“Ignaccio” Rosso di Montalcino DOC 2022
Here is a wine that fulfils a very specific and important objective: It is exactly the bottle you want when you are sitting in front of your favourite meal with your favourite family or friends. Rosso di Montalcino Ignaccio stands for fruit, elegance, energy, good humour, accessibility and informality. It comes out of the bottle with a bright ruby red colour and exudes delicate aromas of wild berries, blue flowers and slight hints of sweet spices. There is that subtle note of freshly ground white pepper again in this vintage that you only see in cool climate Sangiovese or other wild indigenous Italian grape varieties. It is amazing how Il Marroneto manages to produce such a fruity and at the same time absolutely harmonious Rosso (6,000 bottles produced) year after year. SUPERIORE.DE
"Dark, bright, rich ruby red colour. Dark fruity nose, rich cherry, rich plum, roasted almond, reminiscent of dried sage on the finish. Hearty on the palate, full-bodied with deep, dark fruit and compact tannins, plus beautiful juiciness, rich and full-bodied." Falstaff
"The 2022 Rosso di Montalcino Ignaccio is exotic with a seductive blend of spiced blood orange, wild strawberries, rose petals and a dusting of spice. Juicy and vividly fresh, it sweeps across the palate with ripe raspberry and cherry-berry fruits while taking on a coating of chalky minerality toward the close. Sour citrus enlivens the experience as this finishes long and staining yet still remarkably fresh. The mouth waters for more under an air of violet inner florals. Simply spellbinding. This is already a total pleasure, yet it has the balance for short-term cellaring." Vinous
"The Il Marroneto 2022 Rosso di Montalcino Ignaccio is underlined by brightness and freshness with forest berry fruits, blue flower and navel orange." Wine Advocate
"A scented red full of intoxicating aromas of sweet violets, cinnamon, smoke, woodland, slate, minerals and orange peel. Crisp, exuberant acidity on the palate with velvety tannins and a chalky, medium- to full-bodied and polished finish." James Suckling

“Sogni e Follia” Rosso di Montalcino DOC 2020 · MAGNUM
At Podere le Ripi, the grapes for the Rosso di Montalcino are given more time in the cellar than elsewhere, making the wine more similar to a Brunello than a Rosso. Deep ruby red in colour with orange reflections. A captivating symphony of aromas on the nose, ranging from cherry, strawberry and violet to fresh balsamic herbs. On the palate, an impressive, broad structure, beautifully interwoven primary and secondary flavours, a fine minerality and a remarkably long finish. The longer ageing period really pays off! SUPERIORE.DE
"The 2020 Rosso di Montalcino Sogni e Follia is wild and exotic, with a tantalising mix of rose petals, cinnamon sticks and mentholated cherries making up its bouquet. The balance between the silky texture, ripe wild berries, zesty orange and juicy acidity is extremely attractive to me. The 2020 leaves a layer of soft grippy tannins but keeps the energy high and finishes with medium length as the violet florals slowly fade inside." Vinous
"It shows dark concentration with lifted aromas of dried raspberry, cocktail cherry, dried garden herb and cinnamon. It is an unusual wine but charming nevertheless." Wine Advocate

“Colto” Rosso di Montalcino DOC 2020
"Bright ruby red colour. Very pure and concentrated on the nose, with juicy sour cherry fruit. Smooth, long, fresh and expressive." Jancis Robinson
"Here is a new submission from Castello Romitorio with 6,600 bottles released. The 2020 Rosso di Montalcino Colto is a true Sangiovese with a lean, tart texture and lots of wild berry flavours. These flavours fade into forest floor, cola and rosemary twigs." Wine Advocate
"This red is ripe and dense, with a fleshy texture and granular tannins supporting cherry, plum, iron, earth and tobacco flavors. Remains fresh and persistent through the lingering aftertaste." Wine Spectator
"The Rosso di Montalcino Colto 2020 is spicy and strongly perfumed. It shows raspberries, dried violets, spiced orange peel and a hint of smoke. The 2020 Rosso di Montalcino Colto washes over the palate with undeniable elegance, contrasting a savoury note with vibrant ripe fruit and a hint of acidic citrus that flashes towards the finish. It leaves a hint of blue and violet-coloured flowers and a residue of acidity that retains a wonderful freshness. The 2020 is very balanced and conveys both opulence and seriousness. The Colto is a selection from all of Romitorio's vineyards, including a 10-hectare plot of experimental clones from across Tuscany that is now 14 years old." Vinous
"A delicious, soft and balanced Rosso with aromas and flavours of dark cherries and plums. Notes of dried flowers and spicy oak are also recognisable. Almost full-bodied with very silky, well-integrated tannins that give the wine a plump, almost chalky texture. Long finish with fruit-soaked minerals. Very well made. Only 6,000 bottles produced." “Giovanni Neri” Rosso di Montalcino DOC 2021
Neris Edel-Rosso was born with the purchase of a very special vineyard. True to the winery's philosophy of only producing wines from the best terroirs around Montalcino, the small 7-hectare plot with over 45 years of vines was finally acquired in 2018. This was preceded by over 40 years of friendship with the previous owners, with whom Giovanni Neri planted the vines and nurtured and cared for them over the past decades. Incidentally, the best grapes from this vineyard have been used for a small quantity of the Brunello di Montalcino of the same name since the 2018 vintage.
Fine aroma of strawberries, herbs and young leather. Taut and lively on the palate, the Sangiovese fruit is very precisely nuanced, flanked by powerful but by no means aggressive tannins. Long and round on the palate, with remarkable freshness and cheerfulness. Will continue to improve over the next few years with further bottle ageing. SUPERIORE.DE
"Dark ruby red with violet shimmer. Elegant, elegant nose. Lots of ripe fruit, blueberry and cherry, subtle herbal spice. Dense and harmonious on the palate, with more spicy notes, reminiscent of black pepper and juniper, perfectly integrated acidity and fully ripe tannins, pleasantly warming, lingers for a long time." Falstaff
"The 2021 Rosso di Montalcino Giovanni Neri is punchy and bright with a vinous quality that underlines the wine's freshness and its youthful character. The bouquet is extremely clean and transparent, and you can peer through the red cherry fruit and raspberry to crushed stone and chalky dryness. It shows a beautiful color in the glass that matches the aromatic clarity offered to the nose." Wine Advocate

"Bright ruby red colour. Great, expressive nose, rich berry fruit, clear, shows great spicy notes, reminiscent of milk chocolate in the aftertaste. Juicy, compact on the palate with savoury, gripping tannins and clear fruit, slightly salty on the finish." Falstaff
"Quite a primary, fruit-conscious Rosso di Montalcino that shows color and vibrancy. Spiced plums, dark earth, black cherries and touches of blue fruit and minerals. Ripe, tight and juicy, with some chewy, vertical tannins and a long finish. A modern Rosso." James Suckling
"The 2022 Rosso di Montalcino Giovanni Neri is marvellous. Perfumed and fruit-driven, it impresses with a bouquet of violets, roses, spiced citrus fruits and sage. It is juicy to the core. Tactile mineral tones emphasise a pure blend of cherries and strawberries. The 2022 finishes with tremendous length and concentration, more like a Brunello than a Rosso, with fine-grained tannins humming under a hint of sweet lavender." Vinous

Rosso di Montalcino DOC 2021 (BIO)
Poggio di Sotto's Rosso di Montalcino is a fragrant and feminine effort, showing dusty roses and violets with bright cherry and strawberry fruit in the glass. Hints of cedar and floral undergrowth emerge over time to complete the expression. It is silky to the touch and energetic with mineral, ripe red berries, spices and inner flowers carried by juicy acids. Liquorice and a sweet and sour note of wild berries linger along with a gentle layer of fine tannin that only becomes noticeable towards the end. Great development potential. SUPERIORE.DE
"Bright ruby red with purple nuances. Elegant, expressive bouquet of juicy heart cherry, juniper, saddle leather and undergrowth. Glides silky and with finesse over the palate, fruity-sweet and precise on finely woven tannins, long and recurring finish." Falstaff
"Restrained raspberries, leather, violets and cherry stones with rusty minerality. Supple palate with full body, tension from lifted acidity and dense, velvety tannins. Precise and long-lasting finish. One of the best in its category in a promising vintage." James Suckling
"The 2021 Rosso di Montalcino is dark and intense, with an abundance of smoky black cherries, sage and incense. It has a core of ripe wild berries, underlined by salty minerals and savoury spice accompanied by zesty acidity. The 2021 finishes structured and long, with a concentration that reminds me more of a Brunello than a Rosso, leaving grippy tannins and a hint of sour citrus that keeps me coming back to the glass." Rosso di Montalcino DOC 2020
Bright red colour. Sweet spices such as cinnamon, nutmeg and vanilla complement the aromas of dark red and black cherries on the fresh, sexy nose. Lively, juicy and sweet on the palate, but with a tactile mouthfeel and spicy flavours of red cherries, herbs and sassafras. The youthful, crisp finish, which emphasises notable but polished oak nuances, is pleasantly persistent. A real plus point is the balance of this wine, it is a spicy, well-structured Rosso on a clear Brunello level and a real beauty! SUPERIORE.DE
"Crushed stones, wild strawberries and dusty dried flowers form a seductive bouquet when the Rosso di Montalcino 2020 opens in the glass. It is elegant and feminine in style, with soft textures and ripe red fruits, while chalky tannins build towards the finish. The 2020 tapers off grippy, but with a hint of residual acidity. The orange flavours retain a lovely freshness. The Rosso from Pian dell'Orino is one of the top performers year after year." Vinous
"The Pian dell'Orino 2020 Rosso di Montalcino is an open-knit expression with a friendly and accessible side. It delivers balanced freshness against a firm structural backbone, and both contribute to the wine's general brightness and richness." Wine Advocate

Rosso di Montalcino DOC 2021
Pian dell'Orino's Rosso di Montalcino 2021 impresses with bright and crisp fruit that is impossible to resist. If a Rosso can taste this good, we can look forward to great things when the 2021 Brunello wines come onto the market. The fruit is bright, firm and pure. Wonderfully tactile mouthfeel with spicy flavours of red cherries, herbs and sassafras. The youthful, crisp finish, which highlights notable but polished oak nuances, is pleasantly persistent. A real plus point is the balance of this wine, it is an absolute beauty. SUPERIORE.DE
"The Pian dell'Orino 2021 Rosso di Montalcino is very concentrated and precise. At this young stage, it is still a little closed, but this quality gives us even more confidence in its successful development in the bottle. The fruit comes from different vineyard parcels. There is a hint of green, which should disappear with time, and the wine shows tart cherry fruit, rye bread and a hint of red beer." Wine Advocate
"Bottled just a fortnight ago, the 2021 Rosso di Montalcino presents itself in the glass with a lovely blend of cedar spices, dried cherries and hints of sage. It is cool and racy in flavour, with crisp red berry fruit and exotic spices that blossom towards the end. It leaves a layer of fine tannins and a pleasing sense of chewiness as it tapers off with ample length and concentration. The 2021 is incredibly young and still a little closed, but it is full of potential." Vinous

Rosso di Montalcino “Greppo” DOC 2020
The Rosso di Montalcino comes from slightly younger Brunello vines and is matured for 12 months in large oak barrels. It undoubtedly bears the signature of the top winery Biondi Santi: delicately sweet, open flavours of red berries, flowers and cloves. Like all of the winery's other wines, the Rosso is classic and firm in style, with a bombastic structure and a brilliant, long finish. True to the house, it also has a long ageing and maturation potential and can compete with some of the Brunello wines of the appellation today and in the future. SUPERIORE.DE
"Pale ruby red colour. Slightly restrained nose. Structured, sweet fruit on the palate, with real drive and grip on the finish. Admirably long. Really very exciting! Pure, fully ripe Sangiovese. Powerful and a great balance between fruit and the natural tannin and acidity of the grape. Simply marvellous! Already a great drink, but with enough ripe tannin to go on and on." Jancis Robinson
"Generous aromas of ripe strawberries and cherries that develop into flowers and stones with some crushed cement. Medium-bodied with firm tannins that fill the mouth, as well as lively acidity and depth of fruit. Spicy and almost salty on the finish." James Suckling
"The 2020 Rosso di Montalcino is simply stunning. It emerges from the glass with vibrant raspberry and cherry notes complemented by sweet roses, cloves and cedar. This model of purity is silky and refined, with a dusty feel to its ripe red berry fruit. Orange notes provide contrast on the finish. It ends structured and long, still remarkably pure, with a slightly bitter hint that slowly fades. This fabulous Rosso from Biondi-Santi shows the work that has been done in recent years." Vinous
"The Biondi-Santi 2020 Rosso di Montalcino is a very expressive and generous wine with perfumed aromas of softly fragrant heritage rose, violet, redcurrant and rosemary essence. Those herbal notes come out nicely in this vintage, and there is elegantly chalky tannin to close. This vintage saw rain in June and higher temperatures later in the summer. This wine is drinking beautifully now and offers a pleasantly immediate drinking style." Wine Advocate
"The nose is floral and sweet, but refreshing thanks to the clean, balancing flavours of mint and dirt. On the palate, this freshness goes a step further, to a light, bouncy, almost astringent level. The precocious tannins are young but dense and supportive, while the jubilant acidity sings." Wine Enthusiast

“Selezione Jacopo” Rosso di Montalcino DOC 2021
In just a few years, Alessandro Mori's wines have made Il Marroneto one of Montalcino's most famous wineries. Today, he runs the company together with his son Jacopo. The wines reflect their passionate, simple and outspoken character, which appears reserved and austere at first glance, but slowly opens up to reveal a harmonious synthesis of elegance and power. In 2019, he decided to produce a selection from some of his best grapes - named after his son Jacopo - and in such small quantities that we are the only ones on the German market to be allocated a few cases. SUPERIORE.DE
"Bright, elegant ruby red colour. Very fragrant nose of rose hips, raspberries, light butter biscuits, with fine stony notes. Great, expressive fruit on the palate, sweet, coated in compact tannins, polished and full of finesse, long, great Rosso!" Falstaff
"The 2021 Rosso di Montalcino Selezione Iacopo emerges from the glass with a gorgeous, dusty bouquet of sweet rose and candied spices that complement dried strawberries. On the palate, it has a seamless, silky texture and admirable depth, blending ripe red fruit with blood orange and cloves, all accompanied by juicy acidity. The finish is dramatically long and powerful, with hints of raspberry jam and tactile mineral tones underscored by a touch of candied orange. This seductive version of Selezione Iacopo is already very rich in many ways and has the balance to develop beautifully over time." Vinous
"The Il Marroneto 2021 Rosso di Montalcino Iacopo is packed with primary fruits, bright cherries and all kinds of berries, raspberries and redcurrants. There are also Christmas spices, cloves, cinnamon and dried orange peel. The mouthfeel is very lively with nice dusty tannins and a pleasant freshness. This is a great Rosso that brings you closer to the lighter and fresher side of Montalcino." Wine Advocate
