Wines from South Tyrol and Trentino

The vineyards of the five grape varieties are located between 350 and 800 metres above sea level and face south-west. The vines grow on dolomite, porphyry, sand and marl soils. As a young wine, Manna has golden yellow colour nuances, which turn into strong golden tones after a few years of maturation. Manna is very special: complex, multi-layered with a bouquet of elderberry, pistachio, apricot, nutmeg and delicate rose petals. Mason di Mason is described by the winery as "a Grand Cru within a Grand Cru". The Teroldego from Foradori are all a great experience. Elisabetta presses highly interesting wines from the autochthonous grape variety from the foot of the Dolomites. And they do so purely organically and partly in amphorae.

Morei (dark in Trentino dialect) is an original red wine, true to the terroir, and at the same time of irresistible elegance and finesse. Warm, dense and mineral like the soil on which it grows. Morei is protected from the cold north winds by the nearby steep rock faces. The rock stores heat during the day, which radiates to the vineyard at night. The soil here is very stony, therefore relatively warm, dense, dark, mineral, like the eponymous wine Morei Teroldego. The average age of the vines (30 years) also contributes to its depth of character. SUPERIORE.DE

Slightly darker fruited and with less of the floral note of the Sgarzon 2020, just a touch of peony, more mineral (an impression of rock dust), sober, perhaps a little bigger in the mouth than the Sgarzon – the alcohol is a tiny bit higher but still pretty modest. Firmer, more rounded tannins but still extremely fine, and they are deeper and denser. Like the Sgarzon, there is outstanding purity and refinement. Beautifully fresh even if the freshness is less immediate than in the Sgarzon, it carries through on the long, long finish. Sgarzon is a single vineyard, hardly more than a kilometre from Morei as the crow flies, but here the Noce has deposited more sand in the upper soil layers, the plot is more open and thus less protected from cold winds. The grapes ripen about a week later. Teroldego Sgarzon is fabulous, filigree and yet full of richness and energy from the attack to the final. Aromatic dark–red fruit, with minor highlights of dried wild flowers, possibly lavender as it opens in the glass, and a hint of crushed stones, though this last characteristic is more evident on the Morei. Instantly captivating on the palate with a combination of energising freshness and very fine tannins, dry, pulled tight like a bowstring. So clean in the mouth and refined.
