Ceretto's entry-level Barbaresco comes from different sites, mostly younger vines from Asili (35%) and the lower part of Bernadot (65%). Bright, elegant ruby red. Neris Edel-Rosso was born with the purchase of a very special vineyard. True to the winery's philosophy of only producing wines from the best terroirs around Montalcino, the small 7-hectare plot with over 45-year-old vines was acquired in 2018. This was preceded by over 40 years of friendship with the previous owners, with whom Giovanni Neri planted the vines and nurtured and cared for them over the past decades. Incidentally, the best grapes from this vineyard have been used for a small quantity of the Brunello di Montalcino of the same name since the 2018 vintage.

Fine aroma of strawberries, herbs and young leather. Taut and lively on the palate, the Sangiovese fruit is very precisely nuanced, flanked by powerful but by no means aggressive tannins. The vineyards in Gaiole and Greve form the core of the blend, with a hint of fruit from Radda. Stylistically balanced, very finesse-rich Chianti Classico Gran Selezione from a small single vineyard (vineyard no. 7) in the Castelnuovo-Berardenga area, where the temperatures are always somewhat higher than in the rest of the Chianti Classico. Dark shining ruby. Elegant bouquet of the single-varietal Sangiovese of red berries with very delicate notes of tobacco. Pajé is a small vineyard near the village of Barbaresco, whose calcareous soils generally produce bright and floral wines and this wine fulfils this expectation in an impressive way, combined with an already remarkable density, which it only gradually reveals. On the nose, it shows intensity and purity, with penetrating aromas of red fruits. The attack is supple, bright but weighty and very focussed. The lively acidity lends tension and persistence to the finish. Already tantalising today, but with the unclouded prospect of further positive surprises! SUPERIORE.DE

Etna is one of Italy's most fascinating wine regions and Andrea Franchetti is probably the most fanatical producer in this area. Added to this are eighty-year-old indigenous Nerello Mascalese vines. The single vineyard Contrada Porcaria has a thoroughly masculine personality. Darkly scented with ripe fruit and menthol, the palate is predominantly spice and mineral with many other facets. Pora overwhelms with incredible complexity and a variety of aromas ranging from stone fruit, raspberries and liquorice to dried flowers, spices and white truffle. Despite all its lush fruit, the Pora has a good structural foundation. Juicy notes of dark cherries, plums, espresso, menthol and liquorice unfold in this forward, wonderfully inviting Riserva from the Produttori. The wine outdoes itself in flavours, but its lean and polished personality continues on the palate. Historically, the vineyards of Castello di Fonterutoli are located in the areas of three neighbouring municipalities of Chianti Classico: Castellina in Chianti, Castelnuovo Berardenga and Radda in Chianti. With the 2017 vintage, the Mazzei family vinified all three large vineyards separately as Chianti Classico Gran Selezione for the first time in order to recognise the diversity of the terroir: Castello di Fonterutoli, Vicoregio 36 and Badiòla.

Badiòla is the historic name of a vineyard in the municipality of Radda, whose grapes have been vinified separately by the Mazzei family as a Gran Selezione since the 2017 vintage. Bright ruby-garnet colour, a restrained yet clear nose of wild berries, blue flowers, undergrowth and hints of dark pepper. On the palate, Badiòla is masterfully balanced, almost weightless. The very well-integrated tannins make it smooth from the first to the last glass and it impresses with its long finish - its elegance is magnificent! SUPERIORE.DE

The single-vineyard Barbaresco Riserva Ovello is, as always, one of the outstanding wines in this series. It shows the energy and tension so typical of this site, but with a slightly more mature profile than is the norm. Ovello dives straight into the volatile Nebbiolo aromas, with a focus on liquorice, tar, blue flowers and campfire ash. The palate is full-bodied, with flavours of crushed raspberries, juicy Marasca cherries, liquorice and nutmeg as well as firm, tight-knit tannins. The fresh acidity provides tension and balance. Fragore by Donnafugata from the Etna region of Montelaguardia in Randazzo joins the collection of iconic wines Mille e una Notte and Ben Ryè. With only 15,000 bottles, Donnafugata has produced a limited edition treasure. Fragore means thunder in Italian and refers to the volcanic thunder of Mount Etna, Europe's highest and most active volcano. Grapes of the autochthonous Nerello Mascalese grape variety from selected vineyards were used.

Bright, radiant ruby red colour. Spicy, floral bouquet of redcurrants, tobacco, nutmeg and violets, with a delicate flint note. Beautifully complex and elegant on the palate, the finely composed tannins guide every sip into a persistent final. SUPERIORE.DE

Rio Sordo Riserva is particularly dense, rich and balanced. On the nose we find roses, spices and raspberries. Very complex on the palate, with marvellous depth and juiciness. Historically, the vineyards of Castello di Fonterutoli are located in the areas of three neighbouring municipalities of Chianti Classico: Castellina in Chianti, Castelnuovo Berardenga and Radda in Chianti. With the 2017 vintage, the Mazzei family vinified all three large vineyards separately as Chianti Classico Gran Selezione for the first time in order to recognise the diversity of the terroir: Castello di Fonterutoli, Vicoregio 36 and Badiòla.

As a result of 50 years of research, 36 biotypes of the Sangiovese grape were planted on a sunny plateau near Castelnuova Berardenga, from which this extremely interesting and unique wine was created a few years ago. The overall impression is very balanced and straightforward with hints of red cherries, spices, dried blueberries and tobacco. It is the warmest and most balanced of the three Gran Selezione wines. The individual parcels (micro-locations) on Etna are called Contrade and the Contrada Passochianche (PC) is the Chardonnay cru from the magical hand of Andrea Franchetti. The visionary, who sadly passed away in 2021, planted high-density Chardonnay here at an altitude of around 900 metres back in 2000. The 2018 vintage marked the debut of a wine that impressively reflects Franchetti's many years of experience on Etna. Like all Contrade wines, it has its very own personality and demonstrates very clearly how a grape variety gains its very own form of expression in different locations. The "61" line stands for the year of birth of the first Franciacorta, which was created in 1961 in the centuries-old Berlucchi vineyards. The grapes come from four vineyards between Corte Franca and Provaglio d'Iseo.
