Davide Rosso's Barolo is a great entry-level wine and provides a good introduction to the distinct flavour profile that the two single-vineyard Barolo Cerretta and Serra also exhibit. Crushed flowers, sweet pipe tobacco, dried cherry and cedar blossom effortlessly from the glass. This medium-bodied, beautifully perfumed Barolo is full of charm and its bright acids give it remarkable drive. Wonderful value. SUPERIORE.DE
"Bright ruby red with garnet reflections. Elegant and inviting fruit on the nose of ripe raspberries, strawberries and cherries, underpinned by pencil lead, leather and mint. Very elegant, fruity entry on the palate, with a delicate melting texture and good balance as it progresses, the tightly woven tannins are finely integrated, with plenty of fruit on the long final." Falstaff
"Aromas and flavors of raspberry, cherry, rose, spices and tar highlight this light-bodied yet firmly structured red. Elegant, with a solid line of chalky tannins informing the mouthwatering finish." Wine Spectator
"Bright ruby red in colour, this is a restrained Barolo with aromas of wild strawberries, parma violets, cinnamon and orange peel. The palate is crisp, with dusty tannins, a medium body, a good concentration of blood orange flavours, a dense structure and a polished finish. Due to its balance, it is approachable now but will improve with time." James Suckling

The Barolo del Comune di Serralunga d'Alba shows the true essence and balanced power of this famous village. It presents itself in the glass with a dark garnet colour and hints of red brick. It is full of spicy and earthy accents that perfectly complement the dark side of the Nebbiolo grape. Black cherry, leather, game, smoke, tobacco and liquorice unfold beautifully in the glass with further aeration and give it the necessary structure and power right through to the respectable finish. SUPERIORE.DE
"Brilliant ruby red with a slightly brightening, orange-coloured rim. Initially somewhat reserved on the nose, then opens up to wild berries and raspberries, with a slightly smoky note in the background and some undergrowth. On the palate with a beautiful fruit entry, fine melting and good balance, the tannins are tightly meshed and well integrated, ending in a long final on raspberries." Falstaff
"Very classic bright garnet color. Aromas of potpourri, dried cherries and licorice, then firm, ripe, velvety tannins, red fruit character and elegant acidity. It displays a medium body with good concentration for aging a couple of decades." James Suckling

Limitation of 2 articles per customerBarolo Cerretta DOCG 2019
Barolo Cerretta is a dense, concentrated and energetic expression of Nebbiolo. Red and purple fruit flavours of cassis, dried cranberries and cherries set beautiful accents, but there is also plenty of room for the equally beautiful aromas of liquorice, campfire ash and candied orange peel that play such a deft supporting role. On the palate, it is a brilliant, polished wine with enough tannin to allow it to mature in the cellar for another 10 or 20 years. SUPERIORE.DE
"Classic, delicate colour with an orange rim. It has a youthful nose, fragrant and delicate, with some marzipan and nutty sweetness, less intense than in 2018. With a beautiful juicy style, it presents itself dense and clear on the palate, broad, very harmonious and classically tannic, less fruity than expected. Rather, it appears like a masculine Serralunga with a firm handshake and shows a dense tannic flavour on the finish, very long and balanced." Weinwisser
"Concentrated and delicately perfumed at the same time. Raspberry fruit with a hint of orange. Juicy raspberry fruit on the palate with plenty of supple acidity and beautiful, enveloping tannins that absorb the lush fruit. Complete." Jancis Robinson
"Bright ruby-garnet colour with a shiny core. Deep nose, earth and iron, delicate herbal notes, very subtle hints of raspberry, appears cool, like cold wax. Very full-bodied on the palate, with pronounced, tightly woven tannins, present, long final, juicy on candied oranges." Falstaff
"The Barolo Cerretta 2019 is soft, delicate and noble. Dried rose petals, cinnamon, blood orange, mint and dried flowers complete the layers. This effortless, multi-layered Barolo opens up beautifully with a little time in the glass. It has a wonderful resonance and plenty of class." Vinous
"Baked strawberries and pink flowers on the nose, scented fruity, floral and herbal - lifted and full of aromatic intensity. Supple and charming from the start, intensely juicy - the acidity adds a tangy, sharp note to the cherries and raspberries, while the tannins coat the mouth with a fine powder and support the red berry fruit. Round, generous, bright and really well delineated, you can feel the sinew of this wine, it has muscle but is soft and moulded. A core of savoury minerality, wet stones and olives give the wine a spicy balance and add complexity and interest. A beautiful, elegant glass of wine with nuance." Decanter

"Enchanting perfume of raspberries and herbs, enveloped by chaste violet notes; pithy attack, robust tannins, long finish. Pleasing with its verve." Vinum
"Sparkling, medium-dense ruby garnet colour. Opens with notes of ripe plums, some dark bread crust, truffle and wild raspberry. Compact, present tannin in many layers, interspersed with sweet melting, firm pressure, full-bodied in the final." Falstaff
"Palish ruby. Spice, dark earth and minerally, salty notes over deep raspberry fruit. Impressive depth on the palate while the fruit is still a little backward. Very long with lots of supple acidity and a long grip of super-fine grainy tannins." Jancis Robinson
"Enticing aromas of cinnamon-dusted cedar and sandalwood intertwine with dried cherries, rose petals, and a hint of sage. This full-bodied wine boasts a firm structure, while the palate reveals blackberry and plum flavors. The chewy texture and intricate aromatics create a captivating and memorable experience that makes this wine worth the search." Wine Enthusiast
"The Giovanni Rosso 2020 Barolo Cerretta, with fruit from Serralunga d'Alba, is quite generous and ripe, owing to sunny vintage conditions. It opens to a dark ruby color and pretty concentration with perfumes that are fine and elegant; they recall lavender, wild berry, plum and rusty nail. The Cerretta vineyard delivers a lingering sense of sweetness, and that becomes a signature for this wine. These results are immediate and up front." Wine Advocate
"Davide Rosso’s 2020 Barolo Cerretta is laced with sweet dark cherry, spice, lavender, cedar, pipe tobacco and dried herbs. Medium in body, with compelling sweetness and inner perfume, the 2020 has much to recommend it. Readers will find an especially open Barolo that is typical of this sector in Serralunga, where the wines are a bit more forward and less potent than those from vineyards closer to the center of town. This is beautifully done." Vinous
"Pale ruby with a dark, complex and vibrant nose of prunes, roses, violets, balsamic, licorice and restrained peach peel. On the palate this is concentrated, with a full body, firm yet ripe tannins and crisp acidity. Overall more powerful than elegant, but very refined in the finish. It could use a bit more depth, but with bottle aging it will increase in complexity." James Suckling

"Bright, medium-dense ruby-garnet colour. Fragrant nose of preserved peach, pomegranate and raspberry, some smoke in the background. Firm, gripping tannins, underpinned by sweet melting, but still needs to come together." Falstaff
"The Barolo Serra 2020 is a nervous, taut Serralunga Barolo. White pepper, chalk, mint, dried flowers, crushed rock and orange peel permeate a core of red fruit, adding brightness and tension. harvestwho like tense Barolos will find plenty of these qualities here. Pretty floral overtones brighten the finish in a pleasant way." Vinous
"A very pale ruby colour is supported by a complex, multi-layered nose of rhubarb, earthy strawberries, redcurrants, violets and cinnamon. The palate is full of sucrose and shows good concentration, medium body, refreshing acidity, finely tuned dusty tannins and a polished finish. Cherry stone and floral aftertaste. A stylish wine with ageing potential, but also ready to drink." James Suckling
"The Giovanni Rosso 2020 Barolo Serra comes from a beautiful panoramic amphitheater of vines. This wine has an etched and vertical quality that you recognize in its lifted bouquet. Sweet cherry and plum are folded into riper aromas of blackberry coulis and raspberry tart. The tannins are quite elegant and firm, and the wine offers very good length and lasting freshness." Powerful wines with a velvety structure and elegance are the hallmark of the Piedmontese family business Giovanni Rosso. Located in the well-known municipality of Serralunga d'Alba, the Rosso family has been cultivating its vineyards since the 1890s.
Until the estate's namesake, Giovanni Rosso, decided to press his own wines in 1995, the estate had been exclusively dedicated to selling grapes for a century. Today's success story really got rolling when Giovanni's son Davide joined the company as head Oenologist in 2011. The then 21-year-old had previously studied in Burgundy and worked there at prestigious wineries such as Domaine Jean Grivot and Domaine Denis Mortet. There he learnt above all how to produce quality wines that express the historical winegrowing tradition and the unique growing region in the glass.
In his own winery, Davide has defined his current guiding principle over the years: "Every wine must be the perfect copy of its terroir". It is not without reason that the Rosso family has owned some of the most sought-after vineyards in the Langhe for many years, such as Serra, Broglio, Damiano, Cerretta, Lirano, Meriame, Costa Bella and Sorano. Davide also cultivates a parcel of 80-year-old vines in the unique Vignarionda vineyard, whose Barolo wines have earned Giovanni Rosso international recognition.
The Nebbiolo, Barbera and Arneis grapes are cultivated in an environmentally friendly way and without any chemicals. Davide attaches great importance to a low yield and never harvests more than he could in favour of quality. After the manual harvest, the grapes are fermented in the wine cellar and then matured for several months in 50-hectolitre French oak barrels according to traditional guidelines.
In addition to Piedmontese classics such as Barbera d'Alba, Nebbiolo Langhe and an aromatic Roero Arneis, the winery also produces an award-winning selection of dense and impressively complex Barolo wines for the passionate wine geeks among us. Davide is now also proving his talent as a winemaker in southern Italy. In Sicily, he has been producing wonderfully exciting volcanic wines under the same name in the province of Catania since 2016.
The name Giovanni Rosso is therefore a real promise of quality. And if you want to find the Piedmont region in your wine glass, this range is undoubtedly the right place for you. SUPERIORE.DE
