“Saia” Nero d’Avola Sicilia DOC 2021 (BIO)
The pure Nero d'Avola is bursting with dark aromas of berries, black cherry, liquorice and tobacco. Lush and distinctive on the palate with wonderful spicy notes of mint, aniseed and espresso. Juicy tannins, good length, fine pressure. A really great wine of impressive intensity at a still very reasonable price, incidentally certified organic since the 2020 vintage! SUPERIORE.DE
"Dark ruby red with violet edges. Fine spicy notes on the nose, ripe plum and forest floor. Balanced on the palate with a fine tannin structure, fresh and fruity core, medium length." Falstaff
"The Saia 2021 exudes a captivating blend of crushed violets, lavender, blackberries and wet stones. A powerful core of ripe red and blue fruits forms the framework, while a juicy acidity provides freshness. A pleasantly bitter hint of tangerine develops towards the end. The 2021 is spotty and long, finishing with a layer of fine tannins and a saturation of primary concentration that creates a slight chewy sensation towards the end. This is a fantastic and energetic interpretation of Saia, a Nero d'Avola grape variety that I suspect will age very well." Vinous
"Lots of blackberries, mushrooms, bark and a hint of pumice. A hint of smoke. Mussel shells. Blue fruits. Medium-bodied with fine and silky tannins that add tension and focus. Black fruits on the finish with a hint of orange peel. Crisp and fruity with structure." James Suckling

“Maharis” Syrah Sicilia DOC 2021
Deep dark, sparkling ruby red colour. An opulent dark red fruit basket on the nose, intense and full. From the very first sip, a depth that is unrivalled in this price range. The heights to which this wine is capable of carrying the connoisseur are nothing short of spectacular. At the same time, it always convinces with an indescribable balance. Maharis is never fat or jammy, but its potpourri of dark fruits, spices, matured leather and a subtle smoky note is balanced at all times with an almost surprising freshness and liveliness. The final is long, velvety and richly textured. Magnificent! SUPERIORE.DE
"Dark, bright ruby red colour. Nose with elegant wood, fine spice, black pepper and grated blackcurrants, sour cherries, dried flowers on the finish. On the palate, grippy and present, with a cool fruit centre and tight tannins, final on fine salty notes." Falstaff
"This balanced Syrah from Alberello vines grown on chalky soils in Noto has an incredible perfume of Parma violets, cedar wood, dark chocolate, balsam, dried cherries and wild strawberries. In the mouth, it is concentrated and vertical, with plenty of freshness, floral scents and airy delicacy combined with dark, juicy fruit. Juicy and stony with hints of violets and lavender, then liquorice, black pepper and coffee notes on the long finish, this is such a beautiful wine." Decanter
"The aromas of dark fruit, dried meat, bacon and orange peel are impressive. It’s medium-bodied with juicy fruit, round tannins and notes of dried meat and cedar. Lightly bitter at the end in a good way. An attractive blend of syrah and nero d’avola that gives an international take on the Sicilian area of Noto." James Suckling

“Animalucente” Bianco Etna DOC 2022 (BIO)
Animalucente consists mainly of Carricante from 70-100 year old vines, some of which are still ungrafted. Shiny, ethereal and extravagant in the glass, the bright colour is reminiscent of a lava flow in a wild and romantic setting. Extremely flavoursome on the palate, vertical, with a tangy acidity and creaminess that makes you want to drink the next glass. Animalucente is a strong, forward and very authentic Etna wine and the perfect fusion of heaven and earth. SUPERIORE.DE
"It has an invitingly transparent style with plenty of juiciness and core. Slightly green accents resonate, the acidity appears subtly unripe in a well-built structure." Weinwisser
"Bright straw yellow colour. Open-hearted on the nose, of salt lemon, dried herbs, sea salt, then precise, juicy, clean on the palate." Falstaff
"The 2022 Etna Bianco Animalucente Santo Spirito blends savouriness and sweetness with a burst of crushed stone and lemon peel accompanied by a hint of sage. It has a soft texture with juicy acidity and savoury minerals holding the balance as the crunchy fruit trees slowly saturate towards the finish. The 2022 tapers off with a flinty feel and admirable length, leaving a hint of sour citrus for lovely punctuation." Vinous
"Delicately floral and honeyed lemon, herbal and fragrant on the nose. Dense, round and full of flavour - burnt caramel, orange peel and blossom, pear drops and chamomile with plenty of spiced, roasted edges providing the frame and sense of structure. Nice body and fruitiness, round and forward, offering a full palate with nuances of iron, black pepper, cloves, toast and freshly picked apples. A beautiful wine." Decanter
"You can smell the sea here and there are many aromas and flavours of dried lemon, raw ginger and apple. Turmeric. Full-bodied with lots of fruit and yet energetic and concentrated. So complex. Very well made." James Suckling

“Animardente” Rosso Etna DOC 2019
Animardente is a pure Nerello Mascalese produced from vines planted in bushes at an altitude of 700 metres on partly sandy and ashy, partly gravelly soils that are exposed to extreme temperature fluctuations between day and night. The name of the wine is derived from the bowels of the volcano, from its incessant activity, the heat and the colour of the magma. The vines grow in a kind of amphitheatre created by volcanic eruptions, which over the centuries have produced a valuable substrate for viticulture: On dark volcanic soils formed from lava flows, mainly free-living, rootless vines develop here, which are exposed to the most extreme climatic influences. Animardente was born a few years ago in this almost moon-like landscape. A name that tells of the soul of the silent volcano, unexpected and incandescent, breathing life into perpetual motion. An irrepressible and seductive force of nature, the expression of a unique terroir.
Animardente 2019 has a dark consistency and a beautifully saturated garnet red colour. The bouquet has a wildly romantic impression of spices, dried berries, cassis, lavender flowers and polished river rock. More concentrated on the palate than many of its Etna counterparts, yet with captivating elegance and harmony. Seductive, powerful, structured and authentic. SUPERIORE.DE
"Bright ruby red with a sparkling centre. The nose is characterised by strong reduction, cold smoke, delicate red berry fruit, red currants, restrained overall. Clear on the palate with a juicy core, shows equally juicy tannins, also full-bodied pressure." Falstaff
"Raspberries, cola cubes and vanilla notes on the nose. Light, fresh and full-bodied, but with creamy tannins. Mouth-filling and bright with a certain lightness. Well balanced and juicy. Excellent food companion with not too high acidity, everything in balance. Easy to drink and enjoy." Decanter
"The Contrada Santo Spirito di Passopisciaro 2019 Etna Rosso Animardente offers dark fruits and a medium-bodied concentration. This particular density is a characteristic of this classic vintage. The wine offers fine tannins and Etna-specific flavours of wild berries, cassis, wild roses and ashy minerality. This wine is accessible, open and goes well with grilled meat. The fruit comes from 70-year-old Alberello vines that grow at 700 metres above sea level with a north-easterly exposure." Wine Advocate
"A medium-bodied, spicy and mineral red wine with lots of fresh and dried cherries, oyster shells, mushrooms and a little iodine. Also tea leaves. Firm tannins. Fresh, mineral finish." James Suckling

"The 2021 Etna Rosso Animardenta Santo Spirito is wickedly fresh, opening with a whiff of savory herbs and crushed rocks that gives way to wild strawberries and rose petals. This possesses a lovely inner sweetness that’s further enhanced by ripe red berries as autumnal spices swirl atop a core of grippy tannin. The 2021 finishes long, gently tannic and beautifully balanced. A note of licorice remains on the close." Vinous

“Animanaturale” Rosso Etna DOC 2022 (BIO)
Animanaturale from vines over 60 years old is the lightest and freshest wine from the new Animaetna line of the small garage winery Contrada Santa Spirito, which belongs to Feudo Maccari. Matured almost entirely in amphorae, the Nerello Mascalese grape presents itself here in all its fruitiness and freshness, completely unadulterated and pure. The grapes are foot-pressed, spontaneous fermentation is carried out using the grapes' own yeasts, racking and bottling take place according to the phases of the moon. On the palate, the flavours of red fruits and berries are tangy and vibrant with a precise and very mineral finish. SUPERIORE.DE

“Firraru Family & Friends” Bianco Terre Siciliane IGT 2021 (BIO)
Firraru is Feudo Maccari's latest big hit: a small-production Grillo from black soils characterised by limestone, clay skeleton and an iron-rich matrix. Crystal clear yellow with golden reflections. Complex aroma of citrus fruits, fine flavours of vanilla and roasted cinnamon. Fresh and perfectly structured on the palate, with a fine tannin structure and an enveloping, very long flavour. SUPERIORE.DE
"The Firraru from Feudo Maccari is a single-varietal Grillo. Cool and racy, it is beautifully flavoured and produces plenty of juice and body with a differentiated depth. Firmly structured and long, this is probably one of the best Grillo." Weinwisser
"Bright light golden yellow colour. Intense aroma of yellow apple, grapefruit, acacia and orange blossom as well as vanilla and caramel on the nose. Structured and full-bodied on the palate, pleasantly spicy and beautifully melting, very powerful and long final on hazelnuts." Falstaff
"The smoky, tropical flavours are joined by a hint of herbs, and in the mouth the excellent acidity drives the fruit through a structured, full-bodied expression of the variety. Lemon, apricot and citrus peel are underscored by plenty of black pepper and a certain creaminess, leading to a long and savoury, spicy finish. Give it a few more months to allow the wood to integrate further." Decanter
"The 2021 Grillo Firraru is intense. A whiff of crushed rocks and sage gives way to freshly sliced nectarines and enriching hints of almond custard. Luxurious and nearly opulent on the palate, its ripe orchard fruits and silken textures are all kept in balance by a core of stimulating acidity. The 2021 cleans up beautifully through the finish with a crisp mineral tinge while suggestions of ground ginger create a spicy sensation. While I notice the oak treatment here, it is very well integrated." Vinous
"Lots of crushed oysters, dried flowers, flint and matches. Hints of vanilla. Full-bodied, but very energetic. Crunchy. Notes of liquorice and aniseed." James Suckling

“Sultana” Nero d’Avola Sicilia DOC 2021 (BIO)
The Nero d'Avola grapes for the very rare Sultana come from a steeply sloping, bush-shaped vineyard facing north-west. The soil here is white with a limestone matrix, rich in minerals and drainage capacity. The pronounced slope and very poor soil reinforce the pedoclimatic characteristics in which the Nero d'Avola plants find a natural habitat. It is an extreme terroir, a combination of environmental and human factors, that distinguishes the Sultana vineyard from other vineyards. The light reflected by the white soils enhances the characteristics and ultimately the quality of the grapes from the vineyard. SUPERIORE.DE
"Dark, bright ruby red with a slightly brightening rim. Intense aromas of cherries, raspberries and blackcurrants on the nose, accompanied by herbal flavours, cocoa and dark chocolate. Great juiciness and flow on the palate, good balance between freshness and tannins, ending with cherry fruit in the finish." Falstaff
"Deep purple in colour and significantly darker than the Vigna Guarnaschelli of the same vintage. Concentrated nose of sour cherry and raspberry with chalky notes. Juicy, lively, almost tart cherry and raspberry fruit, with a dose of grippy tannins on the finish, suggesting that this wine needs more age. Much less full-bodied than its 15% would suggest. It is currently more approachable than the Vigna Guarnaschelli." Jancis Robinson
"The Vigna Sultana 2021 is smoky in the glass, with a burst of grilled herbs, ash stones and spices giving way to black raspberry and sour citrus fruit. It's soft, supple and soothingly round with tart wild berries and savoury minerals for balance. A core of lively acidity keeps things tidy. The 2021 has a long finish and retains a lovely freshness. It leaves grippy tannins and a savoury feel under a hint of sweet violets and lavender on the finish." Vinous
"Spectacular aromas of hibiscus, lemon blossom, raspberry and red liquorice. Lots of crushed red berries. Medium body with fine, flattering tannins. Bright acidity on the finish. A triumph." James Suckling

“Guarnaschelli” Nero d’Avola Sicilia DOC 2021 (BIO)
The single vineyard Guarnaschelli is a 60-year-old vineyard with a slight westerly exposure. A loamy matrix of brown skeletal soils can be found here. This generous soil, characterised by limestone, gives the wines finesse and minerality. Here, the plants produce grapes of consistently high quality every year - the result of deep roots and restrained, intelligent vineyard work. The strong exposure to the sun is tempered by constant winds blowing from all directions. This sets in motion a play of temperature fluctuations from which the old vines benefit to produce complex and aromatic grapes.
"Bright ruby red colour with a slightly brightening rim. Blueberries, blackberries and blackcurrants on the nose, harmoniously accompanied by maquis and some leather. Great fruit core on the palate, harmonious freshness and gripping tannins, final with dark fruit on the final." Falstaff
"Deep, impenetrable purple colour. Impressive depth of lifted cherry and damson fruit, with a complex note of spicy oak and hints of eucalyptus and white pepper. The palate is juicy, lush, sour cherry and damson, with a hint of grainy tannins and surprisingly high acidity on the finish. The 15% alcohol is well integrated. A few more years in the bottle wouldn't go amiss, as this wine has both the richness and the tannic structure." Jancis Robinson
"Earthy and intense, the 2021 Vigna Guarnaschelli develops slowly in the glass with a dark mix of crushed blackberries, exotic spices, lavender and rosemary. The texture is deeply creamy yet tangy, with cooling acidity and polished red and black fruits that slowly saturate towards the finish. The 2021 leaves behind a layer of fine-grained tannins and salty minerals, finishing with dramatic length, power and structure. This tangy Nero d'Avola is ready for the cellar. Wow." Vinous
"Aromas of terracotta, dried earth, stone and black berries. Medium to full body. Strong but fine tannins. Lasts for minutes. The fruit remains flowing but always in check. A wine for the cellar. A new benchmark for Nero d'Avola. The magic of a single vineyard." James Suckling

This 6-bottle gift box contains 3 bottles of each of the two single-vineyard wines.
3 bottles of 0.75l | "Guarnaschelli" Nero d'Avola Sicilia DOC 2021 (BIO)
The single vineyard Guarnaschelli is a 60-year-old vineyard with a slight westerly exposure. A loamy matrix of brown skeletal soils can be found here. This generous soil, characterised by limestone, gives the wines finesse and minerality. Here, the plants produce grapes of consistently high quality every year - the result of deep roots and restrained, intelligent vineyard work. The strong exposure to the sun is tempered by constant winds blowing from all directions. This sets in motion a play of temperature fluctuations from which the old vines benefit to produce complex and aromatic grapes.

"Spectacular aromas of hibiscus, lemon blossom, raspberry and red liquorice. Lots of crushed red berries. Medium body with fine, flattering tannins. Bright acidity on the finish. A triumph." James Suckling

The magnificent Feudo Maccari winery, managed by Antonio Moretti, is situated between Noto and Pachino in the province of Syracuse, in a lush Baroque landscape and thus in one of the best wine-growing areas in Sicily. The winegrower, who is firmly anchored in his Tuscan homeland as the owner of the Tenuta Sette Ponti and the Poggio al Lupo estate, began a new wine adventure immediately after the turn of the millennium out of love for the beautiful and wild nature of the Mediterranean island. Together with his daughter Monica, he brought about half of the total area of the old fief for the cultivation of vines to fruition. Moretti has thus gradually restored the former glory of the long neglected cultivation zone. In the family business, the grapes - including newly planted vines - are grown using the Alberello method. Feudo Maccari includes several residences, a guest house, a wine tasting room and a restored and functionally equipped wine cellar surrounded by vineyards.
The buscher education after the Alberello procedure in the midst of lemon, carob and almond trees, dwarf palms and olive groves has a long tradition in the eastern part of Sicily. The area between Noto and Pachino is also particularly suitable for the cultivation of Nero d'Avola. The Sicilian red parade variety and speciality of Feudo Maccari can play out its characteristics particularly well here thanks to the special microclimate and the extremely fertile volcanic soil. Cultivated in the winery next to Nero d'Avola the local white wine variety Grillo as well as Cabernet Sauvignon, Syrah and Moscato. It is also thanks to the Moretti family that some vines planted about 60 years ago have been revived in all the old vineyards.
The Feudo Maccari winery is located as the crow flies a few kilometres from the Ionian Sea and just a stone's throw from the Vendicari Nature Reserve. In addition to the special climatic conditions, the meticulous work in the vineyard ensures healthy and optimally ripening grapes. The different characteristics of the terrain - black and white, clayey and calcareous - as well as the differences in altitude and exposure of the sites, make Feudo Maccari an extremely complex, delicious and terroir-true wine of impressive quality, characterised by great strength of character and elegance. Since the first bottlings, the labels of the Sicilian wine house have been convincing with a precise and clearly defined style, accompanied by only a few human interventions. With the support of the oenology team of Carlo Ferrini and Gioia Cresti, all the red wines are aged in French oak barrels. SUPERIORE.DE
"Moretti was attracted to Sicilian viticulture from an early age and set out to produce great Sicilian red wines that matched his Supertoscans." Robert Parker's Wine Advocate
"The wines are all of excellent quality and more concerned with elegance and finesse than with concentration."Gambero Rosso
