From the dense Barolo from Serralunga d'Alba to the lively volcanic wines produced on the slopes of Etna – the Giovanni Rosso winery undoubtedly offers an impressive variety. Powerful wines with a velvety structure and elegance are the trademark of the famous family business.
The success story of the winery, which was originally located only in Piedmont, really got going when Giovanni’s son Davide took over the business in 2011 as a leading oenologist. The then 21-year-old had previously studied in Burgundy and worked there at prestigious wineries such as the Domaine Jean Grivot and Domaine Denis Mortet. There he learned above all how to produce quality wines that reflect the region in the glass, and defined his current leitmotif: "Every wine must be the perfect copy of its terroir".
Always fascinated by unique terroirs, Davide expanded in 2016 to one of the most sought-after growing areas on the other side of Italy. His small Sicilian winery Montedolce is located in Solicchiata in Castiglione di Sicilia. On the north-eastern slopes of lava-spitting Etna, he acquired a 14-hectare vineyard cell, of which only six hectares are planted with old vines today. Here Davide grows the white grape variety Carricante and the black-berry Nerello according to the local traditions and his terroir-shaped motto.
