“50 & 50” Avignonesi e Capannelle Rosso Toscana IGT 2019 · MAGNUM in OWC
50 & 50 - Tuscan cult wine made from 50 per cent Merlot from Avignonesi and 50 per cent Sangiovese from Capannelle. Bright ruby colour with a fine garnet rim. Elegant, very elegant nose with clear notes of ripe cherries, some blackberry, wonderfully balanced. Full-bodied on the palate, shows plenty of fruit, then develops a densely structured tannin, long final with subtle tobacco and pomegranate notes. SUPERIORE.DE
"The 2019 50 & 50, an equal-part blend of Merlot and Sangiovese, is darkly alluring with dusty rose, crushed black cherries, lavender and crushed stone. It's silky-smooth with a mineral tinge up front that gives way to masses of tart wild berry fruits and savory spice. This finishes long and saturating, with a coating of grippy tannins and a wild blueberry concentration." Vinous
"The subtle savoriness with some orange zest and baking spices give complexity to the steely, mineral nose. Full-bodied on the palate highlighted by its immaculate texture with firm, fine-grained tannins. Long, nicely savory and mineral finish to close." James Suckling
"The Avignonesi & Capannelle 2019 50 & 50 is a celebrated blend of equal parts Merlot and Sangiovese. The Merlot comes from the Avignonesi estate and Capannelle produces the Sangiovese in this all-Tuscan partnership that was kicked off in 1988. In fact, they claim to be one of the oldest joint ventures of this kind anywhere in the world of wine. This shows dark fruit concentration, blackberry preserves, spice and sweet tobacco. It is texturally rich thanks to its abundant fruit weight and softness." Wine Advocate

“Il Borro” Rosso Toscana IGT 2019 (BIO) · 6 bottles in OWC
The top wine from the winery of the same name presents itself in an exemplary manner and as a kind of reference for many other so-called Super Tuscans in the region. Deep ruby red in colour with light red reflections. Dark fruit, spices, herbs, some leather and a fine tarry note on the nose. The flavours then unfold powerfully and concentrated on the palate, yet it glides velvety with a wonderfully balanced acid-tannin ratio into a rich, well-proportioned and long finish. SUPERIORE.DE
"Powerful attack with notes of forest fruits and spices; combines character with elegance, the tannins are fine-grained and interact with the acidity, with a polished final and length." Vinum
"On the nose, sour cherries and blackberries roll around in earth and wild herbs, then spread out on the palate over flavours of vanilla, dark chocolate and espresso. Lively acidity and penetrating spiciness emphasise the earthy saltiness that Il Borro expresses in a unique way. Lush but refined." Wine Enthusiast
"The Il Borro 2019 Il Borro shows very good definition of each of its components. The Syrah brings freshness and lift to the bouquet. The Merlot is aged in botte grande to bring out an authentic taste of the variety with earth and soil. The Cabernet Sauvignon gives firmness and structure. Bigger oak casks are used to help mitigate the alcohol content that, in the case of this wine, comes in at 15%." Wine Advocate
"Fresh and floral with aromas of black cherry and lavender, leading to a medium body with well-integrated tannins that spread nicely across the palate. It becomes silky and beautiful. A hint of smoke and spice at the end. Crisp on the finish." James Suckling

Amarone della Valpolicella Classico DOCG 2015 · MAGNUM in OWC
Here comes 1st place in James Suckling's TOP wines 2024: this great wine is only released for sale nine years after the harvest. The slow drying of the fully ripe grapes gives this cru its immense power and density as well as its extraordinary character with powerful ripeness, fruit fullness, beautiful concentration and great elegance. On the palate, Bertani's Amarone demonstrates freshness, noble lightness and great dynamism. An exciting wine and for decades probably the most classic Amarone - the archetype, so to speak - of the entire appellation. SUPERIORE.DE
"A vivid ruby color with a garnet tinge and super-restrained nose of licorice, oak bark, smoke, wood, cigar box, leather, dark chocolate, crushed violets and prunes. Freshness and subtlety. Full-bodied and elegant on the palate due to ripe, filigree tannins with long acidity and a toasty, savory aftertaste. One of the great Amarones. Corvina and Rondinella. Ready to drink now, but intended for the long haul." James Suckling

Limitation of 1 articles per customerBarolo “Falletto” DOCG 2020
The Barolo Falletto from the vineyard of the same name in Serralunga, where the winery is located, has a wonderfully complex and racy personality. It impresses with the depth and intensity of its dark fruit and the outstanding overall balance that can only be found in this coveted vineyard. Its spectrum ranges from small dark berries to menthol, flowers and liquorice through to a present yet consistently elegant tannin. It is a particularly precise and direct Barolo without being loud. However, its full character, variety of flavours and finesse will only really come to the fore with further bottle ageing. SUPERIORE.DE
"Smoky cherry and wild berry fruit, nutmeg, Amarena cherry. Melting and powerful in the mouth, also grippy with a flattering sweetness and texture, will only develop its full potential in 5-8 years." Weinwisser
"Transparent carmine red. Again slightly spicy and slightly floral. Sweet and rich and very flattering. Long and by no means simple. More fruit than tannin at this early stage." Jancis Robinson
"Strawberry, cherry, rose, eucalyptus and stony mineral flavors are framed by dense, fine-grained tannins in this graceful, firmly structured red. Elegant and very Burgundy in profile, with a vibrant character and excellent length." Wine Spectator
"The depth and beauty of this wine are so tantalising and attractive that you want to drink the whole bottle. It is medium to full-bodied with cherry, strawberry and white truffle flavours. Juicy and precise, with a real presence and complexity when it opens up. Best after 2027, but already beautiful now." James Suckling

“Vigneto La Casuccia” Chianti Classico Gran Selezione DOCG 2011 · MAGNUM in gift box
Chianti Classico La Casuccia from a single vineyard of the same name with Gran-Selezione status combines in its typical way exemplary excellent structure with highest elegance. SUPERIORE.DE
"Sparkling, rich ruby with a light garnet edge. Cool, exciting nose, opened with pronounced spicy notes, lots of cloves, some cardamom, then full of blackberry and dark cherries. Round and extremely supple at the base and in the course, it blooms beautifully, opens with fine, elegant tannins, rich draught, lots of dark berry fruit, very long aftertaste". Falstaff
"The 2011 Chianti Classico Gran Selezione Vigneto La Casuccia is opulent and voluptuous with thick lines of dark fruit and spice that characterize the bouquet. More than heft and power, this wine delivers excellent complexity with layers of black truffle, grilled herb and cherry cola that add vertical lift." Wine Advocate
"A wine of pure femininity and grace, the 2011 Chianti Classico Gran Selezione Vigneto La Casuccia is wonderfully fleshy and radiant in the glass. Rose petal, sweet red cherry, tobacco, mint and spices meld together as this effortless, supple wine shows off its undeniably appealing personality. Sweet, silky tannins wrap around a super-expressive finish laced with knock-out aromatics. The 2011 is firing on all cylinders today." Antonio Galloni
"Rich and modern, pure and expressive, with violet, black currant, cherry and spice flavors that ride the racy profile and dense tannic structure to a long, lingering aftertaste of fruit and spice." Wine Spectator
"Amazing aromas of crushed dark fruits with raspberry, blueberry and blackberry. Dried flowers and violets too, plus tanned leather. Full body, ultra-fine yet dense tannins and a finish that lasts for minutes. Stunning texture. One of the greatest Chianti Classicos ever made." James Suckling

“Vigneto Bellavista” Chianti Classico Gran Selezione DOCG 2011 · MAGNUM in gift box
The 2011 edition of the Gran Selezione from the Bellavista vineyard is rich and dark with aromas of wild cherry, smoke, liquorice, menthol and tobacco. Extremely attractive and full-bodied on the palate, firm tannins form the backbone of this virile, potent wine. SUPERIORE.DE
"Full, dark ruby, light violet shimmer. Opened in the nose with fine spicy notes, to sandalwood, some vanilla, then full of plums. In the beginning much present fruit, opens with dense, hearty tannin, discreet earthy notes, in the finale long reverberation, fine and elegant." Falstaff
"The 2011 Chianti Classico Gran Selezione Vigneto Bellavista opens to dark concentration, bold intensity and an immediate delivery of ripe fruit flavors. Stylistically speaking, this single-vineyard Grand Selezione is extracted, muscular and extremely fruit forward. The heat of the 2011 vintage comes through loud and clear. Happily, the mouthfeel is tighter and more focused with dusty minerality on the tannins and long persistency." Wine Advocate
"Ama's 2011 Chianti Classico Gran Selezione Vigneto Bellavista shows the darker, more brooding style of Sangiovese at Ama. Graphite, smoke, tar, licorice, incense and cloves wrap around a core of dark fruit. A wine of gravitas and vertical structure, the 2011 will reward several decades of cellaring. This is an unusually stern wine for the vintage though. Readers will have to be patient to experience the Bellavista at its best. Still, I can't help notice how much the 2011 has grown in bottle over the last year." Antonio Galloni
"Rich and elegant, with black cherry, black currant, violet and boysenberry flavors allied to a sleek frame. Dense and weightless at once, with a lingering aftertaste of tobacco and tea. Presents a fine balance and aftertaste." Wine Spectator
"A fresh and layered red with blackberry, blueberry and mint character. Full body, firm tannins and a fresh finish. Minerally." James Suckling

Barolo Lazzarito DOCG 2012 · MAGNUM in OWC
Top-class, complex and modern Barolo from Serralunga: Elegant, complex bouquet of cherries and blueberries, the full-bodied taste is of considerable density and length, perfectly integrates the tannins. SUPERIORE.DE
"A rich ruby with a garnet shimmer. Presents itself in the nose with notes of liquorice, truffle and rosewood, then a lot of plum, in the background liquorice. On the palate it is striking, very substantial, deep, ripe fruit and earthy notes, opens with firm tannin in many layers, in the finish firm pressure, salty and long." Falstaff
"This Barolo offers the trademark power and integrity that is so distinctive of wines made in Serralunga d'Alba. The 2012 Barolo Lazzarito delivers muscle, brawn, and an endearing sense of confidence and determination. The is a lovely interpretation that opens to dark fruit aromas that are sharply framed by spice, tobacco, tilled earth and cooling menthol. The overall effect is generous, well-structured and full-bodied. This wine is poised to age over the next twenty years." Wine Advocate
"The 2012 Barolo Lazzarito impresses for its precision and class, two qualities that aren't easy to find in wines from this Serralunga site. Iron, smoke and white pepper lift from the glass in a vertical, structured Barolo endowed with real pedigree. A rush of pomegranate, red cherry jam, wild flowers and blood orange meld into the huge, bright finish. In 2012, the Lazzarito reconciles power and finesse like few vintages in the past. For the last few years, the Lazzarito has been knocking on the door of the big boys in this lineup, the Rocche and Ravera. Today, the Lazzarito makes a strong statement that it has arrived." Barolo Rocche di Castiglione DOCG 2012 · MAGNUM in OWC
Young and fresh, rich ruby garnet, complex, very aromatic bouquet, strong tannin, lots of fruit, fine melting, cleanly structured, harmoniously balanced, long finish. Store it as best you can and enjoy the anticipation! SUPERIORE.DE
"Velvety, rich ruby. Very present and fresh nose, full of plums, raspberries and cranberries, appealing. Very juicy at the base, opens with fine, dense tannin, beautiful enamel, spreads for a long time, firm pressure in the finale". Falstaff
"The 2012 Barolo Rocche di Castiglione is one of the bigger, richer wines in the lineup, which is a bit atypical. Readers should expect a huge, dramatic Rocche built on power, intensity and volume. At the same time, the Rocche is incredibly precise and layered. It is that very interplay of richness and finesse that makes the Rocche so alluring. Rose petal, mint and sweet red berries build to a crescendo of aromas, flavors and textures that takes over all the senses." Antonio Galloni

Barolo Rocche di Castiglione DOCG 2014 · MAGNUM in OWC
Barolo Rocche di Castiglione is probably the richest wine in Viettis vintage range. It is a monument based on performance, intensity and power. At the same time, Rocche is incredibly precise and multi-layered every year. It is precisely this interplay of fullness and finesse that makes the Rocche so tempting. Rose petals, mint and sweet red berries form a crescendo of aromas and textures that appeals to all the senses. In the almost endless reverberation, everything comes into harmony again as if by magic and leaves behind a Nebbiolo experience of the third kind. SUPERIORE.DE
"Plum and black cherry flavors are augmented by leather, underbrush and tobacco notes. Offers hints of chocolate and sweet spices, while the muscular structure keeps this under wraps. Delivers ample fruit and bright acidity, not to mention a lingering aftertaste. Turns silky and elegant with air." Wine Spectator
"Really shows what was possible in this difficult vintage! What a complex nose with hazelnuts, chocolate, flowers and herbs in profusion. Hints of licorice and candied citrus peel, too. Quite a major structure with bold, dry tannins, which are already very well-integrated. A really long finish." James Suckling
"This is a beautiful wine from a challenging vintage—Luca Currado tells me it reminds him of his father and his childhood. Indeed, the 2014 Barolo Rocche di Castiglione is a nostalgic wine with old-school Barolo aromas of wild berry, orange peel, hazelnuts and earthy truffle. The wine opens to a very attractive ruby color and dark garnet highlights. The mouthfeel is silky and smooth but extremely well structured at the same time. Some 150 magnums were made in this vintage because there is an expectation that this wine will age with grace and attitude." Wine Advocate
"Vietti's 2014 Barolo Rocche di Castiglione is shaping up to be a modern-day classic. Piercing, intense and austere in the best sense of the word, the Rocche is a wine of laser-like focus that will leave Barolo lovers weak in the knees. Candied cherry, pomegranate, kirsch, rose petal and violet overtones give the 2014 its inner sweetness and captivating perfume. In a word: stunning. Don't miss it." Antonio Galloni

“La Pieve” Chianti Classico Gran Selezione DOCG 2021 · 6 bottles in OWC
Here comes the new top Gran Selezione from San Felice: intense ruby red in colour, with broad and persistent aromas on the nose. Notes of violets and blackcurrants mingle with a sweet spiciness of tobacco and liquorice. Full-bodied, supple, well-structured wine, characterised by ripe and juicy tannins that harmonise with the acidic component. SUPERIORE.DE
"A concentrated red wine with intense flavours of cherry, raspberry, pomegranate, iron and wild herbs, which is also fluid, has light notes of new oak and ends with a salty finish." Wine Spectator
"The 2021 Gran Selezione La Pieve is a new wine in this range, replacing the Il Grigio Gran Selezione. It shows good energy and vigour, but is also still together in the bottle. Pomegranate, blood orange, spices and rose petals open up with a little persuasion. Clean mineral undertones prolong the finish. All it needs is time to develop better. It has a lot of potential." Vinous
"The 2021 Chianti Classico Gran Selezione La Pieve is a concentrated expression of Sangiovese with more pronounced oak tones of spice and sweet smoke. This lovely Tuscan red wine offers greater fruit richness and richness compared to the estate's Chianti Classico Borgo. This added intensity gives this wine the scope to be paired with grilled meats. The wine finishes with a sweetness that comes from both the oak and the ripeness of the fruit. This vintage offers remarkable balance and elegance." Wine Advocate
"This is a very attractive, quite elegant Chianti, polished and even on the palate. It offers notes of cherries, raspberries, orange peel, cured meat and toasted almonds. Medium to full-bodied with very fine, juicy and polished tannins." James Suckling

“Il Borro” Rosso Toscana IGT 2020 (BIO) · 6 bottles in OWC
The top wine from the winery of the same name presents itself in an exemplary manner and as a kind of reference for many other so-called Super Tuscans in the region. Deep ruby red in colour with light red reflections. Dark fruit, spices, herbs, some leather and a fine tarry note on the nose. The flavours then unfold powerfully and concentrated on the palate, yet it glides velvety with a wonderfully balanced acid-tannin ratio into a rich, well-proportioned and long finish. SUPERIORE.DE
"Bright ruby colour with purple nuances. Dark and spicy nose of pipe tobacco, ebony, dark plum, also slightly balsamic. Dense and soft on the palate with dark chocolate, plums and rosemary, powerful and even, long." Falstaff
"Although lush and concentrated, this red wine is also light on its feet. Flavours of plum, blackberry, boysenberry and fruitcake abound, accented by notes of iron and spice, with a hint of wild herbs. Firm tannins line the finish, which nevertheless displays a fine harmony and a long-lasting aftertaste." Wine Spectator
"The organic wine Il Borro 2020 is a powerful Bordeaux blend of Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon and Syrah. The wine shows a lot of oak, which is noticeable as roasted spices, coconut or buttered almonds. There is a distant note of dried dill, which disappears in the context of the big, ripe black fruit at the core. You get a lot of richness and fruit weight from a hot vintage." Wine Advocate
"Initially intensely spicy, with topsoil, graphite, leather, then fresh and floral with crushed sage and lavender, before wild cherry and wild strawberry emerge. On the palate, the black cherry notes are generous and bright, but with deep, brooding earth tones for contrast. The tannins are refined but tensile like good armour, and a warm but invigorating salinity runs through a long finish." Wine Enthusiast
"This is a round and quite juicy young wine with notes of blackberries, chocolate and grilled meat. Full and complex with very fine tannins that are well integrated and a bright finish. Lively on the finish." James Suckling

Brunello di Montalcino “Paesaggio Inatteso” DOCG 2016 · 6 bottles in gift box
The Paesaggio Inatteso selection comes from Camigliano's 3.5 hectare vineyard "La Magia", which has mineral and calcareous soils. Bright ruby red. Cherry, raspberry, spice and tobacco aromas on the nose, taut, precise and full of personality on the palate. The tannins are soft and well integrated, making it an opulent, powerful and long-lasting pleasure even when young. SUPERIORE.DE
"Dark ruby red. In the nose a slight hint of strawberry, then of ripe cherries and wild berries, shows nuances of pomegranate and dried rose petal. Juicy and clear on the palate, stretches out in many layers, beautiful red fruit, with persistence." Falstaff
"Plum and black cherry aromas and flavors highlight this dense, muscular red, accented by wild herb, iron and sanguine notes. Staying vibrant and long, this is balanced, with the quality of tannins in line with the southwestern sector of Montalcino." Wine Spectator
"The Camigliano 2016 Brunello di Montalcino Paesaggio Inatteso is a tiny production of just 2,600 bottles, all drawn from a two-hectare site with sandy limestone, located apart from the estate's core vineyard block, which the Ghezzi family holds in special regard. Indeed, the character of this wine is quite different from the classic 2016 Brunello. I don't get those heavier aromas of asphalt or charred earth here. This wine is much softer in approach with delicate and pure fruit. Cherry, plum and dried raspberry cede to light spice and tobacco. Paesaggio Inatteso means "unexpected landscape" in Italian, and this wine does stand apart from the others in the Camigliano portfolio." Wine Advocate
"Aromas of forest floor, eucalyptus, violet and coffee bean take shape in the glass. Full bodied and savory, the firm palate doles out mouthfuls of ripe black cherry, mature plum, licorice and baking spice alongside enveloping, fine-grained tannins, a great showing." Wine Enthusiast
"A rich, decadent red with black-cherry and flower aromas, as well as citrus and crushed stone. Some wet bark, too. It's full-bodied, yet reserved and toned with nicely crafted tannins that melt into the wine. Vivid acidity. A poised, polished red." James Suckling

Brunello di Montalcino “Vigna del Lago” DOCG 2018 · 6 bottles in OWC
In the past, the northern slope of Montalcino was not planted with vines, but was cultivated with cereals, olives and cherries. In this area influenced by the Apennines, the seasons are more pronounced, continental and the north wind significantly lowers the temperature in winter. It is therefore the coldest Brunello region at this time of year, but also the wettest. This northern slope is a gentle hill: a characteristic that is more reminiscent of the Crete Senesi area, right next door, than the two stiffer, steeper and warmer southern slopes of Montalcino.
Due to the climate and the origin of the soil, the grapes in this area of Montalcino are harvested last every year. Vigna del Lago is the vineyard that welcomes all visitors travelling from the north of Montalcino. It takes its name from the lake that surrounds it and which plays a fundamental role in the microclimate of the area; the soil is a constant alternation between clay and strips of very fine Galestro.
Brunello Vigna del Lago is a historic cru from the Val di Suga winery, it is an old-school Brunello, from the times before the arrival of barriques and technology. An authentic product that is enjoying increasing demand. Unlike the Poggio al Granchio, which is aged in new Liters French barriques, this wine matures in large 30- and 50-hectolitre Slavonian oak barrels.
It is a wine with a low alcohol content, light orange-ruby colour, with very fine and almost imperceptible tannins, with a floral nose of citrus notes, myrtle and fresh cherries. It is a Brunello of great richness and balance and also has a very pleasant lightness, well-contoured acidity and a salty, mineral finish. SUPERIORE.DE
"Cosy bouquet of flowers, herbs and black forest fruits; the attack is balanced, harmonious, with juice and suppleness right into the complex finish. convinces with its polish." Vinum
"A fragrant Brunello that convinces with small red and dark fruits and increasingly reveals floral notes with air. Amarena cherry, leather. On the palate, a fine melting style, polished, juicy, elegant, red berry spice and plum. Beautiful drinking flow that is already fun. It still has room for improvement." Weinwisser
"Almost a little developed, barrel-woody and tobacco-like aroma of predominantly black berries, some tar, ash, iodine and forest floor. Clear, straightforward, ripe, almost cool, predominantly red fruit, quite present, fine tannins, a certain acid bite, persistent on the palate, herbal and salty nuances, moderate barrel tones, again a little forest messenger, resinous traces, good depth, restrained power, elegant style, multi-layered, gains transparency and freshness with air, very good to long, firm, tart-juicy finish with fine spice." Wein-Plus
"Bright ruby red colour, radiant. Appealing, open nose of leather, rosehips, blood oranges, with fine precious wood and dark berry notes on the finish. Grippy, firm tannins on the palate, with plenty of juice and finesse" Falstaff
"Brilliant medium ruby red with orange-coloured reflections. Balsamic and with just a hint of sour cherry and a touch of spice, and with brooding concentration. A sense of richness on the palate with plenty of cherry fruit framed by delicious, chewy tannins. Lots of depth. Ripe now, but with the potential to age further." Jancis Robinson
"The Vigna del Lago surrounds the Val di Suga winery in the north-west of Montalcino. The gently sloping vineyard lies on clay soil at 280 metres above sea level. The wine is aged exclusively in large Slavonian oak barrels with a capacity of 30 to 40 hectolitres in order to preserve the wonderful purity of the sweet fruit. The 2018 is subtly perfumed and exudes delicate aromas of white flowers and oranges that emphasise the scent of red berries. Light and lively, it is initially more reminiscent of a Rosso di Montalcino, but a powdery texture and its persistent mineral core add complexity." Decanter
"Smooth and juicy, with flavours of cherry, plum, sage and leather. Light and lively, with fine tannins on the finish. Shows excellent balance and length." Wine Spectator
"The 2018 Brunello di Montalcino Vigna del Lago is perfumed, with crushed blackberries and plums accompanied by minty herbs and a hint of smoke. It is silky-smooth yet racy in style, with masses of tart wild berries accompanied by vibrant acidity. Violet and lavender tones resonate, while the Vigna del Lago finishes structured and slightly chewy with silty tannins and a hint of bitter cocoa that lingers." Vinous
"The nose blends the adventurous aromas of leather, stone and coffee with lighter notes of vanilla, cherries and bitter orange peel. On the palate, a current of blood orange bolsters the cherry element, while the vanilla sweetness pushes back against a swelling bitter undertone. Taut tannins march into a warm finish." “Vigneto Grospoli” Chianti Classico Gran Selezione DOCG 2018 (BIO) · 6 bottles in OWC
Grospoli comes from the vineyard of the same name on ancient terraces, cultivated in the archaic form of the Lamolian alberello. The sandy soils of the Chianti massif, the constant exposure to the wind and the pure light create the ideal conditions for a lyrical and enchanting wine.
Bright ruby red. Impressive bouquet of violets and iris overlapping with notes of small red and black berries, aromatic herbs and sweet spices. On the palate, powerful and of excellent structure, very stimulating also its freshness and spiciness, which spreads into the long finish. SUPERIORE.DE
"Charismatic bouquet of cherries, blossoms and leather; juicy on the palate, vivid acidity that also enlivens the final, notes of red berries on the finish that round off the performance. Shows elegance." Vinum
"Rich ruby red. In the nose first after butter biscuits, then after juicy heart cherries, reminiscent of spruce honey, in the reverberation after raspberries and dried rose petal. On the palate juicy, radiant, shows great nerve in the course, long and with pressure, currently still young, will settle down very well." Falstaff
"A thoroughly delicious Chianti Classico with plum, bark and light chocolate aromas and flavors. Medium-bodied with round, caressing tannins and a juicy finish. It’s all about softness." James Suckling
"This is a new submission from Lamole di Lamole, located in the mountains at the back of Greve in Chianti. The 2018 Chianti Classico Gran Selezione Vigna Grospoli is a certified organic Sangiovese that shows medium-rich density, lovely freshness and consistency. This single-vineyard expression reveals clarity and linearity with focused aromas of strawberry, ripe raspberry and crushed mineral tones." Wine Advocate
"From a vineyard of good altitude, on a soil characterised by Chianti massif elements, a pure Sangiovese with notes of black raspberry, then marjoram and carob hints. The mouthfeel is brackish-sapid, with officinal return and undergrowth touches, density and crispness." Luca Gardini

Brunello di Montalcino DOCG 2018 · MAGNUM in OWC
When the world-famous Oenologist Carlo Ferrini makes his own wine, you can't help but be excited. Here, he has succeeded in creating an interpretation of Sangiovese that brings all his experience from decades of working with this grape variety to the fore as if through a burning glass. The moderate use of wood through ageing in 700-litre tonneaux expresses the clarity and personality of the grape and the unique terroir (there are just 1.5 hectares of the best Brunello sites) in an archetypal way. A great harmony of dark cherries, black fruits, spices, leather and tobacco, ideally integrated tannins and great persistence will quickly make the few thousand bottles a sought-after collector's item. SUPERIORE.DE
"Bright, medium-dense ruby-garnet colour. Opens with notes of blood orange, fresh plum, black cherry, some rose petal in the background. Juicy and compact on the attack and on the palate, shows plenty of dense tannins, builds up in layers, dark cherry fruit, savoury pressure on the final." Falstaff
"Medium to deep ruby red colour. Closed nose with a hint of Moroccan leather. Rich, tangy cherry with a hint of oak and polished but firm tannins. Very seductive and with the typical signature of Ferrini - the eternal suave. Long, but not quite open yet, and the tannins still need to dissolve a little into the fruit. Shows real potential and promise and is not uninteresting." Jancis Robinson
"For Carlo Ferrini, who normally advises numerous wineries in Tuscany and beyond, 2018 was a classic year. His Brunello is one of the shooting stars. The wine opens elegantly and full of finesse with red and dark blue fruit as well as a wonderful black cherry flavour and floral nuances. Wonderfully juicy on the palate with a fresh fruit presence. Subtly interwoven with delicate hints and the noble cedar notes of the wooden barrel ageing. Very precise yet intense with good concentration for the vintage and extremely silky, grippy tannins." Weinwisser
"Notes of farmyard, caramel, wood, cedar and toast on the nose. Vibrant sweet strawberry and red berry fruit on the palate, a hint of spiciness, bitterness and a creamy feel from the tannins. I like the gentle saltiness - wet stone and salt gracing the palate, and the sweetness with acidity that keeps everything so buoyant and cheerful. An extremely elegant expression, smooth, balanced and complete." Decanter
"Flavours of black cherries, violets, lavender and orange peel follow through to a medium to full body with ultra-fine tannins that run the length of the wine. So focussed and radiant. Agile and weightless on the finish. Not the greatest Giodo, but beautiful and precise." James Suckling
"Tasted at the Giodo estate in one of the most remote and beautiful areas of the appellation, surrounded by forests and sweeping panoramas, the 2018 Brunello di Montalcino gives us a promising taste of what we can expect from this warm vintage. The wine offers ripe but delicate flavours of cassis and dark cherries with nuances of lilac, violets and crushed limestone. The tannins are present and well integrated. Carlo Ferrini's Brunello promises a long ageing period." Wine Advocate
"The nose brings an umami sanguinity, with notes of tar, petrol and soil, but undertones of black cherries and blackberries make those aromas invigorating rather than harsh. The fruit ripens on the palate, but a slow-developing, spiced earthiness works with deliberate tannins and latent acid to maintain propriety." Wine Enthusiast
"The great project of the Ferrini family from Sant'Angelo in Colle, a Brunello characterised by constant excellence. Intense on the nose, with aromas of cranberry, fresh pepper leaf and blood orange peel, with earthy notes. Spicy sip, fruity and citrusy finish." Luca Gardini

Barolo Mosconi DOCG 2018 · 3 bottles in OWC
Four years ago, Pio Boffa bought himself a "small" present for his 60th birthday. Not a new set of golf clubs, a picture hanging in the hall, a holiday for him and the family. No. Just a vineyard called Mosconi in Monforte d'Alba, a region of Piedmont where four generations of the Pio Cesare dynasty never gained a foothold. Originally, the grapes from the 10-hectare vineyard were to enhance the quality of his classic Barolo, but after the first barrel samples, it was unmistakably clear to Pio Boffa that this would be at least an equal - if stylistically different - counterpart to the hitherto undisputed flagship Ornato.
Mosconi is more light-footed than Ornato, with red rather than black fruits dominating the nose, along with irresistible liquorice and a juiciness that will immediately earn it a top place in the entire appellation. On the palate, it has a precision that is unparalleled, less punchy than Ornato, but more elegant and subtle. SUPERIORE.DE
"Another transparent ruby red with garnet reflections. Exciting bouquet with distinct notes of blood oranges and candied orange peel, plus finest Dominican tobacco and leather, dazzling and individual. Elegant palate with fresh, cherry-influenced fruit, grippy, punchy, finely chiselled style with silky firm tannin, plus salty mineral nuances in the long finish." Weinwisser
"Bright ruby garnet with brightening rim. Very inviting and clear nose of sweet wild raspberries, cherry and rose petals, some cardamom in the background. Gripping, gripping tannin, shows discreet earthy notes, after truffle and tobacco, very grippy on the final, salty, needs a few more years." Falstaff
"Medium ruby red with orange reflections. Almost explosive minerality on the nose with a hint of sour cherry and a hint of spicy oak. Complex but still restrained on the nose. Wonderfully supple fruit with polished, finely honed but firm tannins almost a little reminiscent of Serralunga. Plenty of stuff to chew on and spectacular, layered flavours on the finish." Jancis Robinson
"Rich, with plum and cherry aromas, this Barolo also shows a spicy side of eucalyptus, liquorice and clove. Shows viscosity in texture as well as excellent balance. It finishes with dense, refined tannins and lingering notes of macerated fruit and savory." Wine Spectator
"The 2018 Barolo Mosconi is magnificent. It offers a complex blend of rose petals, dried herbs, iron, graphite, smoke, incense, scorched earth and blood orange, capturing all the complexity that makes the best Barolos from this site so compelling. Powerful and profound, but also very elegant, the 2018 is another fine Barolo from a winery that has made a pretty significant stylistic shift in recent years." Vinous
"Very compact on the nose and palate, with notes of dried red berries, truffle, sous-bois and dried flowers. Full-bodied with a fine tannin structure and a very long finish. Compact and solid. This wine still needs a lot of time to open up, but already shows real class. Try it from 2025." James Suckling
"Compared to the Ornato, the 2018 Barolo Mosconi (with fruit from Monforte d'Alba) shows a tighter and more compact quality with a direct, linear and powerful approach. The bouquet builds vertical intensity, starting with tart fruit aromas and culminating in tar, rusty nails and camphor ash. This aromatic ascent is swift and the wine finishes with a very broad, all-encompassing performance." Wine Advocate
"From soils with a combination of silt, clay and, to a small extent, sandstone, a perfect photo of the terroir of Monforte. Cornel on the nose, with notes of pink grapefruit and clove, mouth with iodine-spicy tannins, crispness and tension, nice persistence." Luca Gardini

Barolo La Serra DOCG 2015
La Serra 2015 comes from a fairly warm year and here the advantage of the slightly higher and cooler location is clearly evident. As always, the flavours are bright and floral, with a good underpinning of chalky, mineral tones, with remarkable polish and class. Dark red stone fruits, flowers, spices and leather are supported by the characteristic firm tannins, lovely depth in the mid palate and overall a great volume that makes it seem complete and perfect. A great wine and one of the best Barolo of the 2015 vintage. SUPERIORE.DE
"This is an exotic and opulent La Serra with ripe-fruit, orange-peel and terracotta aromas, as well as dust. Full body, polished yet chewy tannins and an extremely rich and long finish. Astonishing power and richness. Austerity with class. Reminds me of the perfect 1997." James Suckling

“Luce” Brunello di Montalcino DOCG 2019 · MAGNUM in OWC
Luce Brunello has been one of the icons in the large portfolio of Frescobaldi wines from Tuscany for years. The 2019 edition opens with great power and determination with ripe fruit flavours of blackberries and candied cherries. On the palate, it is medium-bodied and very harmonious thanks to the bright acidity and the overall quality of the primary fruit flavours of this excellent vintage. The tannins are well woven into the full-bodied density of the wine. Be sure to aerate or, better still, leave to mature for a few years in the cellar. SUPERIORE.DE
"Multi-layered aromas of ripe red fruits, spices, undergrowth and lilac; round, dense and with verve on the palate, racy tannins, combines juice and mineral character, fine tartness on the final. A successful blend of elegant juiciness and full-bodied substance." Weinwisser
"Rich, sparkling ruby colour with a fine garnet sheen. Memorable nose with lots of fleshy plum and blackberry fruit, plus rose petals and tobacco spice. Rich and juicy in the attack and on the palate, shows wonderfully integrated tannins, opens up in many layers, with a delicate minty final." Falstaff
"Medium to deep ruby red with a light, brick-coloured rim. Complex, spicy-minty oak with firm cherry fruit underneath. Lots of youthful, tangy cherry fruit with a deep layer of chewy tannins. Very complete and beautiful." Jancis Robinson
"The Tenuta Luce 2019 Brunello di Montalcino has a good amount of oak spice with campfire ash, forest floor, dried cherry, cassis, rye bread and something floral like hydrangea or pressed roses. There is also a balsamic note with sambuca or aniseed. It is a medium to full-bodied Brunello with flavours of dried fruit and a considerable alcohol content of 15% on the long finish." Wine Advocate
"This ripe and opulent red wine is packed with flavours of black cherries, blackberries and plums and captures your attention from the first sip. Vibrant and solidly built, with notes of wild thyme, earth and sweet spices, it shows excellent balance and length and remains fresh and juicy on the finish." Wine Spectator
"Another intense year for the Brunello from Tenuta Luce. Elegance and spiciness on the nose, with notes of cranberry, peony and a hint of chinotto, with a hint of cinnamon on the finish. Salty on the palate, with hints of blueberries and floral notes." Luca Gardini
"Black cherries and blueberries with undertones of walnut and lavender. Medium-bodied with very fine tannins that run the length of the wine and caress every inch of the palate. Fresh and lively. A wine for the cellar, but already fantastic to savour now." James Suckling

Amarone della Valpolicella Classico DOCG 2017
A masterpiece of depth, tradition and elegance! This Amarone matures for around six years in the barrel before it sees the light of day in the bottle. The archetype of the Venetian royal wine presents itself as multi-layered and dense and of a masterly complexity. On the nose, dried fruit, dates, nuts, earthy notes and the fine flavours of dried sultanas. On the palate, this infinite depth is paired with an elegance and finesse that only the Quintarelli family can master. A red wine from a better world, where you want to linger longer! SUPERIORE.DE
"Complex aromas of cigar box, incense, black cherry fruit and bay leaves with balsamic notes. The palate is creamy, off-dry and velvety, with a full body and long, refreshing acidity. There is a lot of sucrosity and spices. A generous wine with a lush, well-balanced palate." James Suckling
"The Amarone della Valpolicella Classico 2017 is an absolute seductress and a dark beauty. It opens with a dusty bouquet of dried flowers and masses of cherry sauce, underscored by spiced oranges and hints of violet pastille. The palate is a model of purity, with crisp wild berries enlivened by tantalising acidity and a hint of dark chocolate. Crisp mineral notes emerge towards the finish. The 2017 lingers for an incredibly long time and remains completely fresh. The grippy tannins remain, while notes of dried blueberries and lavender linger throughout. The Quintarelli estate has worked hard to perfect a style that combines the magic of older vintages with a new level of freshness, and the 2017 is a big step in the right direction. Bravo." Vinous

Limitation of 2 articles per customerBrunello di Montalcino “Madonna delle Grazie” DOCG 2018
Tasting the different lots of Il Marroneto from the barrel is a fascinating task. The vines are all similarly situated at high altitude, on coarse sand of marine origin, and predominantly north-facing. While they have subtle differences, the distinct character of Madonna delle Grazie often merits a separate bottling - as the 2018 proves. The aromas take on the darkest, most heady purple florals, tangled in allspice and smoky incense. The wine is muscular with firm tannins that grip it tightly and don't let go, though it is never beefy, heavy or angular. At the moment it is still developing, but the finish already reveals a refined balsamic core and a spicy, salted plum. SUPERIORE.DE
"Wonderfully clear-cut and multi-faceted on the nose, noble appearance, shows a lot of herbaceous-floral spice, white pepper, rose and violet blossoms, but also sour cherry and wild berries, behind it a dazzling peppery-spicy backdrop reminiscent of exotic spices. On the palate, enormously complex and finesse-rich with delicate, crisp fruit, carried by finely meshed tannin and a fantastically integrated acidity, wonderfully animating with beautiful spiciness and spice on the final. Once again belongs to the absolute top wines of the vintage." Weinwisser
"Sparkling, fine ruby red with a light rim. Extremely clear nose of ripe, dark cherries, rose petals and cloves, with some smoky notes in the background. On the palate, lots of sweet fruit, finely meshed tannin that is integrated into lots of melting, pithy and with firm pressure on the final." Falstaff
"Shiny, deep ruby red. A little closed, but with great purity of fruit on the nose. Waves of concentrated, intense fruit on the palate. Supple, elegant and generous at the same time, it shows true cru quality. Fantastic tannins accompanying the fruit on the finish. A classic. Can be drunk now, but will continue to develop for some time." Jancis Robinson
"This wine has an array of red and dark fruits with coffee, dark chocolate, sweet spices and upturned earth. Medium to full-bodied with fine tannins and a distinct dark berry character on the palate. A little dense and textured, with a firm and long finish that leaves notes of nutshells and crushed stones. Taste after 2025." James Suckling
"The single vineyard bottling of Il Marroneto is a selection of small, loose grapes, which manifests itself in the density of the fruit and the secure structure. Next to the winery's "classic" Brunello, it often shows a more earthy, autumnal face. The 2018 corresponds with scents of chestnut and undergrowth that combine with the fruity sweetness of the vintage. Long, suede-like layers of tannin envelop the fleshy black cherry. As the wine progresses, subtle traces of pepper, leather and incense emerge, suggesting more to come. Above all, Madonna delle Grazie embodies the most positive qualities of the vintage as it flows with agility and grace." Decanter
"The 2018 Brunello di Montalcino Madonna delle Grazie takes time to open up in the glass. It is complex and seductive with its musky redcurrants and savoury spices, but also with a hint of roses. A hint of sweet smoke emerges and contrasts beautifully. Its textures are like liquid velvet, with a chalky mineral tinge that comes on quickly and is perfectly balanced by a massive wave of dark red berries; yet the balance is expertly maintained by a streamlined acidity that creates a sense of total internal harmony. The 2018 leaves a structured impression, yet its tannins are silky and fine, coupled with a finish of violet pastille and lavender that I find very attractive. Remarkably, I have tasted this wine for the past two years and have accompanied this current bottle for 48 hours, never faltering and only increasing in depth and complexity. Il Marroneto's 2018 Madonna delle Grazie is undoubtedly one of the three best wines of the vintage. I take my hat off to Alessandro Mori and his team." Vinous
"The Il Marroneto 2018 Brunello di Montalcino Madonna delle Grazie shows elegance and power in one go. The fruit quality is crisp and tangy, but the wine supports a medium-heavy concentration and a more elaborate style. This vintage of Il Marroneto has two personalities. On the one hand, you get a wine with beautiful primary fruit but a little more immediate, and on the other, a wine that promises good ageing thanks to its freshness and silky tannins that melt on the palate. It is young, but also mature. It is racy, but also complex." Wine Advocate
"Alessandro Mori's Brunello is more of a historical legacy than a vineyard. On the nose, notes of blackcurrant jam, with nuances of bay leaf and white pepper. The mouthfeel is dense and savoury, with a return of fruit and sweet spices. Persistent." Luca Gardini

Wonderfully dense red. First ripe currants and cherries, then fine spices and menthol nuances. Intense and full-bodied on the palate. The fine-meshed tannins are rounded off again by the oak wood storage. SUPERIORE.DE
"Here is a high performance wine from Stefano Frascolla and his family. The 2015 Giusto di Notri is mostly Cabernet Sauvignon with smaller parts Cabernet Franc and Merlot. The wine is contemporary, complex and gorgeous from tip to toe. You get a lot of power here and generous oak-driven tones of sweet espresso, chocolate and spice that surround a succulent core of dark fruit and candied cherry. All these elements appear even bigger and bolder in this warm vintage." Wine Advocate
"This is dense and structured with beautifully polished tannins and plenty of currant and blackberry character. Full body and chewy tannins yet refined and juicy. Lots of Mediterranean herbs with the dark fruit. Blend of mostly cabernet sauvignon with merlot and cabernet franc. Pretty barrel sample. This is coming along very nicely." James Suckling
"Black cherry, creme de cassis, smoke, plum, new leather, spice, French oak and dark spice notes infuse the 2015 Giusto di Notri. Plush, succulent and totally flamboyant, the Giusto di Notri is another wine that captures the natural exuberance of Suvereto. All the elements simply fall into place. Readers should expect a rich, bold Tuscan red." Antonio Galloni

Barolo Prapò DOCG 2019 (BIO) · MAGNUM in OWC
Barolo Prapò comes from Serralunga d'Alba and is, as expected, the most powerful and structured of the various single-vineyard wines from this ambitious estate. At the same time, it is also the most closed at the beginning and, with its introverted nature, is made for a long ageing period. This site is one of the last where the grapes ripen, giving them plenty of time to develop slowly and carefully each year.
Bright, medium ruby-garnet colour. A potpourri of floral and spicy notes on the nose, plus some peach and strawberry. Very firm on the palate with initially sinewy Serralunga tannins and notes of iron, savoury, menthol, liquorice, lavender, preserved dark cherries and dried blackberries. With further aeration, an inspiring round and full mouthfeel emerges with such precise Nebbiolo stylistics that it is a joy to drink. Patience is required for this exceptional Barolo, which is guaranteed to be rewarded after a few more years of ageing in the bottle! SUPERIORE.DE
"Broad and dense, with plenty of power driving the cherry, raspberry, iron, stone and underbrush flavors. A bit closed at this stage, with the wall of stiff tannins leaving a strong grip on the finish." Wine Spectator
"The nose of this Prapò is very graceful - violets, cinnamon, almost sage and blood orange - and expresses all the elegance of Cerretta, to which this MGA is very similar. Refreshing and velvety, almost supple, it is a precise Barolo full of elegance despite a certain warmth in the dusty, fierce finish." Decanter
"Soft and velvety, but very fine texture with a medium to full body. Open and juicy with strawberry and cherry character, as well as potpourri and sandalwood. Also roses. Best after 2026, but already very attractive and flattering on the palate." James Suckling
"Cru di Serralunga", a refined refinement that produces a very crisp fruit. Wild plum on the nose, then sage, toasted notes and floral nuances, gerbera. Spicy on the palate, with fruity hints and notes of medicinal herbs. Closes with spicy notes." Luca Gardini
"The Barolo Prapò 2019 is probably the finest Prapò I have ever tasted from Ceretto. Dark cherry, plum, lavender, rose petals, menthol, liquorice and spice are amplified in this broad, explosive Barolo. An enormous kick of Serralunga acidity and tannin emphasises the finish." Vinous
"Intense ruby colour with a light garnet rim. Hints of black tea, some truffle, then lots of raspberry. Full-bodied and dense on the palate, shows plenty of present tannin, is very well integrated, flavours of plums and raspberries, fine melting in the final." Falstaff
"With aromas of dark cherries, preserved raspberries, cloves and dried roses, this wine floats from the glass with grace and class. The palate is firm and well-structured, with solid tannins and an energetic acidity that lifts the notes of mixed wild berries, tobacco and tea, finishing with a chalky minerality." Wine Enthusiast
"The organic Ceretto 2019 Barolo Prapò, whose fruit comes from Serralunga d'Alba, is a natural addition to a portfolio of wines representing some of the best cru sites in the appellation. This wine shows the particular power and fruit concentration that this site is known for, and also a nice touch of sweetness with dried cherries and raspberries softening the mineral tones and ferrous flavours. This wine manages the balancing act between power and elegance - no easy feat." Wine Advocate

“Sassicaia” Bolgheri Sassicaia DOC 2020
Sassicaia 2020 is in one word: magical. Even at a young age, it displays an aromatic richness and intensity that delights us. The optimal climate has favoured its very Mediterranean character, resulting in a fresh and very direct wine that delights all the senses. Everything is in its place here and the omnipresent fruit is given an extra place on the podium in this vintage. SUPERIORE.DE
"Medium purple colour, the bottom of the glass is clearly visible. Intense nose with a hint of iodine. Great spiciness that seems more Tuscan than Bordeaux. Long-lasting and with a very long finish. Embryonic, but convincing that it has a good future ahead of it. Subtle rather than flashy. I wouldn't guess it's 14%. I aerated it and left it in a young wine decanter for an hour and it was a delight. It has more appeal than many previous vintages." Jancis Robinson
"The 2020 Sassicaia is a real beauty and shows great purity, elegance and silkiness. On the nose, it is a very typical, noble Sassicaia with the typical liaison of Cabernet and Mediterranean spice, reminiscent of the neighbouring maquis forest. There are lavender notes, but also Mediterranean herbs such as sage, myrrh and rosemary, refined with dark cherries, cassis, wild berries, graphite, tobacco and earth. Noble restraint on the palate too, the fine fruit presence is majestically underpinned by earthy and herbal-spicy notes, with a touch of olive tapenade also resonating. In spite of the present fruit, it is fresh thanks to its penetrating acidity, with a silky texture and an elegantly grippy tannin structure. It is a seductive temptation to drink it young, but it will benefit from a few years of ageing. Patience will be rewarded with more complexity." Weinwisser
"The Tenuta San Guido 2020 Bolgheri Sassicaia will appeal to those seeking a more voluptuous, opulent and ultimately more approachable wine. This vintage is a precise reflection of coastal Tuscany, as opposed to a more generic "Tuscan" wine from other parts of this great central Italian region. You can taste the ripeness and soft fruit weight that comes from a coastal appellation with particularly bright light and warm Mediterranean breezes. Sassicaia from the cooler vintages is known to be a restrained wine in its early years, requiring a long lead time before it fits into an ideal drinking window. This is definitely not the case here. This wine is beautiful and compelling from the start. It shows a lovely blend of dark fruits, oak spice, balanced freshness, rich texture, soft tannins and a skilfully controlled alcohol level of 14%. The immediate character of the wine is what characterises this vintage and I wouldn't get too carried away with over-ambitious cellaring. The wine is a pure pleasure in its current form, with an overwhelming primary fruit and a high intensity in the near and medium term." Wine Advocate
"A very fragrant Sassicaia on the nose with forest floor, citrus and dark fruits. Blackcurrants. Cedar wood and black tea. Some balsamic vinegar. Pine needles. Full and very juicy. Very long, structured and complete. Spicy and energetic with a linear line of fresh tannins and acidity. Very Sassicaia throughout. 85% Cabernet Sauvignon and the rest Cabernet Franc. Very attractive now in a youthful and lively way, but this will be better in three to four years. Try it after 2027." James Suckling
"The Sassicaia 2020 is a bold, rapturous wine. Dark, fleshy and expansive on the palate, the 2020 offers flavours of blackberry jam, gravel, spices, new leather, liquorice and crème de cassis. The powerful tannins are almost masked by the sheer intensity of the fruit. The 2020 seems to have an extra dimension of textural intensity. An intensity that is very appealing." Vinous
"Complex aromas and flavours of blackcurrants, blackberries, iron, sweet tobacco and Mediterranean herbs are the hallmarks of this elegant, exciting red wine, which already reveals a lot, but still appears restrained, as if there are still many facets to discover. It is characterised by harmony, freshness and a long finish." Wine Spectator
"The frost damaged the earlier developing Cabernet Franc at the end of March, resulting in lower production but excellent quality fruit. The spring was mild and the summer generally warm, but a rapid acceleration of ripening in late summer forced the team to start harvesting in the first week of September to avoid over-ripening. This traditional blend of 85% Cabernet Sauvignon and 15% Cabernet Franc is characterised by an intense and balsamic taste that highlights the character of blackcurrant, dust, leaves and cedar. It is balanced and light-footed, with super-fresh acidity and a fine-grained, almost imperceptible tannin structure. Ripe and tangy raspberry and blueberry fruit linger on the mid-palate, leading to a long, fresh finish with notes of cream and chocolate. This wine will be worth cellaring into the 2050s, but it will also give great pleasure in its youth. We recommend keeping it in the bottle for at least 10 months before opening it," says Priscilla Incisa della Rocchetta." Decanter
"An increasingly promising bouquet - after aeration - of forest fruits, with a subtle hint of Mediterranean scrub and truffles; perfectly chiselled texture with youthful, tight-knit tannins, the acidity provides that certain something extra, plenty of fruit but also spice on the lingering, multi-faceted finish. Timelessly elegant." Vinum
"Ruby red colour, compact and brilliant. The nose has clear notes of blackberries, with slightly wild notes of marjoram, floral nuances of peony and an iodine-balsamic finish. In the mouth, crunchy red fruits, tannins that combine well with the fresh-salty component, balsamic and liquorice on the finish, excellent drinkability. A wine that will last a long time." Barolo Castiglione 2018 is bright, fresh and clearly defined. Crushed red berry fruit, white pepper, chalk, mint and rose petals run through this beautifully shaped Barolo. The purity of the fruit and overall energy are captivating. Castiglione is Vietti's entry-level Barolo and is always the most approachable in the bottle range, but this vintage shows a higher level of intensity, complexity and freshness. The silky tannins are accompanied by a lovely mentholated brightness into a beautiful finish. A very down-to-earth drop that unmistakably shows off its charm. SUPERIORE.DE
"Bright, sparkling ruby red with a shimmering core. Smells noble and fine on the nose of mint, raspberry, dried orange, fine floral components in the reverberation. Compact, juicy on the palate, comes along with gripping tannin, still needs time." Falstaff
"Plenty of wild-berry character to the nose and palate. Medium-bodied with good fruit focus and firm tannin that will need a year or two to soften. Bright and youthful. Give it time. Best from 2024." James Suckling
"The 2018 Barolo Castiglione is bright, fresh and delineated. Crushed red berry fruit, white pepper, chalk, mint and rose petal all run through this gorgeous, sculpted Barolo. The purity of the fruit and overall energy here are captivating. I would cellar the 2018 for at least a few years. It's a gorgeous wine in the making." Vinous
"Vietti has the enormous advantage of 10 MGA sites at its disposition for blending purposes. This allows them to select the fruit they want to best express any one vintage. The 2018 Barolo Castiglione draws upon those 10 sites (including the recent additions of Mosconi, Ginestra, Bricco Ravera and Briccolina) to make what is ultimately its best-selling wine. This classic rendition is tonic and clean with varietal tones of wild berry, rose and rusty nail." Wine Advocate
"The classic Barolo by Vietti, from a selection of grapes chosen amongst different vineyards in Barolo area, mainly from Villero and Ravera crus (Castiglione Falletto and Novello municipalities), specifically for 2018 vintage. Calcareous-clay soils. Sour cherry on the nose, notes of star anise and wild rose, with a finish to the notes of undergrowth. Sip with fine and iodine tannins, nice persistence and fruity-floral return." Luca Gardini
