It is only since the early 1980s that Chardonnay has been vinified as a single-varietal wine in South Tyrol. The pioneer was the St. Michael-Eppan winery, which experienced a tremendous upswing at that time. The grapes come from the Ginestra, Mosconi and San Pietro cru sites, with around 10 rows planted outside the appellation boundaries (this is why the wine is a Langhe Dolcetto and not a Dolcetto d'Alba).
