“Campirosa” Cerasuolo d’Abruzzo DOC 2023
Campirosa Cerasuolo only gradually unfolds its fresh strawberry and cherry flavours, which are adorned with sweet flowers. The palate is silky-soft and very convincing with its ripe red fruits and juicy acidity. A hint of liquorice, exotic spices and nuanced tannins emerge on the finish and seem to linger for almost a minute. Campirosa is already a charming favourite when young, but can also mature for another year in the cellar. SUPERIORE.DE

“Riparosso” Montepulciano d’Abruzzo DOC 2022
Illuminati's Montepulciano d'Abruzzo Riparosso has a sweet scent of violets and lavender, followed by crushed blackberries and chalk dust. It washes over the palate with soft textures and ripe wild berries, contrasted towards the end by sour citrus fruits. It finishes perfumed and with admirable length, leaving a layer of dusty tannins that tug at the cheeks. Very Italian - very well made. SUPERIORE.DE
"The 2022 Montepulciano d'Abruzzo Riparosso opens with a dark floral blend of wilted violets and lavender that fades into crushed blackberries and sage. It is soft and round with a silky texture and an abundance of ripe red and black fruits. A salty minerality adds tension to the 2022's finish with medium length and soft tannins." Vinous
"Plum, cherry jam, aniseed and sweet spice on the nose. It’s full-bodied with powdery tannins and cinnamon-like spice notes to close. Tangy, too." James Suckling

Straw yellow in colour, with a fine, rich aroma of ripe fruit and white flowers, reminiscent of meadow herbs and citrus fruits. Slightly spicy flavour, full-bodied and beautifully persistent. Good balance between structure and softness. SUPERIORE.DE
"A gorgeous nose of citrus blossom and green candied apple provides the perfect frame for a palate that starts with the same notes and then becomes grassy and salty, while the acidity tingles in the mouth." Wine Enthusiast
"A salty and delicious pecorino with notes of dried lemons, spiced apples and warm herbs. It’s medium-bodied with a seductive and tactile feel on the palate. Well driven and succulent with a savory and salty finish." James Suckling

Deep red colour, fascinating complex aroma spectrum on the nose. Dominated by the ripe berry scent, with hints of plums and tobacco. Powerful and intense on the palate, rich in extract, with juicy soft tannins. SUPERIORE.DE
"The 2020 Montepulciano d'Abruzzo Ilico opens with a burst of crushed blackberries, underbrush and ashen stone. It's silky-smooth with polished red fruits that form beneath an air of inner violet florals. “Zanna” Montepulciano d’Abruzzo Riserva Colline Teramane DOCG 2018
Deep, dark ruby red colour. Full, deep and explosive bouquet reminiscent of dark berries, tobacco and liquorice. Illuminati's single-vineyard classic Zanna, with its elegant, very complex flavour and delicate oak spice, leaves nothing to be desired every year. SUPERIORE.DE
"The 2018 Colline Teramane Montepulciano d'Abruzzo Riserva Zanna is quite backward today, dark and brooding. Exotic spice and black currants form its understated bouquet. This is a more lifted and fresh style for Zanna, with round, supple textures and ripe citrus-tinged black fruits. Edgy tannins linger through the mentholated finale as hints of spiced cherry fade slowly." Vinous

“Pieluni” Montepulciano d’Abruzzo Riserva Colline Teramane DOCG 2017
True to the style of the house, the Riserva Pieluni has an excellent structure. Spicy, interwoven fruit aromas, underpinned by a fine hint of vanilla, intensify in the strikingly deep and long taste. The dense, pleasant tannin underlines the elegance of the top product of Illuminati from the Colline Teramane, probably Abruzzo's best denomination for Montepulciano. SUPERIORE.DE

“Zanna” Montepulciano d’Abruzzo Riserva Colline Teramane DOCG 2017 · MAGNUM in gift box
Deep dark ruby red. Full, deep and explosive bouquet reminiscent of dark berries, tobacco and liquorice. Illuminati's single-vineyard classic Zanna, with its elegant, very complex taste and delicate oak spice, leaves nothing to be desired every year. SUPERIORE.DE
"The 2017 Montepulciano d'Abruzzo Riserva Zanna, with its dark purple hue, slowly comes to life in the glass. A blend of blackberries and currants is complemented by nuances of mint, chalk dust and exotic spices. The palate is washed by mineral red berries and mentholated herbal notes that unfold towards the end. A layer of fine-grained tannins saturates the palate and gives it a youthful structure, supported by a touch of residual acidity that maintains balance. Give it another year of ageing for best effect." Vinous
"Rich red and black berries with notes of shellfish, dried herbs and a hint of balsamic. Medium to full body with a relaxed palate where the firm, fine and polished tannins bring out a drier aspect of the fruit. This wine needs another year to come together better. Try it from 2023." James Suckling
"This balanced, polished red wine displays rich aromas of red cherries dipped in alcohol with accents of menthol and tobacco. The palate is soft and supple, with a perky cherry flavour wrapped in dewy herbs and cigar box accents. Gentle tannins and bright acidity give this red wine a coherent texture." Wine Enthusiast
"With a dark appearance and the bold concentration of a hot vintage, the Illuminati 2017 Montepulciano d'Abruzzo Colline Teramane Riserva Zanna plays up its dense flavors of black fruit, spice and sweet earth. The bouquet is very generous, and this large-scale approach gives this wine plenty of latitude for grilled meat dishes." Wine Advocate

When the winery was first called Fattoria Nico, named after the founder Nicola Illuminati, the wine, initially produced in small quantities, was still bottled in glass balloons. Since the 1970s, the Abruzzi estate, which dates back to the late 19th century and has long been known under the name Dino Illuminati, has undergone major quality upsurges. Today the wines are sought after all over the world. Every year, six out of ten bottles are exported to five continents. The family winery is situated between the sea and the mountains, almost on the border with the Marches, in the municipality of Controguerra in the DOCG Colline Teramane. The owner and eponym of the company, which is now in its fourth generation, is the winemaker Dino Illuminati, who is well over 80 years old and still determines the course of the estate today. 'Cavaliere del Lavoro' known. The grandson of the founder was decisively responsible for the development of the region of origin. Today Dino is supported by his wife Marina and his son Stefano, but also by his siblings Lorenzo and Anna.
The area around Controguerra is one of the most productive wine-growing zones in Abruzzo. The area used in the Azienda Agricola Dino Illuminati for the cultivation of red and white grapes has increased almost ninefold over the years from 15 hectares in the beginning to the present day. The grey eminence of the Colline Teramane is gladly quoted with the words: "I chose the wine and forgot everything else. But I've never regretted it." The estate manager, who is far from being an old hand, has the most modern technology at his disposal for the vinification of his noble wines. The traditional and in their way unique high-quality wines age in barriques and Slavonian oak barrels.
The seventeen wines prepared in the cellar - red, white and rosé - are wines with a strong character and often very terroir-specific. One of the three flagships is - besides Pieluni and Lumen - the Zanna, a classic Montepulciano of this Abruzzo cultivation zone. The noble wine, which has often been ennobled with a set of three glasses by the wine guideGambero Rosso, is not only able to easily compete with competing products due to its complexity, fullness and personality strength, but is also probably the best Colline Teramane ever. The grapes used for this noble plant come from a vineyard that is more than 45 years old and has a great Abruzzo pergola education. Dino named his wine Pieluni after his three grandchildren Pierpaolo, Ludovica and Nicola. The red wines of the house Illuminati are almost exclusively made from Montepulciano d'Abruzzo. SUPERIORE.DE
"You write Controguerra and read Colline Teramane. And here in this winery the adventure of the Colline Teramane began for this wonderful region of Abruzzo."Gambero Rosso
