This Nebbiolo from the Langhe comes from the entire region and from a combination of different soil types. It is fermented in concrete to preserve its freshness before maturing for five months in large oak barrels. On the nose, ripe, vanilla-scented hedgerow fruit with a fresh, crisp flavour of sweet cherries. On the palate, it displays an impressive intensity and plenty of playful acidity. The dark fruit flavours are supported by a supple texture and the spice nuances are fragrant and exotic. An excellent wine for early consumption and of great quality. SUPERIORE.DE

Pajé is a small vineyard near the village of Barbaresco, whose calcareous soils generally produce bright and floral wines and this wine fulfils this expectation in an impressive way, combined with an already remarkable density, which it only gradually reveals. On the nose, it shows intensity and purity, with penetrating aromas of red fruits. The attack is supple, bright but weighty and very focussed. The lively acidity lends tension and persistence to the finish. Already tantalising today, but with the unclouded prospect of further positive surprises! SUPERIORE.DE

Pora overwhelms with incredible complexity and a variety of aromas ranging from stone fruit, raspberries and liquorice to dried flowers, spices and white truffle. Despite all its lush fruit, the Pora has a good structural foundation. Juicy notes of dark cherries, plums, espresso, menthol and liquorice unfold in this forward, wonderfully inviting Riserva from the Produttori. The wine overflows with flavours, but its lean and polished personality continues on the palate. Multi-layered, exciting and still quite youthfully austere today, it needs a few years to relax and develop. SUPERIORE.DE

Rio Sordo Riserva is particularly dense, rich and balanced. On the nose we find roses, spices and raspberries. Very complex on the palate, with marvellous depth and juiciness. Rio Sordo offers a taut and sharp fruit on the nose, which is rounded off with some tannin and crispness on the finish. The floral notes that develop with good aeration or further ageing in the bottle through to the final make this Barbaresco Riserva irresistible even at a young age. SUPERIORE.DE

Muncagota is rich, deep and super-expressive every year, hitting all the right notes. Black cherry, plum, spice, leather and liquorice emerge, but all very hesitantly and with plenty of aeration, better: with further bottle ageing. The single-vineyard Barbaresco Riserva Ovello is, as always, one of the outstanding wines in this series. It shows the energy and tension so typical of this site, but with a slightly more mature profile than is the norm. Ovello dives straight into the volatile Nebbiolo aromas, with a focus on liquorice, tar, blue flowers and campfire ash. The palate is full-bodied, with flavours of crushed raspberries, juicy Marasca cherries, liquorice and nutmeg as well as firm, tight-knit tannins. The fresh acidity provides tension and balance. With further bottle ageing, this Barbaresco tends to be softer and more open, with soft tannins and a broad palate, thanks to the microclimate created by the cru's proximity to the Tanaro river.

The youngest of the Produttori cru wines, which saw the light of day in 1978. The palate reveals ripe, silky fruit and an important structure.

The Barbaresco Montefico is a jewel of a wine. Freshly cut flowers, minerals, crushed rocks, rose petals and lavender are all finely cut. As always, the Montefico is taut and angular in style. Its sense of transparency is simply beguiling. Sage, mint and sweet pipe tobacco are some of the nuances that linger. Of the Produttori's nine great Riservas, it is the one that best conceals its tannins, as the fruit is intensely fragrant, rich and seductive. For us, it is a synthesis of Montefico, Ovello and Rabajà. Today, Montestefano gives the impression of being relatively accessible, but it will almost certainly go through a few more stages of closure before it fully opens up. On the nose, we are surprised by the sheer endless complexity and depth of a Barolo. Its silky, polished tannins give an impression of sensual elegance. Rabaja is an elegant and great wine. Deep layers of fruit practically bury the tannins, which is very unusual for a young Rabajà. A multitude of dark, blue-tinged fruits, lavender, mint, violets and spices race across the palate in an extremely lively, compelling Barbaresco of the highest calibre. An expansive fruity core, alongside hints of roses, menthol, minerals and tar. The concentrated palate is of enviable finesse and is practically weightless in the mouth. It shows crushed black cherries, juicy raspberries, orange peel, cloves and liquorice alongside firm, velvety tannins. The bright acidity provides an impeccable balance.
