With its high location in the hills to the west of Barolo, Bricco delle Viole is a world apart in terms of the soil (with marl and fossils from Sant'Agata) and even the harvest times. The slow and careful ageing gives it a very delicate and ethereal bouquet with floral notes, wild mint and liquorice. "Bricco delle Viole is the vineyard that has taught us patience and naturally defines the style of our craft," says Aldo Vaira about this MGA. Graceful and austere at the same time, it has sweet violet and pomegranate flavours, is initially restrained in style, but not without complexity in depth. "The Bricco delle Viole is a fairly full-bodied, mouth-filling wine that needs further ageing to assimilate. Complex aromas of cinnamon, brushwood, violets, mint and cherry blossom intertwine to create an intoxicating flavour. The core of dark berry fruit is fleshy and rich, but is cleanly and firmly enveloped by suede-textured tannins. The youthful tension is enhanced by the characteristic linear acidity.
