“Is Solinas” Carignano del Sulcis Riserva DOC 2020
The barrique-aged Is Solinas, which was vinified for the first time as a Riserva from 100% Carignano in the 2014 vintage, is remarkable. Deep red in colour, an independent, delicately spicy bouquet, hints of red fruit and balsamic notes. The palate reveals an astonishing fullness of extract, dense, soft, harmonious, complex and long-lasting. SUPERIORE.DE
"Dark, ruby-red centre with a brightening rim. Warm and inviting on the nose with savoury fruit of plums and cranberries, plus black olive paste. The fruit also takes centre stage on the palate, with firm tannins, juicy and fresh through to the finish." Falstaff
"Lively and silky, this juicy red reveals a beam of raspberry coulis flavours. Finely balanced, with good weight and focus on the palate, yet light on its feet. It offers an underpinning of fresh loamy earth and details of dried lavender, milk chocolate, ground aniseed and pepper that add complexity and linger on the finish." Wine Spectator
"Slate and dried berries with undertones of walnut, bark and mushrooms. Full-bodied and multi-layered with plenty of fruit and intensity. Juicy tannins and chewy texture, but it's polished and very pretty. Better in a year or two, but already excellent now." James Suckling

This is silky yet sleek, with cooling acidity and saline minerals up front. Zesty acidity enlivens its tart wild berry fruit. “Turriga” Isola dei Nuraghi IGT 2020
In 1991, Turriga was one of the first bottled wines ever to be exported from the island. Turriga has a 100% Sardinian soul - the famous blend of four red autochthonous grape varieties was once created by the famous OenologistGiacomo Tachis and is continued today by his "heir" Mariano Murru, technical director and Oenologist at Argiolas. The DNA of this exceptional wine sounds as simple as it is perfect: its refined blend of grape varieties gives it its unique structure, roundness, fullness, fruit and a perfectly balanced portion of tannins.
Mariano goes into raptures and describes his top wine as follows: "It has a deep ruby red colour and an enveloping taste of almost spherical softness, with tannins of great finesse that support and accompany the drink. The lively fruit is supported by a balanced acidity and spiciness that refreshes the palate and prolongs an indescribable finish of rare elegance."
We have loved the elegant bouquet of plums, the opulent dark fruit, the finely balanced vanilla note and the subtle hint of tobacco for decades. Excellently structured and long-lasting on the finish. A masterpiece every year! SUPERIORE.DE
"A rich and layered red wine with lots of berry, cedar, chocolate and bark character. It is medium to full-bodied with a tight centre and a flavourful finish. It starts intense and then finishes very fine and concentrated. Better in three or four years, but already great now." James Suckling

In 1991, Turriga was one of the first bottled wines ever to be exported from the island. Turriga has a 100% Sardinian soul - the famous blend of the four indigenous grape varieties Cannonau, Carignano, Bovale Sardo and Malvasia Nera was once created by the famous OenologistGiacomo Tachis and is continued today by his "heir" Mariano Murru, technical director and Oenologist at Argiolas. The DNA of this exceptional wine sounds as simple as it is perfect: the Cannonau base gives structure, the Carignano the roundness and fullness, the Bovale the richness of the fruit and the Malvasia provides the well-balanced portion of tannins.
Mariano goes into raptures and describes the current anniversary vintage as follows: "It has a deep ruby red colour and an enveloping taste of almost spherical softness, with tannins of great finesse that support and accompany the drink. The lively fruit is supported by a balanced acidity and spiciness that refreshes the palate and prolongs an indescribable finish of rare elegance."
Bravo, Mariano! We have loved the elegant bouquet of plums, the opulent dark fruit, the finely balanced vanilla note and the subtle hint of tobacco for decades. Excellently structured and long-lasting on the finish. A masterpiece every year! SUPERIORE.DE
"The 2018 Turriga tempts the imagination with a distinctly minty freshness before deepening and darkening with depths of black currant, balsamic spice and cocoa. This is elegance personified, seamlessly silky yet with a bitter tinge of tart wild berries and sour citrus to balance, all guided by brisk acidity. Its minerality comes through in the long and structured finish, leaving the palate saturated with primary concentration. Residual acidity maintains unbelievable freshness. The 2018 is the most exciting young Turriga that I’ve tasted. This is not a beast but a well-muscled and refined dancer." Vinous
"Complex and subtle flavours of blackberries, brambles, cloves and perfume. Full-bodied with tannins that are round and rather soft, but still have a good structure. It is long and very flavourful, but at the same time restrained. Another three or four years should take it to another level. Try it after 2025." James Suckling

"A rich and layered red wine with lots of berry, cedar, chocolate and bark character. It is medium to full-bodied with a tight centre and a flavourful finish. It starts intense and then finishes very fine and concentrated. Better in three or four years, but already great now." James Suckling

When Antonio Argiolas carefully selected his vineyards in the 1930s according to soil, climate and altitude, he was already very far ahead of the Sardinian winegrowers of his time. For independent of the lucrative mass wine production, he directed the attention of his winery more and more towards quality in order to produce top wines in Sardinia that were full of character and affordable, which years later – and against all expectations – conquered the wine markets of the world.
The clever winery owner also got involved in a project with the successful Piemontese oenologist Giacomo Tachis at the end of the 1980s, which ultimately led his company to where Antonio himself would never have expected it to be: the Argiolas winery is now one of the pioneers of Italian quality winegrowing and has contributed significantly to the rapid growth of the Sardinian premium wine sector and its export success.
From elegant Nuragus sparkling wines to structured reds, fine sweet wines and single-varietal Vermentino, which nowhere else produce such fruit-intensive versions, Sardinian wine culture and impressive varietal diversity are on full display in Argiolas' collection. Territorial identity has become even more central to the production philosophy in recent years, particularly under the guidance of talented oenologist Mariano Murru.
The wide range of wines goes far beyond tempting everyday wines and also offers drops for special occasions, such as the legendary red wine Turriga, created in 1988 in collaboration with Giacomo Tachis. The selected grape varieties Cannonau and Carignano give this blend its clear and powerful structure, while the Bovale and Malvasia Nera grapes provide floral-balsamic aromas and an unmistakable spiciness, which is why Turriga is considered the best red wine in Sardinia by many wine critics.
Argiolas' vineyards are all located in the south of the island, between Serdiana and the Golfo di Palmas, where the Mediterranean climate with mild winter months and warm, dry summers favours the ripening of the grapes. And depending on the growing zone, the Sardinian grapes are cultivated in an environmentally friendly way on sand, clay, sandstone or marl soils.
Argiolas still invests in new vineyard sites and experiments with various autochthonous grape varieties of the Mediterranean island in order to remain true to the origin-based wine style. The family winery is located 20 kilometres north of the capital Cagliari and is now run by the sons Franco and Giuseppe Argiolas. They are also actively helped by their children Valentina, Francesca and Antonio, who are just as aware of the great potential of Sardinian wines as their brilliant grandfather Antonio once was. "Numerous labels are produced, all of them convincing, which besides ready-to-drink, young wines also contain long-lasting selections, as there are only few others on the island." Gambero Rosso
