Nero d’Avola Sicilia DOC 2021
Carmelo Morgante's spicy and dark Nero d'Avola opens with a burst of blood orange, crushed blackberries, balsamic herbs and violet blossom. It is silky smooth yet cool in flavour. Crisp wild berries and tangy citrus fruits form the contrast. A youthful tension unfolds on the palate, while tart cherries and cranberries mingle with sweet tannins. It reveals much more depth, concentration and balance than you would expect for this price.
"Medium ruby colour with violet accents. Fresh acidity structure. Lots of Amarena cherry. Juicy and uncomplicated. Subtle notes of blood orange and violet blossom. Everything appears cool and modern. Silky tannins. Cranberries lend a youthful character. Forest plants and fir, tangerine and fresh redcurrant. Fresh acidity. Inviting." Vinum
"The 2021 Nero d'Avola is savoury in the glass with a forest-inspired blend of mentholated herbs, shaved pine, tangerine and crushed wild berries. The palate is pleasantly sweet, with cocoa flavoured red berry fruit and a hint of sage and lavender. Pickling and powerful, the 2021 tapers off with dramatic length, leaving taut tannins and notes of liquorice that linger." Vinous

“Bianco di Morgante” da uve nere 2023
Bianco di Morgante is a pure Nero d'Avola. However, the typical Sicilian red grape was vinified without contact with the skins, resulting in this very successful and exceptionally finesse-rich white wine. Silky and brilliant, this experimental wine impresses with its balance, freshness and lightness. SUPERIORE.DE
"Chopped apples, almonds and cream on the nose. It’s savory and medium- to full-bodied with a nutty, gently saline finish. Nicely textured and round." James Suckling

“Don Antonio” Nero d’Avola Riserva Sicilia DOC 2020
Don Antonio Riserva is the best selection from the Morgante vineyards, where only Nero d'Avola grows. Concentrated and hauntingaromas, very typical of the variety, ripe fruit accompanied by mineral and balsamic notes. Lively and elegant on the palate. The flagship of the winery and a prime example of the "Taste of Sicily". SUPERIORE.DE
"Dark ruby red with purple reflections. Dense and dark on the nose, of sweet black cherry, dark chocolate, liquorice, toast and bacon. With sweet, savoury fruit on the palate, powerful and with a lot of pressure, on tightly woven tannins, with a long finish." Falstaff
"Intense ripe dark fruits mixed with leather flavours, powerful and bright with a sweet, oaky finish." Decanter
"The 2020 Nero d'Avola Riserva Don Antonio rises from the glass with a mentholated blend of grilled herbs, dried black cherries and balsamic spice. This is an elegant and refined wine with a polished wave of ripe red and blue fruit accented by hints of spiced orange. Fine-grained tannins rise towards the finish, leaving it long and structured, yet remarkably fresh. Notes of cherry and dark chocolate linger on the final. The 2020 is a fantastic edition of the Don Antonio with a perfectly integrated hint of new oak. It should only need a short stay in the cellar before it reaches a long and wide drinking window." The Morgante family had already been involved in viticulture for four generations when they decided to vinify their own grapes in the deep south of Sicily in the 1990s. Situated in the sun-kissed hills of the province of Agrigento near the municipality of Grotte, just over 20 kilometres from the famous Valley of the Temples, the winery has undergone a major upheaval after moving away from selling bulk wines in barrels for many years. The owners have decided to focus exclusively on the ancient local grape variety Nero d'Avola. The striving for growth and top quality that went hand in hand with this new direction meant that the classic family business under the management of Antonio Morgante quickly became one of the best and best-known red wine producers on the island
Cooperation at Morgante is based on respect, team spirit and trust. Values and characteristics such as passion, enthusiasm, expertise and social responsibility define the company strategy following the complete reorganisation. Nature conservation and the preservation of biodiversity are also very important. The entire production process is characterised by the careful use of scarce ecological resources. In 1997, the winegrowing family engaged the star oenologist Riccardo Cotarella as a technical consultant for the cellar in order to give even more impetus to their own high standards and the potential of the terroir. Around the same time, patriarch Antonio Morgante (†2020) passed the baton to his two sons Carmelo and Giovanni. They have been prudently and successfully running the winery for decades, honouring their father's valuable legacy.
The Morgante winery, which has grown to a total area of around 200 hectares to date, has widely scattered and sometimes very old vines that grow on slopes between 350 and 550 metres high. The Mediterranean climate with low precipitation, hot days and cool nights, as well as the calcareous and clayey soils offer the Nero d'Avola best growing conditions.
The Morgante Winery regularly cultivates and interprets its precious grape treasure, which has not been increased by acquisitions, with very good results. For this reason, the Weinhaus has been awarded high ratings by international wine critics for many years. Above all, the great elegant red wines of the Sicilian winery, pressed from the pure Sicilian noble vine and sensitively matured in new barriques, are highly appreciated by experts. The latest hussar piece of the winery is the Bianco di Morgante – a white pressed Nero d'Avola. SUPERIORE.DE
