Brunello di Montalcino “Vallocchio” DOCG 2019
Produced in small quantities, Vallocchio clearly stands out from pure Brunello di Montalcino. Darker, deeper and more mystical, it shows notes of ripe blackberries and plums, complemented by exotic brown spices and a hint of lemon confit. Its texture is like velvet stretching across the palate, black-fruited and ripe, underpinned by minerals and cooling herbal notes. It is youthfully monolithic and dense, revealing its austere tannin core only towards the end, where notes of black tea, liquorice and a hint of cocoa emerge. SUPERIORE.DE
"Ripe, intense, mineral-spicy bouquet with dark cherries, redcurrants, cassis and rose bushes. Juicy, elegant palate with fine-grained tannins, very intense, powerful and engaging on the palate, combining the ripeness with the freshness of the vintage." Weinwisser
"Aromas of raspberries and herbs are pleasing on the nose, the wood is well integrated; compact texture, robust tannins, lively acidity, pleasantly fruity finish." Vinum
"Transparent, firm and quite deep nose with noble red and black berry aromas, some tomato, slightly smoky barrel notes, bacon and dried Mediterranean herbs. Ripe, juicy, dense fruit, still relatively present, somewhat bitter chocolate, smoky and roasted wood spice, youthful, present, yet fine and ripe tannin, a little Mediterranean herbs on the palate, dark ethereal spice, lots of power, but also cooling elements, some coffee grounds in the background, good depth, very good, firm finish with dark juice and spice. Needs to mature." Wein-Plus
"Bright ruby garnet colour. Initially restrained on the nose, opens up to pepper, dried kitchen herbs and wild berries, with plum in the background. Inviting on the palate, rich, juicy cherry fruit, savoury, still young in the mid-palate, nicely salty on the final." Falstaff
"Grown in the south-east of Montalcino, this wine is customarily ripe and powerful, but balances its components - a powerful body, generous alcohol and a rich structure. Noticeable oak nuances of sweet spice and vanilla are at the forefront, but a foundation of pure cherry and dark plum simmers at the core." Decanter
"Well marked by new oak, this version adds a vanilla note and a layer of tannins to its cherry, floral and iron flavours, all supported by a solid structure. In the end, it finds a nice balance and a sense of elegance." Wine Spectator
"The Brunello di Montalcino Vallocchio 2019 is spicy and earthy in the glass, with a beguiling mix of ash stones, undergrowth and a hint of animal musk opening the stage and giving way to mentholated black cherries. It feels velvety and almost creamy on the palate, with a rich blend of ripe red and black fruits emphasised by salty minerals. Grippy tannins are added towards the end. The 2019 finishes structured and impressively long, with a hint of pine shavings and a bitter tang that lingers on and on. It should be stored in the cellar." Vinous
"Flavours of crushed berries and flowers with some bark and mushrooms. Medium to full body with medium, round tannins and fresh acidity. Nice balance and finesse." James Suckling
"The Fanti 2019 Brunello di Montalcino Vallocchio shows a pronounced savoury side with tobacco leaf, roasted chestnut shells, dark plums, honeycomb or honey roasted almonds. The tannins are dissolved, almost silky, and there is plenty of concentrated fruit to develop the rich texture. The alcohol content is 15%, but is well integrated into the dark fruitiness of the wine." Wine Advocate
"A selection from the five most historic vineyards, a mosaic of excellence. Black cherry on the nose, with hints of chinotto and lemon thyme. The mouthfeel is reminiscent of citrus fruits and black cherry, a hint of roasted nuts and ends with official notes." Luca Gardini

“Vicoregio 36” Chianti Classico Gran Selezione DOCG 2019
Historically, the vineyards of Castello di Fonterutoli are located in the areas of three neighbouring municipalities of Chianti Classico: Castellina in Chianti, Castelnuovo Berardenga and Radda in Chianti. With the 2017 vintage, the Mazzei family has for the first time vinified all three large vineyards separately as Chianti Classico Gran Selezione to reflect the diversity of the terroir: Castello di Fonterutoli, Vicoregio 36 and Badiòla.
Vicoregio 36 is the successor to the ambitious Mix 36 and, since 2017, a true Chianti Classico Gran Selezione. As a result of 50 years of research, 36 biotypes of the Sangiovese grape were planted on a sunny plateau near Castelnuova Berardenga, from which this extremely interesting and independent wine was created a few years ago. The overall impression is very balanced and straightforward with hints of red cherries, spices, dried blueberries and tobacco. It is the warmest and most balanced of the three Gran Selezione wines. Its intensity, richness of colour and precise fruit instantly captivate the Sangiovese lover. SUPERIORE.DE
"Raspberry-scented seducer with floral and herbal notes; flattering on the palate, silky tannin, embedded in fine acidity, ends long and fresh. Pleases with its elegance and no-frills style. Among the best cuts of Viennese beef cuisine." Vinum
"Bright ruby red. In the nose initially marked by rich noble wood, then after blood orange and fresh raspberries, pink roses in the finish. Compact and with clear fruit on the palate, shows itself polished and radiant, pithy, minimal afterdrying in the final." Falstaff
"Deep ruby red with orange reflections. Brooding and with the faintest suggestion of gingerbread and sweet oak. In this youthful state, the palate is similar to that of the Castello di Fonterutoli Gran Selezione of the same vintage, but this is slightly richer and with firmer, if polished, tannins. Enormous length. Monumental and far from finished." Jancis Robinson
"Mazzei's expression of the Vagliagli commune comes from a vineyard planted with 36 different Sangiovese biotypes, the result of 50 years of research. At an altitude of 350 metres, it is the lowest of the winery's three Gran Selezione sites and also the most expansive and supple. It leads with mocha, dried cherry and balsam wood and wears its oak well. The purity of the red berries shows on the palate with toasty flavours. This wine is full yet gracefully structured, with appetisingly integrated acidity." Decanter
"This classy red boasts a core of ripe, juicy plum, cherry and blackberry fruit framed by a subtle touch of new oak and a mineral underpinning. Reveals refined tannins, which should come into the fold over the next five to seven years as this integrates fully. Shows terrific balance and length, with finesse and complexity." Wine Spectator
"This is the third vintage in which this wine has the Gran Selezione designation. The fruit comes from an experimental vineyard at an altitude of 350 metres with compact clay soils (with some stones for loosening), good aeration and a dominant southern exposure. The property is 12.5 hectares and was acquired in 1997. Following the graceful 2018 vintage, the Mazzei 2019 Chianti Classico Gran Selezione Castello di Fonterutoli Vicoregio 36 shows medium-bodied concentration and sweet tannins with plenty of dark fruit, spice, scrub and wild mint." Wine Advocate
"A very straightforward and fine Chianti Classico with crisp cherry fruit and a hint of minerals. Medium body. Crisp and lively finish. Closed and dense on the mid palate." James Suckling

“Alberelli di Giodo” Nerello Mascalese Sicilia DOC 2020
The annual production of this boutique winery on Etna is just 9,000 bottles. At an altitude of 950 metres above sea level, the one and a half hectares of vines are divided into eight tiny plots and have been gradually bought up by the well-known Oenologist. The area is planted with Nerello Mascalese bush vines, which have been spared the phylloxera phylloxera and make their way through the lava-covered terraces.
The single vines, which are on average 80 to 100 years old, are cultivated in the traditional, low-bush Alberello style, to which the wine owes its name. Alberelli di Giodo is extremely elegant and flavoursome and represents the minerality and finesse typical of its volcanic growing region to a remarkable degree. SUPERIORE.DE
"From ancient bush trees in high vineyards: finely chiselled aromas of raspberries and blossoms, also balsamic facets; noble texture, the acidity and tannins wonderfully modelled, long, fresh and fruity and yet extremely elegant. Very successful." Vinum
"Bright, light ruby red colour. Intriguing nose, delicate fruity notes, reminiscent of raspberries and cherries, followed by dried herbs and a hint of black truffle. Lively and precise on the palate, starts with a lot of juice, firm tannin structure and dancing acidity, spicy final, good length." Falstaff
"Transparent ruby red colour. Rich and yet with plenty of pace. And some light animal notes." Jancis Robinson
"Cola, tobacco, cinnamon and baked cherries. Freshness and lift from the start, super fresh with a juicy succulence that is so inviting. A clean palate with a gentle flavour drive. Feels well crafted with finesse. Balanced with so much juicy goodness, lovely velvety tannins and sweet strawberry, raspberry and pomegranate fruit on the palate. It will also develop superbly with time in the glass. This wine certainly has power, depth and vigour. A wine to age." Decanter
"A medium-bodied, very dense and precise red wine with focused, firm tannins framing smooth layers of cranberry, blackberry, stone, slate and tobacco. Also a hint of dried fruit. Mineral and stony. The wine has the character of old vines, with plenty of bark and spice on the finish. Try it from 2024 onwards." James Suckling
"The 2020 Sicilia Nerello Mascalese from Carlo Ferrini opens with a beautiful ruby red colour and an elegant, slender appearance. The wine offers tart cherry fruit, cassis, blue flowers, iron ore and orange peel. These different layers come together with balanced intensity. This vintage shows tremendous elegance and tannins that melt slowly and persistently on the palate. This bottle offers a very authentic and classic expression of the Sicilian volcano." Wine Advocate
"It is a pure Nerello Mascalese, preceded by a measured maceration on the skins and then refined in tonneaux. It has notes of black cherry, a hint of rhubarb, a touch of marjoram and black peppercorns. Spicy on the palate, with a fruity, spicy finish and hints of undergrowth." Luca Gardini

“Fontalloro” Rosso Toscana IGT 2020
The Fontalloro is a single-varietal Sangiovese that is matured for up to 20 months in new and two-year-old barriques.brilliant ruby colour with a light garnet rim, mineral, woody-fruity aroma of cherry, cedar, blueberry and hazelnut. With aeration, the flavours become increasingly complex and the terroir influence very clear. Compact and very present on the palate with fine-grained tannins and classic proportions. Very high ageing potential and one of the best Sangiovese in central Tuscany every year. SUPERIORE.DE
"Bright ruby red with a delicately brightening rim. On the nose, initially fresh yeast pastries, then juicy cherries, watermelon and redcurrants, minimal alcoholic aftertaste, precious wood. Taut tannins and beautiful acidity on the palate, savoury, then becomes a little more expansive on the finish, albeit juicy." Falstaff
"The Fontalloro 2020 is a sensual, enveloping wine. Dark red fruits, sweet spices, tobacco, cedar and mint are all beautifully pronounced. Fontalloro is a pure Sangiovese from vineyards located between the Chianti Classico and Colli Senesi appellations. The duality is very evident here." Vinous
"Very refined and complex nose with hints of pine cones, botanicals and dark mushrooms to savoury oranges, minerals, fine musk and plums. Juicy, dry but structured on the palate with stacks of dusty tannins developing on the savoury, full-bodied palate. Long and quite mineral on the finish. Better from 2025." James Suckling
"A vibrant red with fleeting aromas of lavender and wild rosemary mingling with flavours of cherry, orange peel, earth, minerals and tobacco. Despite its youthful vigour, it is elegant, with excellent harmony, refined tannins and a long, complex aftertaste." Wine Spectator
"Intriguing entry with notes of ripe stone fruit, red berries, sandalwood, undergrowth and fine spice; with aeration a lot of fullness and also pressure, without missing the charm, the tannins fine-grained, the finish very long and with maturity potential." Vinum
"The 2020 Fontalloro, made from a special selection of Sangiovese, is generous and rich, the wine has a medium-dark colour and is concentrated. The winemaking team has succeeded in giving this vintage a particularly elegant side. The wine offers pronounced notes of cherry and wild plum with delicate spice in the background. As with the other wines in this portfolio, there is a beautiful mineral note that runs like a common thread through all of these new releases." Wine Advocate
"100% Sangiovese from two parcels located between Chianti Classico and Chianti Colli Senesi. A wine that shows hints of black cherry, rhubarb and juniper on the nose, with notes of eucalyptus and wild mint. The sip is taut, with spicy tannins. The finish is deep, the aftertaste fruity and balsamic." Luca Gardini

“Badiòla” Chianti Classico Gran Selezione DOCG 2019
Historically, the vineyards of Castello di Fonterutoli are located in the areas of three neighbouring municipalities of Chianti Classico: Castellina in Chianti, Castelnuovo Berardenga and Radda in Chianti. With the 2017 vintage, the Mazzei family has for the first time vinified all three large vineyards separately as Chianti Classico Gran Selezione to reflect the diversity of the terroir: Castello di Fonterutoli, Vicoregio 36 and Badiòla.
Badiòla is the historic name of a vineyard in the municipality of Radda, whose grapes have been vinified separately as Gran Selezione by the Mazzei family since the 2017 vintage. Bright ruby, a restrained but clear nose of wild berries, blue flowers, undergrowth, and hints of dark pepper. On the palate, Badiòla is masterfully balanced, almost weightless. The very well integrated tannin makes it seem supple from the first to the last glass and impresses with a long finish - its elegance is great! SUPERIORE.DE
"Homely bouquet of wild berries, spices and tobacco; harmonious on the palate, fine-grained tannins, accentuated acidity, stylish finish on notes of maraschino cherries and pepper." Vinum
"Medium ruby red with orange reflections. The most compact of the winery's three Gran Selezioni. Elegant, soft fruit that is less baroque than elegant. Long, tangy finish of raspberries and cherries with supple but long tannins." Jancis Robinson
"A juicy and ripe wine with freshness and brightness for the Radda zone in Chianti Classico. Medium-bodied. Spicy. Orange peel." James Suckling
"The 2019 Chianti Classico Gran Selezione Castello di Fonterutoli Badiòla is a refined and elegant wine with precise aromas of cherry, blackberry, spice, earth and pressed violet. The six-hectare site consists of a mixture of slate Galestro soils and sandstone. The mineral signature is beautiful in this wine." Wine Advocate
"The great Gran Selezione of Mazzei, from three different Sangiovese clones and a mass selection. A wine of great gustatory-olfactory impact, with notes of berry jam, wild mint and gardenia, with iodine sensations. Iodine on the palate too, with a fruity-floral return and flavourful compactness." “Concerto 40 anni” Rosso Toscana IGT 2021
Concerto was born in 1981, a time of dynamic change in Italian viticulture. The previously untapped potential was recognised and experiments were made with new grape varieties and, for the first time, successfully with international grape varieties. Produced from 80% Sangiovese and 20% Cabernet Sauvignon, the Rosso Toscana Concerto was one of the pioneers of the later phenomenon of the Supertuscans and was one of the region's elite wines for a long time.
Intense, bright ruby red colour. Rich bouquet of redcurrant, cherry, spices and a delicate hint of vanilla. Endless fruit on the palate, dense and full-bodied, with velvety tannins and a very subtle acid wire in the background. SUPERIORE.DE
"Dark, intense colour. Sweet, fragrant and with fine fruit, the Concerto smells from the glass and shows a lot of Sangiovese flavour and a captivating sweetness. It does not reach the fullness of the 2020 and the overall flavour remains a little lighter in tone. With high intensity, the Concerto 2021 is then somewhat less full in the mouth with excellent extract sweetness. Dense and taut, polished and long, with a very straightforward structure and tightly woven, fine tannins. Great, penetrating Concerto with lots of juice, the wood shines through a little on the finish." Weinwisser
"Rich, deep dark ruby colour. Presents itself on the nose with notes of tobacco and liquorice, dark, ripe plums, some wild berries. Rich and at the same time polished on the palate, builds beautifully, velvety, well-integrated tannins, has firm pressure, long finish." Falstaff
"The Concerto di Fonterutoli 2021, an assemblage of Sangiovese and Cabernet Sauvignon from Mazzei, is full-bodied and full-toned from the ground up. Strong, red fruits, blood orange, cedar and spices combine effortlessly with soft, silky tannins to round off the whole. Today, the Sangiovese is very expressive." Vinous
"It's spicy and vibrant with a blend of red and dark berries, dried citrus peel, chilli pepper and spicy herbs. Also a hint of bark. Full-bodied with polished tannins and a chalky, powdery texture. The juicy acidity comes into its own. Shows depth and concentration. Racy and long. Better from 2026." James Suckling
"The 2021 Concerto di Fonterutoli is a very extracted wine that carries its fruit weight over a long and velvety mouthfeel. The wine delivers dark fruit, cherry liqueur, spice and smoked tobacco. This is a modern Tuscan wine with broad shoulders, powerful structure and rich texture. It needs a few more years of bottle ageing to smooth out the tannins." Wine Advocate
"Despite the hot summer of 2021, the nights were cool, which allowed the healthy grapes to fully ripen and contributed to the finesse of the tannins. The Mazzei family has made a great leap in quality, resulting in a wine with greater purity, transparency and finesse. The aromas are clear, bright and precise, with notes of lively blackcurrant wrapped in gentle spice. The acidity is lively, the flavours are bright and vibrant, and the tannins are fine and beautifully integrated into the wine. This is a stunning wine that is effortless, light and flowing across the palate." Decanter

As a result of 50 years of research, 36 biotypes of the Sangiovese grape were planted on a sunny plateau near Castelnuova Berardenga, from which this extremely interesting and unique wine was created a few years ago. The overall impression is very balanced and straightforward with hints of red cherries, spices, dried blueberries and tobacco. It is the warmest and most balanced of the three Gran Selezione wines. Its intensity, richness of colour and precise fruit immediately captivate Sangiovese lovers. SUPERIORE.DE
"Archetypal for a Chianti Classico, marrying fine fruit with depth and robust, earthy-spicy grip and remaining compact and full-bodied until the long finish." Weinwisser
"Dark, bright ruby red colour. Dark berry and spicy on the nose, with rich precious wood, milk chocolate, fine, resinous tones and a hint of smoke and coconut. Juicy on the palate, with compact tannins and a savoury core, the final is grippy and powerful, the wood has integrated well since the last tasting, powerful finish." Falstaff
"The 2020 Chianti Classico Gran Selezione Vicoregio 36 is a soft, fruity wine that can be drunk now or over the next few years. Crushed flowers, sweet red cherry fruit, candy and sweet floral notes permeate this uncomplicated Gran Selezione. The Vicoregio comes from a relatively cool site in Castelnuovo Berardenga and is the only wine in this range to be aged in oak." Vinous
"Very attractive combination of cherries and lightly toasted oak. A hint of cappuccino. Turns into flowers. Full-bodied with creamy tannins and light-coloured fruit. Polished tannins with a hint of vanilla at the end. Needs time to develop. Try it after 2026." James Suckling
"The Mazzei 2020 Chianti Classico Gran Selezione Castello di Fonterutoli Vicoregio 36 is made from the fruit of an experimental vineyard planted with 36 Sangiovese biotypes. It is characterised by a very linear and concentrated style. This site is particularly rocky with clay-limestone Alberese soils. The ripe fruit of the warm vintage and the lush oak spice give the wine a full-bodied finish. Finally, beautiful mineral notes lend vigour and elegance to the bouquet." Wine Advocate
"This racy red wine is characterised by its lively acidity, which highlights the flavours of cherry, raspberry and iron. Hints of wild herbs, oak spice and tobacco add detail as the wine develops into a long, complex finish that has excellent balance and energy." Wine Spectator
"Exquisite aromas of small fruits, dried roses, spices and tobacco; intriguing structure with sufficient density, but also a great deal of finesse, the tightly woven tannins and acidity in harmony, ends with a long finish. Impeccable Gran Selezione from 36 different Sangiovese biotypes." Vinum
"Marasche on the nose, touches of clementine zest and fresh sage, with peony lashes. Mouthfeel with iodized tannins, a comeback of plum." Luca Gardini

“Alberelli di Giodo” Carricante Sicilia DOC 2021
100% Carricante of incredible elegance and purity, its subtle aroma of herbs and citrus fruits is complemented on the palate by a wonderful minerality and salinity. A white wine full of expressiveness and finesse! SUPERIORE.DE
"Carlo Ferrini's white wine interpretation of old bush trees: A mineral start, then plenty of finesse, the acidity invigorating but excellently integrated, the final precise and long. For a balmy summer afternoon." Vinum
"Bright straw yellow colour with subtle silver notes. Opens with notes of fresh, crisp apple, some jasmine blossom and citrus fruit. Salty and clear on the palate, spreads out well, fine citrus notes." Falstaff
"Carricante is the characteristic white grape variety of Etna, and this unripened example - only the second vintage from legendary winemaker Carlo Ferrini and his daughter Bianca - captures the unique character of the place and the grape variety: Bright and salty, it presents aromas and flavours of lemon, lime and apple. It is structured and ripe, but also very fresh, with a stony, salty wave followed by a subtle, creamy lemon confit. The finish is very long, fine and herbaceous. Marvellous." Decanter
"Lots of jasmine and honeysuckle with flavours of sliced pear and apples that develop into a medium body with wonderful depth and intensity. Great length. No wood. Flinty in flavour. Pure." James Suckling
"The Alberelli di Giodo 2021 Sicilia Carricante hits just the right mix of citrus fruit and salty minerals. The wine is balanced and intense and shows more complexity than one might expect. As it matures, it will develop even more complexity and show some of the beautiful Riesling-like petrol flavours over time. Production is limited to around 3,500 bottles." Wine Advocate
"Pure Carricante from an impeccable cru, a jewel produced in a few bottles of great refinement. On the nose, notes of candied lemon, thyme, then chinotto and a hint of jasmine. On the palate, it is taut, flavoursome, with a return of citrus fruits and floral sensations." Luca Gardini

Brunello di Montalcino DOCG 2019
The fruit for this Brunello comes from a 14.4 hectare south-facing vineyard with loamy soils and lots of boulders. Complex, dark and earthy bouquet of ripe black cherries, enriched with notes of dried flowers, spices, crushed stones and a hint of animal musk. The palate reveals silky textures and pure Sangiovese fruit, underpinned by earthy tones supported by a network of minerals and tannins. The mouthfeel is always lean, tangy and soft, although you can feel the wine's full body and great appeal at all times. The final is polished and refined and lasts for several minutes. SUPERIORE.DE
"Elegant, bright ruby red colour. Great complexity on the nose, a potpourri of mint, blood orange, candied cherry and elegant spice. Juicy, polished and present on the palate, with great red berry fruit, expressive and clear, medium-bodied and elegant, drinks very well, repeatedly juicy on the final." Falstaff
"This red wine is characterised by aromas of plums, ripe cherries, wild herbs and iron. On the palate, the purity of the fruit unfolds together with accents of tobacco and bergamot. The wine is solidly built, with dusty tannins that vie for attention with the fruit on the long finish." Wine Spectator
"Cocounut husk, vanilla and clove on the nose. Loads of plum, raspberry, dusty tannins, finish big with sour cherries and aromatic herbs." Decanter
"Deep red berry fruit, sweet spices, cinnamon and cloves introduce the Brunello di Montalcino 2019. The Brunello di Montalcino is silky through and through, with a depth of red fruits and spices accompanied by juicy acidity. Liquorice and cloves combine with tart raspberry, while the 2019 finishes surprisingly fresh and lightly structured." Vinous
"The Mastrojanni 2019 Brunello di Montalcino has a pretty bouquet with dark fruit and something exotic reminiscent of camphor ash, wood fire ash, garrigue and dried herbs. It is rich and evenly concentrated with fine chalk on the tannins and good phenolic ripeness. It is an excellent accompaniment to grilled game or French magret de canard. This pure local bottling does a great job and is ultimately more approachable than many of its competitors." Wine Advocate
"From vineyards between 180 and 400 metres, impeccable processing in the cellar for a wine of great freshness. Notes of wild strawberries on the nose, a hint of rose and star anise, with mentholated hints. On the palate, savoury tannins, mentholated and with a return of small fruits." Luca Gardini

As a result of extensive soil research, Francesco Ricasoli was able to identify three micro-vineyards, which will be vinified separately from the 2015 vintage onwards. The range of Chianti Classico Gran Selezione now includes, in addition to the famous Castello di Brolio, three cru sites (Colledilà, Roncicone and Ceniprimo), all of which are 100% planted with Sangiovese. They differ in structure and taste in close correspondence with their terroir and impressively demonstrate the complexity of the Chanti Classico region.
CeniPrimo is a single-varietal Sangiovese from soils shaped by a former river course. It is a 6.4 hectare site planted in 1998 with southwest exposure. This site is in a valley on the Arbia River, and the soils are very complex at this point with alluvium and clay that is low in organic matter and lower in limestone. From our tasting, it seems to be the most nuanced and diverse of the three single vineyard Gran Selezione.
Intense, fresh and bright bouquet of violets and wild spicy notes. In the drink, an elegant acidity and fine mineral slate traces. Cherry, blackberry, plum, white pepper and a little rosemary lead the perfectly structured drop into a never-ending and multi-layered finish. SUPERIORE.DE
"A complex, concentrated red wine with seductive aromas of cherries, blackcurrants, violets, minerals and spices. Dry and powerful, with a firm, mineral finish. It shows good balance and a long-lasting aftertaste, combining the fruity, mineral and spicy elements." Wine Spectator
"Straightforward fruit and floral aromas, then subtle spice too; the tannins powdery, well underpinned by the acidity, the finish on notes of sun-ripened berries. Pleases with its verve." Vinum
"The CeniPrimo, the lowest of Ricasoli's three crus, comes from a site 300 metres above sea level in the Arbia Valley on river soils. As a result, it is darker and earthier compared to the other two crus, grippier and also with an amazing acidity. There is a hint of creaminess in the background, with notes of earth, pepper and wood. It's very tasty and vertical, with balsamic freshness and beautiful purity, but definitely needs more time to show its best side." Decanter
"The Barone Ricasoli 2020 Chianti Classico Gran Selezione Castello di Brolio CeniPrimo opens with a medium-dark, saturated appearance and a slightly more concentrated feel, with aromas of cherry liqueur, blackberries, spices and sweet earth. Thanks to the lower-lying vineyards and silty riverbed soils, this wine is a little fruitier and richer in texture. However, this wine also offers a touch of lively freshness on the finish, and that makes a big difference in a warm vintage like this. It remains very balanced throughout." Wine Advocate
"Aromas of firm-to-the-bite cherries with citrus peel. Flowers, like red roses, also come through clearly. Medium to full body, with open-grained tannins that cling like cashmere. Powerful, fresh and lively. Give this wine three to five years to develop." James Suckling

“Colledilà" Chianti Classico Gran Selezione DOCG 2020
As a result of extensive soil research, Francesco Ricasoli was able to identify three microlocations, which will be vinified separately from the 2015 vintage onwards.
The grapes of Colledilà come from the soils of Monte Morello. The 7.6 hectare single-vineyard plot was planted in 2002 on very rocky soils rich in calcium, clay and organic matter. These characteristics give this wine its sharpness and concentration, promising long ageing in the cellar.
Ripe, dark cherry fruit and blackberry aromas, followed by tar, liquorice and potting soil. On the palate, a fine earthiness, cherry and plum, plus finely knit and slightly sweet tannins. The dense fruit and pleasant acid wire the Sangiovese provide the necessary freshness. Masterfully composed! SUPERIORE.DE
"Like a laser beam in profile, this red wine evokes aromas and flavours of cherries, currants, minerals, wild herbs and sweet spices. The lingering, incisive finish leaves a hint of fine tannins. Needs time." Wine Spectator
"Juicy, ripe and bright, it shows a delicious freshness of blackcurrant fruit with classic chalky verticality and length, but it needs more time to reveal all its complexity." Decanter
"Of these 2020 releases, I think the Barone Ricasoli 2020 Chianti Classico Gran Selezione Colledilà is the most sensitive to the warm growing season. You sense more fruit ripeness in this wine with savoury spices, leather and roasted espresso beans. There is plenty of plum and purple fruit framed by gravel and campfire ash. Indeed, this 2020 expression offers a nice, balanced freshness in terms of mouthfeel." Wine Advocate
"Intense perfume of stone fruit, dark chocolate and tobacco; tightly woven, the tannins polished and in perfect unison with the well-integrated acidity, the finish on notes of black cherries, clear and spot-on. Also very successful in this vintage." Vinum
"Very perfumed with aromas of hibiscus flowers, citrus and fresh cherries leading to a medium body with layers of fruit and very fine tannins that go on and on. Fully integrated. A joy to taste and drink, but it will develop beautifully in bottle. Pure harmony." James Suckling
"Elegantly bright ruby red with a delicate garnet rim. Expressive nose, of rose hips, blood oranges, fresh cherries, very inviting and fragrant, red peach, with delicate floral components. Very juicy entry on the palate, polished and clear, with great brought out red fruit, plus bright spice, long and very elegant." Falstaff

“Roncicone” Chianti Classico Gran Selezione DOCG 2020
As a result of extensive soil research, Francesco Ricasoli was able to identify three microlocations, which will be vinified separately from the 2015 vintage onwards.
Cru Roncicone comes from soils with maritime deposits. It is a 10.1 hectare plot planted between 1998 and 2000 at a density of 6,000 plants per hectare. The soils are rich in marine fossils with sand at the top and thicker clay under the topsoil. Our impression of this wine is that it is the most immediately and softly structured.
Deep dark, fruity-smoky bouquet. On the palate then dark, violet fruits, paired with notes of forest floor, tobacco and a nice spiciness. The volume is full and deep, the tannins very accessible even at a young age and the finish is flanked by a well-structured acidity framework, which will also ensure a very good ageing potential. SUPERIORE.DE
"The Roncicone, first released in the 2015 vintage, comes from a vineyard with richer soils with marine sediments and large pebbles. It is the most floral and fragrant of Ricasoli's three crus, intense and fleshy, with good spice of black and red cherries, spices and balsamic, finishing with sweet, floral red fruits - a very nice style." Decanter
"The spicy nose is reminiscent of a soothing café, with notes of balsamic vinegar and herbs, and a gentle fruitiness that lingers over the smell of the beans. The velvety texture on the palate is balanced by a sharp acidity and a peppery kick on the finish." Wine Enthusiast
"Offers aromas and flavours of cherry, blackcurrant and plum, underlined by iron and mineral notes. Accents of tobacco and wild herbs emerge on the long, delicious finish. Excellent balance." Wine Spectator
"Ripe and rich Roncicone with plums, currants and jam accompanied by fresh flowers and walnut undertones. Full-bodied, a little chewy and structured, but crisp with fine tannins. Long lasting finish. Needs at least two or three years to develop." James Suckling
"Exquisite bouquet of stone fruit and sandalwood, spiced up by fine spice; harmonious tannin-acid framework, pressure on the finish and yet full of elegance." Vinum
"This is the wine that blew me away last year (when I tasted the excellent 2019 vintage) and convinced me of the innovative work Barone Ricasoli is currently doing. Today, tasting the 2020 Chianti Classico Gran Selezione Castello di Brolio Roncicone, I am reminded of the quality fruit that comes from this particular 10-acre site with marine fossils in the sandy topsoil. Carefully aged in oak, this Sangiovese shows brilliant clarity and focus, with aromas of roses, dried cherries, campfire ash and delicate mineral notes. This wine paints a beautiful portrait of this grape variety." Wine Advocate

Brunello di Montalcino DOCG 2019
Neris Brunello 2019 is a classic wine with pleasant contrasts and a focussed structure. Ripe dark fruit and autumnal spices contrast with savoury herbs and a hint of animal musk. The palate is silky, cool and airy, with a noticeable inner sweetness in the polished cherry and berry flavours, then veers more towards inner earth and minerals, showing beautifully articulated and grippy tannins. Streamlined and compact in the mouth with a lively, racy finish and great potential. SUPERIORE.DE
"Dense, delicately reductive bouquet that beguiles with plenty of typical cherry and pomegranate fruit as well as blue fruits such as plums, followed by tobacco and dark gianduja chocolate as well as balsamic nuances. Elegant, incredibly full-bodied palate with juicy contours and grippy, yet sweet tannins. A grippy, animating, long final with cranberry juice, orange peel and delicately reductive, savoury notes. Good potential." Weinwisser
"Powerful ruby colour with a light garnet rim. Very appealing, open nose, with notes of wild raspberry and blackberry, plus fresh tobacco and a fine spicy note. Polished and fine on the attack and on the palate, showing lots of juicy, dark fruit paired with dense tannins, spans a wide arc, very good drinking flow." Falstaff
"Redcurrants and lavender, followed by layers of dried herbs and spices. Full-bodied and lush on the palate with chewy tannins. Persistent long finish with citrus flavours. Still young, healthy and concentrated. Very attractive now and in the future." James Suckling
"The core of ripe cherry fruit is complemented by woody, mushroomy, ferrous, spicy and savoury flavours in this intense red, with a long, resonant aftertaste. Although balanced, it could use a few more years to reach its sweet spot." Wine Spectator
"The Casanova di Neri 2019 Brunello di Montalcino shows dense fruit tissue with hints of undergrowth, pressed rose, light cherry, tobacco and balanced oak spice. This wine definitely has a special furrow. It offers a ripe, round texture with good acidity, followed by fine, chalky tannins. This is an impressive quality. In fact, this is one of the best village Brunellos that Giacomo Neri and his family have produced to date." Wine Advocate
"A great classic of the house, a work of impeccable finesse between land and cellar for an emblematic product. On the nose, raspberry, a hint of white pepper, a touch of laurel and peony, then nuances of sweet liquorice. Salty and juicy in the mouth, with raspberry and floral notes." Luca Gardini

“Montevetrano” Rosso Colli di Salerno IGT 2019
Silvia Imparato's noble Montevetrano is one of Riccardo Cotarella's first creations and certainly one of his most important to this day. Deep ruby red with violet reflections. Rich aromas of dark plums, blackcurrants, cedar, graphite and minerals on the captivating nose. Clean, fresh, juicy on the palate with an engaging, refined texture. There are liquorice and violet aromas on the long, graceful and layered finish. A very promising, still young Montevetrano with a great future! SUPERIORE.DE
"The Montevetrano 2019 captivates with a rich blend of brown spices, tobacco, cherries soaked in rum, menthol and mint. It is classy and polished, with textures of pure silk and a massive core of dark red and black fruits that slowly saturate the palate. The 2019 finishes classically dry and incredibly long, with fine-grained tannins framing nuances of wild blueberries and sage. What a beauty. The 2019 Montevetrano is a beautifully composed blend of 50% Cabernet Sauvignon, 30% Aglianico and 20% Merlot." Vinous
"This wine is one of the icons of southern Italy. It maintains its timeless character over the years, in good vintages as well as bad. The 2019 Montevetrano embodies the charisma and elegance of the very good vintage recorded in Campania with cool nights, good humidity and average summer temperatures. The blend is 50% Cabernet Sauvignon, 30% Aglianico and 20% Merlot from a five hectare site with clay soils. The bouquet reveals dark cherries and black plums with baker's chocolate and exotic spices. The Aglianico gives the wine a particular black fruit quality that is almost tarry, and this grape comes through particularly well in the blend, as it should, being one of the original "Super Campania" wines." “Colledilà" Chianti Classico Gran Selezione Gaiole DOCG 2021
Since summer 2023, Chianti Classico producers have been allowed to include the eleven additional geographical indications (UGA = unità geografiche aggiuntive) introduced in 2021 on the labels of the top Gran Selezione category. For Chianti Classico winegrowers, it is a logical step to produce wines that reflect the area in which they were produced as authentically as possible. And customers can thus deepen their knowledge of the relationship between the wines and their region of origin - a real added value.
As a result of extensive soil analyses, Francesco Ricasoli was able to identify three micro-vineyards, which will be vinified separately from the 2015 vintage onwards. The Chianti Classico Gran Selezione range now includes three cru sites (Colledilà, Roncicone and Ceniprimo) in addition to the famous Castello di Brolio, all of which are 100% Sangiovese. Ripe, dark cherry fruit and blackberry flavours, followed by tar, liquorice and potting soil. A fine earthiness, cherry and plum flavours on the palate, with finely knitted and slightly sweet tannins. The dense fruit and pleasant acid wire of the Sangiovese provide the necessary freshness. Masterfully composed! SUPERIORE.DE
"Mineral with smoky cherry fruit; super juicy style with fine red fruit fullness, vertical with elegant texture, polished tannins, juicy final." Weinwisser
"Noble, shiny ruby red colour. Dark and beguiling on the nose, notes of cold smoke, rosehip, cordial cherry and marzipan, comes in many layers. Ripe, juicy fruit on the palate on a finely woven tannin structure and animating acidity, great finesse and harmony through to the very persistent finish." Falstaff
"The Chianti Classico Gran Selezione Colledilà 2021 is bright, focussed and very expressive. Reddish fruit, blood orange, mint, spices and rose petals race across the palate. This lively, nuanced Gaiole Gran Selezione has so much to offer. Once again, the Colledilà is the most charming of the Gran Seleziones in this range." Vinous
"Evocative scents of jasmine, fennel and thyme flowers unfold against a dusty, stony background. The palate is concentrated, with dark cherries and blackberries surrounded by muscular tannins with a very chalky texture. A powerful acidity unfolds on the finish. Still dense, with some wood notes to digest." Decanter
"Fresh and crisp with orange peel, cherries, raspberries and a hint of raw meat. It is medium-bodied with medium-round tannins and a juicy finish. Polished and creamy. Slightly chewy and crisp on the finish." James Suckling
"The Barone Ricasoli 2021 Chianti Classico Gran Selezione Gaiole Colledilà opens with dark fruit but, perhaps more importantly, with a slate-like mineral note that adds focus. This mineral note appears in all of these beautiful Gran Selezione wines from winemaker Francesco Ricasoli, but in the case of this bottle it lends a dark or slightly brooding personality. The finish is absolutely savoury and salty." Wine Advocate
"Packed with cherry, raspberry and pomegranate flavours, this red is also juicy and almost racy in profile, with a deep vein of mineral and peppery spice notes that intensify on the long finish. It shows excellent balance and grace, and the best is yet to come." Wine Spectator
"A monumental "Grosse Auslese", from pure Sangiovese, from chalky-marly soils, with a strong presence of Alberese. The aroma is very rich, with notes of wild plums and eucalyptus, barley candy and laurel flavours. Spicy on the palate, with fruity notes and balsamic hints." Luca Gardini

Laura Brunelli's Brunello is an outstanding reflection of the appellation every year. A floral bouquet, the purest expression of cherry and strawberry imaginable, hints of mint, sage and cedar dust - all are found in its stunning bouquet. The youthful density of the ripe primary fruit contrasts with salty minerality and lively acidity, leaving a cascading and crisp impression on the palate. SUPERIORE.DE
"Scents of wild strawberries and violets; well balanced texture, the tannins tight, elegant course, pithy fresh finish." Vinum
"Shiny medium ruby red. Spicy, mineral nose with fragrant fruit but not really opening up yet. Elegant, long flavours of raspberry and fruit with plenty of fresh acidity and grippy, gravelly tannins. Still youthful and will take some time to come together." Jancis Robinson
"Enticing nose of rosemary, wild cherries, lemon peel, chocolate strawberries and pralines. It is medium-bodied with a bright, fruit-driven palate framed by fine-grained tannins. All in balance. Drinkable from 2023." James Suckling
"The dark, seductive Brunello di Montalcino 2018 rumbles from the glass with a blend of crushed plums and black cherries, complemented by nuances of grated sage. It is soft and deep, engulfing the palate with ripe wild berries and spices, underlined by a spicy herbaceous steak. A web of fine tannins creates a truly classic impression, while mentholated herbs and hints of wild strawberries keep popping up. This youthfully masked beauty will need minimal ageing to be at its best." Vinous
"As with the 2017 vintage, Laura Brunelli will not be releasing a Riserva. Instead, the Olmo vineyard, which typically forms the backbone of the Riserva, is an important component in this Annata Brunello, making a beautiful and complete wine. Mint, lavender and fennel lead on the nose, while sweet, juicy persimmon and crisp pomegranate provide the backdrop on the palate, and the chalky tannins are quite insidious in their grip. On the surface it's approachable, but its substance, intrigue and backbone suggest more to come." Decanter
"This red wine with its cherry and raspberry aromas also offers flavours of eucalyptus, minerals, earth and almonds. Lively and balanced, with an intense, delicious finish." Wine Spectator
"The 2018 Brunello di Montalcino captures the essence and spirit of the Sangiovese grape very well, a grape that in the right hands delivers endlessly nuanced and complex results. This wine reveals wild cherry, blue violet, blood orange, rusty nail and sweet earth. Hints of scorched earth or baked clay highlight the warmest months in this growing cycle. The result is balanced and fresh. I have mentioned alcohol levels throughout this review, and although the 14% registered here is still quite high, it is below the average of its peers. This is a very well done job." Wine Advocate

"At first a little unapproachable, then clear Sangiovese fruit with crisp cherries, sour cherries and earthy-tobacco nuances. Taut and vertically orientated, energetic, tightly woven, powerful style." Weinwisser
"Brilliant, rich ruby colour with a fine garnet rim. Finely characterised nose with notes of fresh dark cherries, some raspberry and blood orange, plus rich spicy components. Good tension on the palate, shows lots of juicy fruit, opens up with fine tannins, balanced and with a long finish." Falstaff
"The Chianti Classico Gran Selezione Roncicone 2021 is a powerful, intensely mineralised wine. In this tasting, the Roncicone is not particularly open-minded, but one of the most restrained wines in the range. The harvestwill find a Gran Selezione with a lot of minerality but little energy." Vinous
"Gentle and pretty in its aromas, it is decidedly red-fruited. It offers redcurrants and raspberries with a hint of porcini mushrooms and espresso. It feels medium-bodied but fills the mouth, its long, fine, sandy tannins providing an elegant flow. Mineral with tangy acidity, it shows the juicy character of Sangiovese." Decanter
"This Chianti Classico has a fresh and tangy character with notes of oranges, cherries and sandalwood. Medium-bodied with fine tannins and a creamy finish. The tannins are very light. It is drinkable now, but it will be even better in a year or two." James Suckling
"This red wine is a little shy today, revealing a core of ripe cherry, strawberry, rose and iron flavours supported by a lively acidity. Its tannins are refined and well integrated, while the finish is very long, savoury and intense." Wine Spectator
"The Chianti Classico Gran Selezione Gaiole Roncicone 2021 offers energy and a great sense of concentration thanks to the elegant mineral tones of crushed shells and chalk that frame a core of elegant berry fruit. In fact, marine fossils are often discovered in this 10-hectare vineyard. I love the precision and straightforwardness of the silky and lingering finish. The personality is refined and subtle." Every year, the San Lorenzo is the result of the best grapes from the four classic Ama vineyards and only a few thousand bottles are sold in specialised shops and upmarket restaurants. "Bright, medium ruby red colour with a brightening rim. Very elegant and delicate nose of cherries, cranberries and some cedar wood, very slightly smoky. Very precise on the palate, pleasantly juicy with fine-grained tannins and great length." Falstaff
"The 2021 Chianti Classico Gran Selezione Castello di Ama San Lorenzo is packed with dark red fruit, liquorice, spice, leather and graphite. This is a decidedly potent Gran Selezione. Clean mineral notes prolong the finish and hint at a brilliant future. The sculptural style is very appealing. Again, you will need to be patient, as the 2021 is still very young." Vinous
"The 2021 Chianti Classico Gran Selezione San Lorenzo takes a few moments longer to open up in the glass, but unlike the La Casuccia, which holds back, this wine comes into its own quickly enough. The flavour profile of the wine is a little fleshier and fuller, which could be related to the warm conditions of the vintage. The San Lorenzo is a generous wine and a bottle to enjoy in the medium or long term." Wine Advocate
"This wine is really perfumed and beautiful, with black cherry, blackcurrant and violets. Full-bodied, with fully integrated tannins and a palate presence that is quite spectacular. Wonderful finish. Try after 2027." James Suckling

Brunello di Montalcino “La Casa” DOCG 2019
Caparzo's La Casa vineyard, located in an enviable position on the hill of Montosoli, has been vinified separately since 1977 and is one of the first single-vineyard bottlings in Montalcino. Like regular Brunello, La Casa has a surprising underlying acidity that gives the wine brightness and focus, the northern exposure of the parcel certainly playing a role. Fresh herbs and pomegranate contrast with nuances of sun-baked earth and incense. On the palate, the wine is very full-bodied and concentrated, with tactile tannins, yet remains fresh and flowing at all times. SUPERIORE.DE
"Even on the nose, it is much more complex and interesting than the "normal" Brunello, with ripe candied cherries, fine floral notes, violets, lavender, but also mineral and earthy notes such as iron. Very elegant and quite precise on the palate, intense and present, with wonderfully ripe tannins and sweet berries, showing origin and character with a multi-layered final and powerful Sangiovese spice." Weinwisser
"Intense, finely spiced bouquet with fresh berry flavours, also a floral component; solid texture, the tannin-acid structure in balance, polished finish on notes of stone fruit, tobacco and eucalyptus." Vinum
"Dark, bright ruby red colour. Filigree and multi-layered expression on the nose, reminiscent of raspberries and blackberries, dried tomatoes and balsamic tones. Opens up smoothly on the palate, fine-meshed, grippy tannins at the core, dark fruit, fine balsamic notes, long finish." Falstaff
"Subtle power and plenty of cherry, plum and mineral flavours in this soft red wine, plus a hint of wild herbs. It's quite fluid and open, with a slight tannic abrasion on the lingering finish." Wine Spectator
"Subtle mocha and crushed allspice emerge, then finally wild, red forest berries. The palate is more exuberant, revealing a generous core of pure, delicious raspberries infused with vanilla and liquorice. The gravelly tannins remain firmly anchored and need time to resolve. An appetising, stony finish." Decanter
"The Brunello di Montalcino Vigna La Casa 2019 comes from the hills of Montosoli, opposite the town of Montalcino. It is youthfully moody and dark in the glass, slowly evolving with violet flowers, crushed wild berries and sweet spices. Silky and supple, it swings across the palate with a juicy texture of mineral red fruits, while floral notes resonate on the inside and grippy tannins come in towards the end. The Vigna La Casa finishes long, structured and classically dry, leaving a hint of liquorice and a touch of tart orange lingering on the tongue. The future is very promising, but the 2019 will require a lot of patience." Vinous
"The Caparzo 2019 Brunello di Montalcino Vigna La Casa offers a balanced presentation of candied cherries, dried fruit and toasted spices. This is a beautiful and joyful wine with velvety soft tannins and good internal energy that adds dimension and depth to the mouthfeel. Vigna La Casa is a contemporary expression of Montalcino with added fruit concentration and structure, and the results are carefully balanced throughout." Wine Advocate
"Flavours of blueberries, blackberries and chocolate, yet subtle and perfumed. Full-bodied with chewy tannins and plenty of structure. Shows depth and has a purpose. Needs time to develop soon. Try it after 2027." James Suckling

Brunello di Montalcino DOCG 2016
Fine, silky tannins frame a core of crushed berries, flowers, liquorice and new leather. The wine's inner extract sweetness reveals itself only with time of aeration, adding harmony and class. Already today, a super-elegant and at the same time refined and open Brunello presents itself, which always remains graceful and fresh at the same time, despite all its fruit fullness. Our perspective: With increasing bottle maturity, the drinking pleasure of this first-class Sangiovese increases even more! SUPERIORE.DE
"Mid ruby. Deep savoury cherry nose with hints of pine. Racy cherry fruit on the palate with fine coating tannins. Long, vibrant and concentrated. Gorgeous length and freshness." Jancis Robinson
"Ripe, sweet plum, cherry and blackberry flavors are complemented by iron and tobacco accents in this suave red. Shows fine balance and texture, with well-integrated tannins and acidity and a long, mouthwatering finish." Wine Spectator
"A debut on the Place this year from a vintage hailed as one of the best in the last decade. Grapes come from a 30-hectare vineyard bought in 2017 by Belgian businessman Marcel van Poecke who has invested heavily in replantings and new cellar facilities. The texture and overall feel here are lovely - powerful and succulent bramble fruits fill the palate, gliding across the tongue while coffee grounds and dried herbs settle in the background giving structure and definition. This has an aerial quality with real finesse." Decanter
"This is so aromatic and floral with cedar, dried roses, and black cherries. It’s full-bodied, yet so refined and tight with silky tannins and a flavorful finish. Tight and focused. Needs time to open, but shows beautiful finesse and focus." James Suckling
"The 2016 Brunello di Montalcino offers a pure and classic expression of the vintage with bright fruit tones, wild cherry, toasted nut, blue flower and forest floor. Whereas the other wines in the Poggio Antico portfolio undergo aging in smaller tonneaux, this wine is aged in large Slavonian casks instead. You taste the lift and brightness of the fruit, and it's all quite lovely. Grapes are sourced across a 13-hectare site at a very high 500 meters in elevation. The name of this area is I Poggi, and the soils here are a bit lighter and rockier with both schistous galestro and limestone alberese. I love the delicate approach here, the intensity of those floral aromas, and the silky nature of the mouthfeel. This classic Brunello really stands out." Wine Advocate
"Classic Sangiovese aromas of underbrush, wild berry and new leather mingle with whiffs of camphor. Supremely elegant, the focused palate shows precision and great energy, featuring juicy red cherry, pomegranate, white pepper and black tea set against chiseled, refined tannins. Vibrant acidity keeps it balanced while a salty mineral note lingers on the close. Fantastic showing." Wine Enthusiast

Brunello di Montalcino DOCG 2018
The already very well-balanced and classic 2018 vintage can gain again with Fuligni, because no Riserva was produced. Ruby red with orange reflections. On the nose, after some aeration, ripe morello cherries, violets, roses and lots of Mediterranean scrub. Powerful on the palate, the silky tannins give it elegance and the necessary balance, its complexity comes to the fore with every sip. This very authentic and strongly focused Brunello can be counted among the best of the vintage, its wonderfully balanced proportions and its juiciness will give it further impetus in the coming years. SUPERIORE.DE
"Clear, quite firm, a touch floral aroma of ripe red and also black berries with nutty aromas, a little tobacco, cigar ash, dried herbs and dried meat. Firmly woven, tart and juicy, quite noble fruit, present, fine, youthful tannin, some acid bite, peppery and ethereal herbal nuances on the palate, persistent, good depth, salt in the background, a little cocoa and coffee, complex, still undeveloped but already impressive, has tension and finesse, very good, tight finish with coffee notes and ethereal, also slightly resinous spice." Wein-Plus
"Sparkling, medium dense ruby with a broad garnet rim. Very fragrant and inviting nose, shows lots of fresh fruit, of fresh plum and cherry, fine herbal spice in the background. Compact and present in attack and course, shows itself very balanced and clear, very well integrated tannin, spreads out in long waves, nice juiciness in the drink." Falstaff
"Medium to deep ruby red with orange reflections. There is a kinship with the Rosso 2020 in the oak notes, but here it is a bit more complex and less exotic. Iron, cherry, raspberry with complex oak notes in the background. Cardamom and cumin. A good mouthful of juicy red fruits with fine but persistent tannins. Refreshing, transparent and elegant. Quite amazing balance and lovely bite." Jancis Robinson
"It takes quite a while for the 2018 Brunello di Montalcino to open in the glass. A cloud of white smoke gives way to a sweet-smelling blend of dried roses, sugared cherries and a hint of exotic spices. This is a round and supple 2018 that conveys elegance through its velvety texture, polished ripe red fruits and cascading florals of violets. The 2018 is opulent but also has the acidity to keep it balanced, as it finishes long with classically refined tannins but leaves the palate perfectly poised for another sip. Honestly, it's hard to put this glass down. No Riserva will be produced in 2018, so all the juice has been used to support this open and seductive Brunello." Vinous
"A fine Brunello with aromas and flavours of black cherries, hazelnuts and chocolate. Very perfumed. Medium body with a nice texture and delicious finish. Nice, fine tannins. Not the best structured red wine, but it will improve with age and is a wonderful treat right now." James Suckling
"The Fuligni 2018 Brunello di Montalcino stands out for its supple integration of aromas and the carefully balanced intensity achieved here, which shows verve but also remains very fine and nuanced. The bouquet is multi-layered and reminiscent of wild fruits, cassis, rock gravel, candied oranges and fresh herbs or rosemary. A floral note also emerges, reminiscent of rose or orris root. The tannins are very well integrated and silky. You hardly feel them, and yet the wine has a firm structure throughout." Wine Advocate
"An elegant, juicy red wine with pure cherry and rosehip flavours. Nice balance of fruit, acidity, tannins and texture, with accents of earth, tobacco and wild herbs adding detail. The long finish suggests great potential." Wine Spectator
"Under the direction of Maria Flora Fuligni since 1971, along with her long-time right-hand woman Dr Daniela Perino - now CEO of the winery - Fuligni is one of the denomination's most consistent performers. The 2018 does not disappoint: it embodies the elegance of the vintage. The nose is a captivating synthesis of flowers and earth, exuding pressed violets, lavender and roses with accents of truffle and tobacco. In the mouth, it unfolds with flavour rather than weight or power. Redcurrants and oranges are enhanced by piercing acidity, and the shapely, gorgeously textured tannins are chalky and appropriately cushioned, adding layers and depth. This wine, which is not beyond its capacity, will drink beautifully over the next decade." Decanter
The Fuligni winery offers an "evergreen" at its best with this version of the traditional-style Brunello. Blackcurrant and juniper on the nose, with a hint of pepper leaf on the finish. Salty and taut tannins on the palate, fruity-balsamic return on the finish." Luca Gardini

Brunello di Montalcino “Altero” DOCG 2012
A radiant bouquet of blackberries with a hint of leather in the background. Although it has a modern design, this wine from Montalcino is strongly attached to its homeland and gives the acidity typical of Montalcino's high altitudes the main role in its beguilingly generous taste. Attractive, smooth and wonderfully long-lasting! SUPERIORE.DE
"Nuances of red berries, violets and tobacco; compact structure with well integrated tannins, juice and perfectly integrated acidity, rich in finesse and with storage potential. It goes very well with game dishes." Vinum
"A pretty and ripe Brunello with lots of plum and cherry aromas. Full body, soft and chewy tannins and a flavorful finish. Some dustiness within the texture. Dense and enticing." James Suckling
"Youthful ruby. Deep nose of fruit with hints of oak. Ripe, rich cherry fruit with a zesty, tangy core. Real interest and great tactile finish. Still firmly tannic for the moment." Jancis Robinson
"Here's a richly concentrated expression from one of the highest sites in Montalcino. The wine shows excellent balance and suppleness. The 2012 Brunello di Montalcino Altero flaunts the best characteristics of the hot vintage including beautifully saturated color intensity, seamless aromas and good texture richness. On that last point, I feel that the mouthfeel has been positively impacted by oak tannins. Dark cherry and dried blackberry are followed by spice, tar, licorice and grilled rosemary or Mediterranean herb. The wine is youthful and tight but should obtain a more polished approach with a few more years of bottle aging." Wine Advocate

Chianti Classico Terrazze di San Leolino Gran Selezione DOCG 2019 (BIO)
The years of the COVID-19 pandemic were particularly fruitful for Giovanni Manetti, you could call them an epiphany. He had time to reflect and walked through his vineyards in the Conca d'Oro in Panzano in Chianti, an amphitheatre of postcard-perfect vines, and decided it was time to expand his portfolio. In particular, he was looking for a way to better articulate the concept of Chianti Classico Gran Selezione, which is essentially a perfect vehicle for a grand cru winemaking philosophy. His existing Chianti Classico Gran Selezione Vigna del Sorbo is a flagship for this highest category of appellation, but unfortunately it only represents a single vineyard site. The fruit comes from an area with a higher proportion of schistose galestro for dark fruit, etched mineral notes and pencil shavings. Now this wine can be seen in context.
This is how the Chianti Classico Gran Selezione Terrazze San Leolino was created. It comes from a vineyard in Panzano, not too far from Vigna del Sorbo. However, this small parcel near the San Leolino chapel is characterised by calcareous Alberese, which produces fresh wines with a less dark character. SUPERIORE.DE
"Bright, radiant ruby red colour. Very spicy on the nose, with hints of leather and pepper, also reminiscent of wet stone, opens up on ripe dark berries at the back, with a blood-like finish. Spreads out with great freshness and compact tannins, immediately present, balanced and with class, pithy and with firm pressure on the finish." Falstaff
"A pretty red that evokes aromas and flavours of cherries, blackberries, blackcurrants, violets and iron, supported by lively tannins and vibrant acidity that make the wine concentrated and long-lasting." Wine Spectator
"The best fruit from 15-year-old vines was set aside to make this 5,000-bottle first release. The famous Vigna del Sorbo is not far away, but compared to the wine from that site, the Terrazze San Leonlino is sharper, more concentrated and offers a leaner fruit weight. The bouquet tends towards wild roses and Mediterranean herbs, which gives the flavours more vertical pressure. The tannins are silky and polished." Wine Advocate
"Impressive flavours of blackberries and peppers with a hint of toffee. Full-bodied, round, soft and juicy." James Suckling
"The brand new Terrazze San Leolino Gran Selezione from Fontodi is a real eye-catcher. San Leolino was recognised as a cru site 200 years ago. The recently renovated terraces are located at an altitude of 450 metres in Panzano, but unlike Fontodi's Vigna del Sorbo, which is characterised by Galestro, the soil here consists of calcareous Alberese. Although it has only recently been bottled, it already shows its earthy, stony and mineral flavours. On the palate, it is elegant and profound, with decisive flavours of roses, red cherries and long, enveloping tannins that end with a tangy salinity. It is still very closed, but promising." Decanter
"From a beautiful project in biological management near the Conca d’oro of Panzano, soil characterized by the presence of trees. Notes of pomegranate on the nose, rosehip and wild sage. The palate is taut-sapid, with fruity-floral return and intense drinkability." Luca Gardini

“Sammarco” Rosso Toscana IGT 2019
Sammarco, made predominantly from Cabernet Sauvignon with unmistakable Tuscan roots, shines with a ripe fruit bouquet and aromas of green pepper, leather and a hint of herbal spice. The flavour is solid and the crisp tannins are perfectly integrated into the powerful structure. A grandiose pleasure that expands and intensifies into the long final. SUPERIORE.DE
"Sparkling ruby colour with violet shimmer, delicate lightening rim. Initially somewhat cloudy on the nose, clarifies with aeration, then develops fine notes of raspberry, dark currant, some cedar wood. Pithy, gripping tannins characterise the wine on the palate, still very young, but has a lot of potential, put it away for a few years!" Falstaff
"The 2019 Sammarco is a very pretty, elegant wine with gorgeous aromatic intensity from Cabernet Sauvignon, which makes up the majority of the blend this year. Sweet pipe tobacco, cedar, mint, dried cherry, incense and crushed leaves give this young, nascent Sammarco a remarkable aromatic presence. With time in the glass, the striking inner flavour and sweetness come to the fore. In 2019, Sammarco is more finesse than power." Vinous
"Lush and fluid, this intense red offers black currant, blackberry, wild herb, graphite, loam and tobacco flavors. Fresh, balanced and long, with lively acidity, pointed tannins and a long finish of dark fruit." Wine Spectator
"Currants and black berries with citrus undertones and flowers. Medium body with velvety tannins and a freshness and brightness. Lots of energy." James Suckling
"The 2019 Sammarco is a blend of Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot and Sangiovese. It is more austere and even robust compared to the more powerful style that is appreciated in this portfolio. It is an earthy wine with a broader base of flavours ranging from black fruits, baked plums, spices, tobacco and crushed limestone. In this wine you can feel the natural concentration of the 2019 vintage and the wonderfully controlled tannins." Wine Advocate
