The antithesis of this wine is the grape varieties and their processing. 60% Merlot and 40% Sangiovese from completely different terroirs are blended here to make a wine that is produced using both traditional (Merlot) and modern (Sangiovese) appassimento methods. Part of the Sangiovese grapes are dried before pressing, which makes the wine deeper, more velvety and fruitier.

Deep ruby colour with violet reflections. Spicy aroma with notes of black pepper and tobacco and beautiful, very present cherry fruit. Warm and enveloping on the palate, with good glycerin and great harmony. The fruit centre is enveloped by fresh tannins that give it structure and good ageing potential. A modern wine, but never modernistic in its clearly recognisable Zerbina style. SUPERIORE.DE

South Tyrol's Gewürztraminer has some top-class competition here: this unique white wine is made from one hundred per cent Albana grapes, 20% of which is only harvested as a late harvest after botrytis infestation in November. Only 2,800 bottles are sold.

Delicate gold colour with greenish reflections. On the nose, notes of white flowers combined with sweet, spicy fruit, citrus and mandarin notes, very precise and concentrated. Well-structured on the palate, the slight residual sugar gives it a certain opulence, but Tergeno always remains fresh and dynamic thanks to its considerable acidity. Marzieno presents itself as a complex and fresh Sangiovese with small portions of Cabernet and Merlot that give it depth. In its dynamic taste with a long finish, it relies above all on the substance of its abundant, elegant tannins and a very serious fruit. SUPERIORE.DE

Cristina Geminiani is one of the leading figures behind the revitalisation of Romagna DOC. In 1985, she began making wine on her grandfather's estate, Fattoria Zerbina. Her wines have personality and technical precision. The vineyards are planted as bush vines in the Marzeno subzone. The Pietramora has an elegant, restrained nose of dark plums, black cherries, dried roses, cocoa and tobacco. On the palate, it displays rich and intense fruit with grippy tannins balanced by zesty acidity, with a lingering, savoury finish. SUPERIORE.DE

Only 2,500 bottles were bottled in this vintage. Light golden yellow in colour. The dense bouquet exudes the aroma of quinces and dried apricots, with a high viscosity in the glass and on the palate. The high residual sugar is offset by a racy acidity. Orange peel flavour in the long finish. SUPERIORE.DE

Here comes the second vintage of Zerbina's single-vineyard Sangiovese, with which the winery once again proves in a very small edition (< 1,000 bottles) once again proves what great Sangiovese Romagna can produce. Dark-fruited, full nose with a cornucopia of dark berry fruits and hints of forest floor, tar and white ash. Firm on the palate, enormously complex, the concentrated fruit gradually opens up with further airing and a Sangiovese work of art is revealed that could not be more typical, pure and at the same time more complex. "Hedonist factor max. Mid to deep ruby. A super-enticing nose of chalky, concentrated cherry and damson fruit dabbed with sweet oak notes and with the merest suggestion of rosemary and cinnamon. The tannins add the fireworks. They are simply perfect, gravelly and ripe. Long, lush and finely balanced, this will age gracefully but I caught it at just this irresistible stage.
