“Majé" Pigato Riviera Ligure di Ponente DOC 2023 (BIO)
The grapes for the Majé come mainly from the Garaxin hill above the village of Pogli at an altitude of around 250 metres. The vineyard is terraced and laid out with stone walls (known as Majé in Ligurian dialect) and the clayey soil is rich in fossilised micro- and macrofauna. Bright straw yellow colour with greenish reflections. Intense yet delicate varietal bouquet of flowers, yellow peach and notes of aromatic Mediterranean maquis. Majé is characterised by elegance, freshness and a wonderful minerality. SUPERIORE.DE

“Bansigu” Rosso Colline Savonesi IGT 2023 (BIO)
In the Ligurian dialect, bansigu means vigour, verve and could not describe the character of this lively, typically Mediterranean red better. It is primarily made from Granaccia, an autochthonous grape that, together with Rossese, Barbera and Cinsault, ensures great juiciness and freshness.
Light cherry red in colour with ruby reflections. Intense and fascinating nose with notes of dog rose, strawberries, plums and raspberries. Lively and light on the palate with a very interesting arc of tension, the final is fruity with invigorating acidity and a salty Mediterranean vein. SUPERIORE.DE

“Burdigai” Rosato Colline Savonesi IGT 2023 (BIO)
"Burdigai" is Ligurian dialect and means shrubs of the Mediterranean maquis. From a small and isolated terrace facing west, surrounded by Mediterranean shrubs, comes this truly original Rosato, which should not actually exist. Because the grape variety is unknown, it is alternatively called "Franseise" because it apparently comes from the south of France and not even the owners know the exact origin and age, nor do they know who planted the vines there in the first place. Nevertheless, the vines have been cultivated and cared for over decades and at some point the family council decided to press an independent rosé from them.
Intense coral pink, fine and original bouquet of pink grapefruit, raspberry and strawberry with subtle mineral notes. Very dry in the mouth, floral, with lively acidity and pronounced spiciness. Characteristic is the mineral-chalky impression at the back of the palate, which prolongs the wine's originality and tension. The lasting impression left by this exciting and full-bodied and pleasantly purist Rosato is a blend of elegance, finesse and uncompromisingness that is second to none. SUPERIORE.DE

Vermentino Riviera Ligure di Ponente DOC 2023 (BIO)
The grapes for this single-varietal Vermentino come from three small terraces surrounded by stone walls on the Garaxin vineyard. The soils consist mainly of calcareous marine rock and are rich in micro- and macrofossil fauna. Forests and Mediterranean shrubs grow around the vineyards, which are essential for tempering the hot, dry and very windy climate. Bright and luminous straw yellow in colour, the bouquet is fine and delicate with notes of lemon peel, cereals and aromatic herbs from the Mediterranean maquis. The strong flavour is very spicy and typical of the grape variety with a hint of sea salt and dried herbs. SUPERIORE.DE

“Le Russeghine” Pigato Riviera Ligure di Ponente DOC 2023 (BIO)
The grapes come mainly from the historic Russeghine vineyard above the town of Ranzo Borgo. The character of the Pigato here is of particular depth and minerality, which is due to the exceptional terroir and the long maturation on the fine lees. Bright straw yellow in colour with light green reflections. Fragrant nose of herbs, yellow fruit and traces of pine resin. Full and long-lasting flavour with beautiful spiciness and aromas of citrus and almond, then again this beguiling, deep minerality at the end. SUPERIORE.DE

“Pulin” Rosso Colline Savonesi IGT 2019
Pulin is the result of the rediscovery of the Granaccia grape, which is one of the most precious of the small wine region of Liguria and was almost extinct. The wines, produced in absolutely small quantities, have an excellent structure, Mediterranean radiance and remarkable ageing potential.
Intense and concentrated cherry red, Mediterranean bouquet of red fruits such as strawberry, blackberry, wild strawberries, plus fine hints of sweet spices and tobacco. On the palate, very harmonious with elegant, polished tannins and a very long and spicy finish. An impressive red of great complexity, elegance and finesse, here all components are impressively perfectly matched. SUPERIORE.DE

“u Baccan” Pigato Riviera Ligure di Ponente DOC 2022 (BIO)
The Pigato grape has great ageing and maturation potential, especially in Liguria. U Baccan (Ligurian: the head) comes mainly from vines in the Russeghine vineyard, which are over 50 years old, produce a very low yield and give it enormous complexity. Intense straw yellow in colour with bright golden-green reflections. The bouquet is impressively pure with beguiling hints of sage, thyme, peach, mango, cedar bark, acacia honey and silica. Enveloping, balsamic and mineral on the palate, with a hint of salty almond and candied citrus fruit on the long, vibrant final. A Pigato in a class of its own in the finest Riserva quality. Riccardo Bruna's daughters Francesca and Annamaria went to Genoa to study, convinced that engineering and pharmaceutical chemistry were their future. However, it didn't take too long for them to be convinced otherwise and they were drawn back to the vineyards of their beautiful Ligurian homeland. Their father's deep-rooted passion for Ligurian wine could not simply pass the sisters by without leaving a trace.
"My father considered himself a traditionalist, but I knew that he was actually a revolutionary," says Francesca Bruna, who today successfully runs the Bruna family winery together with her husband Roberto. Her father Riccardo did indeed have revolutionary views when it came to Ligurian viticulture and was one of the first winegrowers to devote his heart and soul to the cultivation of the Pigato grape - a white, late-ripening grape variety related to Vermentino.
Thanks to Riccardo Bruna's intuition and enthusiasm, he began to restore and sustainably cultivate the historic family vineyards in Ranzo in the early 1970s. From the very beginning, Riccardo Bruna's only possible way of harvesting the best grapes and producing better and better wines every year was to do without any herbicides or synthetic products. This approach was not particularly common at the time, which meant that the winery was able to clearly stand out from the competition.
Bold decisions were therefore a constant part of the winery's working philosophy and the following generation has also remained true to this: In addition to the organic and natural cultivation of the vines, fermentation in the cellar takes place with indigenous yeasts. Pure yeasts are avoided without exception and the wines mature for a long time on the noble indigenous yeasts. All vineyards have been certified organic since the 2022 vintage.
"This has always been our way of working with Pigato grapes," says Francesca, who is now one of the leading quality producers in Liguria. The typical characteristics of the grape variety and Riccardo's personality should remain unmistakable in their own wines, which Francesca and Roberto have undoubtedly succeeded in doing. In collaboration with OenologistValter Bonetti, they produce not only tasty Pigato wines but also an outstanding Vermentino and harmonious red wine cuvées from the Rossese, Granaccia, Syrah and Barbera grape varieties.
Today, eight hectares of vineyards thrive on Ligurian stone-walled terraces between the municipalities of Ortovero and Ranzo, surrounded by Mediterranean scrub, olive trees and oaks. The dry, mild and very windy climate allows the vines to be cultivated close to nature, surrounded by the endless horizon of the western Mediterranean and the enchanting green landscape of the Ligurian Alps. The Bruna winery represents Liguria's unique beauty and diversity, which has long been preserved by the family of the same name. SUPERIORE.DE
