Pio Cesare was one of the first winegrowers to believe in the high quality and potential of Barolo, Barbaresco, Barbera and other wines from Piedmont. The world-famous traditional winery, which he founded in the 19th century under his own name, is still based in the historic centre of Alba today. The walls of the cellars date back to the Roman Empire. Today, the traditional winery is in its sixth generation of family ownership. Since the death of descendant Pio Boffa in spring 2021, the great legacy has been passed on to Pio's daughter, Federica Boffa. Together with her cousin Cesare Benvenuto and her uncle Augusto Boffa, she now runs the winery.
Pages could be written about this traditional Piedmontese winery. Let's leave it at this point with a very timeless and still topical quote from Gambero Rosso: "Respect for the terroir and the microclimate are the basis of a philosophy that aims to reproduce the same style of wine today as in the past, albeit with the most modern cellar technology."
Leave everything as it is, carefully and yet with a wide-awake mind? Sometimes that's not so wrong, especially in these times. We respectfully honour the legacy of Pio Boffa, who sadly passed away far too early, and of course his ancestors – and pay homage to the old and new wines all the more. Finally, you can also discover one or two rarities in our store, perfectly stored and matured to perfection as always. SUPERIORE.DE
