lilac and iris make a brief but incisive appearance. Velvety tannins and a beautifully concentrated, medium-bodied palate ensure good persistence." Wine Advocate
"Delicious flavours of juicy red cherries, strawberries, rose petals and wild bush, along with hints of juniper and ground herbs. Medium-bodied with firm tannins and crisp acidity. Spicy and savoury with a nice balance and finish. Lots of fruit on the finish. Give it more time to develop." James Suckling
"This wine is packed with ripe cherry, plum and raspberry fruit, with floral, mineral, juniper and wild herb accents adding depth and complexity. There's also plenty of energy and structure, providing excellent balance, with a long finish." Wine Spectator
"Red cherry, then notes of wild mint, with a finish on hints of blood-orange peel. Dense-citrusy drinkability, iodized tannins." Luca Gardini

Chianti Classico DOCG 2020 · MAGNUM
Elegant, delicate Chianti Classico and one of the best of its appellation every year: light red colour, aromas of strawberry and elderberry, fresh fruit on the palate, beautifully juicy and balanced, enormously supple in the finish. Possesses polish, elegance and, despite its visually high price, a very good value. SUPERIORE.DE
"Medium, warm red; reductive, somewhat shrubby, subtly fruity; sweetness, juicy, fruity, fluid, also length, drinky, very pleasing." (JLF) Merum
"Intense, bright ruby red colour. Complex nose of mocha, dark chocolate, ripe cherry, forest floor and a touch of leather. Soft and supple on entry, silky tannins with invigorating acidity, very harmonious and long on the finish." Falstaff
"Just medium carmine red. Finely scented, sweet raspberry nose. Beautiful precision on the palate with crushed raspberry fruit and polished, fine tannins." Jancis Robinson
"The Isole e Olena 2020 Chianti Classico opens with a dark ruby red colour and medium concentration. The bouquet offers beautiful fruit flavours with dried cherries and raspberries. These bright base tones fade into gravel and potting soil. This playful entry-level wine finishes with a bright spot of sweet cherry." Wine Advocate
"The 2020 Chianti Classico is a wine of great class. Deep and layered, yet wonderfully translucent, the 2020 is one of the best editions of this wine that I can remember tasting. Macerated dark cherry, kirsch, cedar and pipe tobacco unfold on the nose, but what attracts me most is the textural resonance and sheer power of the wine. The 2020 possesses remarkable depth yet retains the transparency that is so characteristic of it. This is a fabulous performance." Vinous
"This 2020 needs some time to unfold its seductive aroma. A hint of flint, cardamom and pepper gives way to spring flowers and red berries. It has a graceful flow with a lushness and juiciness of raspberries and red plums. Fine, powdery tannins frame it." Decanter
"A complex red, with a core of cherry and strawberry fruit framed by almond, loamy earth and iron notes. Silky yet solidly built, with excellent balance and a long, fruit- and mineral-tinged aftertaste." Wine Spectator
"A Chianti that simply resembles itself. Very multi-faceted nose, notes of blackcurrants and strawberries, then undergrowth, notes of eucalyptus and euphorbia, very balsamic finish. Persistent and exciting on the palate, closing with a fruity return and undergrowth." Luca Gardini

“Petrignano” Chianti Classico DOCG 2020 (BIO) · MAGNUM in OWC
Dievoles Chianti Classico Petrignano is the result of the endeavour to highlight the identity characteristics of particularly suitable vineyards, leading to ever more precise expressions of Sangiovese. Petrignano is the name of a characteristic area with a soil rich in minerals and stones. At an altitude of around 330 metres, rocks protrude from the ground that are typical of the geological formation of Monte Morello. The abundance of stones, the depth of the roots and the low growth of the vines result in an expressive and lush wine from this characteristic and authentic cru site.
Intense ruby red colour. Very appealing bouquet dominated by ripe fruit, cherry and blackberry flavours. Juicy, full and rich on the palate, with flavours of blackberries and ripe fruit. Warm and velvety finish with fine and soft tannins that are very accentuated and interwoven with the fine acidity structure. SUPERIORE.DE
"Brilliant medium ruby red with orange reflections. Lively cherry nose with some signs of development and hints of tobacco leaf and sweet spice. Flavoursome, juicy cherry fruit and crisp tannins. More energetic on the palate than on the nose, and that's where it hits the spot." Jancis Robinson
"Dark forest fruit with an earthy character offers great appeal. High acidity and tannins with very good length." Decanter
"This is a new addition to the Dievole portfolio with a cool retro-style label. The Chianti Classico Petrignano 2020 from organic farming is made from 100% Sangiovese, fermented in cement tulips and aged for 12 months in large oak barrels. The winemaking process is simple and to the point. The results show a vibrant freshness and a beautiful purity of fruit with a concentrated finish." Wine Advocate
"A supple red, imbued with a ray of cherry and strawberry fruit, with a texture that is silky at first, only to be overtaken by firm, dusty tannins. The finish reveals almond, earth and herbal notes that linger for a long time. Give it time for the two halves to come together." Wine Spectator
"A delicious, crisp red with very fine tannins and a lovely, delicate finish. Very tasty and with a creamy texture. Fresh finish." James Suckling
"From soils with a great limestone component, in particular Alberese, a pure Sangiovese with a blackberry aroma, hints of citron thyme and orange zest, then a finish with floral notes. Compact and dense palate, citrus-officinal return." Luca Gardini

Brunello di Montalcino DOCG 2019
Fantastic wine from terrific2019, which embodies the style of the winery just as convincingly as its high-altitude terroir. Fruity aromas of wild cherry, baking spices and savoury herbs characterise its hauntingbouquet. Elegance and fullness in the perfectly contoured flavour, which gives all the components the necessary freedom. One of the best Poggio Antico in a long time: deep, long and multi-faceted - a real beauty! SUPERIORE.DE
"Brilliant ruby red colour. Great, inviting nose of fresh raspberry fruit, some watermelon, red peach and wild strawberries, with elegant hints of mint. Juicy and elegant on the palate, with clear, radiant fruit, full-bodied, with tightly woven, slightly salty tannins, well-integrated alcohol, accessible and easy to drink!" Falstaff
"Dark ruby red with orange reflections. Deep, dramatic balsamic nose with a hint of oak. The palate is very precise without losing concentration. Polished, tangy fruit with a layer of sandy tannins to round it off." Jancis Robinson
"Very fragrant and lively, it combines scents of Mediterranean forest, pine and fresh mint with cooler notes of juniper and pepper. On the palate, it is very smooth and polished, with an almost shiny lustre. It's deliciously full-bodied with layers of ripe, macerated cherries accompanied by chinotto bitters. The tension comes from the tangy acidity rather than the soft tannins. Finishes with cinnamon spice." Decanter
"An explosion of pure cherry fruit bursts from the glass, with notes of iron, tobacco and spice adding complexity. Lively and balanced, with chalky tannins on the long finish." Wine Spectator
"Lots of aromas of bark, mushrooms and wild flowers with crushed cherries. Multi-layered. Medium body with nice acidity and a racy and beautiful finish. Very fine tannins. Lots of energy here." James Suckling
"A deeply savory, almost briny nose of balsamic, seaweed, salt, pepper and black sesame draws just enough sweetness from ripe black cherries. The palate brings more incisive notes of blackberry, along with more salt, more pepper and an emergent earthiness, which, along with symbiotic tannins and acid, create a sensation of easy balance." “Caiarossa” Rosso Toscana IGT 2019 (BIO)
The world-famous Caiarossa is an extremely exciting blend of the varieties Cabernet Franc, Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon, Petit Verdot, Sangiovese, Syrah and Alicante, with the rich and dark fruit aromas of the Cabernet grapes in the foreground. On the nose, a beautiful first wave of dark fruits that never seem too ripe, which greatly benefits the wine's elegance. In the drink very balanced and focused with blackberries, cassis and slight hints of salty or rusty minerals. Caiarossa shows a good degree of elegance, not least because of its fine and taut tannins, and despite its density and complexity, it never seems opulent or even overloaded. SUPERIORE.DE
"Sparkling, rich ruby with a slight violet shimmer. Opens with notes of cold smoke, slightly metallic components, behind that blueberries and cranberries, some pepper. Plucky, sturdy tannin, opens in many layers, fine liquorice notes in the final." Falstaff
"Everything about this wine is seamless. It cannot shake off its French mould, but this goes further than just imitation. Gorgeous nose of oak, black fruit and cassis building a real unity. Velvet-like, cool and supple on the palate and effortlessly elegant while generous too. Stony, mineral fruit on the finish. This vintage comes close to the most prestigious of Bolgheri at a far more advantageous price tag. Caiarossa shines a light on the unjustly unknown terroir of Riparbella. Keep this at least for another year for it to show its potential." Jancis Robinson
"Richly scented plums and black cherries on the nose. Weighty and full in the mouth but smooth and soft, the fine tannins well integrated and supporting the bright strawberry, creamy red cherry and plum fruit flavours. Tannins give a chalky texture to the palate, gently supporting the fruit which has a subtle toasted spice to the finish. I love the acidity, the intensity of the sweet yet full fruit at the beginning, a smoky spiced element to the mid palate and a mineral tinged - wet stone, saline finish. Still feels very youthful." Decanter
"The Caiarossa 2019 is a complex blend featuring Cabernet Franc, Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon, Petit Verdot, Sangiovese, Syrah and Alicante from vineyard sites across this beautiful property in the high hills off the Tuscan coast. This organic and biodynamic wine is full and generous to the palate, yet it never feels heavy or too extracted. The wine is balanced and fresh with thick layers of dark fruit, crushed stone, tobacco and exotic spice." Wine Advocate
"This is an intense, full-bodied yet very well-balanced and polished red with velvety, firm and caressing tannins. Ripe black plums, blueberries, chocolate, mocha, sweet spice and dried lavender. Some oyster shells, too. Layered and full of character. Creamy at the end from the polished tannins." James Suckling

Barolo Coste di Rose DOCG 2020 (BIO)
The latest addition to Vajra's Barolo line-up comes from a 1.5-hectare plot in Coste di Rose, a small MGA (Menzioni Geografiche Aggiuntive) in the Barolo region. This is a steep slope at 310 metres above sea level with a high proportion of sandy soils with good drainage, whose vines and soils are cultivated close to nature. This very accessible Barolo is straightforward, forward and impresses even at a young age with its refreshing candour. A very precise bouquet of cherry, plum, liquorice, spices and menthol, followed by a broad and multi-layered fruity palate with plenty of juice and power, supportive tannins and a full, long, mineral and minty finish. SUPERIORE.DE
"Compared to Bricco delle Viole, Coste di Rose is characterised by sandstone soils at lower altitudes of 340 to 350 metres above sea level. Elegant bouquet with fine red fruit and blue berries, plus smoky and floral tones reminiscent of violets and rose petals. In the mouth, a finely spun, fragrant Barolo with an elegant acidic nerve and juicy fruit sweetness in the finish." Weinwisser
"Sparkling ruby colour with a slight garnet sheen. Clear and memorable, opens with notes of dried roses, then some cloves, plus plenty of plums. Juicy on the palate, shows very good tension, savoury, present, fine-meshed tannins at the core, builds up over a long time." Falstaff
"Truly floral aroma. Very fruity, expressive and flattering. Just a little dry on the finish. Lots of energy." Jancis Robinson
"The 2020 Barolo Coste di Rose is an attractive, medium-bodied wine. Black cherry, lavender, spice, menthol and liquorice are beautifully interwoven. The Coste di Rose is not the most complex Barolo in the range, but it offers plenty of pure appeal in a sensual, open style that can be enjoyed with minimal cellaring time." Vinous
"White pepper, dried roses, berries and minerals on the nose. Very elegant and chalky on the palate with a medium to full body and a linear finish. Pure and powerful." James Suckling
"Coste di Rose is the lowest of the Vajra vineyards and the most recent, 2015, was the first vintage. It is relatively unknown, although it is quite central between Canubi and Brunate. Red-fruited and forward, perhaps with a little less structure, red and blue berries, a hint of lavender and clove and raspberry leaves offer a bright, herbaceous character that lifts the finish." Decanter
"A Barolo of remarkable elegance and complexity. Sublime aromas of mixed wild berries, candied rose petals, cinnamon and whole cloves are accompanied by warm, earthy notes. Tart cherries and cranberries dominate the palate, with woody undertones and chewy tannins that add power without overpowering. Savoury and medicinal herbs linger on the finish, making this wine a captivating expression of this famous cru." Wine Enthusiast
"A beam of fresh cherries and strawberries permeate this graceful red wine, which is carried by a lively structure. Flashes of sun-kissed hay, iron and mint add depth as this wine builds to a lingering finish. Very harmonious, with a chalky sensation in the long, complex aftertaste." Wine Spectator

“Sgarzon” Teroldego Vigneti delle Dolomiti IGT 2019 (BIO) · MAGNUM in gift box
Sgarzon is a single vineyard, barely more than a kilometre from Morei as the crow flies, but here the Noce has deposited more sand in the upper layers of soil, the plot is more open and thus less protected from cold winds. The grapes ripen about a week later. Teroldego Sgarzon is fabulous, delicate and full of richness and energy from the attack to the final. The bouquet - an exciting blend of dark fruits, tobacco, flowers, liquorice, mint and minerals. Very clear, pure and clean on the palate. SUPERIORE.DE
"Deep purple red, very similar to the colour of the 2020, so no indication that it is a year older. The flavour is a little deeper and more intense compared to the 2020, perhaps less delicately aromatic, a little spicier. There's still that dark red fruit character, more dark (but not sweet) cherry, and the floral note is still there, but it's deeper and needs to be found rather than offering itself so freely. The tannins are a little firmer, but still with that superfine grain. There's tension and energy and a sense of life waiting to explode. Gently chewy texture and deliciously fresh on the finish. Juicy. Amazingly long." Jancis Robinson
"The Teroldego Sgarzon 2019 takes its time to open up in the glass, but the wait is worth it, as its bouquet consists of crushed ash stones, blackcurrants and exotic spices. As dark and brooding as its aroma, it is also surprisingly energetic and powerful on the palate. A mixture of piquant acidity and tart wild berries collide and create tension and contrasts. Sweet tannins and minerals hold the senses until the long and dramatic final, promising many more years of development. The 2019 Sgarzon is intense, but also playful. I can't wait to taste this vintage again in a few years." Vinous
"This red wine has an extreme mountain wine personality, expressed in an abundance of wild herb and cranberry flavours, crisp acidity and a taut body. Somehow the generous and slightly juicy tannins blend seamlessly into the wine's lean profile. Long, crisp and mineral finish." James Suckling

“Vigna del Sorbo” Chianti Classico Gran Selezione DOCG 2019 (BIO)
The Vigna del Sorbo vineyard is located directly in front of the winery. The south-west facing vineyard with Galestro soils covers 8 hectares at an altitude of 450 metres. The Riserva was first produced in 1985 and has been labelled Gran Selezione since the 2010 vintage.
Dark ruby red with light red highlights. Deep and initially unfathomable on the nose. But any spirit of discovery will be enchanted when it opens slowly and very balanced with red cherries, redcurrants, earth, sage and liquorice, revealing more facets with each passing minute. Finally, the mouthfeel shows a similar degree of extreme flavour balance with very fine but still young tannins. This medium-bodied structure, coupled with the wine's natural acidity, is an important guarantee of its great longevity. Our clear conclusion: there is not only a lot to discover here, but also to admire. Chapeau! SUPERIORE.DE
"Promising aromas of raspberries and flowers, with subtle notes of pepper; pithy on the palate, perfectly integrated acidity, lots of juice, power, plump tannins, character and a wonderful spicy final on notes of ripe cherries and sandalwood." Vinum
"Dark ruby red colour with a delicately brightening rim. On the nose, pronounced spicy aromas of ripe wild berries, rich Amarena cherries and clear pepper spice, with a leathery aftertaste. Tight-knit and pithy on the palate, spreads out with grip, very juicy, with a subtle salty undertone, powerful and long with plenty of character, still needs some bottle ageing." Falstaff
"Medium to deep ruby red colour. Spicy, mineral, elegant and a little reserved on the nose. Deep, juicy cherry fruit, supported by the right dose of chewy tannins. Very long. Concentrated, lively and relaxed at the same time." Jancis Robinson
"This wine is elegant, with floral, cherry, raspberry and mineral flavours. A hint of earth shines through, while the finish is graceful." Wine Spectator
"The Chianti Classico Gran Selezione Vigna del Sorbo 2019 is a powerful, virile wine with enormous depth and equally impressive tannins. An explosion of dark fruits, herbs, chocolate, menthol and spices flows from the glass. Generous tannins and a hint of rusticity suggest that the 2019 will not be one of the finest Sorbos, but it is a good effort for this year." Vinous
"Vigna del Sorbo lies at an altitude of 400 metres and has the classic Galestro soil of Chianti Classico. The warm, south-west facing vineyard typically produces a powerful, intense wine that requires ageing. The 2019 shows all the wild, penetrating characteristics of this site, but it quickly comes into harmony and reveals its balance and precision. The wood-accentuated notes of smoke and vanilla give way to pressed violets, rosemary and liquorice. Luscious red cherry and dark plum flesh is enveloped by long, layered, chalky tannins. The palate reveals an energetic bar of unwavering acidity that gives the wine a linear feel. Fennel and crushed stone linger on the finish." Decanter
"Usually excellent Sangiovese in purity of great elegance from Fontodi, with the step ahead of a great vintage. Nose of freshness, marasche, with officinal hints of citron thyme, mouth with a nice acidic shoulder, salty tannins, crispiness and incisiveness. Persistent." Luca Gardini
"This iconic wine has a whole new energy as it is now part of an exciting range of potential Gran Selezione wines being made at Fontodi. Two new additions to the portfolio (Pastrolo from cool Lamole and Terrazze San Leonlino from Panzano) help to give greater context to the organic 2019 Chianti Classico Gran Selezione Vigna del Sorbo. This wine naturally benefits from many years of experience and the identity of Vigna del Sorbo is well established. However, soil connoisseurs will be delighted to compare the Vigna del Sorbo from slate-rich Galestro soils with the calcareous alternative from Terrazze San Leonlino. I tend to favour the Vigna del Sorbo because I particularly appreciate the mineral notes of pencil and iron ore that I find so appealing. These dusty notes are rounded off by sweet cherry fruit, plum and spices. Rising alcohol levels can be a problem in sun-drenched Panzano, and the wine team lets the vines grow higher in summer to provide shade and takes other active measures to combat this problem." Brunello di Montalcino DOCG 2019
Castello Romitorio's 2019 Brunello di Montalcino is a classic expression of the 5-star vintage in Montalcino (consortium rating), showing plenty of ripe fruit, minerality, herbal nuances and varietal purity. This wine hits the sweet spot between elegance and power, which is not easy to achieve. It offers a wide range of Sangiovese flavours with wild cherry, forest floor, crushed clove and medicinal herbs, but it also shows a plump density and a velvety texture. Filippo Chia and his team have created a highly attractive Brunello for medium to long drinking. SUPERIORE.DE
"Densely spicy, compact bouquet with dark cherry, tart fruit and spice on the palate; compact, powerful style with a racy finish, very classic, noticeable tannin and grip, beautiful freshness and spice on the final." Weinwisser
"Dark, bright ruby red colour. Ripe cherry, milk chocolate and cold smoke on the nose, roasted almonds and mint on the finish, multi-layered. Lively entry on the palate, precise acidity and fresh fruit, taut and juicy, fine-grained tannins, with grip, persistent and balanced on the finish, with elegant iron tones." Falstaff
"Brilliant ruby red colour. Somewhat spicy and still quite dense on the nose. Compact cherry fruit on the palate with plenty of depth. Adequate concentration with plenty of supple acidity and a core of gravelly tannins. Still needs some time, but is very promising. Beautiful label." Jancis Robinson
"Polished and refined wine with flavours of wild strawberries, dark cherries and violets, rich and full-bodied with balanced, soft acidity. Firm and fine-grained tannins. Energetic. Better after 2027." James Suckling
"The charming 2019 from Romitorio emphasises the juiciness of Sangiovese. It delights with aromas of sweet, damp earth, sage and cocoa. Spacious and airy on the palate, where juicy, citrus-like acidity drives flavours of pomegranate and orange. Elegantly framed by fine, slender tannins. A woody intensity emerges on the finish. A pleasure even at this youthful stage." Decanter
"The 2019 Brunello di Montalcino opens with dried cassis and cranberry, and there is a hint of something floral and fragile, like crushed red rose petals or potpourri. However, the wine also shows a growing momentum, especially as it opens up in the glass and you start to recognise dark spices, cloves, bay leaf and thyme. There's a hint of sweetness in the mid-palate, even some dried raspberry, which makes the wine more approachable overall." Wine Advocate
"The 2019 Brunello di Montalcino is seductively dark and spicy, exuding an earthy blend of crushed stones, savoury herbs, spiced blood oranges and dried cherries in the glass. The palate is spoilt by its soft texture and the deep fruit of wild berries. Lively acidity and mineral tones give it lift, but also depth. The 2019 finishes dramatically long and structured, youthfully withdrawing into itself as orange and rosy floral flavours linger. The house style comes into its own here, emphasised by the radiant fruit of the 2019 vintage." Vinous
"The result of thirty years of research and selection of the most suitable parcels is a compact Brunello with notes of Marasca on the nose, with a hint of wild mint and a touch of soya. In the mouth it is salty and taut, the tannins are perfectly integrated into the body and the finish is long and persistent." Luca Gardini
"Notable for its pure cherry and kirsch aromas and flavors, this red is also stylish and graceful. Rose, wild thyme and stony mineral elements come into play as this develops on the palate. Beautifully integrated, fresh and firm, this glides to a long, resonant aftertaste." Wine Spectator

Brunello di Montalcino DOCG 2019
As every year, the grapes for Riccardo Campinoti's "white label" come from the scattered vineyards of Le Ragnaie, making the wine a precise and classic snapshot of the diverse Montalcino area and the wonderful 2019 vintage: violets and Mediterranean scrub meet wild strawberries, stones and a fascinating earthiness. It also epitomises the vibrancy of Sangiovese, which initially appears medium-bodied and then gains strength as firm, dusty tannins wrap themselves around a tangy core. The finish is energetic and uplifting - an elegantly moulded Brunello with impeccable symmetry and purity of fruit. As with the estate's single-vineyard bottlings, fermentation is spontaneous, maceration lasts 45 to 50 days and ageing takes place in large Slavonian oak barrels. SUPERIORE.DE
"Almost medium ruby red colour. A lively, concentrated nose of fragrant red fruit. A real upgrade on the Rosso, more complex and with great depth without losing its elegance. Juicy, almost racy and pure on the finish with fine tannins that emphasise the fruit." Jancis Robinson
"The sum of the fruit from different plots in cooler and warmer regions reveals the characteristic tautness of Le Ragnaie. Delicately scented, the nose hints at game and then turns to brushwood, rose hips and alpine flowers. The core of cranberries and redcurrants is medium-bodied and firmly anchored. Bright acidity and firm, crisp tannins provide a solid framework." Decanter
"The 2019 Brunello di Montalcino opens slowly in the glass, dusty and floral, with a depth of dark red fruits and exotic spices. It is silky smooth with medium body and lively acidity driving the tart wild berries and mineral tones, while rosy florals race across the palate. It finishes with admirable length and concentration. Crisp tannins frame the experience without slowing down the momentum. The 2019 is a wonderful result of the vintage and the style of the house. Don't let it pass you by." Vinous
"The Brunello di Montalcino 2019 shows delicate aromas of blue flowers, redcurrants, cranberries and floral earth. It has all the basic components of a classic Sangiovese. The fruit comes from the estate's vineyards, which are located at an altitude of 200 to 600 metres above sea level, the highest point of the appellation. The palate is spoilt with baking spices and silky, almost glossy tannins. The mouthfeel is very fine. This is a very Burgundian Brunello." Wine Advocate
"This red features a core of cherry and strawberry fruit, along with leafy underbrush and rosemary accents. Sinewy tannins take over midpalate, vying for attention with the fruit on the lingering, mineral-tinged aftertaste, yet this is elegant and balanced overall." Wine Spectator

Chianti Classico DOCG 2021 · MAGNUM
Elegant, delicate Chianti Classico and one of the best of its appellation every year: light red colour, aromas of strawberry and elderberry, fresh fruit on the palate, beautifully juicy and balanced, enormously supple in the finish. Possesses polish, elegance and, despite its visually high price, a very good value. SUPERIORE.DE
"Brilliant, rich ruby red colour. Clear, inviting nose, opens with redcurrants and ripe blackberries, followed by orange peel with eucalyptus. Juicy and round on the palate, supple, fine-meshed tannins, slightly salty, stimulating to drink, elegant, medium finish." Falstaff
"Brilliant medium to deep ruby red colour. Initially spicy and mineral on the nose, with a shy, brooding fruit underneath. Juicy, tangy cherry fruit in abundance on the palate. Great depth and fantastic, enveloping, almost smooth tannins. Lively." Jancis Robinson
"The Chianti Classico 2021 impresses with its light colour and medium-bodied structure. It has a remarkable textural depth and supportive structure. This is a very beautiful and expressive wine. Dried herbs, mint, spices and crushed red berry fruit are beautifully characterised. Bright acids and floral nuances round out the whole." Vinous
"Complex, balanced and smooth in texture, this red wine has aromas and flavours of cherries, strawberries, rosehips, iron and almonds. Refined, with a lively acidity that defines the delicious finish." Wine Spectator
"Gradually, it reveals characteristic nuances of brushwood, redcurrants, rosehips, strawberries and pepper. On the palate, it is juicy and light-footed, concentrated and with pure and persistent red berry flavours. Taut, integrated tannins provide definition and it finishes with garden-fresh herbs." Decanter
"The Isole e Olena 2021 Chianti Classico is a gently structured and charming wine that is impeccably closed and balanced. It offers excellent value at this price. This wine is packed with bright fruits, wild cherries and blue flowers. It finishes with a touch of refreshing acidity befitting Sangiovese." Wine Advocate
"Super-spicy Chianti that's all about liquorice root, restrained black cherries, fresh violets and fleshy notes. It seems to be a serious effort, with graphite flavours joined by firm, chalky and chewy tannins, crisp acidity and a super-polished finish." James Suckling

Barbaresco “Cottà" DOCG 2018
Bright garnet red with a copper-coloured rim. Fine olfactory cinema of red fruits and sea buckthorn. In addition, forest earth paired with a hint of tobacco and bitter almond. In the glass still young, initially loud tannins, with some air then softer tones and a powerful, lasting final. An elegant, aristocratic wine that leaves a lasting impression not only on the first glass. SUPERIORE.DE
"Brilliant medium ruby red with orange reflections. Concentrated and ripe cherry with hints of cinnamon and Moroccan leather. Generous and concentrated palate with plenty of ripe acidity and very attractive grainy, long and animating tannins." Jancis Robinson
"A mix of ripe plum, black cherry, soy, eucalyptus and iron flavors plumb the depths of this dense red, which is vibrant and balanced, with ironclad tannins exerting influence on the finish." Wine Spectator
"The 2018 Barbaresco Cottá is, as is often the case, one of the more striking wines in the range. It has that extra richness in the mid-palate that is missing from some of the wines in this vintage. The fruit profile leans towards the exotic end of the spectrum. Sweet red cherry, red plum, blood orange, mint, spice cake, kirsch and rose petals fill out the layers, adding a racy flair that is very appealing." Vinous
"The 2018 Barbaresco Cottá is bright and cheerful, with tart cherry and floral aromas that rise quickly and deliberately. The wine's focused approach is exactly what sets it apart. It offers a direct delivery of wild berry fruit, honed and brought into focus by minerals, wild rose and liquorice. With a run of 7,000 bottles, the Cottá vineyard in the village of Neive is truly special." Wine Advocate

Chianti Classico DOCG 2020 (BIO) · MAGNUM in OWC
Chianti Classico by Giovanni Manetti offers a profound, densely woven and still very youthful bouquet of dark and red berries and fine spicy notes. The dry, cherry flavour with long-lasting impressions, well-extracted tannins and the acidity typical of Sangiovese show a clearly recognisable terroir character. Very clear, straightforward, long, always fresh and juicy, with excellent strength and balance. SUPERIORE.DE
"A classic, on the palate it is polished, dense, velvety, with harmonious acidity and spicy again. All in all, the development remains to be seen." Weinwisser
"Youthful ruby red colour. Subtle but seductive bouquet of sweet red fruits with meaty notes and a hint of laurel. Lots of juice on the palate and plenty of grainy but ripe tannins, which harmonise perfectly with the juicy fruit." Jancis Robinson
"Brilliant, medium ruby red colour. Elegant on the nose with notes of coffee, cherry, underlaid with nuances of forest floor. Linear on the palate, with invigorating acidity and a very fine tannin structure, harmonious through to the exceptionally long finish." Falstaff
"The Fontodi 2020 Chianti Classico, a certified organic wine, shows dark fruits and blackberries with earthy notes of gravel, reflecting the slate soils in this area of the appellation." Wine Advocate
"The 2020 version has all the ripe dark fruit and assertive tannins that are so well balanced. Grilled meat, baked earth and thyme flirt with black plum. The youthful juiciness has the energy to carry this wine over the next eight or more years. It finishes with its characteristic bitter liquorice note." Decanter
"The Chianti Classico 2020 offers remarkable tension to balance the natural richness that is so typical of this wine. There is plenty of Panzano intensity, but less opulence than has been the norm in the past. The switch to a larger oak format and bottling four months earlier contribute to this impression. Dark red cherry, leather, spices, rose petals, dried herbs and wild flowers adorn this nuanced Chianti Classico. It will be interesting to see in which direction this bottling develops. I wouldn't open it too young." Vinous
"Rich and velvety, with flavours of black cherries, blackberries, violets and minerals. The wine is driven by lively acidity and supported by well-integrated tannins. Excellent balance and length." Wine Spectator
"Subtle flavours of sliced strawberries and cherries with some orange zest follow through to a medium body with juicy tannins and a bright and tangy finish. This wine has wonderful energy. So good now." James Suckling

Barbaresco “Basarin” DOCG 2018
Do you know the small vineyard Basarin near Neive? A bright ruby garnet awaits you and a wine from a particularly beautiful vintage: on the nose, a cornucopia of aromas of wild sour cherry, herbs, some liquorice and tobacco. Firm and very clearly structured on the palate, muscular and yet with an elegance that never loses control due to its power. Basarin is a highly energetic and precise Nebbiolo that reveals its complexity only with some patience and aeration. The neighbouring terroir Neive shows itself with distinguished elegance and marries harmoniously with the volume and weight typical of the site - and in a depth that only vines over 50 years old can produce. "Mid ruby with orange tinges. Captivating nose of deep perfumed cherry fruit with hints of white pepper and a minty cardamom hint. Supple, concentrated palate with firm but ripe tannins. Long and multi-layered and with plenty of future." Jancis Robinson
"Steeped plum, cherry, eucalyptus, tar and mineral flavors are backed by beefy tannins in this streamlined red. A core of ripe fruit plies the middle, before the tannins exert their grip on the finish. Muscular, yet balanced and long." Wine Spectator
"The 2018 Barbaresco Basarin is a very pretty, classy wine. Dark red cherry, pomegranate, flowers and licorice notes are all nicely lifted. An elegant, supple wine, the Basarin will drink well with minimal cellaring. The purity of the fruit is striking. Readers will find a wine of total elegance and class. This is a stellar showing." Vinous
"Balsamic aromas of camphor mingle with earthy whiffs of forest floor, new leather, cedar and wild berries on this elegant, full-bodied red. The tight, linear palate is delicious and loaded with personality, delivering ripe Morello cherry, mocha, licorice and an earthy note of truffle framed in firm, fine-grained tannins. Fresh acidity keeps it well-balanced." Wine Enthusiast
"The Sottimano 2018 Barbaresco Basarin shows tart cherry fruit and plum backed by lovely layers of crushed mineral, iron ore, spice and crushed flowers. The wine reveals an inner brightness or tartness that tastes terrific next the more nuanced character of the Nebbiolo grape. Basarin shows power and elegance in equal measure, and that is never an easy feat for any winemaker to accomplish. Production is limited to 5,500 bottles." Wine Advocate

Barbaresco “Cottà" DOCG 2019
Bright garnet red with a copper-coloured rim. Fine olfactory cinema of red fruits and sea buckthorn. In addition, forest earth paired with a hint of tobacco and bitter almond. In the glass still young, initially loud tannins, with some air then softer tones and a powerful, lasting final. An elegant, aristocratic wine that leaves a lasting impression not only on the first glass. SUPERIORE.DE
"Mid ruby with orange tinges. Seductive ripe yet cool raspberry nose with just a suggestion of savoury oak. Lively, juicy red fruit with firm chewy tannins that make their presence truly felt, but the elegant, concentrated fruit effortlessly holds up." Jancis Robinson
"Slightly more subdued on first nose, the Sottimano 2019 Barbaresco Cottá is the kind of wine that will deliver its best results when it has had time to flesh out and evolve. You can taste the freshness and the tightness of the primary fruit in this vintage, along with plenty of wild cherry and crushed rose. Spicy oak tones emerge carefully as the wine warms in the glass." Wine Advocate
"The fruit expression of this wine is dark, with black cherry and blackberry flavors that are backed by vivid acidity and mingle with tar and underbrush. Delivers powerful tannins that dominate the finish, though they're not overly astringent. Still, this lacks the harmony of the best at this stage and will require additional time to find its sweet spot." Wine Spectator
"Extremely perfumed and bright, with ripe strawberry, orange peel and white truffle. Some roses, too. Full-bodied with layers of ripe fruit and excellent structure behind. This is a fantastic Barbaresco for the vintage. Muscular and clear, Best after 2025." James Suckling
"The 2019 Barbaresco Cottá shows all the richness and weight this site is capable of. Dark red fruit, rose petal, lavender, blood orange and cedar open nicely in the glass, but ultimately it is the wine's huge mid-palate and fine balance that impress most. The 2019 is a tremendous Cottá. It is also one of the more finessed wines at Sottimano this year. There's plenty of size, but exceptional balance, too." Vinous
"Dark spice, forest floor, rose and new leather aromas shape the nose along with a whiff of wild berry on this fragrant, radiant red. Tightly wound and linear, the focused palate offers red cherry, licorice and toasted nut alongside firm tannins and racy acidity. Austere and elegant, it needs time to fully develop." Wine Enthusiast
"From the historic cru of the house, between Barbaresco and Neive, with plants over 60 years old, nose with hints of raspberry jam, licorice and mint, with touches of juniper. Juicy sip, with savory tannins, finish with officinal and fruity return, of excellent persistence." Luca Gardini

Barbaresco Montestefano Riserva DOCG 2019
Montestefano Riserva is exquisite and harmonious from start to finish. Of the Produttori's nine great Riservas, it is the one that best conceals its tannins, as the fruit is intensely fragrant, rich and seductive. For us, it is a synthesis of Montefico, Ovello and Rabajà. Today, Montestefano gives the impression of being relatively accessible, but it will almost certainly go through a few more stages of closure before it fully opens up. The bouquet surprises us with sheer endless complexity and depth. Its silky, polished tannins give an impression of sensual elegance. Crushed meadow flowers, mint, liquorice and dark red cherries are just some of the notes that envelop the deep, long finish. Fabulous! SUPERIORE.DE
"Spicy and mineral nose. Very appetising and complex." Jancis Robinson
"Restrained, but not boring at first. Very mineral nose with peach peel, orange zest, sweet violets and vermouth-like complexity, firm tannins, medium body, crisp acidity and an extracted but classic finish." James Suckling
"The 2019 Barbaresco Riserva Montestefano is perhaps the most complete of the 2019 Riservas at this stage. It offers fine depth, plenty of tannin and an emerging inner sweetness that holds everything together. The Montestefano is a wine of stature and textural depth and my first favourite in this range." Vinous
"Evocative and aromatic, this red features cherry, rose, white pepper, eucalyptus, iron and tobacco flavors. Firmly built, with dense tannins and a savory finish, this is balanced but needs time." Wine Spectator
"Powerful aromas that start with black raspberries, stewed cherries and a mix of sweet and savoury spices. Subtle floral and herbal notes add to the depth of the nose. The palate is broad and rich, with a generous helping of mixed berry jam with crushed pepper and dried herbs. The tannins are masterful with a refined nature that brings out the soul of Nebbiolo and shows how well this wine will age." Wine Enthusiast

Limitation of 3 articles per customerBarbaresco “Pajoré" DOCG 2019
The Sottimano winery has five vineyard sites, with the Pajorè site near Treiso having the poorest soils of all. These wines are therefore more elegant and ripe. Pajoré is a super-classic, explosive wine, with tremendous depth and character. Although it has a lot of breadth and texture, it remains light on its feet. Lavender, mint, liquorice and purple berry fruit are beguiling and wonderfully vibrant in the glass. Pajorè is a spicy, elegant and sweet Nebbiolo that is fine yet covers the mouth well - and we are always impressed by its lovely salty mouthfeel. SUPERIORE.DE
"The strong site character comes through nicely, the earthy spice paired with juice, velvet and charming fruit can please, the sturdy tannin gives a nice frame." Weinwisser
"Lustrous mid ruby. A concentrated raspberry nose that is a little brooding. With aeration, it opens up and shows fantastic depth of fruit with touches of cinnamon bark. Juicy sweet raspberry fruit and finely ground, chewy tannins vie for attention. Really elegant and still quite youthful, so it needs more time." Jancis Robinson
"The 2019 Barbaresco Pajorè is dense and quite closed in on itself. Then again, that is Pajorè. There's terrific depth and density here, but not quite the power of some recent releases. That's not a bad thing, as the more restrained style allows the nuance to come through. This is an especially refined edition of the Pajorè. Today, the Pajorè is quite compact and a bit of a bruiser, but there's terrific fruit intensity that just needs time to blossom." Vinous
"Plenty of red fruit with cranberry and watermelon undertones. Fresh flowers, too. Full-bodied with tannins that are back-loaded and give you a punch at the end of the palate. The center-palate has bright flavors of strawberry and orange with hints of flowers. Try after 2025." James Suckling
"Truffle, red berry, rose and sandalwood aromas slowly take shape in the glass. Taut and linear, the palate reveals truffle, dried cherry, orange zest and star anise accompanied by fine-grained, rather drying tannins and fresh acidity." Wine Enthusiast
"This Barbaresco displays breadth, providing the framework for macerated cherry, plum, earth, menthol, licorice and tar flavors. Chewy in the end, with freshness and complexity. Be patient." Wine Spectator
"Here's a beautifully elegant and fine expression of Nebbiolo from Treiso. The Sottimano 2019 Barbaresco Pajoré shows an earthy personality with crushed stone and potting soil that frame a pretty core of red and purple fruits. I love the depth and complexity of this wine and the slightly more structured tannins that give this wine power and importance." Wine Advocate
"From vineyard located in Treiso, with plants of 50-60 years, a Barbaresco of great finesse. Strawberry tree on the nose, with notes of eucalyptus and white pepper, closed by hints of wild mint. Palate with iodine-brackish tannins, fruity and mentholated return." Luca Gardini

“Collezione Privata” Chardonnay Toscana IGT 2021
Fragrant bouquet of light blossoms, peach and tropical fruits, slight hints of honey and minerals. Supple texture on the palate, very balanced, complex and with an invigorating mineral freshness. A very rare, remarkable Tuscan Chardonnay, aged for 11 months on lees in barriques. Chardonnay Collezione Privata is a real achievement, especially for its natural ability to present the purity of the grape variety and the importance of texture in equal measure. SUPERIORE.DE
"The 2021 Chardonnay Collezione Privata is a wine of unusual pedigree and depth. Lemon zest, dried pear, chamomile, white pepper and crushed rock give the 2021 a layered complexity. I particularly admire the sense of verticality in this wine." Vinous
"Bright straw yellow. Ripe white fruits with a hint of spicy oak, a touch of oatmeal and cut lemon. Focused and with a hint of orange blossom. White fruits with just a hint of oak that is very restrained. Gentle, citrusy white fruit flavours with a hint of creaminess, but the focus was clearly on maintaining freshness; something that is increasingly in demand as global warming increases. The wine is very drinkable but should become even more interesting in a few years." Jancis Robinson
"Attractive aromas of walnut, peach pit and vanilla with grilled lemon and sliced quince. Full and textured with a creamy mouthfeel. Structured and complex with nutty and mineral undertones on the finish. Rounded and long lasting final." James Suckling
"The Isole e Olena 2021 Chardonnay Collezione Privata has a very citrusy side with grapefruit and preserved lemon. These fresh aromas transition into hints of cinnamon and saffron, but the overall style is reductive in character. This is a medium-bodied white wine with a nice richness and salty, mineral notes on the finish. This Tuscan Chardonnay has a lot of character. However, the wine needs time to gain more weight and texture." Wine Advocate
"Bright, intense straw yellow with light green nuances. Opens with notes of hazelnuts and white asparagus, then pear and fresh apple. Fresh and clear on the nose, salty, opens very nicely, creates a wide range of tension, creamy on the final." Falstaff
