“Baccanera” Rosso Langhe DOC 2021
Baccanera is an aromatic Piedmontese cuvée made from Barbera, Merlot, Nebbiolo and Cabernet Sauvignon. Noble, dark garnet colour with a delicately brightening rim. Notes of tobacco, plum and a hint of cloves on the spicy nose. Complex and very delicate on the palate with fresh fruit, beautiful structure and well-integrated tannins. SUPERIORE.DE
"A juicy and racy red with notes of crushed berries, dried orange peel and hints of crushed stones, seashells and spice box on the nose. Medium- to full-bodied, firm and structured, yet shows a core of succulent fruit in the middle. I like the concentration and length. Solid and focused." James Suckling

The eleven-hectare vineyard of the brothers Gianni and Fratelli Martini, located on the slopes of the Bricco del Barolo, is one of the young and very ambitious winegrowers in the Langhe. After numerous modernisations and extensive new plantings, Lo Zoccolaio has now joined the top league of producers in Piedmont. The estate stands for wines with more fruit and greater fullness and a ruby red colour. According to the estate management, the production of Barolo does full justice to its origins and the time-honoured traditions associated with it, without compromising on the most modern methods and sophisticated technology. The winemaking process began with barriques, before moving on to larger wooden barrels for ageing. In addition to Nebbiolo, the vineyards are planted with Barbera, Dolcetto, Pinot Nero, Cabernet Sauvignon and Chardonnay.
In addition to Cascina Lo Zoccolaio, the Martini brothers also own Castello La Toledana in Gavi, Cascina La Doria in San Cristoforo and Villa Lanata in Cossano Belbo. The products of all four estates are marketed under the umbrella of "Fratelli Martini Secondo Luigi". Lo Zoccolaio only produces red wines from grapes grown in its own vineyards in Barolo, Monforte d'Alba and Novello. The double tree of life is the characteristic symbol on the labels of the house.
In addition to its two Barolo wines, Lo Zoccolaio also became known in the wine world for its "Suculé" and "Baccanera" wines. Barbera Superiore "Suculé" was honoured by Italian wine critic Luca Maroni in 2006 as the second best Barbera of the vintage. And the "La Toledana Gavi di Gavi Vigne Rade" has almost always been awarded the Tre Bicchieri by Gambero Rosso in recent years. The wines produced under the supervision of OenologistMassimo Marasso impress customers every year with their excellent price-pleasure ratio.
Cantina Lo Zoccolaio also includes the Michelin-starred restaurant "Locanda nel Borgo Antico" run by top chef Massimo Camia. Guests can choose from a wide range of regional and international wines and enjoy the view of the magnificent Barolo vineyards. SUPERIORE.DE
"Cascina Lo Zoccolaio is the jewel in the Martini brothers' estate portfolio." Gambero Rosso
