“Mazane” Marzemino Garda DOC 2021
Marzemino is an indigenous Venetian grape related to Refosco and Teroldego. Intense ruby red in colour with clear, purple-red reflections. In the glass, it has a fragrant and generous aroma of ripe red cherries and blackberries. The palate reveals a finely tuned harmony and an enveloping softness, enlivened by a cheerful, fresh acidity that leads to a very respectable finish full of character. Mazane is a highly distinctive red that you would not necessarily immediately recognise as being from Lake Garda. SUPERIORE.DE

Groppello gentile is a grape with tightly packed berries, small seeds and a very thin and fragile skin. It is certainly the most famous red wine grape on the Riviera del Garda and was already cultivated by the Romans in the Valtènesi.
Brilliant, deep ruby red colour. Pungent and very clear bouquet of fine spicy notes, plus an interesting potpourri of violets, sage, plum, pepper and olive wood.
Precise and fine texture on the palate with well-defined, beautifully knitted tannins. Primary fruit flavours, balanced and elegant through to the delicate and persistent final. A feminine and well-proportioned red with a beautiful terroir character. SUPERIORE.DEread more- Grape Variety: 100% Groppello

“Rosa Mara” Chiaretto Valtènesi Riviera del Garda Classico DOC 2023
Rosa Mara is undoubtedly one of the favourite wines of Mattia Vezzola, who is dedicated to reinterpreting a historic vinification method that has been practised in this region since the 18th century. This Chiaretto is produced using the traditional "a lacrima" method, in which the grapes are pressed gently and carefully so that they begin to "cry". To achieve the perfect colour, the tone of the rosato is constantly monitored during production. Speaking of perfect: with this wine, Mattia proves how masterfully he has mastered this process and brought it to absolute perfection.
Pale pink in colour with a fine mother-of-pearl hue. The bouquet of probably the most famous Chiaretto from Lake Garda is fascinatingly inviting and stimulating with notes of vineyard peach, cherry stones, dried herbs and a hint of grapefruit. On the palate, it fulfils all expectations in terms of its class and juiciness, structure and harmonious texture. Salty minerals provide balance, while ripe fruit trees cascade upwards. The crisp, refreshing final is exciting and characterised by a pleasant citrus and almond note. SUPERIORE.DE

“Maim” Valtènesi Riviera del Garda Classico DOC 2018
Mattia Vezzola's top wine demonstrates the heights that the indigenous Groppello grape variety can reach. Sweet dark cherries, herbs, liquorice and tar are just some of the nuances that emerge from this plush, deep red wine. Maim impresses with its extraordinary intensity and richness - from the first sip to the end of the bottle. And it is not only because of its exceptionally fine texture and almost endless finish that it is without question a jewel of a wine and a flagship of the appellation. SUPERIORE.DE

Fragrant capers, cedars and citrus trees only grow in the south of Italy - with the exception of Lombardy: the Mediterranean climate on Italy's largest lake makes the picturesque shores of Lake Garda something very special. On the western shore in the village of Moniga del Garda in the heart of the Valtènesi region, Mattia Vezzola's grandfather founded the Costaripa winery in 1936, which was to mark the beginning of a real success story.
As a child, Mattia dreamed of becoming a vet, but his father convinced him to study oenology. Fortunately, looking back today, he was persuaded. Mattia has already been honoured five times as Italy's best Oenologist by various wine guides and associations.
Far-sighted curiosity.
In the local Valtènesi area, which stretches from north to south between the municipalities of Desenzano and Salò, the winemaker is regarded as a pioneer of local sparkling wine production. Mattia explains that he owes this passion to an inspiring trip to Champagne. As a young winemaker there in 1972, he came into contact with the craft of classic bottle fermentation, known in Italy as the "Metodo Classico".
Mattia demonstrated his expertise as head Oenologist at the famous Franciacorta winery Bellavista for forty years. In 1973, he produced Lake Garda's first bottle-fermented sparkling wine, which undoubtedly had to be a labour-intensive "Metodo Classico" and matured in wooden barrels, following the example of champagne. From there, he gradually created Costaripa's refined range of fine and complex sparkling wines. Today, half of Costaripa's wine cellar is dedicated to the Metodo Classico, while the other half is focussed on the production of traditional Valtènesi wines. In addition to the indispensable Lugana, this also includes single-varietal red wines made from Marzemino and Groppello grapes as well as the Rosamara rosé, which has conquered our wine market in a very short time.
In harmony with nature.
For Mattia, it has always been about making wine production as natural as possible, which is why the grapes on his farm are cultivated according to a biodynamic approach. The work in the vineyard therefore involves up to 400 hours per hectare, with most of the work being done by hand. In the meantime, the fourth generation has also been inspired by the winemaking profession: Mattia is now supported in the production of his incomparable wines by his children Nicole and Gherardo, who share their father's great passion.
