This Nebbiolo comes from one of the best vineyards in the Roero and is vinified by Luciano Sandrone with the same care as a Barolo. Brilliant ruby-garnet colour. Scenario is Argentiera's new top-quality Vermentino from the Bolgheri DOC. The grapes were matured in equal parts in ceramic eggs (clayvers) and long barrique barrels (cigars). Fine nutty notes and the aroma of pale green apples emerge in the glass, accompanied by floral notes with a hint of lime and melon peel. The Nerello grapes (100% Mascalese) come from the northern slope of Etna from plots in the Contrada Dafara Galluzzo in the Rovittello district. Opens in a delicate ruby red colour, then fine, heady, spicy on the nose, revealing a pretty basket of red fruits after a few minutes of aeration. Initially closed on the palate, only gradually revealing its flavour facets, then medium pressure in the middle, with a very fine structure and almost Burgundian finesse and elegance. The name Mare Antico (ancient sea) is a tribute to the marine fossils and shells found in the soils of Orvieto. It is a beautiful blend of 55% Grechetto, 20% Vermentino, 20% Chardonnay and 5% Procanico and is the house's flagship wine every year.

Mare Antico blows like a cool breeze from a mountain top, mixing crushed rock with raw almonds, a hint of sage, ginger and flint in its interesting bouquet. It flows across the palate with skilful ease, long and citrusy. It also has a lovely inner sweetness contrasted by candied lime and salty minerals. Finishes structured and crisp, with a crisp green apple and residual acidity that begs for the next sip. The complexity of this wine is unrivalled, coupled with an overwhelming balance. The Pigato grape has great ageing and maturation potential, especially in Liguria. U Baccan (Ligurian: the head) comes mainly from vines in the Russeghine vineyard, which are over 50 years old, produce a very low yield and give it enormous complexity. Intense straw yellow in colour with bright golden-green reflections. The bouquet is impressively pure with beguiling hints of sage, thyme, peach, mango, cedar bark, acacia honey and silica. Benanti's latest white wine comes 100% from the small vineyard (Contrada) Cavaliere. The vineyards in the municipality of Santa Maria di Licodìa develop at a considerable altitude (approx. 900 metres above sea level) with favourable conditions for all indigenous varieties, both red and white berries, which are cultivated here with Guyot pruning. Here, both the Nerello and the Carricante produce wines with a well-defined structure and typical varietal flavours. The vines are around 50 years old and grow on sandy, volcanic soil that is rich in minerals. The climate is alpine, with little rainfall and provides the vines with a high degree of ventilation and very large temperature differences between day and night.
