“del Pompiere” Sauvignon Venezia Giulia IGT 2023
Mario Schiopetto was born in 1930, he grew up in the family-owned Osteria ai Pompieri and had his first professional experiences as a fireman and later as a truck driver. In 1963, guided only by his taste and love of wine, he began to devote himself to wine production in his parents' farm and produced the first pure Tocai in 1965. The historic label at the time included the drawing of his fire engine, which he also used to deliver the wine to customers. With the 2019 vintage, the winery recalled these historical roots and resumed the cute drawing on part of its wine labels.
Light straw yellow with greenish shimmer. Fine, not too strong bouquet of exotic fruits, some gooseberry and notes of white flowers. Very good balance on the palate, good volume, drinky and with a nice tension between green fruity and fine spicy notes. A very harmonious Sauvignon that does not score with opulence and directness, but with elegance and finesse. SUPERIORE.DE

Attractive Pinot Gris from Friuli with green apple and orange blossom, a hint of wet stones and coriander on the nose. Pleasantly medium-bodied on the palate with a wonderfully fresh final. Appealing and sophisticated. SUPERIORE.DE
"Iris root, pomelo and fresh turmeric root. A Pinot from Friuli, floral with jasmine on the nose, and with a flavour reminiscent of spotted pears sent in rainbow-coloured soap bubbles across a blue sky." Jancis Robinson

Pinot Grigio Collio DOC 2022
Schiopetto's Pinot Grigio seduces with a nuanced and noble blend of yellow apples, spring flowers, wet stone and sweet smoke. On the entry, it is soft with an echo of green citrus and salty minerals that add tension, while lively notes of pear and inner flowers build towards the finish. It finishes with a pleasant inner sweetness, while a hint of spice and ginger lingers. This understated beauty is full of character and promises good ageing potential. SUPERIORE.DE
"A rich, carpeted ginger-pear wine that starts pretty, perky, floral and green. It spreads out like liquid silk, filling every corner with a kind of golden, silvery sheen that hints at honey and baked puff pastry to come, then returns to sweet peas and sugar snap peas." Jancis Robinson
"Delicate aromas of green apple, citrus, and fresh white flowers mingle in this expressive wine. The palate pops with vibrant flavors of ripe pear and lemon, complemented by a crisp acidity and a refreshing, clean finish." Wine Enthusiast
"The 2022 Pinot Grigio is remarkably pretty, with hints of sweet spice and white flowers emphasising freshly cut nectarines. The Pinot Grigio is incredibly fresh, with zesty acidity and a hint of green citrus to the ripe fruit. The finish is clean and of medium length, leaving a hint of young peach and chamomile. The balance of this wine is excellent and makes it easy to return to the glass again and again." Vinous
"Aromas of quince fruit, glazed lemons, peaches and a hint of praline. Also some wet stones. Medium to full-bodied with depth and a delicate phenolic note in the texture. Long and taut with a lively, nervy acidity that goes on and on. Lots of crushed stones and spices. Attractive." James Suckling

Pinot Bianco Collio DOC 2022
This mineral and concentrated wine emphasises the beauty of the Collio region. Ponca, the local name for the soil in the Collio, is a calcareous clay and sandstone conglomerate, which this wine shows in abundance. The first note of Ponca leads to ripe apples and white flowers. On the palate, it is complex and structured, creamy and with a strong acidity. It is a wine with stony and mineral undertones that emphasises the soil of this special place. SUPERIORE.DE
"Aromas of baked apples, lemon oil and pressed yellow flowers. On the palate, it delivers a delightful fusion of citrus and stone fruit flavors, culminating in a refreshing, clean finish that mirrors the region's vibrant spirit." Wine Enthusiast
"The 2022 Pinot Bianco captivates with a bouquet that mixes enriching notes of almond paste and sweet spice with crushed yellow apples. Silky and enveloping, this washes across the palate with medium-bodied weight and mineral-tinged orchard fruits as brisk acidity adds a cheek-puckering twang toward the close. The 2022 leaves tropical citrus and hints of green melon to linger on, finishing with admirable length and wonderfully fresh. Already a pleasure today, the 2022 Pinot Bianco will also excel over three to four years of cellaring." Vinous
"Crushed seashells, flint, white fruit and crumbled minerality. Quite textured with a medium to full body and a long, mineral finish. Has lovely mid-palate substance and tension." James Suckling

Friulano Collio DOC 2022
Schiopetto's Friulano is youthfully unobtrusive with a pretty bouquet that blends lemon peel with mint and hints of crushed rock. It washes over the palate with a tense mix of citrusy acids and salty minerals, while a core of tropical melon develops towards the end. Finishes on a more delicate note, but long and with pretty inner flowers that still linger. The beautiful balance and underlying power of this wine will guarantee good ageing in the bottle. The best is yet to come. SUPERIORE.DE
"Hawthorn blossom on the nose and then that indefinable, seamless, petal-wax smoothness-that-is-Friulano on the palate. It has Friulano's macadamia-nut-carved-into-flower smooth, sweet, floral oiliness. Kind of hard to define, kind of delicate, kind of ploppy (like fat rain drops). Poached-pear sweetness. A wine that would be delicious with anything soft and green and drenched in buttery beurre blanc. Wonderful with cold, minty lamb sausages." Jancis Robinson
"Lithe and well-balanced, this mouthwatering white has lively hints of grapefruit zest, milled white pepper and lemon thyme underscoring juicy tangerine, peach skin and lentil notes." Wine Spectator
"The 2022 Friulano wafts up with a delicate bouquet, blending minty herbs and wet stone with green apples and lime zest. This flows across the palate with ease, crisp and cool-toned in feel, with saline mineral tones adding a tactile feel as candied citrus notes resonate throughout. It finishes clean and with medium length, leaving a salty sensation and the mouth watering for more." Vinous
"Oyster shell, light flint, match stick, dried pear, and apple puree aromas and flavors. Medium to full body. Layered. Very minerally. Tight and focused. Serious." James Suckling

Malvasia Bianco Collio DOC 2022
Schiopetto's delicious Malvasia seduces with multi-layered flavours of crushed apple, spices, smoke, raw almonds and white flowers. It has a silky texture and envelops the palate with fragrant waves of ripe melon and orchard fruit, enlivened by lively acidity. It offers a seductive interplay of savoury and sweet flavours and has a long but also incredibly fresh finish. This wine is simply stunning and yet still as youthfully closed as it is today. Patience is required to experience the full effect. SUPERIORE.DE
"Ashy and chalky with wet stones and grilled herbs to the green fruit. Really flinty and structured with a medium to full body and a tight, dry and compact finish. A smoky, very stony Malvasia that has a mineral, extended finish." James Suckling

“Rivarossa” Rosso Venezia Giulia IGT 2019
Deep ruby red colour. Bright, fresh and savoury aromas and flavours of blueberries, flint, coffee and fresh herbs. Long and clean with soft tannins and very good clarity on the bright finish. A beautiful, very refined wine, characterised by its early attractiveness, but also by its velvet-pawed concentration and complexity. SUPERIORE.DE
"The 2019 Rivarossa, a blend of Cabernet and Merlot, takes its time to evolve in the glass. It's coy at first, with hints of dried black cherry. Swirling slowly unlocks depths of sage and exotic spice. This displays silky textures as a polished wave of red and black fruits swirls across a stream of zesty acidity. The 2019 slowly saturates the palate in youthful concentration, along with fine-grained tannins, while finishing long, structured and leaving a pleasant bitter tinge. There is potential here, yet it will require serious patience to unlock." Vinous
"Raspberry, blackcurrant bush and bark on the nose. Also some pencil. Full-bodied, but not overwhelming, with linear and polished tannins that run the length of the wine. Very solid and structured, but with a certain openness on the finish." James Suckling

Sauvignon Bianco Collio DOC 2022
Brilliant light straw yellow colour. Elegant aromas of gooseberry, smoke, some flint and lemon followed by a full body with powerful fruit and mineral nuances, very balanced, savoury and unmistakably high-class. SUPERIORE.DE
"Fresh and flavoursome on the nose with crushed apples, spicy herbs, mussels and citrus leaves. Medium-bodied, bright and lively with citrusy freshness, mouthwatering acidity and chalky minerality. Some salty undertones." James Suckling
"The 2022 Sauvignon is perfumed, casting a delicate array of wildflowers, tangerine and hints of incense from the glass. Seductively smooth and soothing upon entry, this quickly gains tension as zesty acidity and sour citrus tones collide over a core of tart green apple. Crisp and nearly crunchy in feel, the 2022 keeps the mouth watering for more while leaving a minty herbal tinge and salty flourish to linger on. Simply stunning." Vinous
"A Sauvignon of complexity and completeness, representative of the Capriva terroir. On the nose, notes of white apricot, then rosemary, bergamot and jasmine. Spicy and sweet on the palate, with a fruity note and a citrus finish." Luca Gardini

Deep ruby red. Bright, fresh and savoury aromas and flavours of blueberries, flint, coffee and fresh herbs. Long and clean with soft tannins and very good clarity on the bright end. A beautiful, very refined wine with early appeal but also velvet paws creeping concentration and complexity. SUPERIORE.DE
"A delicate blend of smoky sage, wild blueberries, cracked chalk and dried violets makes the 2018 Rivarossa a total pleasure to take in. This is silky and cool-toned with a balanced inner sweetness that offsets its tart wild berry fruits as peppery herbal tones amass toward the close. The Rivarossa tapers off structured with edgy tannins that pinch at the cheeks as a note of black licorice lingers on and on. A lot is going on beneath the surface here, but it will be several years before the 2018 comes entirely into focus." Vinous

"A", as it is called in the winery, represents the qualitative peak of Schiopetto. This wine is made from Chardonnay grapes and a small part of Friulano, which come from a historic single vineyard site of the winery in the Colli Orientali and achieve a unique expression. A perfect synthesis between the expressiveness of Chardonnay and the aromatic complexity of Friulano, this white wine shows the quintessence and full personality of the Friulian territory and is dedicated to Mario Schiopetto. The Schiopetto winery is one of the oldest wineries in the Collio region, which includes terraced vineyards between the towns of Gorizia and Cividale with a vineyard area of around 1,600 hectares. Because it quickly became an important pillar of the local wine industry and has remained so to this day, the founder and namesake Mario Schiopetto, who died at the age of 72, is also referred to as a pioneer of Friulian viticulture. The farm, situated on the rolling hills of Capriva del Friuli in the province of Gorizia, is now owned by Dottore Emilio Rotolo, who also owns the Volpe Pasini winery. Emilio Rotolo has entrusted the management to his son Alessandro, who is assisted by the experienced Lorenzo Landi as oenological advisor. In the cellar, Mario Schiopetto's son Giorgio, oenologist and agronomist, and Mauro Simeoni continue the work of the famous founder of the estate, always driven by great curiosity, with convincing passion.
Mario Schiopetto is considered the initiator of the quality revolution in Friuli's white wine sector. 30 hectares of vineyards are located in the fertile land surrounding the winery's headquarters - the ancient archbishop's palace in Capriva del Friuli - and further east on the site of the later acquired Podere dei Blumeri on the hills of Rosazzo in the Colli Orientali wine-growing area.
Here are some historical cornerstones without which the outstanding position of the winery today can hardly be explained: At the beginning of the 1960s, Mario Schiopetto decided to vinify his wines with thermocontrolled fermentation. From 1971, the winegrower was one of the first winegrowers in the region to refrain from adding sulphur to the must. At the beginning of the nineties, a new cellar with state-of-the-art technology was inaugurated, partly buried in a vineyard. It was also Mario Schiopetto who introduced a garden design concept for the plots in Friuli, after having his property checked by practice-oriented vine experts. The winery made a particularly happy decision in 2007 when it mixed Chardonnay from the Colli Orientali del Friuli with the Friulano grapes from the Collio and created Mario Schiopetto Bianco from this merger.
The wines of the Schiopetto winery are marketed at the earliest one and a half years after the harvest. The top white wines are flawless in their fragrance, regularly have a uniformly high level and are also capable of ageing. SUPERIORE.DE
"Mario Schiopetto is not just a name or a brand. He is the wine-growing Friuli. A guarantee of absolute quality. As a traveler by profession, he visited the best wineries in Europe and combined German technology with French finesse in the service of the Collio."Gambero Rosso
