“Roccaleoni” Falanghina Campania IGP 2023
Fresh Falanghina from the heart of Sannio Benevento. Light yellow in colour with fruity and floral notes of pineapple, banana, peach, a hint of pink broom and sage. Balanced on the palate with an admirable length and concentration of citrus fruit. Very nice as an aperitif and with light dishes. SUPERIORE.DE
"Pleasantly fresh fruit bouquet, citrus fruit and elderflower; compact on the palate, vivid acidity, elegant finish, mineral and tart. A successful interpretation of the grape variety." Vinum
"The 2023 Falanghina Rocca dei Leoni opens with a fragrant blend of dried herbs and spices that fade into lemon peel and mint notes. It has a soft texture, juicy acidity and notes of green melon, which are emphasised by a hint of minerality towards the end. The 2023 finishes spicy and medium-bodied, with a hint of ginger that pleasantly emphasises the experience." Vinous
"A bright and refreshing white that has notes of lemon peel and white flowers on the nose, as well as crushed stones and sliced pears. It’s medium-bodied, saline and mineral. Drink now." James Suckling

Rosso Falerno del Massico DOP 2019
Rosso Falerno del Massico presents itself with an intense aroma of black raspberries, cloves, rosemary and a hint of camphor. It fills the palate with soft, fleshy textures and ripe red berries, contrasted by salty-mineral tones and nuanced tannins. The finish is long and lightly textured, with a hint of violet-coloured floral notes. This is yet another fine vintage of Villa Matilde's Falerno del Massico Rosso, made mainly from Aglianico with a small proportion of Piedirosso. SUPERIORE.DE

“Fusonero” Taurasi DOCG 2015
The new Fusonero is a delight all along the line: in the bouquet fresh rose scent, spices, red berries, mint and liquorice. The palate is dominated by light, soft aromas, while the wilder, impetuous side of the Aglianico grape is elegantly restrained. It is a particularly silky, fragrant Taurasi, immediate, attractive - and with great depth and potential. SUPERIORE.DE

Severus, fortis, ardens: With these qualities (in English: serious, energetic and fervent) the ancient Falerner, the most famous wine of classical literature, was provided in Latin. The Villa Matilde continues the ancient tradition of the wine that disappeared at the beginning of the last century, not only since the seventies with a modern Falerno, but produces from the mountain area Alto Casertano via Sannio around the provincial town of Benevento to Irpinien many other noble wines of outstanding quality. The Campanian winery in Cellole was founded in the sixties by Francesco Paolo Avallone, a lawyer and lover of antique wines inspired by poets such as Vergil and Horaz. The winery is not only one of the pioneers, but also one of the most interesting wineries in the Caserta region. Love for tradition, respect for the environment, openness to modern developments and technological innovations - these could be the leitmotifs of Villa Matilde and the heirs of the company founder, Maria Ida and Salvatore Avallone, who are endowed with a feverish desire for renewal.
With the acquisition of the Rocca dei Leoni estate in Sannio (2000) and the Altavilla estate in Irpinia (2004), Villa Matilde has developed into a large company with a very varied and wide range of products based on the native varieties Falanghina, Aglianico, Piedirosso, Primitivo, Fiano and Greco. Wine is the subject of ongoing studies at the estate to identify the grape varieties from which the oldest wines in the world were made. The wines vinified there are pleasing due to a very good price/performance ratio. And also the basic wines convince by their longevity and expressiveness.
In 2008, the International Year of Planet Earth, Villa Matilde launched the project "Issue zero" was brought to life. This extensive sustainability project aims to gradually reduce greenhouse gas emissions to zero and to produce wine in a particularly environmentally friendly way. The project covers the entire farm through a variety of measures, from work in the vineyard and cellar to distribution. Collected water is already used today to irrigate and clean the winery. Biomass produced during operation is also reused. In addition to the use of heat-insulating materials, the winery also uses natural ventilation systems to reduce energy consumption. Villa Matilde uses a combination system of photovoltaics and conventional power sources. SUPERIORE.DE
"It is largely thanks to the Avallone family and their 50 years of work at Villa Matilde that the Falerno has gone from a historical curiosity to a living, modern plant. ... Villa Matilde is much more than the mother company of the modern Falerno."Gambero Rosso
