A fruity and graceful Barbaresco. The loamy soils give it a firm backbone and strong tannins.

Ovello shows the energy and tension so typical of this site, but with a slightly more mature profile than is the norm. Ovello dives straight into volatile Nebbiolo aromas, with a focus on liquorice, tar, blue flowers and campfire ash. The palate is full-bodied, with flavours of crushed raspberries, juicy Marasca cherries, liquorice and nutmeg as well as firm, tight-knit tannins. The fresh acidity provides tension and balance. "Ovello is by far the most important cru of the Produttori del Barbaresco. Eleven members cultivate 20 hectares on both sides of the ridge, facing south-east and south-west. The cold northerly winds and the calcareous, clayey soils give the wine a powerful, highly structured expression. The 2020 remains true to its terroir, but harnesses some of this power to create a harmonious, albeit robust, whole. Grilled herbs, savoury dark earth and dense, ripe dark cherries are held together by well-integrated, chalky tannins. This is a wine for the cellar." Decanter

"The Ovello vineyard has some northern exposures and is generally a cooler growing area. You can therefore expect intense fruit flavours and more pronounced tannins. The Barbaresco Riserva Ovello 2020 fits right into this picture. In the cold years, the tannins can be aggressive, but in the warm years like 2020, they are better balanced.
