The history of this exceptional wine estate is extraordinary, even in Tuscany, which is certainly not short on history. The name San Giusto a Rentennano bears witness to its Etruscan origins. The oldest part of the magnificent estate was a monastery in the Middle Ages, first mentioned in 1204, and was later expanded into a fortress, whose towers and battlements still tower imposingly over the hills of southern Tuscany near Gaiole in Chianti.
The hills around Gaiole are one of the most exciting wine-growing regions in Tuscany, because nowhere else are the geological conditions so varied. The subsoil changes every few hundred metres and the vines take root in different forms every few metres. From sandy, loess and clay soils to volcanic rock formations, from limestone soils to rock with argillites and calcium. Here you can really speak of minerality.
Even the "normal" Chianti Classico is distinguished from almost all others by its elegance. The Chianti Classico Riserva "Le Baròncole" impresses with its fruit and depth – and the legendary "Percarlo", a selection from the oldest vineyards, whose calcareous soils date back to the Pliocene, has probably been one of the best pure Sangiovese wines in Italy for several decades.
The unique style of the wines is reflected in numerous international and Italian awards, and as there is hardly a renowned Italian restaurant that does not have the wines from San Giusto a Rentennano on its menu, there are unfortunately only very few bottles available for export. The new vintages, some of which are strictly limited, have just arrived, including Percarlo 2020, which received the full score of 100/100 from Antonio Galloni. We hope you enjoy discovering these truly masterful wines. SUPERIORE.DE
