Barolo “Le Coste di Monforte” DOCG 2018
Of the three Baroli from Pecchenino, Le Coste di Monforte shows the most focus and sharpness. The other two wines are much softer in their aromatic focus compared to this wine. Le Coste di Monforte offers dark fruits, balsamic herbs, spices, campfire ash and ferruginous earth in beautifully balanced proportions. This wine has a long maceration period of 60 days (at 28 degrees Celsius), which is followed by 36 months of ageing in oak barrels. This gives the wine its rich flavour profile. The fruit comes from a site of just under one hectare at an altitude of 450 metres. SUPERIORE.DE
"The 2018 Barolo Le Coste di Monforte shows some sweet oak and baking spices on the first nose. Given more time in the glass, the wine reveals dark fruits, plum, autumn leaves and forest floor. The oak tones are strong in this medium-bodied Nebbiolo and need more time to settle into the wine's lean texture, if they ever fully emerge at all." Wine Advocate
"The 2018 Barolo Le Coste di Monforte is an exotic, beguiling wine. Melted road tar, incense, scorched earth, game, tobacco and cured meat contribute to an impression of brooding gravitas. But here, too, the flavours are advanced. Powerful Monforte tannins frame the imposing finish. Still, I wouldn't push my luck with ageing." Vinous
"Expressive, featuring rose, cherry, strawberry and sun-kissed hay aromas and flavors matched to an elegant frame. Light-bodied yet charming, harmonious and persistent on the chalky finish." Wine Spectator
"The nose reveals a wild, fruity character with a sharp, truffle and earthy note. With air, a hint of chocolate emerges. Medium to full body with dense flavours of ripe berries and medium-grained tannins covered in fruit and minerals. It all seems a bit raw at the moment, but it has plenty of character and length. It's fun to try, but give it a few years to develop." James Suckling

“Morei Cilindrica” Teroldego Vigneti delle Dolomiti (Riserva) IGT 2018 (BIO)
Morei (dark in Trentino dialect) is an original red wine that is true to its terroir and yet irresistibly elegant and refined. Warm, dense and mineral like the soil on which it grows. Morei is protected from cold northerly winds by the nearby, abruptly rising rock faces.
Morei Cilindrica is the Demeter-certified Teroldego cru in Riserva quality and a racy wine with intense and mineral-driven flavours. The vineyard is planted in an old river bed lying in rocks and sand. This and the 12 months of ageing in cylindrical amphorae give the site wine its terroir-typical, clear profile. SUPERIORE.DE
"Vibrant, wild, dark-red fruit, a little peppery. The tannins are extremely fine, especially for Teroldego, and increase the freshness of the fruit. pep, tender texture. Delicate and long." Jancis Robinson
"The 2018 Teroldego Morei Cilindrica smells of wild berries, melon and gravel. It is soft with a deep minerality, but also with juicy acids that create a lively and joyful feel, even as the tart wild berries saturate. It leaves a subtle layer of tannin and a hint of spice as it finishes dry and fresh. This limited edition version of Morei has spent an extra year on a Cilindrica Amphora, which essentially means two years of refinement." Vinous

Brunello di Montalcino DOCG 2017
Laura Brunelli's Brunello is an outstanding reflection of the appellation every year. A floral bouquet, the purest expression of cherry and strawberry imaginable, hints of mint, sage and cedar dust - all are found in its stunning bouquet. The youthful density of the ripe primary fruit contrasts with salty minerality and lively acidity, leaving a cascading and crisp impression on the palate. The 2017 is not yet ready to show all its treasures, instead it impresses with its sheer potential, rejuvenating with fine tannins, hints of liquorice and gorgeous inner flowers. SUPERIORE.DE
"Medium warm red; depth of fruit, spicy, very inviting; sweetness, round, fine, juicy, round tannin, elegant brunello, fruit length, long, pleases very much." (JLF) Merum
"Sweet cherries and berries with some smoke and ash undertones. Medium body with firm, silky tannins that are slightly chewy, but polished and very pleasant for the vintage." James Suckling
"The 2017 Brunello di Montalcino is deeply expressive, showing peppery red berries and pomegranate plus hints of tomato leaf and sage, reminding me of that moment you add fresh herbs to a just-finished ragù. This is pure silk on the palate, rich and pliant, as it slowly saturates the senses with mineral-laced red and hints of blue fruit. Intensely primary and licorice-tinged, it tapers off grippy and classically dry to lasting rosy florals. The 2017 is a bit like a tamed beast of a Brunello." Vinous
"The 2017 Brunello di Montalcino is beautifully bright and stitched up with extreme focus and sharpness. Sangiovese has this gorgeous ability to show linearity and lift, but it remains elegant and tight at the same time. This wine accomplishes all of this, and that's saying a lot given the heat and drought of this vintage. The acidity is bright and the finish is long and smooth with citrusy end notes of blood orange followed by wild rose and lilac. Fruit comes from a 4.5-hectare site with sand and galestro soils." Brunello di Montalcino “La Pieve” DOCG 2018
Clear, relatively cool, polished and deep nose with fine berry tones, a little dry herbs, pepper, hints of tobacco, ash and floral nuances. Taut, tart, fresh and precise fruit with noticeable acidity and present, fine tannins. Dense and persistent on the palate, smoky traces, some dry herbs, salt in the background, very good depth. For all its power, elegant style with a hint of bitter chocolate, very good, taut, tangy finish. SUPERIORE.DE
"This wine has aromas of cherry pits, plums, nutmeg, cedar and some balsamic. It is full-bodied with tangy acidity and spicy, fleshy layers of fruit accompanied by sinewy tannins. A little linear. Powerful finish." James Suckling
"The La Gerla 2018 Brunello di Montalcino La Pieve also shows a thicker and more concentrated side, similar to the Brunello annata. I would argue that this density even goes a step further, with more texture and weight perceived on the palate. This powerful, full-bodied approach is accompanied by ripe cherries, blackberries, smoked spices and leather. There is a hint of sour fruit on the finish." Wine Advocate
"Deep and savoury, this red shows aromas of black cherry, blackberry, eucalyptus, rosemary, iron and earth. With assertive tannins, this finishes with a chewy, compact feel." Wine Spectator
"The 2018 Brunello di Montalcino La Pieve exudes ripe strawberry and blueberry fruit in the glass, accompanied by crushed stone and violet pastilles. It is silky-soft and supple, with a depth of ripe red and black berries supported by a core of vibrant acidity. The final is of great depth and length, along with classic tannins that slowly fade lavender-scented plums and a hint of cocoa. The 2018 La Pieve is a real charmer." Vinous
"Raw material of great crispness for this new jewel, result of Sergio Rossi's vision. Notes of red plums on the nose, hints of undergrowth and wild mint, rhubarb on the finish. The mouthfeel is juicy and taut, with succulent tannins, mentholated notes return on the finish." Luca Gardini
"The sanguine, umami nose is a well-laid charcuterie board of carpaccio, Parmesan, dried tomatoes, olives and a cup of pomegranate seeds, with a dusting of oregano and a drizzle of balsamic vinegar. The palate turns sweeter and juicier with dried fruit, but the tomatoes and herbs linger through a sophisticated, bitter finish." Wine Enthusiast

Brunello di Montalcino “Pertimali” DOCG 2017
The even stricter selection of the grapes in 2017 led to a total of half the number of bottles compared to previous vintages. The result, however, is impressive: An extremely attractive bouquet with earthy notes, only gradually revealing ripe strawberries, spicy herbs, leather and a little coffee. As it progresses, spicy orange peel, sour cherry and mint, followed by salty minerals. The lively acidity ensures that the wine remains fresh and supple despite its compact structure. The initially firm tannins gracefully envelop the pretty fruit core with further aeration, and in the long final we then discover sweet spices and traces of white pepper. SUPERIORE.DE
"The Sassetti Livio Pertimali 2017 Brunello di Montalcino is quite bright and lifted with cherries and fresh fruits that pop from the glass. The primary intensity is radiant in this wine, setting it apart from many of its peers. It covers the palate with mid-weight intensity, nice acidity and silky tannins. The brightness you get here is so attractive now, so I see little reason to wait much longer before pulling this cork." Wine Advocate
"The 2017 Brunello di Montalcino makes itself known with a burst of dusty black raspberries, mentholated herbs, crushed ashen stone and dark flowery undergrowth. Silky-smooth and round in feel, it impresses with a cooling wave of mint-infused wild berry fruits mixed with balsamic spices and wood-smoked salts. While the 2017 doesn’t have the weight and density you’d expect from such a young Pertimali, yet it makes up for it with grace and purity, leaving a light coating of tannins and minerals to mingle throughout the finale." Vinous
"Black cherry and mushroom with some dried flower undertones. Full-bodied with fine velvety tannins and a juicy and succulent finish. The tannins are very polished for a 2017. Try from 2023 onwards." James Suckling
"One of the founding wineries of the Brunello Consortium, an ancient wisdom that proceeds in the line of tradition to realize wines of excellence. The nose is neat and intriguing, with small red fruits, touches of red currant, star anise and undergrowth, with a finish of freshness, on the notes of wild mint. The mouthfeel is juicy and dense, closing with officinal return." Luca Gardini

Barolo Bussia DOCG 2016
Full bouquet of dark fruits, spices, tar, smoke and wild mushrooms. Powerful on the palate with lots of berry fruit, nice inner sweetness and considerable acid wire, classic grippy tannins and a rich, long finish. SUPERIORE.DE
"The Pecchenino 2016 Barolo Bussia is a dark, sultry and heady expression of Nebbiolo from young vines (about 15 years old) in Monforte d'Alba. Dark cherry, plum, spice and dark iron give the wine weight and density. Compared to the 2015 vintage, I found this edition to be lighter and shorter in terms of mouthfeel, with soft tannins and an open-knit, accessible personality." Wine Advocate
"Concentrated cherry and currant flavors are joined by iron, tar, eucalyptus and tobacco elements in this dense red. It stays vibrant and persistent, ending with a lightly chewy feel." Wine Spectator
"Pecchenino’s 2016 Barolo Bussia is fabulous. Dark, ample and expansive, the 2016 possesses tremendous richness and yet retains a fairly classic sense of structure. Black cherry, menthol, tobacco, licorice and incense bring out the dark, virile side of Nebbiolo. Hints of orange peel, cinnamon and star anise add layers of nuance. This muscular, potent Barolo needs time so soften, but it is impressive in the early going." Vinous
"The intense burnt oranges and rose petals are captivating here. Incense, Thai spa and candlewax add to the complexity. Tight and suggestive with bursting acidity and tensely drawn, structured tannins. Long and very vibrant and transparent. Drink from 2025." James Suckling

Barolo Coste di Rose DOCG 2018
The latest addition to Vajra's Barolo line-up comes from a 1.5 hectare parcel in Coste di Rose, a small MGA (Menzioni Geografiche Aggiuntive) in the Barolo region. This is a steep slope at 310 metres above sea level with a high proportion of sandy soils with good drainage, whose vines and soils are cultivated in a natural way. This very accessible Barolo presents itself straightforward, forward and impresses even at a young age with its refreshing frankness. A very precise bouquet of cherry, plum, liquorice, spices and menthol. On the palate, a wide and multi-layered arc of fruit with lots of juice and power, supporting tannins and a full, long and mineral-minty finish. SUPERIORE.DE
"Bright, luminous ruby red. Rich nose with floral notes of violets, roses and a slight hint of blood orange. The palate is juicy, light, with well-integrated tannins and a pleasant aftertaste. Nice acidity, fresh and mineral finish." Falstaff
"Very clean red-berry fruit on the nose, together with citrus and cedar notes. Medium body with fine-grained tannins and a tight bead of fruit at the end." James Suckling
"The 2018 Barolo Coste di Rose is a delicate, understated Barolo that will need a bit of time to fully emerge. There's lovely purity to the fruit here, but also some angular contours that need to resolve. The 2018 is a mid-weight wine in the style of the vintage, and yet there is fine balance." Vinous
"Plenty of hidden depth of black cherry and plum. Notes of Raspberry and strawberries with complexity and a fine balance and length." Decanter
"With fruit from above the village of Barolo, the G.D. Vajra 2018 Barolo Coste di Rose shows a large aromatic scope and ample substance. This vineyard is characterized by very high density Diano sandstone, which explains the wine’s bigger sensorial impact. Its texture is velvety and smooth, and the wine offers lots of purple and red fruits with soft earth and perfumed flower. The vintage is open knit and broad in scope, perhaps lacking some of the brilliant focus you get in the cooler years." Wine Advocate

“Maroccoli” Syrah Sicilia Menfi DOC 2019 · MAGNUM
Fresh, bright ruby colour. The Syrah impresses with its intense and ripe bouquet with hints of figs, redcurrants, preserved cherries, blueberries, spices and vanilla. Velvety, elegant tannins accompany the opulent and lively structure through to the lingering final. SUPERIORE.DE
"Features fine-grained tannins that create a lightly grippy, defined frame for a plush, juicy range of baked damson plum and black cherry fruit, ground coffee, violet, sage and star anise flavors. Medium- to full-bodied and well-knit, with minerally accents of iron and smoke on the finish." Wine Spectator
"Berry fruit with flavours of dark tobacco and lead pencil, leading into a medium body and a juicy finish. Straightforward and taut tannins." James Suckling
"The Maroccoli 2019 is impossible to miss. It blossoms in the glass with a mentholated blend of dried strawberry, dusty rose and autumnal spice. Its style is elegant and racy, with cooling minerality and lively acidity lifting its dark red berry fruit. A layer of fine tannins gives it a youthful composure, while nuances of red plums and inner earth tones slowly fade away. The Maroccoli, a single varietal Syrah, is beautiful but suitable for cellaring. Leave it for two to three years to achieve the best effect." Vinous

Barolo “Castiglione” DOCG 2019
Barolo Castiglione is produced from a large number of parcels throughout the Barolo zone, many of which are of such high quality that they could be bottled separately. The 2019 vintage is beautiful in the way it combines the vibrancy of the year with a soft, inviting textural presence. Fresh cut flowers, mint, sweet spices, aniseed and red berries are beautifully interwoven in the glass. As the wine progresses, it shines with exquisite finesse, floral aromas and an exquisite overall balance. Ripe, silky tannins support the impressive finish. The 2019 version gives a first impression of how great this vintage is at Vietti. This is first-class stuff. SUPERIORE.DE
"Bright ruby red with garnet colour. Medium expression on the nose, fine earthy notes, sealing wax, ripe raspberries and cranberries, precious wood, fine floral aftertaste. Powerful on the palate, with tightly woven tannins and a clearly defined fruit core, currently still young with a delicate broad texture, earthy tones on the final." Falstaff
"Truly a classic example of the historic Barolo blend, this wine opens with a basket full of dark-hued fruits supported by more subtle elements of forest floor, truffle, dried wildflowers and wild herbs. The giving palate shows that young Nebbiolo is not just destined to rest in the cellar as plump cherries, layers of spice and supple tannins define the palate, finishing with refreshing acidity." Wine Enthusiast
"The Barolo Castiglione 2019 is elegant, translucent and refined. Crushed red berries, orange peel, mint and cinnamon adorn this elegant, wonderfully nuanced Barolo from Vietti. I particularly admire the energy here. In many vintages, the Castiglione is easy and approachable, but I think the 2019 needs a few more years to come into its own. I particularly admire its focus and polish." Vinous
"Extremely fragrant of hibiscus, flowers and watermelon with some fresh cherries. Medium-bodied with chewy, polished tannins and a fresh and lively finish. Very solid. Made from about 20 different vineyards. Needs time to mellow." James Suckling
"The Barolo Castiglione 2019 is a complex and generous wine that reflects the main characteristics of this very successful vintage. As this wine does not come from a single vineyard, it speaks more to the quality of the vintage than to a specific vineyard. The Castiglione shows generous richness and concentrated cherry fruit with dark saturation and good structure, which comes from the thicker skins that the Nebbiolo grapes developed this year. It finishes with a salty mineral note that gives it focus and elegance." Wine Advocate

“Contrada Rinazzo” Bianco Etna Superiore DOC 2022
The area around the small town of Milo is the only vineyard site on Etna where an Etna Bianco is allowed to be bottled as Superiore - and for good reason: only Carricante may be planted on the steep vineyard, which consists of dozens of small terraces. The vines are trained like a small tree on poles made of chestnut wood. The eastern exposure and the proximity of the sea allow the grapes to ripen late, resulting in very consistent acidity levels and a white wine with an aromatic finesse and freshness that is unrivalled even on Etna. SUPERIORE.DE
"Medium, sparkling straw yellow colour. Nose of pineapple and mango, some banana, underlaid with jasmine blossom, flint on the finish. Delicate fruit melt on the palate with fine acidity, the fruit is noticeable, citrus flavours on the finish, animating." Falstaff
"A structured white with razor-sharp acidity that combines with flavours of crisp white peach, green almond, crushed pine, lemon wax and petrol. Good tension and focus; it should open up well with short cellaring." Wine Spectator
"A burst of flint and smoke gives way to minty herbs and crushed green apples as the 2022 Etna Bianco Superiore Contrada Rinazzo blossoms in the glass. It washes over the palate with a texture of pure silk, while salty minerals and citrusy fruit trees saturate the palate. The 2022 keeps the energy remarkably high, fuelled by zesty acidity, while notes of sour grapefruit ripple the tongue during the long and youthfully tense final. The Rinazzo is already enjoyable today, but it also has a balance that will be worth cellaring. Wonderfully made." Vinous

Barolo “Castiglione” DOCG 2020
As always, Castiglione is mainly based on grapes from Ravera, with smaller portions from Ginestra, Mosconi, Bricco Ravera (in Monforte), Le Coste, Costabelle, Meriame, Briccolina and Codana. Every year it is a dazzling wine that shows how convincing even an "entry-level wine" from a top producer can be. Rich, voluptuous and explosive, it has enormous fullness and resonance from the very first sip. On the nose, bright red cherry and plum fruit, wild flowers, mint, blood orange and spices. Its silky tannins are accompanied by a beautiful, mentholated brightness. A real charmer! SUPERIORE.DE
"Sparkling ruby with garnet-red reflections. Elegant on the nose with notes of raspberries and black cherries, slightly ethereal after varnish, plus undergrowth and rose petal. Fresh fruit on the palate, carried by invigorating acidity and fine-grained tannins. Persistent." Falstaff
"Always a popular choice, the 2020 Barolo Castiglione has a lush approach with dark fruit, cola, wild berry coulis and smoky tar. The wine carries a hot vintage well, with approachable and powdery tannins for short- or medium-term drinkability. In terms of texture, the Castiglione has more power and body than a standard Barolo." Wine Advocate
"Fragrant, polished and vibrant, the 2020 Barolo Castiglione shows beautiful notes of crushed red berries, rose petals, mint, white pepper and orange peel from the start. This classically built, medium-bodied Barolo is noble through and through. Like all 2020s here, it will benefit from time in the bottle or good decanting." Vinous
"Fast-paced and concentrated. I like the aromas of lavender, violets and white roses alongside strawberry, cranberry and stone. Medium-bodied, with firm and fine tannins that are long and juicy. It is fine and polished. Needs three to four years to develop." James Suckling

“Vigna San Marcellino” Chianti Classico Gran Selezione DOCG 2019 (BIO)
Vigna San Marcellino Gran Selezione is both youthfully fresh and ripe and complexly muscular. It contains a healthy dose of the deeply coloured Pugnitello grape, and on the nose liquorice, tarragon and broom mingle with lush plum and subtle roasted aromas that are highly seductive in their complexity. Deep, taut and lively on the palate, loaded with black cherry and rich, velvety tannins. The texture is silky, while subtle chalky notes and a salty minerality give it plenty of energy and lead it into a juicy, refreshing finish. Vigna San Marcellino is a convincing wine with enormous ageing potential every year. SUPERIORE.DE
"Bright, intense ruby red colour. Clearly sweet blood orange, sour cherries and black pepper on the nose, followed by an aroma of dark chocolate. Juicy, ripe cherry fruit on the palate, pleasant acidity with soft tannins, elegant and long finish." Falstaff
"Lots of Sangiovese with some Pugnitello from the vineyard of the same name: engaging bouquet of black cherries and lilac, spicy notes; the lively acidity and the excellent, still youthful tannins are well balanced, the finish is long on notes of redcurrants and minerality." Vinum
"Beautiful complexity and spice, with walnuts, grilled citrus, plums and sweet spices. Full-bodied yet quite restrained, with fine, dusty tannins and a long finish. Polished." James Suckling
"The Chianti Classico Gran Selezione Vigneto San Marcellino 2019 is a dark, brooding wine. Black cherry, leather, smoke, incense and tobacco contribute to an impression of seriousness and pure power. This is a particularly dark, virile edition of San Marcellino. Give it a few years to mature." Vinous
"Aromas and flavours of violets, blackcurrants and black cherries take centre stage in this supple, energetic yet elegant red wine. Vibrant and straightforward, with a firm line of tannins and great length on the iron-rich finish. It ends with fruity, mineral and spicy notes and shows solid grip." Wine Spectator

Deep ruby red with garnet-coloured reflections. Dense and intense aroma of red fruits with notes of leather, earth, spices and minerals, with a hint of vanilla and sandalwood. Full-bodied on the palate, well-defined tannins supported by a dense structure, leading to a long-lasting and very smooth final. A Bordeaux blend in a class of its own! SUPERIORE.DE
"The 2018 Burdese is a straightforward expression of Cabernet Sauvignon (70%) and Cabernet Franc (30%) that doesn't impose. The wine is soft on the palate with medium-bodied layers of ripe cherry, plum, soft earth and leather. The tannins are immediate and soft." Wine Advocate
"This Bordeaux blend shows berries, fresh herbs such as parsley and a hint of vanilla. It has a medium to full body with medium round tannins and a juicy finish. Very enjoyable now, but it will be much better in two or three years." James Suckling
"Dusty dried flowers, crushed rock, graphite and red plums form a dark, seductive bouquet when the 2018 Burdese reveals itself in the glass. The palate is lapped by soft textures contrasted by a core of tart wild berries. Mineral tones slowly saturate. A web of fine tannins lends it youthful composure, nicely balanced by a hint of sour citrus, while the 2018 tapers off for a long time and yet displays wonderful balance." Vinous
"The nose is dark and rich, yet also layered and subtle, with both heavy aromas of petrol and tar and juicier notes of blackberries, figs and dark chocolate. The figs and chocolate carry the palate, though wild herbs and bitter orange give buoyancy. Tannins are unyielding, while acid is more discreet but still perceptible." Wine Enthusiast

“Casalferro” Rosso Toscana IGT 2019
A study commissioned by Francesco Ricasoli has shown that there are 19 different types of soil on Brolio. This made it possible to precisely define the sites that are particularly good for Merlot, from which wines with a unique structure and unmistakable flavour are produced. With the 2018 vintage, Francesco Ricasoli is now presenting the "new" Casalferro, whose grapes come from the three different vineyards Vigna Casalferro, Vigna Pecchierino and Vigna Sodacci. Although the production volume has been drastically reduced, the result is impressive!
A Tuscan Merlot as it is written in the book. On the nose, complex aromas of dark red fruit, delicate cedar wood, leather, very spicy. Initially taut and dense on the palate, it opens up as it progresses and expands with impressive elegance. The interplay between bouquet and complexity on the palate is perfectly balanced and its impressive size is already unmistakable. This Merlot will have a great future. SUPERIORE.DE
"Rich ruby red with a garnet-red rim. Fresh sour cherries and plums on the nose, with violets and a touch of coriander in the background. Fruity and juicy on the palate, with well-integrated tannins and a long final." Falstaff
"A rich, dark expression of Merlot, this red walks the fine line between austerity and generosity, with the latter gaining prominence over the course of the fine finish. Dense, with the tight texture working in tandem with black cherry, blackberry, iron and spice flavours." Wine Spectator
"The Barone Ricasoli 2019 Casalferro showcases its potential in a classic vintage. The DNA of the wine, which is made exclusively from Merlot, is characterised by the grape variety, but the terroir also plays a major role in this presentation. You know you're drinking a wine from Tuscany thanks to a delicate bundle of flavours that includes wild cherry, violet fruit, violets and spices. This wine gives an Italian personality to a French grape variety." Wine Advocate
"The 2019 Casalferro is magnificent. Ripe dark cherry and plum fruit, liquorice, spice, new leather, menthol and mocha are combined in a generous, lush Merlot that offers much of the vibrancy of a Chianti Classico." Vinous
"Blueberry, plum and red and black berry scents mingle with wildflowers, spices and a hint of roasted coffee beans. Stony and sapid in the mouth, it's all about elegance with beautiful cool blue fruits accompanied by a touch of creaminess on the mid-palate, then a long, super-fresh and poised finish." Decanter
"Super flavours of fresh violets, black olives, crushed raspberries and blackberries. Also a hint of dried flowers. Full-bodied but compact and polished, with superbly crafted tannins that compress the palate and give it a velvety texture. Taut and concentrated. The most precise and refined Casalferro ever. It needs at least three or four years to show what it's made of, but it has great potential. Best from 2026 onwards." James Suckling
"Produced for the first time not only with the best grapes from the vineyard of the same name, but also with contributions from the Pecchierino and Sodacci vineyards, this is a pure Merlot of stature with intense aromas of blueberries, currants and balsamic herbs on the nose. The flavour is elegant and spectacularly clean. Salty and spicy tannins, excellent drinkability." Luca Gardini

“Sito dell’Ulmo” Merlot Sicilia Menfi DOC 2019 · MAGNUM
Intense and enveloping aromas of blackberry, dark fruit and cocoa. Memorable, full-bodied fruit and firm tannins on the palate, which give this Merlot its unique elegance. Pleasantly round, long and with traces of mint on the finish. SUPERIORE.DE
"The nose starts sweet and wild with aromas of blueberries, raspberries and a hint of vanilla, before spicy notes of leather, herbs and pepper make themselves known. On the palate, flavours of cherry, vanilla and milk chocolate support the berry element before a lingering, herbaceous and stony finish." Wine Enthusiast
"The 2019 Sito dell'Ulmo is remarkably pretty, wafting up with a blend of wild blueberries, sage, dusty dried violets and hints of tobacco. It's round and supple, possessing cooling acidity and crisp wild berry fruits that cascade across the palate as rosy inner florals form toward the close. The 2019 tapers off gently tannic yet wildly fresh, finishing with notes of lavender and crushed blackberry. Stunning." Vinous

Metodo Classico Trento DOC brut · MAGNUM
Fine traditional brut from the Lunelli family, who work tirelessly on the authenticity of their Trentino sparkling wines. A wide range of aromas and an elegant flavour with a good structure offer first-class enjoyment. SUPERIORE.DE
"A hint of nuttiness that underlines the flavours of preserved lemon and pear. Redcurrant richness, creamy, rich and round, with impressive mousse and tangy red apple bite. The well-formed and well-integrated bubbles give the wine a creamy texture that melds with the richness of the fruit. Sweet spices and nougat cream on the finish. Great stuff." Decanter
"The Brut Trento opens with a blend of dusty dried flowers, cardamom and freshly sliced pears. It fills the palate with a silky pearl of fine bubbles and takes on a savoury to sweet sensation, while tactile mineral tones mingle with ripe fruit trees. It finishes with admirable length and candied citrus fruits that taper off remarkably fresh. I love the balance and complexity of this wine, especially for a non-vintage brut." Vinous
"A refined and expressive aperitif-style sparkling wine. On the palate, it is bright and lively, with a fine, lacy mousse that carries a delicious palette of pineapple, tangerine peel and white cherry fruit, accented by ground ginger, white flowers and fleur de sel." Wine Spectator
"The nose is a tantalizing medley of crisp green apples, zesty lemon, and a hint of toasty brioche. On the palate, a lively chorus of citrus fruits and white peaches harmonizes with a subtle undercurrent of minerality. The bubbles are so fine and persistent, they'll make your taste buds dance with joy. The finish is refreshing and clean, leaving you craving another sip." Wine Enthusiast

“Zanna” Montepulciano d’Abruzzo Riserva Colline Teramane DOCG 2017 · MAGNUM in gift box
Deep dark ruby red. Full, deep and explosive bouquet reminiscent of dark berries, tobacco and liquorice. Illuminati's single-vineyard classic Zanna, with its elegant, very complex taste and delicate oak spice, leaves nothing to be desired every year. SUPERIORE.DE
"The 2017 Montepulciano d'Abruzzo Riserva Zanna, with its dark purple hue, slowly comes to life in the glass. A blend of blackberries and currants is complemented by nuances of mint, chalk dust and exotic spices. The palate is washed by mineral red berries and mentholated herbal notes that unfold towards the end. A layer of fine-grained tannins saturates the palate and gives it a youthful structure, supported by a touch of residual acidity that maintains balance. Give it another year of ageing for best effect." Vinous
"Rich red and black berries with notes of shellfish, dried herbs and a hint of balsamic. Medium to full body with a relaxed palate where the firm, fine and polished tannins bring out a drier aspect of the fruit. This wine needs another year to come together better. Try it from 2023." James Suckling
"This balanced, polished red wine displays rich aromas of red cherries dipped in alcohol with accents of menthol and tobacco. The palate is soft and supple, with a perky cherry flavour wrapped in dewy herbs and cigar box accents. Gentle tannins and bright acidity give this red wine a coherent texture." Wine Enthusiast
"With a dark appearance and the bold concentration of a hot vintage, the Illuminati 2017 Montepulciano d'Abruzzo Colline Teramane Riserva Zanna plays up its dense flavors of black fruit, spice and sweet earth. The bouquet is very generous, and this large-scale approach gives this wine plenty of latitude for grilled meat dishes." Wine Advocate

“Fratta” Rosso Veneto IGT 2017
This beautiful cuvée of Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot from a great vintage presents itself impeccably! Deep, complex fruit bouquet, rounded off by fine sweet spices, tobacco and coffee. Punchy and textured on the palate, blackberry, raspberry and a solidly woven tannin structure in the several-minute final. A wine with great development potential! SUPERIORE.DE
"The 2017 Fratta lifts up with a dark and alluring display of black currants, sweet herbs, rich notes of mocha and savory brown spice. This is cool-toned and spicy, a bit lean, yet with a polished feel, showing tart blackberries offset by hints of sour citrus and toasty oak, as violet-tinged florals form toward the close. Fine tannins make themselves known throughout the finale, as this tapers off lightly structured, with hints of licorice lingering long." Vinous
"Deep, dense aromas of crushed black fruit with notes of charcoal and dried herbs, such as rosemary and thyme. The fruit envelops the lightly firm tannins on the full-bodied palate, creating a dense, velvety and lengthy mouthful. A well-crafted red that’s highly concentrated and bursting with flavor, but it also shows astute balance." James Suckling
"Here's an iconic wine from the Veneto made from a blend of 68% Cabernet Sauvignon and 32% Merlot. The Maculan 2017 Fratta shows enormous intensity, muscle and brawn. The wine has absorbed every last drop of sunshine, heat and dry weather conditions that characterized the 2017 growing season, and it does so with elegance and poise. The wine is impeccably balanced with dark fruit and spice. It's the kind of big-boned red wine you'll want to pair with a hearty dish of barbecue or marinated beef." Wine Advocate

Brunello di Montalcino “Vigna del Lago” DOCG 2019
In the past, the northern slope of Montalcino was not planted with vines, but was cultivated with cereals, olives and cherries. In this area influenced by the Apennines, the seasons are more pronounced, continental and the north wind significantly lowers the temperature in winter. It is therefore the coldest Brunello region at this time of year, but also the wettest. This northern slope is a gentle hill: a characteristic that is more reminiscent of the Crete Senesi area, right next door, than the two stiffer, steeper and warmer southern slopes of Montalcino.
Due to the climate and the origin of the soil, the grapes in this area of Montalcino are harvested last every year. Vigna del Lago is the vineyard that welcomes all visitors travelling from the north of Montalcino. It takes its name from the lake that surrounds it and which plays a fundamental role in the microclimate of the area; the soil is a constant alternation between clay and strips of very fine Galestro.
Vigna del Lago is a historic cru from the Val di Suga winery, it is an old-school Brunello, from the times before the arrival of barriques and technology. An authentic product that is enjoying increasing demand. Unlike the Poggio al Granchio, which is aged in new Liters French barriques, this wine matures in large 30 and 50-hectolitre Slavonian oak barrels. It is a wine with a low alcohol content, light orange-ruby colour, with very fine and almost imperceptible tannins, with a floral nose of citrus notes, myrtle and fresh cherries. It is a Brunello of great richness and balance and also has a very pleasant lightness, well-contoured acidity and a salty, mineral finish. SUPERIORE.DE
"Bright, shiny ruby red colour. Spicy nose of cypress, herbs and red berries, with fine earthy, stony notes. Beautiful juiciness on the palate, clear fruit and tightly woven tannins, cool, with an appealing feel, beautiful salinity on the final." Falstaff
"The 2019 Brunello di Montalcino Vigna del Lago is dark and brooding, with a delicate blend of ashen stones and grilled herbs that segue into dried black cherries. This wine is silky and enveloping, with fresh acidity and vibrant, ripe wild berry flavours that cascade. Lively acidity keeps the energy high, while the 2019 finishes long and spotty but surprisingly juicy, leaving hints of violet pastille over a bed of fine-grained tannins." Vinous
"A delicate style with aromas and flavours of strawberries, cherries, roses and stony minerals. Subliminally savoury, with light, powdery tannins that cling to the palate on the long, loamy finish." Wine Spectator
"The Vigna del Lago, which surrounds the Val di Suga wine cellar in the north-east of Montalcino, is cooled by northerly winds and bordered by cypress trees. The vines are planted at an altitude of 280 metres on clay soil. This bottling is aged in 40-hectolitre Slavonian oak barrels. The wine is light, dense and still slightly reduced at the moment, opening up with dark cherries and alpine herbs. The fine-boned frame contains cranberries and redcurrants with traces of blood orange and forest roots. Vertical tannins occupy the mid-palate, and the finish is carried by lively, citrusy acidity. This austerity says: wait!" Decanter
"Smells of subtle fruits and flowers with cedar and sandalwood. Medium-bodied with fine tannins and a fresh and fruity finish. All about beautiful, perfectly ripe fruit with an undertone of citrus blossom. Drinkable now, but better in two or three years." James Suckling
"Notes of dogwood on the nose, with a hint of lemon thyme and a touch of gardenia. Spicy on the palate, with balsamic and floral notes." Luca Gardini

“Capo Martino” Bianco Venezia Giulia IGT 2021
"Our philosophy is rooted in family tradition and closely linked to the border region where we are located. A crossroads of Central European cultures that we have always tried to reflect in our wines. Capo Martino expresses these concepts with elegance, body and complexity. We are highly satisfied with the results achieved and are constantly investing in innovative projects to constantly improve the quality of our wines and achieve new goals." Silvio Jermann
Capo Martino is a highly elegant blend of Tocai Friulano, Ribolla Gialla, Malvasia Istriana and Picolit. Wonderful golden yellow colour, complex bouquet with the aroma of ripe, local and tropical fruit, a slight hint of vanilla. Velvety on the palate, with a perfectly balanced flavour and delicate harmony. SUPERIORE.DE
"Bright straw yellow with a delicate olive green colour. Initially fine exotic notes on the nose, mango, pineapple, fine hazelnut, cold smoke, inviting, subtle grapefruit on the finish. Very juicy and clear on the palate, with great expression and length, salty final." Falstaff
"The 2021 Capo Martino smells of a pretty mix of wild flowers, crushed nectarines, grapefruit zest and flint. On the palate, it unfolds with an onslaught of minerality, ginger and sour citrus, while liquid flowers and savoury spices combine. A saline note defines the final as the 2021 tapers off lightly textured and dramatically long. This is a fantastic vintage of Capo Martino, which is a single-vineyard blend of indigenous grape varieties." Vinous
"A blend of sliced apples, fresh citrus and crushed herbs with undertones of orange blossom and crushed stone. Full and persistent with a long acidity and a chalky, mineral backbone. Fresh and crisp with citrus and floral character. Some phenolic notes on the finish give it structure and a savoury note." James Suckling

“La Gioia” Rosso Toscana IGT 2020
La Gioia is the pure expression of Sangiovese with fruit from the estate's best vineyards. It is a big, expressive wine every year, retaining its crisp, medium-bodied mouthfeel. Tones of cherries, wild berries, violets and spices make for an elegant and very pure bouquet. The finish is characterised by fresh acidity in the typical and very refined Riecine style. SUPERIORE.DE
"Elegant, bright ruby red colour with a brightening rim. A complex nose of juicy cherries, redcurrants, black pepper, eucalyptus and cedar wood. Fresh on the palate with fine-grained, still youthful tannins, final with herbal flavours and pomegranate." Falstaff
"The 2020 Rosso La Gioia is a very good wine. It has the freshness and liveliness typical of these wines, but also a little less character and personality than the pure Sangiovese wines in the range. Nevertheless, La Gioia offers much of the character that characterises the wines of this small winery in Gaiole." Vinous
"The nose is a kaleidoscope of flavours: balsamic and plums, the freshness of earth and stones that assert themselves against the richness of mushrooms and grilled meat. On the palate, there is a beguiling sweetness, but a lingering, tart plum skin note provides balance along with assertive acidity and tannins." Wine Enthusiast
"In the red capsule, this wine is composed almost entirely of Sangiovese with a small addition of Merlot. The Riecine 2020 La Gioia offers a plush and immediate personality with a sweet, earthy note that follows from the nose to the finish. It shows medium concentration, and the fruit feels slightly riper and softer in this vintage. These characteristics give it a more accessible approach overall." Wine Advocate
"Very spicy nose of liquorice root, raspberries and cherries. Powerful palate with cherry flavours, crisp acidity, ripe chalky tannins and a medium to full body with good length." James Suckling

“Ilatraia” Rosso Toscana IGT 2019 (BIO)
Opulent nose of red berries, pleasant smoky notes and fine herbal spice. Opulent and round on the palate, the fine tannins give the wine a delicate but definite structure and the necessary seriousness until the long, soft finish. The well-integrated wood and the fruit of the Cabernet grape find an exciting symbiosis with the rather strict and taut Petit Verdot style in a very harmonious way. SUPERIORE.DE
"Bright, intense ruby. Opens with slightly smoky notes, then lots of spices, coriander seeds and cardamom, finally dark plum. Full and intense in attack and course, opens with gripping, hearty tannin, grippy, but also shows lots of juicy fruit, long finish." Falstaff
"The 2019 Ilatraia, Brancaia's top wine from Maremma, is racy and lush from the start. A whole range of spicy and savoury overtones envelop the dark blue and blackish fruit. This heady blend is very expressive today. Blackberries, espresso, liquorice and leather climax the lush finish." Vinous
"This wine strides forward with an extremely herbaceous nose, from oregano to thyme to tomato leaf. It also conveys the peppery savoriness of capsicum plus the depth of newly turned soil and a final pop of sour cherries. The palate continues the theme, with more peppers and cherries, but also sundried tomatoes and balsamic vinegar. Polished and consistent tannins make for a fun but slick balance of savory and sweet." Wine Enthusiast
"This is a generous and layered expression with dark fruits, baker's chocolate and elegant spice. I tasted this wine alongside the 2018 vintage, which showed much more balance due to the additional year of ageing. Based on this observation, I recommend a longer drinking window for this wine. The 2019 shows plenty of primary fruit, brightness and concentration." Wine Advocate
"It has aromas of blackberries, blackcurrants, black olives, cedar, dark chocolate, pralines, salted almonds and mint. Also some gunmetal and graphite. Creamy and flattering, with velvety tannins and a full body. Delicious notes of salted chocolate. So much power and concentration, yet it remains elegant. Long." James Suckling

“Badia a Passignano” Chianti Classico Gran Selezione S. Donato in Poggio DOCG 2021
Badia a Passignano is always one of the many highlights in the Antinori range and is probably the estate's most refined and elegant Sangiovese. Its character is medium-bodied and supple, but with plenty of fruit intensity, which is typical of the vineyard of the same name. It skilfully strikes a balance between richness and finesse, captivating from the very first sip. Lavender, mint, blue-purple fruit and liquorice are beautifully brought out. It is a very traditional and noble expression of the Tuscan grape that is hard to resist. SUPERIORE.DE
"The classic Gran Selezione of the Antinori family from vineyards around the Abbey of Passignano: Intriguing Sangiovese nose with aromas of red berries and flowers; finesse-rich structure, the tightly woven tannins and acidity in balance, persistent final." Vinum
"Dark, shiny, ruby-red centre with a fine rim. Dense, inviting bouquet of juicy blackberries and cherries, plus tobacco, leather and a hint of thyme. Powerful and very juicy on the palate, firm, well-integrated tannins with fresh acidity, subtle saltiness on the long final." Falstaff
"A deep well of cherry, pomegranate, iron, tobacco and wild herb aromas and flavours underscore this intense red wine, while a dense layer of tannins provides grip. Lively acidity drives the lingering aftertaste of fruit, mineral and herbal notes." Wine Spectator
"The 2021 Badia a Passignano has developed well and has successfully shed its oak signature. What you get now is a beautiful mouthful of rich, ripe black fruit with background notes of green spices and smoked bacon. A hint of fragrant rose comes through beautifully after a few minutes at a certain point. Overall, this wine from San Donato in Poggio UGA offers bright and lively fruit. With its long winemaking tradition and its first production in 1988, this wine is, so to speak, the control sample against which the three new UGA expressions are measured." Wine Advocate
"The 2021 has some notes of green herbs as well as bitter cherry, orange peel and sweet vanilla. There is a hint of forest green and a balsamic note as well as spicy black pepper. On the palate, the tannins are firm, upright and assertive, but always refined. The texture and weight are beautifully soft and enveloping, and the acidity gives the wine a pleasant freshness on the finish. At the moment it is still a little characterised by oak, but it is still young and needs time. A beautifully crafted wine that expresses a strong identity." Decanter
"The 2021 Chianti Classico Gran Selezione Badia a Passignano is one of the best editions of this wine I've ever tasted. Ripe blue fruit, spice, chocolate, leather and liquorice fill out the layers in a lush, full-bodied Gran Selezione. Again, the winemaking and ageing changes have resulted in a wine that combines sophistication with textural resonance. Outstanding." Vinous

“Scarrone Vigna Vecchia” Barbera d’Alba DOC 2021 (BIO)
Complex aromas with notes of wild berries, chocolate and mint, plenty of power, fruit and fullness on the palate, spicy and opulent final. A Barbera that can and should mature. The small edition of this exquisite extract from just under 1.4 hectares of vineyard usually sells out in no time at all. SUPERIORE.DE
"A smooth, lively red wine with sweet spices centred around a core of plum, black cherry and blueberry. Smooth in texture, with a line of dusty tannins on the finish. Balanced, just needs time. Decant now." Wine Spectator
"Floral aromas with sandalwood to the character of black berries and black cherries. Medium-bodied with firm and racy tannins. A juicy and bright finish. 50% of the vineyards were planted in 1918." James Suckling
"As if staring into a purple void, this deep Barbera draws the attention immediately open with aromas of framboise liquor, dried violets and baking spice. Forward, fun and serious at the same time, the wine pops with tart cherry jam and wild herb flavors with vibrant acidity keeping the palate fresh." Wine Enthusiast
"The Barbera d'Alba Scarrone Vigna Vecchia 2021 is endowed with enormous depth and resonance. Black cherry, plum, smoke, liquorice and chocolate are all turned up to the max. The Vigna Vecchia is Vietti's most extracted Barbera. As such, it is also the one most clearly associated with the wines of the past. It is certainly a good performance, but it is not significantly better than the Scarrone." Vinous
