Brunello di Montalcino DOCG 2017 · Double MAGNUM in OWC
The Brunello di Montalcino 2017 also lives up to the impeccable reputation that the winery has earned over the years. We experience here a profound and beautifully made Sangiovese that presents a powerful and lush fruit of black cherry and spicy plum at the beginning. On the nose, mild oak notes, smoke, tar and roasted nuts. As it progresses, gravel, dried herbs and some mint. This Brunello shows an elegant development in the glass and promises a very long ageing period. SUPERIORE.DE
"Dark red; reductive fruit, barrel-aged; powerful, fruity, present good tannin, length." Merum
"Floral-fruity bouquet with notes of stone fruit and caramel, also herbs; juicy in the mouth, the tannins finely tart, the final skilfully balanced. Convinces with power and solid fruit." Vinum
"Regularly somewhat "bacony" in the savoury aroma with fine cedar, bacon notes and spices marked by wood ageing, behind wild berries, cassis and raspberries. Rich, pithy, dense palate, with a coarse-meshed tannin network that doesn't quite match last year's in quality. Substantial final." Weinwisser
"Bright ruby red. In the nose slightly bacony hints, then ripe raspberries and cherries, shows nuances of light malt, leather. On the palate pithy and with delicately wide-meshed tannin, savoury fruit in the attack and course, still needs to find itself." Falstaff
"Lustrous deep ruby. Firm, deep cherry fruit on the nose and with an undertow of savoury spice. Lots of perfumed sour-cherry fruit on the palate and with bags of firm, but polished tannins on the finish. A bit austere right now, but with great length as well as potential." Jancis Robinson
"Masses of ashen earth, smoke, dusty cherry and roses with nuances of clove lift up from the 2017 Brunello di Montalcino. This is silky and pliant upon entry, presenting a rich display of intense red and hints of black fruits laced with chalky minerals that drenches the palate. Penetrating acidity and grippy tannins create a burst of cheek-puckering tension, clenching down hard with youthful poise, as notes of licorice and hard red candies linger through the structured, medium-length finale. That said, it needs time to unwind from its youthful state. Production was down 15–20% at Il Poggione in 2017 due to severe selection of bunches, and all of the fruit that would have been reserved for the Riserva Vigna Paganelli was added to the Brunello instead." Vinous
"Sweet, ripe cherry, blackberry and plum fruit flavors are framed by mineral, tobacco and thyme accents in this vibrant, balanced red. Make no mistake, there are ample tannins too, yet this still finds a nice equilibrium on the lingering finish." Wine Spectator
"The 2017 Brunello di Montalcino opens to a saturated and shiny dark ruby color. This edition is loaded with black and purple fruits, such as blackberry preserves and plum. Those more robust tones are followed by spice, tar and campfire ash. The tannins are young (but not stemmy or bitter), and you'd be best served by letting this wine age and relax with more cellar aging. Il Poggione always makes some of the smoothest and most texturally enriched wines in the appellation, and this vintage is no exception." Wine Advocate
"Underbrush, camphor and new leather aromas get together with grilled herbs. Full-bodied and structured, it also shows restraint, featuring dried black cherry, licorice and tobacco alongside firm, fine-grained tannins." Wine Enthusiast
"Also in the 2017 vintage one of the most multifaceted and interesting references, from an historical firm. Nose of black currant, touches of fresh thyme and licorice, closing on notes of white pepper. The mouthfeel hassapid tannins and a finish with the return of small black fruits." Luca Gardini

Barbaresco Roncaglie “Masseria” DOCG 2018 · MAGNUM in OWC
First bottled in 1967, the Masseria comes from a vineyard in Bricco di Neive and is essentially vinified and aged like a Barolo. The 2018 vintage - now for the first time from a small parcel that used to belong to the Barbaresco winery Socré - was also deliberately released a year later to provide more harmony and balance. Vietti's Masseria is always delicate and refined, and this is all the more true for the current vintage.
On the nose, aromas of red fruits, especially blackberries and currants, but also earthy and bloody notes. In the mouth, the polished and shiny tannins typical of the vineyard, framed by a very vertical and precise fruit and herbaceous nuances. In the long finish, a wonderful freshness, then subtle notes of menthol and again this fascinating herbal spiciness. Truly a leap in quality - Luca Currado and his team have once again done everything right. SUPERIORE.DE
"Shiny, medium dense ruby garnet. Clearly marked nose with notes of ripe raspberries and strawberries, some pomegranate and leather. Pithy, savoury tannin characterises the course on the palate, lots of cherry fruit." Falstaff
"Starts with earthy aromas giving way to cherry, raspberry and savory hay and eucalyptus flavors, with more fruit coming to the fore with time in glass. Solidly built, this is dense, racy and compact on the menthol finish." Wine Spectator
"This wine shows its MGA name "Roncaglie" on the front label for the first time. That's because Vietti recently acquired additional land in this cru site. The total holdings now span two hectares of vines. The 2018 Barbaresco Roncaglie Masseria is made as if it were a Barolo (instead of a Barbaresco) and is released one year after its peers. It shows tart fruit and dried cranberry with some mild spice and tarry smoke from two years in large oak casks. Exactly 5,026 bottles were made." Wine Advocate
"The 2018 Barbaresco Masseria Roncaglie is a captivating, layered wine full of character. Effusive aromatics make a strong opening impression. Rose petal, lavender, sage, blood orange and red berry fruit all run through this vibrant, focused Barbaresco. The 2018 is charming and nuanced from start to finish. This is the first vintage from a parcel that previously belonged to Socré. It's an impressive debut, to say the least. All this nervy Barbaresco needs is time." Vinous

Barolo “Ornato” DOCG 2017 · MAGNUM in OWC
Red stone fruits, crushed gravel, orange zest, spices and white pepper create an almost exotic Barolo full of charm and with high recognition value. On the palate, punchy and very energetic. Ornato 2017 plays on all the themes that Serralunga is about - a fantastic achievement by the entire Pio Cesare team. SUPERIORE.DE
"Besides cherry, also Christmas scents like cinnamon and bergamot; velvety, fine, everything is roundly polished, a cocoa note resonates in the background, then the crackling saltiness flashes out and gives the wine life and tension." Weinwisser
"Bright, medium dense ruby garnet. Opens with notes of blood oranges and lemony ginger, then lots of dark cherries, fresh. Powerful and full-bodied on the palate, unfolds with a lot of pressure, grippy, dense tannin, salty-mineral components, very long finish." Falstaff
"Just mid ruby with orange tinges. Sweet and a little monolithic on the nose and with hints of Moroccan leather. Rich palate with dried-fruit notes and a brooding layer of ripe cherry. Really complex and pulled up by fresh acidity. Very long and generous and with coating tannins sticking to the generous fruit. A fascinating wine." Jancis Robinson
"Though underlined by firm, dusty tannins, this red displays ripe cherry, plum, green tea and earth flavors. Fresh and full of energy on the lingering finish." Wine Spectator
"With fruit from the village of Serralunga d'Alba, the Pio Cesare 2017 Barolo Ornato exhibits a richer textural style and more concentrated fruit flavors compared to all the other Nebbiolo-based wines in this portfolio. Dark cassis and blackberry segue to black licorice and tarry smoke. Those signature hints of rusty nail, earth and candied orange peel that are so specific to this village are also quite evident. The wine shows structure and depth that will help it withstand extra cellar aging." Wine Advocate
"The very first single-vineyard Barolo produced by the family, first made in 1985, this is vinified in stainless steel tanks with moderate temperature control. It then undergoes maceration for 30 days and ageing in botti for about 30 months, with a small portion of the wine in French oak barriques for the first 12 months. Dark ruby in colour, it has aromas of raspberry, rose, violet, cherry, slatey minerality and graphite. The attack is subtle, the tannins polished, with an extracted mid-palate. Assertive acidity and an austere finish are balanced by fragrant cherry fruit and a liquorice aftertaste." Decanter
"Rose, wild herb, forest floor and woodland berry aromas come to the forefront along with a warm spice accent. Structured and elegant, the full-bodied palate features raspberry compote, vanilla, star anise and crushed mint framed in tightly-knit, refined tannins. An espresso note lingers on the close." Wine Enthusiast
"The 2017 Barolo Ornato offers a bit more mid-palate density and volume than the Mosconi tasted alongside it. Like that wine, it is an infant that will need time to truly blossom. Sweet red cherry, sage, mint, rosewater and dried flowers lend striking intrigue throughout. The Ornato is a super-impressive wine that shows the more finessed style Pio Cesare has been pursuing over the last few years." Vinous
"Extremely perfumed with dark berries, cherries, strawberries and crushed stones. Full-bodied with chewy, polished tannins that are muscular. Fantastic structure to this young Barolo, as well as great length. It grows on the palate with ease. Truly impressive. Incredible." James Suckling

“Rosso del Conte” Sicilia Contea di Sclafani DOC 2015 · Double MAGNUM in OWC
Ruby red, with a fine cherry scent, in which there are also hints of nuts and forest fruits, vanilla, cinnamon, sage and tobacco. Concentrated, rich flavour with harmonious tannins and a long, velvety final. SUPERIORE.DE
"Rich, sparkling ruby with a slight violet shimmer. Multi-layered nose, rich notes of ripe plums, some blueberries, cedar and resin in the background. Juicy and round on the palate, spreads out with powerful, well-integrated tannin, describes a wide arc, firm pressure, long and firm." Falstaff
"Deep crimson. Deep, minty nose with cardamom pod, dark fruit and black-pepper notes and hints of dark earth. I suspect this was aged in chestnut casks. With aeration, increasingly multilayered and growing in stature. Hedonistic dark fruit and finely chiselled tannins on the palate. Very long, generous and complex, but in order for this wine to show its real potential I would put it away for at least five yeas. You don't immediately see it but the bottle has a beautiful shape." Jancis Robinson
"Scorched soil, leather, mature black-skinned fruit and Mediterranean scrub are just some of the aromas you'll find on this blend of Nero d'Avola and Perricone. The enveloping, full-bodied palate delivers ripe blackberry, black cherry, black spice and dried herb alongside firm, fine-grained tannins." Wine Enthusiast
"Good dark red. Ripe, vibrant nose offers kirsch, coffee, chocolate and a whiff of black pepper. At once silky-sweet and tangy, with lovely inner-mouth perfume to the fine-grained red/black fruit flavors. Finishes broad, very smooth and long, with harmonious acidity and ripe tannins giving the wine solid structure for aging. A powerful but already approachable red that will have many fans." Vinous
"Complex and decadent aromas of dark berries, walnuts, licorice, and tar follow through to a full body with rich and ripe fruit and a soft and lightly velvety finish." James Suckling
"This is an iconic Sicilian red that celebrates its 40th anniversary with this handsomely styled bottle. The 2015 Sicilia Contea di Sclafani Rosso del Conte Tenuta Regaleali definitely delivers the goods, but it also delivers a few surprises along the way. There's a lot going on in terms of aromas with softly ripened fruit that is plush and succulent. With a good amount of clarity I might add, you also get varietally true aromas of olive, anise and toasted Bronte pistachio. At the tail end, there is a meaty or savory tone of smoked pancetta or cured ham. The wine shows beautiful intensity and depth with textural richness and integrated tannins." Wine Advocate

Brunello di Montalcino “Poggio al Vento” Riserva DOCG 2013 (BIO) · MAGNUM in OWC
Delicate garnet reflections enliven the classic ruby. On the nose, aromas of ripe cherries combine with notes reminiscent of tobacco and medicinal herbs to create a complex harmony. The taste, infused with impeccable fine tannin, gains an almost sensational fullness as it progresses and is supported by a good acid component. A Riserva like something out of a picture book. SUPERIORE.DE
"Sparkling, intense garnet red. Very inviting and intense nose of cranberries and pomegranate, some saffron, juicy, fresh cherry. Pithy, very well placed tannin on the palate, fine sweet melting, lingers long, very juicy, has potential for many years." Falstaff
"This shows ripeness and richness of fruit. It’s full-bodied with juicy fruit and a savory finish. Verges on jammy, yet there’s tension and freshness with orange-peel and floral undertones." James Suckling
"Broad shouldered and firmly structured with expressive aromas and flavors of red cherry, flint, blackberry reduction and underbrush. Finishes very long and saline; strikes me as one of the more refined, lightweight versions of Poggio al Vento in years. Lovely wine, and commendably, very much in style of the vintage. I expect this to improve considerably in the years to come: well done." Vinous
"Aromas of underbrush, wild berry, leather, camphor and Mediterranean herb waft out of the glass. The full-bodied palate is still young and primary but shows great aging potential, delivering juicy red cherry, pomegranate, licorice and tobacco set against firm tannins while bright acidity keeps it balanced." Wine Enthusiast
"The 2013 Brunello di Montalcino Riserva Poggio al Vento sets this venerable Riserva program squarely back on track thanks to its balanced intensity and classic lines. Like in the other Sangiovese-based wines from this historic Montalcino estate, this wine is distinguished by those estate-specific savory and sanguine notes that recall rusty nail or iron, all followed by balsam herb, powdered licorice and even a touch of eucalyptus oil. The wine's texture is medium in weight and ultimately this expression is more buoyant in mouthfeel than you might initially expect of a wine that has aged for this long." Wine Advocate

“Alessandro dal Borro” Syrah Toscana IGT 2016 (BIO) · MAGNUM in gift box
We have known that the still relatively unknown Valdarno region near Arezzo produces great wines since Galatrona and Torrione (Fattoria Petrolo) at the latest. However, one immediately thinks of Sangiovese, or at best Cabernet Sauvignon or Merlot. From a small vineyard, however, the Ferragamos only vinify a single-varietal Syrah in the really good years, which is then consistently only sold in magnum bottles to the hand-picked specialised trade or the top gastronomy.
Expressive bouquet of blackberries, pepper and chocolaty notes. It is fleshy, juicy and impresses with a very present fruit. Full and round, well textured and flanked by wonderfully defined tannins, Alessandro dal Borro leads into a great finish. High expectable ageing potential, not only because of the 1.5l large format. SUPERIORE.DE
"The most vivid note of tangerine that I’ve ever encountered gives way to masses of red plum, currants and cocoa as the 2016 Syrah Alessandro dal Borro blossoms in the glass. It flows across the palate like weighted silk, seamless and elegant, as a wave of tart berries and mineral tones add traction offset by a sour citrus twang. The 2016 impresses further, finishing dramatically long and spicy, with gently grippy tannins that curl the tongue. Blackberry and salted licorice notes linger on and on. The Alessandro dal Borro is only bottled in magnums, which should help it along its steady path to maturity. This is a beautifully balanced and well-tailored Tuscan Syrah." Vinous
"This is a really pretty syrah with plenty of blackberry, tar and black-tea aromas with subtle aromas of spices like clove and black pepper. It’s full-bodied, yet layered and open with beautiful fruit and fine, creamy tannins. Subtle and intense. Beautiful finish. Drinkable now, but needs two or three years to show its excellence." Barolo Cannubi DOCG 2018 (BIO) · MAGNUM in OWC
Barolo Cannubi is a great wine that highlights the classic beauty of Nebbiolo. This wine is like a statue of a Greek goddess with perfect proportions and feminine aesthetics. The bouquet is complex, with bright fruits, white pepper, mint, orange peel and spicy liquorice. The tannins are polished and fine, with a hint of the characteristic limestone chalk that you sometimes taste in Cannubi. Lively acidity rounds out this extremely elegant, fresh and graceful wine. Very full-bodied and focused with great length. SUPERIORE.DE
"Sparkling, medium dense ruby with a pronounced garnet rim. Very appealing and intense nose of ripe, dark wild raspberries, dried plums, also some rhubarb and cranberry. Grippy, hearty tannin, opens up in many layers, lots of ripe, present fruit, firm pressure and fine melting on the final." Falstaff
"Cool, sweet red fruit and a touch of minty oak. Fresh, gentle and juicy red fruit with elegant tannins that gently stick to the palate. Everything is elegant about this wine." Jancis Robinson
"The 2018 Barolo Cannubi is soft, open-knit and gracious, as wines from this vintage tend to be. Silky contours and pliant fruit add to its appeal and overall immediacy. The 2018 is a real charmer. It's understated personality will be easy to appreciate upon release. Sweet red cherry, cinnamon, mint, cedar and dried rose petal linger nicely, with pretty sweet floral notes that continue to open over time." Vinous
"Deep and seductive on the nose and palate with crushed red berries and a soft mineral base. Full-bodied with very silky tannins that are already melded into the wine. More linear, drinkable quality to this in 2018. Compact and delicious even now, but better with another year in bottle." James Suckling
"Elegant and seamless for such a young red, exhibiting rose, cherry, mint, menthol and mineral flavors. Firm yet balanced and long, with echoes of cherry and menthol on the saline finish." Wine Spectator
"The E. Pira e Figli - Chiara Boschis 2018 Barolo Cannubi is a lovely wine with a classic playlist of true Nebbiolo aromas. This certified organic wine exhibits wild berry, rose, dried lilac and an earthy touch of white truffle. However, the floral aromas and the lifted fruit are the protagonists in this balanced expression. Chiara farms less than one hectare (just over 6,000 square meters) in the celebrated Cannubi MGA with ancient calcareous clay soils from the Miocene era. Production is limited to 3,594 bottles. This is one of the best wines of the vintage." Wine Advocate

Limitation of 1 articles per customerBrunello di Montalcino DOCG 2017 · MAGNUM in OWC
Silky, open and graceful, it captivates with outstanding elegance and the finesse typical of Montalcino's northern sector. Rose petals, sweet red berries and graceful, minty notes grace the palate in a sensual, silky Brunello that exudes its class and pedigree with the first sip. The traditional Marroneto style with fine-grained tannin and subtle saltiness contrasts excitingly with the classic structure and extract sweetness. Great wine! SUPERIORE.DE
"When we tasted the wine, our little group went wow. Here, once again, the advantage of the higher-lying vineyards around the town of Montalcino becomes apparent. Alessandro Mori's vineyards lie at 400 metres above sea level. The bouquet already shows how distinguished the wine is: fine red fruit, with crisp raspberries and wild berries, plus mineral hints and red cherries. In the mouth with a lot of refinement, amazingly slender for the hot and dry year, totally relying on freshness, immensely red berry, fresh and fruity with almost delicate beginnings, firm but fine tannin. Filigree interwoven. Stands out positively with its freshness and fine style." Weinwisser
"Bright, medium-dense ruby red. Opens with emphatic spicy notes, of thyme and cardamom, then lots of juicy sour cherry. Present fruit on the palate with juicy fruit." Falstaff
"The 2017 Brunello di Montalcino wafts up with vibrancy and spunk, showing woodland berries and herbs with crushed wet stone and undergrowth in an incredibly fresh and lively expression. It’s soft and pliant upon entry, enveloping with its saturating raspberry fruits and inner spice, as mineral tension builds, giving way to sweet, elegant tannins and inner florals. The 2017 shows a more slender yet well-muscled interpretation of the 2017 vintage, but it remains remarkably pretty and balanced throughout." Vinous
"Just north of Montalcino, sitting at over 400 metres, Il Marroneto’s vineyards benefit from cooling north breezes. Proprietor Alessandro Mori maintains a generous canopy to protect the grapes from hail and, above all, sunburn. With a lightness of structure yet concentration of flavour, this is beautifully midweight in presentation. Lifted fragrances of wild broom and mandarin are countered by earthier ash and roasted chestnut nuances. There's a sweet/sour sensation to the red cherry palate, and fine, powdery tannins impart a distinguishing tactile, layered texture. A finale of gingerbread lends further intrigue." Decanter
"Alessandro Mori's Il Marroneto 2017 Brunello di Montalcino opens to a very distinguished and unique character that makes this wine easy to recognize in a lineup of Brunello. This hot and dry growing season made for more powerful aromas and sometimes riper flavors in the appellation, generally speaking. But this magically lean-bodied wine follows its own path, and the warmth of the summer seems to have cemented almost exotic aromas of bay leaf, crushed flower, campfire ash and iron ore. The wine is exceedingly silky and elegant, but instead of opulence, you get streamlined tension accompanied by lifted, immediate aromas of fruit, flowers and light spice." Wine Advocate
"All the richness of the raw home material in this impeccable reading of Brunello. Blueberries jam to the nose, touches of nutmeg and fresh thyme, then final on the brackish notes of the caper fruit. The mouthfeel has iodized tannins and a fruity finish." Luca Gardini

Deep dark and impenetrable ruby red. Complex bouquet with endless layers of dark fruit and aromas, complex on the palate, tightly woven and with a long, silky mouthfeel. Very focused and juicy Cabernet Franc in Riserva quality from one of the most profound and beautiful vintages of the new millennium so far. SUPERIORE.DE
"This is Fattoria Kappa's top Cabernet Franc wine. The Essenza 2016 is packaged in a heavy glass bottle with a black wax capsule. It shows dark fruits, spices and rich saturation with a particularly full-bodied style. With this powerful bottle, you should fire up the grill to grill steak or pork chops." Wine Advocate

Brunello di Montalcino “Tenuta Nuova” DOCG 2017 · MAGNUM in OWC
Indisputably - and not only in the 2017 vintage - one of Italy's cult wines: a beguiling nose of sour cherries and black berries, with hints of spices. In the mouth a variety of aromas, especially dark fruits. The perfectly integrated acidity and soft, almost sweet tannins characterise the long finish. A wonderfully powerful, juicy and dense Brunello with excellent Storage potential. SUPERIORE.DE
"30% less yield, from the south to south-eastern sites. Intense bouquet with abundant balsamic notes, clearly tobacco and chocolate as well as dark red and blue fruits reminiscent of plum and dark cherry. Lively, immensely material-melting palate with juicy-soft contours, the hot year shows dark berry fruit and a tightly clinging but definitely sweet tannin. The hot year well reined in." Weinwisser
"Rich, sparkling garnet red. Intense nose with notes of pomegranate, red beet, then lots of plum and dark cherry. Hearty and gripping on the palate, dark berry fruit, then opens up with lots of dense tannin, firm pressure on the final." Falstaff
"Tenuta Nuova comes from the Le Cetine vineyard of Casanova di Neri in the south of Montalcino. With a full southern exposure from east to west, it is a sun-drenched, Mediterranean expression of Brunello. The 2017 takes a little persuasion at first, but then cherry bark, cinnamon, liquorice root and gardenia rise from the glass. The grainy tannins slowly dissolve into fine, dusty powder, revealing smooth, round blackcurrants. Citrusy acidity keeps it lively, while notes of dark chocolate and mint linger." Decanter
"The 2017 Brunello di Montalcino Cascina Nuova presents a multi-layered aroma of peppery herbs, musky plums, black raspberries, crushed stone, tobacco and smoke. It is silky yet juicy, supple and beguiling to the senses, with violet and lavender tones balanced by cooling acids and a hint of candied citrus. The 2017 really plays with the palate; it is spicy, long and intense, lightly structured yet classically dry. Balsamic herbs, salted liquorice - it goes on and on like a spice box menagerie. An elegant pleasure bomb." Vinous
"Expressive, complex and long, despite its compact profile today. It offers flavours of black cherries, blackberries, violets, minerals and tobacco that come through, while assertive but refined tannins leave their mark on the long finish." Wine Spectator
"Lots of red plums and cherries on the nose, full-bodied on the palate with thick, silky tannins and a fresh and tasty finish. The tannins are in good balance with the ripe fruit. Fresh and transparent on the finish." James Suckling
"This is one of my all-time favourite Brunellos, and although personal tastes are fluid and can change from time to time, there is something timeless and solid about this wine. It is like a touchstone. The Casanova di Neri 2017 Brunello di Montalcino Tenuta Nuova is adorned with a similar interlude of elegant rose or crushed flowers as we saw in the Annata wine. It is even more prominent here, with more shape and concentrated intensity. Giacomo Neri makes wines for pleasure and sensual impact, and this wine meets all those criteria. But it also shows a floral elegance and sour cherry freshness that exceeds our expectations for the vintage." Wine Advocate
"A very ambitious project for a wine that is already iconic. The nose is taut, vertical, with hints of raspberry, balsamic notes of eucalyptus and a floral, tulip finish. The mouthfeel is crisp and dense, with salty, chalky tannins. The trace of medicinal herbs returns in the aftertaste." Luca Gardini

Barolo Ravera “Vigna Elena” Riserva DOCG 2017 · MAGNUM in OWC
Barolo Riserva Ravera Vigna Elena is a beautiful wine from Elvio Cogno and, not surprisingly, as is so often the case, the best from the collection of the family-run winery from Novello. It is aged in large Slavonian oak barrels and produced only in selected vintages. It exudes delicate truffle notes and aromas of wild berries with a hint of exotic spice. The wine is soft, lush and well-structured, and it makes your mouth water. This Barolo shows the power and inner structure of the Ravera Cru and should age beautifully over the next two decades. SUPERIORE.DE
"Just medium ruby red with orange reflections. Still very backward and closed on the nose. Amazing depth and fine mineral notes coming out of the glass. Wonderful richness of cherry fruit, underpinned by long, velvety tannins. Juicy integrated acidity. Perfect balance. Hedonistic without sacrificing elegance." Jancis Robinson
"Needs some aeration, but then aromas of wild berries, pepper and flowers entice, well cushioned by the wood; in the mouth harmonious and yet with race, the tannins promising and well integrated, intense and yet of great elegance the final." Vinum
"The Barolo Riserva Ravera Vigna Elena 2017 is a very beautiful, aromatic wine. Dried cherry, tobacco, cedar, spices and mint give the Vigna Elena its characteristic aromas. The 2017 is a very nice medium-bodied Barolo and very graceful. I can imagine it drinking well with minimal ageing." Vinous
"Notes of dried cherries and strawberries, ground spices, ripe orange peel, walnuts and sandalwood. Medium to full-bodied. The tannins are velvety and well integrated with a dusty texture. Complete and balanced with a polished finish." James Suckling
"This is Cogno's top wine, a micro-vinification of the rosé Nebbiolo clone from an even more tightly defined parcel. The 2017 Barolo Riserva Ravera Vigna Elena is a hot-season expression with a broad and rich personality that matches the character of the growing season. In addition to this textural support, this wine is also more approachable and ready to go. Blackberries mingle with liquorice roots, cola and spices." Wine Advocate
"Bright, medium dense garnet red. Finely marked nose with rich notes of raspberry, some pickled peach, fresh plum in the background. Shows very interwoven on the palate, pithy tannin, well integrated as it progresses, has rich pressure, fine spice in the finish, lots of tobacco." Falstaff
"This 2017 shines with its elegance of Parma violets combined with cinnamon spice, an understated soapy rosewater scent and a spicy depth of camphor and subtle balsam. The attack is velvety, full, smooth and refreshing. The palate is dominant, and the finish shows a glycerine layer and lifted acidity with extremely elegant tannins." Decanter
"Supple and with aromas of cherries, raspberries, roses, liquorice and minerals, this Barolo is complex, harmonious and long. The silky texture is as important as all the other elements that make this wine so compelling. Excellent length on the finish." Wine Spectator
"Though it was a very dry year, this vintage still managed to keep its impressive elegance. The wine opens with enticing aromas of wild cherry, fresh and dried roses, incense, wild herbs and savory spice. The palate is an example of thoughtfulness and craft with a core of deep wild berries, black tea, and crushed stones that are all supported by supple tannins and lifted acidity." Wine Enthusiast

“Lo Chiamavano Trinità" Chianti Classico Gran Selezione DOCG 2016 · MAGNUM in gift box
Sergio's father Italo Zingarelli was a highly innovative film producer who brought Bud Spencer and Terence Hill, among others, to the screen with his film "They call me Trinity/Lo Chiamavano Trinità" in December 1970, setting a milestone in Italian cinema history.
In honour of him and the film classic, his children Fabio, Sandra and Sergio have vinified a 100% Sangiovese, which is exclusively bottled in magnums with a manageable 600 bottles on the world market. This outstanding Chianti Classico Gran Selezione from the top year 2016 will only be available for one vintage. It represents the completion of a journey that began 50 years ago when Italo (a Roman by birth) fell in love with the hills of Castellina in Chianti. SUPERIORE.DE
"Wonderful aromas of plums, sour cherry, lavender, and sliced orange follow through to a full body with dense and firm tannins that are beautifully integrated into the wine. It’s so long and focused. Such finesse with structure. Balanced and attractive. Drinkable but better in three to four years. Try after 2023." James Suckling

Brunello di Montalcino DOCG 2017 · MAGNUM in OWC
When the world-famous Oenologist Carlo Ferrini makes his own wine, one can be excited. He has succeeded here in creating an interpretation of Sangiovese that brings all his experience from decades of working with this grape variety to the point as if through a burning glass. The moderate use of wood through ageing in 700-litre tonneaux expresses the clarity and personality of the grape and the unique terroir (there are just 1.5 hectares of the best Brunello sites) in an archetypal way. A great harmony of dark cherries, black fruits, spices, leather and tobacco, ideally integrated tannins and great persistence will quickly make the few thousand bottles a sought-after collector's item. SUPERIORE.DE
"Intriguing nose of stone fruit, tobacco and bitter chocolate; polished texture with supple tannin, noticeable acidity, combines minerality, finesse and great length. Also inspiring in this vintage." Vinum
"Carlo Ferrini's Giodo has already achieved cult status in a short time. His wines bear an elegant signature. Last year, he was already ranked among the best Brunelli in WeinWisser. This year is not much different, Ferrini, who looks after more than 100 wineries, knew how to deal with the challenges of the vintage. The bouquet reveals wonderful red and blueberry notes, but also liquorice and liquorice. In the mouth, enormously complex with a linear but fine and juicy line, mineral accents are also noticeable, the tannin is grippy but fine-grained and gives the fruit an elegant frame. Another elegant throw from Carlo Ferrini." Weinwisser
"Slightly earthy and tobacco aroma of red and black berries with nutty hints, dried vegetal to herbal nuances, delicate ethereal spice, ash and a hint of tar. Straightforward, taut, rather tart, almost cool, with air increasingly juicy fruit with nutty flavours and a hint of herbs, slightly smoky on the palate, hints of toasted nutty wood notes, fine tannin, good persistence, peppery nuances and dried Mediterranean herbs in the background, orange zest, also a hint of rose petals, has animating freshness and bite, good depth, very good, firm finish with precise juice that again seems surprisingly cool. First class." Wein-Plus
"Clear, polished nose, slightly minty herbal spice, dark chocolate, plum, subtly blueberry, very firm but polished and rounded, elegantly disguised, tonal texture shows through." Meiningers Sommelier
"Sangiovese maestro Carlo Ferrini prefers to harvest the Sangiovese earlier rather than let it become overripe. In the sophisticated 2017 vintage, he harvested in the first week of September. It is a charming Brunello that expresses the understated exotic character that I think is the hallmark of this wine. Potpourri, blood orange and aniseed run through the fleshy persimmon, and there is just a hint of toasted oak. The sandy tannins tickle rather than grind the generous palate. The acidity is also very lively." Decanter
"Carlo Ferrini's Giodo 2017 Brunello di Montalcino is plush and gently layered, and the wine has plenty of fibre and cherry to absorb the power inherent in this vintage. This is Carlo's seventh Brunello from his family estate, and it is nice to reflect on the consistency of style and quality that has been achieved since this new venture was born. Giodo has the advantage of coming on the scene at a time when the international reputation and understanding of Brunello was at its highest. Carlo has not disappointed. He brings us a modern, forward-thinking wine rooted in the local Tuscan winemaking tradition. This vintage expresses the typical Giodo personality with black cherry, dark fruit and elegant earthy end notes. At around 18 years old, its vines are entering an interesting chapter in their lifespan and we can expect more great results from this estate." Wine Advocate
"A full-bodied Brunello with lots of plums and cherries and the character of orange peel. It is creamy and has a round texture. Soft and crisp tannins. Shows the warmth and ripeness of the 2017 vintage." James Suckling
"The refined project of Carlo and Bianca Ferrini behind a bottle that continues to surprise for qualitative merits: blackcurrant, capers and nuances of dried fruit roasted to the nose, finishing on the notes of orange peel. The mouthfeel is dense and thick with spicy tannins. The finish is fruity." Luca Gardini

Brunello di Montalcino “PS” Riserva DOCG 2012 · MAGNUM in gift box
The Brunello Riserva PS, produced only in the best vintages and thus for the first time since 2007 again in the top vintages 2010 and 2012, has a lot to offer. Rich, structured and lively bouquet of fruit and menthol. Complex, exceptionally balanced and elegant on the palate with silky tannins and a refined finish. A most impressive wine. SUPERIORE.DE
"Powerful, bright ruby with garnet rim. Compact, dark berry fruit in the nose, blackberry and raspberry, fine leather note in the background. Very present on the palate, shows lots of ripe fruit, lots of cherry, some raspberry, opens up with dense, fine-meshed tannin in many chutes, firm and very long lasting on the final." Falstaff
"Riper and rounder Brunello with plums, berries and hints of dried fruit and vanilla. Full-bodied and layered with lots of fruit. Slightly extracted tannins." James Suckling
"The 2012 Brunello di Montalcino Riserva PS is absolutely impressive, but with only 4,500 bottles made, it may not prove easy to locate. This precious expression of Sangiovese exhibits a gorgeous level of intensity and power, coupled by elegance and poise. The long presentation of aromas starts with black fruit and cherry confit and continues to crushed stone, toasted spice, cola and medicinal herb. The wine's texture sticks firmly to the palate. This Brunello ages in French oak for two years." Wine Advocate
"Rich and heady in the glass, the 2012 Brunello di Montalcino Riserva PS smolders up with a captivating mix of plum sauce, grilled sage, crushed rocks and a dusting of savory spice. Its velvety textures soothe the palate, nearly creamy in feel, while ushering in a wave of ripe red and black fruits complicated by saline-mineral tones that add an almost-crunchy feel toward the close. This remains structured and youthfully dry, with super-fine tannins that saturate, along with a tart wild berry concentration and subtle nuances of tangerine. Keep the 2012 buried deep for at least another few years, as this serious wine has a story that only time will tell. The PS hails from a 1.5-hectares parcel in the oldest part of the Pelagrilli vineyards in the Northeast of Montalcino. " Vinous
"A modern style, exuding coffee, vanilla, cherry and tobacco flavors. Vibrant, offering grip and picking up mineral accents as this winds down on the finish. An elegant, minerally red under the oak." Wine Spectator

Limitation of 1 articles per customer“Boca” Rosso Boca DOC 2011 · Double MAGNUM in OWC
After a hot August and a relatively early harvest at the end of September, owner Christoph Künzli was more than surprised by the first barrel samples. Instead of a rather ripe, muscular red, he had a wine in his glass that could hardly be surpassed in elegance. Therefore, he opted for a longer ageing and the bottling took place only after 4 years of barrel ageing. The result is a soft, extremely complex wine with a drinkability that is further enhanced by its great texture.
Powerful nose with aromas of fine spices and small red berries. On the palate, very complex and forward: The red fruits, plums and cherries furiously play around all the taste buds. A hint of liquorice, the perfectly balanced interplay of tannin and acidity flank the aromatic charge with finesse and freshness into an almost endless final. Majestic and excellently structured.
The grapes for Christoph Künzli's top wine come from the best small vineyards of the Boca DOC. The soils there consist of humus-poor porphyry of vucan origin with a light red colour and are rich in salts and minerals. This minerality of the soils and the distinctive structure and class of the Nebbiolo grape combine in the winery's flagship to create an expressive, brilliant dream of a wine that has long enjoyed cult status among connoisseurs. SUPERIORE.DE
"Le Piane's 2011 Boca is simply dazzling. Rich, translucent and remarkably vivid, the 2011 encapsulates all the reasons the wines from Alto Piemonte are so compelling. Sweet red cherry, rose petal, chalk, blood orange and mint are front and center, but it is the wine's superb textural polish that elevates it among some pretty lofty company among the great wines of Italy. The flavors are bold and pungent, but there is also striking depth to the fruit that ensures the savory notes aren't overpowering. This is simply a magical bottle. That's all there is to it." Vinous

Chianti Classico La Casuccia from a single vineyard of the same name with Gran-Selezione status combines in its typical way exemplary excellent structure with highest elegance. SUPERIORE.DE
"Sparkling, rich ruby with a light garnet edge. Cool, exciting nose, opened with pronounced spicy notes, lots of cloves, some cardamom, then full of blackberry and dark cherries. Round and extremely supple at the base and in the course, it blooms beautifully, opens with fine, elegant tannins, rich draught, lots of dark berry fruit, very long aftertaste". Falstaff
"The 2011 Chianti Classico Gran Selezione Vigneto La Casuccia is opulent and voluptuous with thick lines of dark fruit and spice that characterize the bouquet. More than heft and power, this wine delivers excellent complexity with layers of black truffle, grilled herb and cherry cola that add vertical lift." Wine Advocate
"A wine of pure femininity and grace, the 2011 Chianti Classico Gran Selezione Vigneto La Casuccia is wonderfully fleshy and radiant in the glass. Rose petal, sweet red cherry, tobacco, mint and spices meld together as this effortless, supple wine shows off its undeniably appealing personality. Sweet, silky tannins wrap around a super-expressive finish laced with knock-out aromatics. The 2011 is firing on all cylinders today." Antonio Galloni
"Rich and modern, pure and expressive, with violet, black currant, cherry and spice flavors that ride the racy profile and dense tannic structure to a long, lingering aftertaste of fruit and spice." Wine Spectator
"Amazing aromas of crushed dark fruits with raspberry, blueberry and blackberry. Dried flowers and violets too, plus tanned leather. Full body, ultra-fine yet dense tannins and a finish that lasts for minutes. Stunning texture. One of the greatest Chianti Classicos ever made." James Suckling

“Vigneto Bellavista” Chianti Classico Gran Selezione DOCG 2011 · MAGNUM in gift box
The 2011 edition of the Gran Selezione from the Bellavista vineyard is rich and dark with aromas of wild cherry, smoke, liquorice, menthol and tobacco. Extremely attractive and full-bodied on the palate, firm tannins form the backbone of this virile, potent wine. SUPERIORE.DE
"Full, dark ruby, light violet shimmer. Opened in the nose with fine spicy notes, to sandalwood, some vanilla, then full of plums. In the beginning much present fruit, opens with dense, hearty tannin, discreet earthy notes, in the finale long reverberation, fine and elegant." Falstaff
"The 2011 Chianti Classico Gran Selezione Vigneto Bellavista opens to dark concentration, bold intensity and an immediate delivery of ripe fruit flavors. Stylistically speaking, this single-vineyard Grand Selezione is extracted, muscular and extremely fruit forward. The heat of the 2011 vintage comes through loud and clear. Happily, the mouthfeel is tighter and more focused with dusty minerality on the tannins and long persistency." Wine Advocate
"Ama's 2011 Chianti Classico Gran Selezione Vigneto Bellavista shows the darker, more brooding style of Sangiovese at Ama. Graphite, smoke, tar, licorice, incense and cloves wrap around a core of dark fruit. A wine of gravitas and vertical structure, the 2011 will reward several decades of cellaring. This is an unusually stern wine for the vintage though. Readers will have to be patient to experience the Bellavista at its best. Still, I can't help notice how much the 2011 has grown in bottle over the last year." Antonio Galloni
"Rich and elegant, with black cherry, black currant, violet and boysenberry flavors allied to a sleek frame. Dense and weightless at once, with a lingering aftertaste of tobacco and tea. Presents a fine balance and aftertaste." Wine Spectator
"A fresh and layered red with blackberry, blueberry and mint character. Full body, firm tannins and a fresh finish. Minerally." James Suckling

Barolo Lazzarito DOCG 2012 · MAGNUM in OWC
Top-class, complex and modern Barolo from Serralunga: Elegant, complex bouquet of cherries and blueberries, the full-bodied taste is of considerable density and length, perfectly integrates the tannins. SUPERIORE.DE
"A rich ruby with a garnet shimmer. Presents itself in the nose with notes of liquorice, truffle and rosewood, then a lot of plum, in the background liquorice. On the palate it is striking, very substantial, deep, ripe fruit and earthy notes, opens with firm tannin in many layers, in the finish firm pressure, salty and long." Falstaff
"This Barolo offers the trademark power and integrity that is so distinctive of wines made in Serralunga d'Alba. The 2012 Barolo Lazzarito delivers muscle, brawn, and an endearing sense of confidence and determination. The is a lovely interpretation that opens to dark fruit aromas that are sharply framed by spice, tobacco, tilled earth and cooling menthol. The overall effect is generous, well-structured and full-bodied. This wine is poised to age over the next twenty years." Wine Advocate
"The 2012 Barolo Lazzarito impresses for its precision and class, two qualities that aren't easy to find in wines from this Serralunga site. Iron, smoke and white pepper lift from the glass in a vertical, structured Barolo endowed with real pedigree. A rush of pomegranate, red cherry jam, wild flowers and blood orange meld into the huge, bright finish. In 2012, the Lazzarito reconciles power and finesse like few vintages in the past. For the last few years, the Lazzarito has been knocking on the door of the big boys in this lineup, the Rocche and Ravera. Today, the Lazzarito makes a strong statement that it has arrived." "Velvety, rich ruby. Very present and fresh nose, full of plums, raspberries and cranberries, appealing. Very juicy at the base, opens with fine, dense tannin, beautiful enamel, spreads for a long time, firm pressure in the finale". Falstaff
"The 2012 Barolo Rocche di Castiglione is one of the bigger, richer wines in the lineup, which is a bit atypical. Readers should expect a huge, dramatic Rocche built on power, intensity and volume. At the same time, the Rocche is incredibly precise and layered. It is that very interplay of richness and finesse that makes the Rocche so alluring. Rose petal, mint and sweet red berries build to a crescendo of aromas, flavors and textures that takes over all the senses." Antonio Galloni

Barolo Rocche di Castiglione DOCG 2014 · MAGNUM in OWC
Barolo Rocche di Castiglione is probably the richest wine in Viettis vintage range. It is a monument based on performance, intensity and power. At the same time, Rocche is incredibly precise and multi-layered every year. It is precisely this interplay of fullness and finesse that makes the Rocche so tempting. Rose petals, mint and sweet red berries form a crescendo of aromas and textures that appeals to all the senses. In the almost endless reverberation, everything comes into harmony again as if by magic and leaves behind a Nebbiolo experience of the third kind. SUPERIORE.DE
"Plum and black cherry flavors are augmented by leather, underbrush and tobacco notes. Offers hints of chocolate and sweet spices, while the muscular structure keeps this under wraps. Delivers ample fruit and bright acidity, not to mention a lingering aftertaste. Turns silky and elegant with air." Wine Spectator
"Really shows what was possible in this difficult vintage! What a complex nose with hazelnuts, chocolate, flowers and herbs in profusion. Hints of licorice and candied citrus peel, too. Quite a major structure with bold, dry tannins, which are already very well-integrated. A really long finish." James Suckling
"This is a beautiful wine from a challenging vintage—Luca Currado tells me it reminds him of his father and his childhood. Indeed, the 2014 Barolo Rocche di Castiglione is a nostalgic wine with old-school Barolo aromas of wild berry, orange peel, hazelnuts and earthy truffle. The wine opens to a very attractive ruby color and dark garnet highlights. The mouthfeel is silky and smooth but extremely well structured at the same time. Some 150 magnums were made in this vintage because there is an expectation that this wine will age with grace and attitude." Wine Advocate
"Vietti's 2014 Barolo Rocche di Castiglione is shaping up to be a modern-day classic. Piercing, intense and austere in the best sense of the word, the Rocche is a wine of laser-like focus that will leave Barolo lovers weak in the knees. Candied cherry, pomegranate, kirsch, rose petal and violet overtones give the 2014 its inner sweetness and captivating perfume. In a word: stunning. Don't miss it." Antonio Galloni

“Camartina” Rosso Toscana IGT 2010 (BIO) · Double MAGNUM in OWC
Camartina 2010 presents itself sparkling ruby, with opulent fragrant bouquet of cloves, lots of blackberry fruit, some chocolate. On the palate very much juicy fruit, spicy notes, underlaid by grippy tannin, very clear and long. SUPERIORE.DE
"The 2010 Camartina is one of the most beautiful versions of this wine I have tasted in some time. Layered and vibrant on the palate, the 2010 impresses for its finesse and nuance. Freshly cut flowers, mint, dark red berries and graphite all meld together in a wine of exceptional refinement. Today, the aromas and flavors are naturally not fully expressive, but another few years should work wonders. The cool, late-ripening season yielded a Camartina of understated class and pedigree. This is a fabulous showing." Antonio Galloni
"A powerful red wine with an abundance of berry, dried fruits and hints of vanilla on the nose and palate. Full body, with chewy tannins and a fresh finish. Needs at least two or three years of bottle age to come together. Made from biodynamically grown grapes." James Suckling
"A vivid, fresh style, whose berry and cherry flavors are focused and augmented by tobacco, underbrush and iron notes. Tight and intense, presenting a long, mineral-inflected finish. Cabernet Sauvignon and Sangiovese." Wine Spectator
"The 2010 Camartina offers many beautiful surprises. This blend of 70% Cabernet Sauvignon and 30% Sangiovese is a structured and powerful wine, but it offers elegance and balance as well. This classic vintage has done its part to shape a wine that offers bright fruit intensity, delineated aromas of blueberry and spice, and a richly velvety sensation in the mouth. You can hold this wine for the next ten years." Wine Advocate

“Scrio” Rosso Toscana IGT 2015 · MAGNUM in gift box
Scrio - great Tuscan Syrah by Le Macchiole - is a true beauty. The persistent bouquet offers aromas of dark berries and cured meat, warm and balsamic on the palate with great intensity and dynamism, rich in extracts and long. SUPERIORE.DE
"Rich ruby violet. Inviting and intense nose with pronounced notes of plums, blueberries and blood oranges. A dense tannin on the palate, with a good feel, deep, clearly earthy tones, firm pressure in the finish, lots of tobacco." Falstaff
"Black cherry, chocolate, new leather, spice and menthol all flesh out in a wine that possesses notable power. Today, Scrio is mostly a wine of texture and density, while varietal notes are not especially evident. The oak is also quite dominant." Antonio Galloni
"Deep and saturated in both color and fruit, with core flavors of ripe plum, blackberry and black cherry, this red also offers interwoven notes of earth, vanilla, licorice and black pepper. This is solidly built, yet also polished and balanced, with a long, palate-staining finish." Wine Spectator
"It's worth noting that the Scrio was not made in 2014, as Syrah did not reach the right maturity for the quality Le Macchiole looks for. The 2015 growing season wasn't much easier, with 15 days of extreme heat in July. August brought cooler weather, and so they tried to slow down the ripening process by doing very little green harvest. This vintage is marked by more pepper than fruit, but it's still a beautiful effort, and I see a lot of potential for aging this wine. The 2015 Scrio is made with a more reductive approach overall, and this vintage needs a year or two to open fully. Only 3,000 bottles were made." Wine Advocate
"A stunning syrah; the real McCoy for the variety. The depth of aroma takes your breath away with bark, tea leaves, peppermint, dried rosemary, thyme, sage, pressed violets, cedar, creme de cassis, blackcurrants and lavender. The palate is incredibly tight and yet, profound in its delivery of flavors. Full body, layer upon layer of fruit of every color on the spectrum, pinpoint acidity and a finish that seems endless." James Suckling

Barolo Rocche di Castiglione DOCG 2015 · MAGNUM in OWC
Barolo Rocche di Castiglione is probably the richest wine in Viettis vintage range. It is a monument based on performance, intensity and power. At the same time, Rocche is incredibly precise and multi-layered every year. It is precisely this interplay of fullness and finesse that makes the Rocche so tempting. Rose petals, mint and sweet red berries form a crescendo of aromas and textures that appeals to all the senses. In the almost endless reverberation, everything comes into harmony again as if by magic and leaves behind a Nebbiolo experience of the third kind. SUPERIORE.DE
"The 2015 Barolo Rocche di Castiglione is incredibly inviting from the very first taste. Silky and aromatic, the Rocche shows plenty of the classiness that is such a signature of this Castiglione Falletto site. As with all of these 2015s, readers will have to be patient. The 2015 gains striking volume and resonance with time in the glass, but a few years in bottle are an absolute must for the wine to show at its very best." Vinous
"A rich, almost opulent style, this Barolo delivers cherry, raspberry, plum and eucalyptus flavors on a base of stiff tannins. Turns vibrant and chewy, with a solid, minerally finish." Wine Spectator
"Along with the Ravera, the 2015 Barolo Rocche di Castiglione has a very fresh feeling (they are both grown with less direct sunlight). Indeed, there are many similarities between these two prestigious Barolos from Vietti, but the differences start with the vinification methods. While the Ravera sees malolactic fermentation in stainless steel, the Rocche di Castiglione completes that phase in botte. To continue the comparison, these two wines are certainly more closed than the other Barolo crus from this producer, the Lazzarito and the Brunate, which blossom and open more quickly. Even though it is a bit shy, the defining characteristics of herbaceous rosemary and balsamic notes show up well in this vintage of the Rocche di Castiglione, a vineyard site that prizes elegance above all else." Wine Advocate
"A hauntingly complex and finely detailed nose that touches so many different characters. Roses, dried wood, cedar, fine brown spices, light earthy notes, warm stones, mountain herbs and leaves. All here – very complex. The density and weight is exceptional, as is the fine, firm weave of tannins. The length is staggering and the tautness and balance are captivating. One of the stars of the vintage!" James Suckling

Barolo Brunate DOCG 2013 · MAGNUM in OWC
Barolo Brunate from luxuriant, fertile location in La Morra, shines with concentration and wealth. Elegant bouquet of dark cherries, plums and a hint of citrus fruit. The taste is full-bodied, but never powerful. Wonderfully structured, granular tannin, good acidity. Brunate 2013 requires some patience, which is however rewarded with a wonderful drop. SUPERIORE.DE
"Shiny ruby garnet. Intense nose, ripe raspberries, strawberries, dark cherries, cloves. Juicy and supple in the attack and course, present fruit, opens with fine-meshed tannin, catchy in the finish." Falstaff
"Pure cherry, strawberry and floral flavors, plus flashes of eucalyptus and wild herb, mark this supple, bright red. Firms up toward the finish yet remains balanced, refined and long, with a lingering aftertaste of cherry, tobacco and mineral." Wine Spectator
"Very focused young Barolo with lots of aromas of crushed strawberries and raspberries. Hints of lilacs, too. Full to medium body, very fine tannins and a persistent and beautiful finish." James Suckling
"Like the other important Nebbiolo-based wines made by Vietti, the 2013 Barolo Brunate follows the house style that sees longer maceration times and submerged cap fermentation. This results in exceptional fullness and plushness in terms of texture that transcends the mouthfeel. The wine's expressive bouquet shows open and frank aromas of dark fruit, tar, road paving, crushed stone and black truffle. This vintage also shows a savory or foxy touch of old leather or spice. I'd suggest a medium-term drinking window. Luca Currado presents his wines in ascending order of power." Wine Advocate
"Vietti's 2013 Barolo Brunate is one of the most reticent, powerful and explosive wines in the range. Huge beams of tannin give the wine its energy and overall shape. Readers will have to be especially patient with the 2013, as it is built for the long haul. As...in the very long haul. The gravitas and overall muscularity of Brunate is quite evident, but the wine remains raw, powerful and in need of significant bottle age. Today, the tannins are searing, which adds to the wine's brooding personality. This is the first vintage that includes old-vine fruit that used to go to Oberto and Marengo from a parcel Vietti acquired a few years ago." Antonio Galloni
