“Riff” Pinot Grigio delle Venezie DOC 2023 (BIO)
The RIFF project is a cooperation between Alois Lageder and local winegrowers in the Veneto region, where the grapes also thrive in selected vineyards. Since the 2018 vintage, the popular RIFF Pinot Grigio delle Venezie is not only certified organic, but has also been given a new look by Austrian artist Nanna Prieler. On the label, segments of stylised ammonites tell the story of the formation of the mountain landscape on which the vines for the Pinot Grigio RIFF now stand: From the ocean with its coral reefs to the unique terroir in which many fossils of former ocean dwellers can still be discovered today.
Bright light yellow with greenish shimmer. The aroma is finely fruity, floral-mineral with delicate notes of tropical fruits. On the palate, RIFF Pinot Gris is precise, lively and fresh, with a medium body and a harmonious finish. A perfect companion to light Mediterranean dishes or simply solo on the balcony or terrace. Pinot Grigio Vigneti delle Dolomiti IGT 2023
Franz' Pinot Grigio presents itself with an intense straw yellow colour, a floral-spicy bouquet reminiscent of acacia blossom, hay, almonds, sage and sandalwood, enriched with aromas of sliced apples, pears, lemons and honeydew melon after appropriate bottle ageing. On the palate, the wine enchants with its delicate, elegant finesse and juicy, fresh fullness. The Pinot Grigio shows its best side after a few months of ageing in the bottle. SUPERIORE.DE

Light golden yellow in colour. Fine, restrained nose of delicate white flowers and yellow-fruity nuances. Juicy and clear on the palate, round texture with harmonious play, medium length and very fresh and full of character with its delicate citrus note. SUPERIORE.DE
"To say it up front: This is one of the most linear and crystalline Pinot Gris that I have tasted here so far. Mineral and herbal bouquet, cool and taut rather than pleasing, delicate pear and herbal notes. In the mouth, it scores with crystalline juiciness, a fine melt and the typical spiciness with chalky hints. Certainly one of the best Pinot Gris in South Tyrol." Weinwisser

“Fallwind” Pinot Grigio Alto Adige DOC 2023
The evening fall winds of the Mendel Mountains characterise the entire terroir of the St. Michael-Eppan winery. They ensure cool nights and give the grapes the extraordinary characteristics that characterise the aromas, unmistakable freshness and longevity of the wines. The fall wind is the natural force that blows over the vineyard every day, positively influencing the climate and supporting the valuable work of the winegrowers at the cooperative winery.
The Fallwind wines are ambassadors of their terroir and reflect the strengths of the growing region in a unique way. Most of them are from selected vineyards that have been cultivated for centuries. Strict quality guidelines, low yields, intensive manual labour in the vineyard and gentle and individual ageing in the cellar make them what they are: Characterful, precise and unique wines with varietal characteristics that will win over every connoisseur.
This Pinot Grigio from a single vineyard with loamy limestone gravel soils is another prime example of how Pinot Gris from Italy can be much more than just a simple wine for drinking. With a ripe bouquet of pear and honeydew melon, a noble structure, excellent balance and fine acidity, it will win over even the most discerning palate. SUPERIORE.DE

Pinot Grigio Friuli Colli Orientali DOC 2023
Intense straw yellow in colour, the aroma is reminiscent of freshly baked bread, acacia blossom and ripe tropical fruit. These flavours are also confirmed on the palate, the Pinot Gris is elegant and full-bodied with an extremely delicate yeasty note. A harmonious wine full of character with good length. SUPERIORE.DE
"Here's a straightforward and classic expression of the versatile Pinot Grigio grape made in stainless steel only. The 2023 Friuli Colli Orientali Pinot Grigio offers lots of sweet summer fruit, such as creamy peach and honeydew melon, over a mildly creamy texture. This wine is faithful to the taste profile that is typically achieved with this variety from Friuli. This includes an extra dose of sweetness on the finish." Wine Advocate

“del Pompiere” Pinot Grigio Friuli DOC 2023
Mario Schiopetto was born in 1930, grew up in the family-owned Osteria ai Pompieri and gained his first professional experience as a fireman and later as a lorry driver. In 1963, guided only by his taste and his love of wine, he began to dedicate himself to wine production in his parents' winery and produced the first pure Tocai in 1965. At the time, the historic label featured a drawing of his fire engine, which he also used to deliver the wine to customers. With the 2019 vintage, the winery returned to these historical roots and included the cute drawing on some of its wine labels.
Attractive Pinot Gris from Friuli with green apple and orange blossom, a hint of wet stones and coriander on the nose. Pleasantly medium-bodied on the palate with a wonderfully fresh final. Appealing and sophisticated. SUPERIORE.DE
"Iris root, pomelo and fresh turmeric root. A Pinot from Friuli, floral with jasmine on the nose, and with a flavour reminiscent of spotted pears sent in rainbow-coloured soap bubbles across a blue sky." Jancis Robinson

Pinot Grigio Friuli Isonzo DOC 2023
Pinot Grigio has been at home in the Isonzo for 140 years now; with the necessary sensitivity, it develops a great deal of elegance and structure and can almost be called autochthonous here. It is not surprising that Alvaro Pecorari has taken this grape variety to his heart. A finesse-rich white with a floral bouquet and a fine peach note. On the palate, multi-layered and quite complex, the 8-month yeast storage gives it depth, length and a good ageing potential. SUPERIORE.DE

“Porer” Pinot Grigio Mitterberg IGT 2022 (BIO)
Bright, straw-yellow colour with greenish reflections. Pronounced, rich, somewhat smoky varietal aroma, fine woody spice. Clean, fruity, powerful flavour. Round, full-bodied flavour. Fresh final with a long, spicy aftertaste. For us, one of the most fascinating Pinot Gris wines in South Tyrol every year. SUPERIORE.DE
"Showing a copperish color, the Alois Lageder 2022 Pinot Grigio Porer offers an extra hint of crunchiness, thanks to some minimal white wine tannin. The aromas veer towards grape skin, apricot and poached pear, and you can almost taste the waxy bloom on the skins. This wine stands somewhere at the crossroads of a Ramato and a natural wine, stylistically speaking." Wine Advocate

Pinot Grigio Friuli DOC 2023
Light yellow-green colour, very inviting aroma of pear fruit, melon and delicate grapefruit. Juicy and powerful on the palate, the flavours are reminiscent of white fruit, racy acidity, elegant and mineral. SUPERIORE.DE
"Bright straw yellow colour. Peach, hints of elderflower and camomile, pear on the nose. Full-bodied on the palate, with good pressure and lovely juiciness, finishing on fresh mint, solid." Falstaff
"A textbook Pinot Grigio if you're looking for freshness and simplicity. Green apples, star fruit and a hint of chalk follow through to a clean, crisp palate. Tangy and tangy finish. Drink now." James Suckling
"This bright white is light- to medium-bodied, with a creamy density to the well-meshed flavors of apricot and mango fruit, blood orange peel, salted almond, anise and white blossoms. Lip-smacking and vivacious through the mineral-laced finish." Wine Spectator

Even though the grape variety Pinot Grigio is considered typically Italian, it actually comes from the French Burgundy, where it is called Pinot Gris. "Gris" or "grigio" means grey and comes from the fact that the ripe grapes do not take on a yellow-green colour, but a grey-blue to red-brown colour. Visually, Pinot Grigio, which is known in Germany as Grauburgunder, thus resembles a red grape variety, which is due to its close relationship with Pinot Nero (Pinot Noir, Spätburgunder). Thus, it is up to each winemaker to ferment the grapes into light, clear white wines or into copper-coloured rosés (Ramato).
The list of Italian wine regions where the high-yield Pinot Grigio is cultivated stretches from Lombardy to Sicily. Almost half of the total 17,300 hectares of vineyards are distributed among the three northern Italian regions of Veneto, Friuli and Trentino-Alto Adige. The lion's share is in Veneto, where the grape variety can be found in the extensive cultivation areas near the picturesque Lake Garda. Here, the grapes are fermented into an enticingly palatable, delicately fruity aperitif version with low acidity and low alcohol content.
But Pinot Grigio has a lot more to offer, which should arouse the curiosity of one or two wine lovers. It unfolds its aromatic potential in Trentino-South Tyrol, where stony vineyards lie directly on the foothills of the Dolomites and have to be laboriously worked by hand. Besides mineral notes and fruity aromas of pears, apples and white peaches, the exciting mountain wines inspire with a lively, crisp acidity.
On the border with Slovenia, the Friulians produce their rich and luscious Pinot Grigio wines from the best hillside sites in the appellations. The classics come from the hilliest vineyards (Collio) and mature for quite some time in large wooden or cement barrels. Here, at the latest, the spicy character, the aroma of sweet, ripe fruit and the incredible storage potential of the grape variety come to the fore. In this case, you can definitely impress your guests with an older Pinot Grigio, because the longer it can develop in the bottle, the more ethereal and creamy it tastes, without losing any of its freshness and vitality.
In the meantime, one increasingly comes across artisan Pinot Grigio, which convey a sense of the place of origin and the care taken by the winemaker. Thanks to its intense fullness of flavour, the grape variety is predominantly bottled as a single varietal instead of only being used for blending other wines. From the sparkling wine for every day, to wines with a noticeable texture and more intense tertiary aromas, there is certainly something for every wine lover, especially as the young, juicy Pinot Grigio is ideal for risotto creations, while the richer variety may be served quietly with hearty meat and fish dishes.
Because we are always looking for first-class products, there is no trace of uninteresting mass-produced wines in our range. If you want to be inspired by this grape variety, you should take a look at the wines from Veneto, Friuli and Trentino-Alto Adige as well as the examples from Lombardy, Valle d'Aosta and Abruzzo, which have taken our palate by storm.
