The grapes for Chiarlo's classic come from various vineyards in southern Asti, in particular from the Podere La Court and Montemareto vineyards in Castelnuovo Calcea, La Serra in Montaldo Scarampi and Costa delle Monache in Agliano. Le Orme is the prototype of a young, fresh red with a clean fruit flavour of plum and blackberry. On the palate, the wine is flavoured with high-toned red cherries and raspberries, framed by elegant and fine tannins with perfect acidity on the finish. The Colline di Rovereto have always been considered the historic Gavi Grand Cru of the municipality of Gavi; the microclimate prevailing there is unique due to the influence of the sea winds and the proximity of the Apennines. Straw yellow in colour with light green reflections. Exotic citrus fruits and elegant acidity on the palate paired with minerality and an unusually soft finish. Michele Chiarlos Principe is a red wine made from Nebbiolo grapes from two highly symbolic growing regions, Roero and Barbaresco. Subtle and intense at the same time, it has a character that tends towards a more drinkable profile, while retaining the elegance and structure typical of the grape variety. Bright ruby red colour. Enchanting nose of sour cherries, plums, but also gingerbread spice and some dried meat as well as cold smoke and mocha. On the palate, notes of violets and red fruit with a delicate spice vein. Tortoniano Barolo is a blend of Nebbiolo, 50% of which comes from the Cerequio vineyard, the other half from other plots, including some plantings in the Novello commune. It combines the complexity and nuances of the Nebbiolo grape with a fruit-driven and engaging personality. The aromatic bouquet shows hints of sweetness and richness with a potpourri of blackberries, summer cherries and spices. The loose, sandy soils of Cannubi always ensure a special concentration of flavour, and this is particularly evident in this classic vintage. A clean bouquet of small red berries, violets and dried rose petals. A fine mineral note, a pinch of salt and plenty of fruit and a clearly contoured tannin structure on the multi-layered palate. Barolo Cerequio is darker and richer than the Cannubi, but it too shows plenty of elegance in its dark cherries, plums, spices, cocoa and roasted coffee beans. Aromatics, fruit and structure are very well balanced in this delicious medium to full-bodied Barolo. As is so often the case with this bottling, the voice of Cerequio comes into its own. The Barolo Riserva Cerequio is a great wine, with particularly taut tannins and a concentrated richness that permeates its substantial textile fibre.
