“Demesse Vecchie” Lugana DOC 2021
Demesse Vecchie is named after the village where Olivini has its family seat. The historic part of the vineyard was home to a nunnery in the late 17th century. The addition "vecchie" promises that the grapes for this very complex Lugana come from the estate's oldest vines, some of which are over 50 years old. They are also harvested late and carefully selected, after which they are matured on the fine lees for several months.
Straw yellow with golden reflections. Orange peel, juicy peaches and hints of almond butter on the ripe nose. Full and delicately fruity on the palate, with delicate notes of vanilla and honey, some apricot and banana. A well-balanced, dry wine with a wonderful balance between fruit and acidity and by no means heavy or broad, but infinitely long. SUPERIORE.DE
"This wine from the estate's single vineyard opens with aromas of ripe pears, lemon peel and oil, citrus blossom and a hint of river stone. The round palate offers a blend of fruit, grapefruit and tangerine, followed by mouth-watering acidity and a savoury finish." Wine Enthusiast
"Chalky phenols meet an oaky touch that leads the way to a palate of spiced fruit, lanolin and melon accents. The acidity, fresh as sea spray, ensures a very good length. Very drinkable." James Suckling

“Sansonina” Lugana DOC 2022
Sansonina (Lugana and Merlot) is a strictly limited and very ambitious project by the Zenato family, in which only the best grapes from their own vineyards are used. Only a small number of these are sold in numbered bottles each year.
This spontaneously fermented Lugana from the Sansonina winery is a masterpiece with a broad aroma of exotic fruits. In addition to the intense fruit, there is enough room on the palate for a fine minerality and freshness. It is undisputedly one of the most serious Lugana wines we know. SUPERIORE.DE
"Brilliant, light straw yellow colour. Shows some greenish notes of basil and marjoram on the nose, followed by green peach and yeast. Lots of juicy peach fruit on the palate, some apricot, nice bite on the final." Falstaff

The moderate carbonic acidity makes it glide over the palate like silk. SUPERIORE.DE

“Selezione Sergio Zenato” Lugana Riserva DOC 2021
Brilliant golden yellow colour. Complex notes of light peach, fresh pineapple and poached apricot on the nose. Rich and creamy on the palate with accents of smoke and toasted almonds. The finish is long-lasting, mineral and herb-accentuated. This very focussed and complex white paints a beautiful portrait of the refined side of the Trebbiano di Lugana grape, which is becoming increasingly popular. SUPERIORE.DE
"Rich, bright straw yellow with a golden centre. Complex nose with notes of pickled peach and camomile, delicate smoky notes in the background. Taut on the palate, ripe fruit and crisp acidity, unfortunately a noticeable use of wood on the final, still needs to age." Falstaff
"Aromas of toast and pineapple fruit. The attack is soft and smooth, with a silky texture, a glycerine layer, refreshing acidity and a light to medium body. Cedar that is lean on the finish. Drinkable now, but it has potential for aging." James Suckling
"Rich flavors of toasted hazelnut, patisserie apple and pear, lemon curd and vanilla are chiseled by well-honed acidity and a streak of salinity in this white, which shows focus and tension. Tightly meshed today, this will unfurl nicely with some bottle age or in the glass." Wine Spectator

The famous food critic Luigi Veronelli was right when he stated that it is impossible to forget a good Lugana once you have tasted it. The taste of this popular white wine is just as fascinating as the breathtaking view over the beautiful Lake Garda, where the Lugana wine is produced on a 2,200 hectare vineyard area between the towns of Desenzano, Sirmione, Pozzolengo, Lonato and Peschiera del Garda.
The eponymous Lugana DOC production zone runs through the two northern Italian regions of Lombardy and Veneto. Old farmhouses and vineyards dominate the beautiful landscape and the lemon trees that blossom here are evidence of the mild Mediterranean climate, which is actually unusual for northern Italy. In terms of weather, Lake Garda has a great influence on winegrowing, as its mild breezes favour the slow ripening process of the grapes. The grape variety from which this white wine is made corresponds to the late-ripening Trebbiano di Soave, which is also known as Turbiana or Trebbiano di Lugana by the locals.
The high-yielding vines are cultivated on the calcareous clay soils of the flat plains, which are known for being very hard and difficult to work in dry conditions and becoming terribly soft and muddy when it rains. Despite these labour-intensive circumstances, however, the winemakers agree that it is precisely these clay soils that are responsible for the wine's typically mineral style and citrus and almond notes.
Even though production regulations allow the addition of other white grape varieties at 10%, most Lugana wines are deliberately made from 100% Trebbiano di Soave grapes. Genetically, the variety is the same as Verdicchio Bianco from the Marche, but differs from Lugana in that it tastes more acidic and spicy. Our popular white wine from the Veneto, on the other hand, has a mineral-floral character with a dry, low-acid taste. The bitter, sour, sweet and salty flavours are harmoniously balanced, making each Lugana a perfect companion for snacks, vegetarian dishes, poultry or fish dishes.
The majority of the wines produced correspond to the basic Lugana DOC quality level, which is mainly fermented in stainless steel and usually drunk young. At the end of the nineties, the categories Lugana Superiore DOC and Lugana Riserva DOC were added, which mature significantly longer and are often aged in wooden barrels. Matured Lugana wines taste intensely creamy and the bitter almond note changes to hazelnut-like aromas as they age. As a rule, however, you can always recognise a good Lugana by its characteristic freshness, which is created by a pleasant interplay between acidity and structure.
Some winemakers also succeed in bringing out this specific character, both in the form of a sweet late harvest and in sparkling Lugana sparkling wines. Whether in sparkling, still, young, mature, dry or rather sweet form: The pleasure factor of this white wine is guaranteed in any case. SUPERIORE.DE
