Brachetto d’Acqui DOCG 2023 vivace
An elementary component of Piedmontese drinking culture and probably one of the most underrated wines in Italy with DOCG status: the clearly sparkling Brachetto d'Acqui is light ruby red in colour (with cherry-red foam). The bouquet is very aromatic with notes of nutmeg, rose and violet. The flavour is extremely elegant, reminiscent of strawberries, round and finely balanced between mild sweetness and fruity, very refreshing astringency. SUPERIORE.DE
"Light, bright cherry red with a soft mousseux. Fruity nose of juicy sour cherries, with a hint of violets and bitter almonds. In the mouth with a fine sweetness, beautiful fruit and invigorating freshness, harmonious and persistent." Falstaff
"This wine is full of ripe strawberries, raspberries, red flowers and candied oranges. Sweet but not cloying, fresh and juicy, with a light to medium body and creamy bubbles. Aromatic and bright." James Suckling
"This is a field of berries in a glass! This lightly effervescent sweet wine is pure joy, with aromas and flavours of crushed raspberries, candied cherries and strawberry rhubarb tart, all wrapped up in a fresh, easy-drinking playground for the palate. A wine for warm days and picnics or for that "cheat day" of eating ice cream and berries." Wine Enthusiast

"This Moscato d'Asti is an almost flawless combination of fresh and vibrant flavours of white peach and green apples and shines with notes of mint and lemongrass. "Grignolio, the name says it all, you can't help but smile at this wine. It opens with aromas of dried raspberries, strawberries and cranberries, which combine with notes of sage, thyme and dusty earth on the nose. The palate reveals crunchy red berries with notes of blood orange and citrus fruits, which lend the palate a certain sharpness. “Curej” Barbera d’Asti DOCG 2022
"We want this land to say: Barbera. We've always thought that, ever since the first vineyards that grandfather Giuseppe left to his father Giacomo, where grapes were grown for La Monella. Then the ones between Rocchetta and Belveglio (the vineyards of Bricco dell'Uccellone), which mother Anna brought as a dowry, and the vineyards of Montebruna, which we bought and merged - and which we still look at with great pride." Familie Bologna
The first vintage of Curej was harvested in 2019 with the same respect for the landscape and the grape variety, and the name says it all: it is the nickname of the families who have always lived in the village of Rocchetta Tanaro, which has a population of 1,400. This wine is therefore an impressive reminder of its roots, the typical flavour of the Barbera grape and the open, wide and happy panaroma that can be enjoyed from the San Bernardo vineyard.
Curej is an extremely fresh, straightforward and precise Barbera, full of primary flavours, which impressively reflects the signature of the Braida winery, famous for the grape, because hardly anyone can interpret the DNA of this classic Piedmontese grape variety better than Rafaella and Giuseppe Bologna! SUPERIORE.DE

"Rich, deep dark ruby with a slight violet shimmer. Very intense and deep nose of dark wild raspberries and black cherries, in the background cinnamon and some red beet. Round and mouth-filling on the palate, showing lots of ripe cherry fruit, embedded in fine melting, unfolds elegantly and with persistence." Falstaff
"Aromas of baked plum, baking spice and mocha emerge from the glass. The bold, full-bodied palate offers cherry marinated in spirits, white pepper and cocoa alongside smooth tannins." Wine Enthusiast
"Like all the Barberas from Braida in this flight, the alcohol content is recorded at a hefty 15.5% here, but the 2018 Barbera d'Asti Bricco della Bigotta shows a lot more ripeness, sweetness and rich concentration across the board. This expression is just heavier and denser. You sink your teeth into this red wine. There is oak spice and toasted cinnamon, and the wine carries extra fruit weight." Wine Advocate

“Bricco dell’Uccellone” Barbera d’Asti DOCG 2020 · 6 bottles in OWC
With tireless dedication, the Bologna family fulfils the legacy of Giacomo Bologna, who is rightly described as the father of modern Barbera d'Asti. The historic jewel of the house is the Bricco dell'Uccellone: dense and complex on the nose, with blackberry jam, mocha, liquorice and cloves on the palate. Its fine-grained tannins and excellent structure carry it with beautiful fruit and acid wire into a long-lasting finish. SUPERIORE.DE
"Bright ruby red colour. Initially bread crust on the nose, then rich wild berry fruit, liquorice, wild berry, dark chocolate. On the palate with tightly woven tannins, clear fruit and beautiful juiciness, very drinky for 16.5% alcohol, very well balanced, long." Falstaff
"The Braida 2020 Barbera d'Asti Bricco dell'Uccellone is one of the bottles that made Italian wine history. It shows its dark and savoury side with ripe cherries, baked plums, spices, tarry smoke and campfire embers. With time, these aromas soften and reorganise, reminiscent of espresso beans or baking chocolate. The wine is very concentrated and fruit-driven." Wine Advocate
"A supple red wine with flavours of plums, blueberries, clay and toasted oak. On the finish it shows assertive tannins, but it has plenty of fruit and the long finish shows its future potential." Wine Spectator
"Notes of crushed dark berries, chocolate, cured meat and dark earth. Medium to full-bodied, juicy and fresh with tension and energy in the dark fruit. Lively acidity. Chalky and intense finish. Very attractive." James Suckling
"This historic Barbera opens with blackberry compote, spiced black plums, cedar and sweet spices. The opulent palate shows notes of preserved cherries, aniseed, cloves and cocoa, with polished and elegant tannins. The wine finishes with a lively acidity that keeps this big, bold and beautiful wine fresh with every glass." Wine Enthusiast

“Ai Suma” Barbera d’Asti DOCG 2020 · 6 bottles in OWC
Ai Suma offers great balance and tension. Intense ruby red with garnet-coloured reflections. There is a lot of black fruit on the nose and on the palate, along with spices, tar and leather. The wine finishes with a hint of sweetness, but the natural acidity of the grape comes in to add a pinch of freshness at the end, emphasising the class of this wine. Full, powerful, full of character, but at the same time elegant, harmonious and very persistent - a Barbera in a class of its own every year. SUPERIORE.DE
"This is quite ripe and spicy with dried cherries, moist bark and hints of undergrowth. Medium- to full-bodied, dense and concentrated with a juicy core of red and dark berries and velvety tannins. Lingering and flavorful." James Suckling
"The Braida 2020 Barbera d'Asti Ai Suma shows a very ripe bouquet featuring air-dried fruit, raisin and prune. There is a lot of muscle and power in this wine delivered in terms of texture, concentration and alcohol that in this vintage measures a whopping 16%. Think of this as the Amarone of Asti. The finish is creamy soft and slightly sweet." Wine Advocate

The Bologna family has been successfully producing wine in Monferrato for about half a century. And her winery Braida has always been one of the most outstanding wineries in Piedmont. With the siblings Raffaella and Giuseppe Bologna, the third generation has taken over the management of the family business. In their work, the two oenologists combine modern knowledge with tradition. In the 1980s, her father Giacomo Bologna had broken new ground in dealing with the Barbera grape by daring for the first time to mature in barriques and giving the red variety the status of a noble vine. The name of the winery goes back to the grandfather of the current owners, Giuseppe Bologna, who used to nickname himself "Bologna" on village squares during ball games. "Braida" for the first time.
The production of the world-famous winery is mainly focused on Barbera, the most widespread grape variety in Piedmont. The winery also sees itself as a pioneer of the Barbera d'Asti. On the vineyards of the municipality of Rocchetta Tanaro the grapes for the flagship of the Braida winery and probably the most famous Barbera of all - the "Bricco dell'uccellones". In addition there are vines in Costigliole d'Asti and Castelnuovo Calcea as well as in the higher vineyards of Mango d'Alba and Trezzo Tinella. Raffaella and Giuseppe, in addition to the Barbera grape, are also dedicated to other indigenous grape varieties such as Moscato, Brachetto and Grignolino. Merlot, Pinot Nero and Cabernet Sauvignon also grow in the estate's own vineyards. The soils consist mostly of clay, lime and sand. The soil is usually loose to medium hard.
Uncompromising pursuit of quality, passion for the terroir, innovation and sustainability are the ingredients of Braida's success. The worldwide great recognition can be read not only in the cult wine "Bricco dell'uccellones"but also in the Barbera classic "Montebruna" and in "Bricco della Bigotta". All three plants have been alternated by the wine guide Gambero Rossoin the past years with "Three glasses" excellent. SUPERIORE.DE
"The Barberas produced have always been so powerful, multi-layered and deep that they are the perfect expression of the modern interpretation of this vine."Gambero Rosso
