“Maria Novella” Rosato di Pinot Nero dell' Oltrepò Pavese DOC 2023
Delicate salmon pink colour. Fine, delicate bouquet with notes of pomegranate, peach and apricot. Full and rich on the palate with a delicate bitter note and an invigorating freshness on the finish. This rosato is full of character and anything but random and, for us, the fresh, very harmonious wine for a Mediterranean lunch on a warm summer's day. SUPERIORE.DE

“Fallwind” Pinot Nero Rosé Alto Adige DOC 2023
The evening fall winds of the Mendel Mountains characterise the entire terroir of the St. Michael-Eppan winery. They ensure cool nights and give the grapes the extraordinary characteristics that characterise the aromas, unmistakable freshness and longevity of the wines. The fall wind is the natural force that blows over the vineyard every day, positively influencing the climate and supporting the valuable work of the winegrowers at the cooperative winery.
The Fallwind wines are ambassadors of their terroir and reflect the strengths of the growing region in a unique way. Most of them are from selected vineyards that have been cultivated for centuries. Strict quality guidelines, low yields, intensive manual labour in the vineyard and gentle and individual ageing in the cellar make them what they are: Characterful, precise and unique wines with varietal characteristics that will win over every connoisseur.
The rosé from San Michele Appiano is a single-varietal Pinot Noir from selected vineyards with a predominantly southern exposure around the municipality of Appiano. A fresh, fruity, juicy and elegant rosé. And a very successful, delicate and delicately fruity Pinot Nero, one of the oldest and most valuable grape varieties in the world. SUPERIORE.DE

“Meczan” Pinot Nero Alto Adige DOC 2022
A South Tyrolean Pinot Noir could hardly be more harmonious: Medium cherry red colour, aromas of raspberry pulp and cassis. Round, soft on the palate, velvety tannins, delicate chocolate notes, juicy finish with fine fruit sweetness, elegant and long-lasting. SUPERIORE.DE
"This silky red has a light, pleasing plumpness that carries pure fruit notes of wild strawberry and cherry, with a rich thread of dried fig and roasted plum. A subtle, fragrant overtone of dried sage, orange peel, smoke-tinged minerality and spices lingers on the bright finish." Wine Spectator
"The 2022 Pinot Noir Meczan is remarkably pretty. Dusty rose and lavender tones complement wild strawberries. This sweeps across the palate with juicy textures and ripe wild berry fruits, complemented by hints of orange zest and tactile mineral tones. The Meczan tapers off fresh, nearly crunchy in feel and with medium length. This is a remarkable value for the purity and complexity within." Vinous

“Fallwind” Pinot Nero Riserva Alto Adige DOC 2021
"Fallwind" is the new name for the Pinot Nero Riserva with a feminine aroma of sweet fruit, flowers, minerals and spices. Slender and delicate on the palate, with great balance. Pinot Noir is a diva with high demands on soil and climate and requires a lot of attention in the cellar. For Riserva quality, the vine must also be at least ten years old and thrive in an excellent location. The Riserva from St. Michael-Eppan does not have to shy away from international price-quality comparisons. SUPERIORE.DE

"The diva among wines" say many winegrowers to the Pinot Noir, whose best specimens from Burgundy already cost a few hundred euros. The grape variety is also a component of the finest sparkling wines, from Champagne to Franciacorta. And because it places such high demands on soil, climate and winemakers, it is also a challenge and sometimes simply a hobby of winemakers all over the world. Therefore it is not surprising that you can find them in California as well as in New Zealand or Sicily.
The globetrotter gives the diva.
But the best Pinot Nero in Italy come from South Tyrol and Oltrepo Pavese (Lombardy). In South Tyrol, Pinot Noir, the old Austrian name, is often still written on the label - in Germany, by the way, it is called Pinot Noir. The highest sites of South Tyrol are stocked with them. Here, no attempt is made to emulate a Romanée Conti, but this unique terroir and micro-climate is worked out (above all Martin Foradori von Hofstätter). This results in very finely structured, fruity-elegant Pinot Noir with often fascinating fruit-acid play and endless reverberation and just as great ripening potential.
From the mountains to the lakes.
Some very exciting experiments with Pinot Nero also come from Oltrepo Pavese (border between Piedmont and Lombardy) and Tuscany. However, one of Italy's largest growing areas is of course where the finest spumanti are produced using the Metodo Classico method: Franciacorta in Lombardy in the south on the Lago d'Iseo. Almost always as a cuvée with Chardonnay, many of the Franciacorta DOCG's grandiose masterpieces are not hidden in blind tastings behind the more famous colleagues from France. SUPERIORE.DE
