The famous Romano Levi distillery was bought by an old friend of Levi and an investor from the town of Neive after his death (1 May 2010). Their aim is to maintain the tradition, art and spirit of Romano Levi in Neive. Today, the old distillery has been completely renovated and converted into a museum. The new owners continue to use the old Levi still. The technology and the barrels, however, are new in order to produce a higher quality, more sophisticated grappa.

From Romano Levi's huge legacy of hand-painted labels, we have now been able to select some of the most interesting graphics, which - reproduced in high quality - are available exclusively from us.

The fresh, must-soaked marc is compressed in underground pits immediately after delivery in order to naturally extract all the aromas and flavours of the grape. Distillation takes place exclusively in the months of March and April using the discontinuous method on direct fire and the very special characteristics perfected by Levi. Montestefano Riserva is exquisite and harmonious from start to finish. Of the Produttori's nine great Riservas, it is the one that best conceals its tannins, as the fruit is intensely fragrant, rich and seductive. For us, it is a synthesis of Montefico, Ovello and Rabajà. Today, Montestefano gives the impression of being relatively accessible, but it will almost certainly go through a few more stages of closure before it fully opens up. The bouquet surprises us with sheer endless complexity and depth. Its silky, polished tannins give an impression of sensual elegance. Michele Chiarlo's Barbaresco Faset offers a high degree of intensity and balance. Its bouquet shows wild berries and cassis with sophisticated background notes of tar, smoke and dark spices. It goes without saying, but this is "only" the Altare family's entry-level Barolo from four different vineyards, enhanced this year by the best grapes from Cerretta Vigna Bricco, which was not produced in 2020. A highly linear personality on the palate with flavours of sour cherry, aniseed, crushed rock and blue flowers. This wine is practically a Barolo, except for the fact that it is released a year earlier. Langhe Giàrborina draws its fruit from the top Arborina site in La Morra. Blackberries and plums are surrounded by smoke, tar and black liquorice in the most refined and elegant way. Barolo Bricco delle Viole 2018 is unusually open and seductive, as it is normally rather shy and needs time before it shows the full range of its personality. In the drink, then, the typical, medium-heavy characteristics of Bricco delle Viole, at the same time the contours are soft and the wine's personality demands the next sip. "The Elio Altare 2020 Langhe Rosso Larigi is 100% Barbera, with just three barriques (or 900 bottles) produced. Yields were reduced because some of the vines suffer from the floral disease Flavescence dorée, which is unfortunately popping up throughout the region. From the beginning, Pio Cesare produced limited quantities of Barolo Chinato and Vermouth, precisely according to a family recipe handed down by his grandfather. In the early 1950s, however, production was discontinued as tastes and preferences changed.

In recent years, it has been noted that Piedmont lovers are again increasingly craving traditional character, strong personality and great individuality in aromatic wines and in wine-based aperitifs. As a result, the decision was made to produce small quantities of Barolo Chinato and Vermouth again - again strictly according to a secret family recipe that was kept under lock and key for many years under the careful supervision of the grandmother, granddaughter of the founder.

An infusion of Chinchona (China Calissaja and Succirubra bark) is macerated for 21 days in a small amount of classic Barolo. A mixture of aromatic herbs such as gentian root, rhubarb, cardamom seeds, sweet and bitter orange, cinnamon and other spices is then added, which together make up the special family recipe. After a few weeks of ageing, a certain amount of classic Barolo is then added. SUPERIORE.DE

The single vineyard Serradenari is currently the highest in the Barolo area and is also the historic site of the appellation (MGA - Menzione Geografica Aggiuntiva). The cool and mountainous climate with its clay and marl soils gives rise to a Nebbiolo that makes few words - it is precise, clear and unambiguous.

All the more exciting when the result opens up with some aeration and maturity and reveals its full range of sensuality and loveliness.
